Enza City players remember their route of the chance a year ago they think they can upset today good afternoon everyone down quickie with former Cincinnati all-pro tight end Bob Trumpy the Giants are an interesting team they've been up and they've been down they have no delusions about themselves no they're not a great team but they also know if they scratch and fight they can win the division how does a young team no-trump handle pressure in a game like this and this is a pressure game you're right Don it is tough but I can't say the system coaches at West Point John mackovic in his second year at Kansas City a motivational leader he's not down with his team is down in the standings they think they can upset today Dyanne fans revved up over the success of this giant team in our ally shake kicks it off for the Giants and here comes JT Smith for the ball for Kansas City open field trying to turn the corner on mark canes and JT Smith is out at the 40-yard line so the Chiefs open with a big play drum I would say the New York Giants worst fear already realized and that is at the outset of the football game these Kansas City Chiefs aren't dangerous this is a contract game the rest of the season contracts for the players the New York Giants on special teams that's normally the indication of the emotion of the football team last year bill Kenney at quarterback ripped the Giants there's Kenny who went to the Pro Bowl this year he went to the hospital with a fractured thumb missed the first five game but he's tough first in ten Casey kitchen right away quick screen Carlos Carson can't get to the ball till they misfire on first down any at quarterback Herrmann heard a rookie runner in the backfield Carson's the best deep threat Henry Marsh is a big wide receiver Willie Scott blocks it tight in offensive line for Casey has been disappointing lately they've given up a lot of sex second down and ten coming up for the Kansas City Chiefs ball positioned at the Chiefs 40-yard line after a 40 yard return of the opening kickoff we got a Kansas City chief down on the excuse me that's one of the striped shirts down on the sideline [Applause] San Lawrence Taylor linebacker position it could be a-comin KC's had trouble with Atlas he's plan coverages Tanner [Applause] Willie Scott tight end was Jenny missed him again and there's a marker down Giants on defense a formidable group the linebackers kieth let's wait for the call from tom dooley holding call against the Chiefs bill Kenny last year can later use of hands 72 off its bill to use decline to start down [Applause] Dave Luke's had a problem the Giants defensive front three Jim Burt is the best he's an inspirational leader out of Miami of Florida the linebackers the strength of the team Gary reasons in wider rookie Lawrence Taylor you know about him there's none better there's none better the giant coaches say then Mark James the left corner number 36 of Pro Bowler [Applause] from the shotgun on 1310 [Applause] Kaycee marrow and the Giants really put the pressure on ball is down Kitty's been out for six weeks with that bad thumb he looks like he's hurt again it was the fractured thumb on his throwing arm and he's holding his right arm now like you may have suffered some more damage from the shotgun pressure from the outside Luke just can't handle it 71 there it looks like he got hit on the elbow done Casey Merrill with the pressure but you don't like to see your quarterback coming off the field holding his throwing arm like that now he went out in the last preseason game with a thumb fracture here's Todd Blackledge part of that select quarterback class of 83 he's out of Penn State Jim Arnold's the best putter in the NFL both in average distance and average net yardage he's having a great year in fill macaques a dangerous little return man for the Giants out of Annapolis jefes unable to get anywhere their first three downs from scrimmage [Applause] very much that was it [Applause] after that 40-yard kickoff return done kansas city tries three passes three incompletions and the Giant Schnauzer delay of game offense port down that 40-yard return really Nets them nothing it looks like they're paying attention to his wrist seems to be in a lot of pain the starting quarterback for the Chiefs bill Kenny [Music] so Jim Idol set the punt now he'll hit the ball about his 26 yard line Giants could get good field position long time idle unloads my cocky [Applause] special teams are here to play football my cocky shaken up but he's up and about phil simms comes out he'll set three single-season giant passing records today as he goes out of the game early rookies in white the white outs Lionel Manuel and Bob Johnson's small and fast crafty receivers offensive line a lot of people have been moved around this year got pretty the right guard from Michigan has been the best of late now score first in 10 Giants passed around carpenter jefes close in lay the ball well very short gain on the play Phil McConkey got up and now he's back down being at 10:00 to 2:00 shaking up on that punt return look at the Kansas City Chiefs on defense art stills the great one at left in bill Maas is going to be at nose tackle although he's hurt the best play on the front line though Mike Bell is out right now with a knee injury linebackers the best of the ladders Gary spane number 59 he's playing on a bad ankle secondaries had some problems the safeties are the best part of it he crashes ahead very close to a giant first down Duran sherry the free safety tackling Don into the team that throws the ball throws the ball and throws the ball carpenter is a good changeup now he's not quick he's not fast but he's a good heady runner he can find that little seam in the defense and get up through there and he's a very difficult guy to bring down initial report on bill Kenny Trumpy he's injured his right elbow you can see him trying to flex it there he may have hit the crazy bone which was just numb his little finger he may be all right it would certainly be a big plus for the Kansas City Chiefs if Kenny could play this New York giant defensive blitzing defense Kenny handles the Blitz better than Blackledge does Kenny up warming up Blackledge started out late very well as the Chiefs won their first two games then he was roughed up badly by Denver and a slumped after that and then Kenny came back with Blackledge has great ability show nerd to Collinsworth 57 yards and the bengals are on the board your old friends from Cincinnati Trump who need a win badly leading Atlanta Tina needs to win worse strangely Cincinnati Bengals are still in the race in the AFC Central fight somebody's going to win that by default third down at inches for the Giants they got they go to the right Morris short and quick and powerful from Syracuse takes it ahead and the Giants have a first down to the 35 yard line Joe Morris a good player the all-time leading rusher at Syracuse giant running game now has not been very productive as you see it's only averaging three yards of rush this season Don is a very smart thing for the New York Giants to do though those first hits of the ball game are generally very very important it gets rid of the pressure of the situation so far the Giants running the ball I think the control the line of scrimmage Sims and first down the ball was tipped at the line as the Chiefs generate a big rush big arc still at 672 65 was humming in there from the left side these guys get good pressure up front Maas arch still look at montz with a great arm strength and he can push anybody around that's art still 67 at six seven and up and phil simms face to knock it away Steelers on the board six and six leader of the AFC Central upon San Diego three nothing at the free river Stadium [Music] since to the drawn second and ten emoji stuffin winstram 71 was on the play so was the middle guard bill Maas the rookie from Pittsburgh give the most credit to Bill Maas he pushed the center Belcher right back into the face of Joe Morse and he really had no place to run watch the strength this young man has he'll just Park that guard right back in the look at there you see Morris has got no place to go it pushes the offensive guard right back into the running back brings up a third and nine Trump we have Mike Bell in the game now playing with an injured knee it right in he is a great football player particularly rushing the passer he almost jumped offside we'll see if there's a marker there is free play for the Giants but it's errant the throw he was going to Byron Williams running in over the middle pattern Mike Bell a very emotional player very spirited player and his first down he jumped offsides here as Giants get five free yards we were told by the Kansas City Chiefs at build did not practice all week long and was only going to play in the nickel situation so without that week's where the practice you do get a little overanxious out there John mackovic he brought dog biscuits to practice on Thursday I know if the implied message was he said it was to teach about the pavlof motive [Music] throwing a catch and a good stick by Duran sherry a free agent from nearby Rutgers who went to the Pro Bowl last year he made the hit and Galbreath short of the first down Jack's have to punt the ball Anza City comes with a blitz they get good pressure you can see it's picked up but nevertheless on the flat excellent tackle as you say just short of the first down marker so Dave Jennings the elder statesman of this giant team when is an 11th year ready to punt the ball JD Smith is back for the Chiefs he returned the opening kickoff 40 yards well hit ball by Jennings fair kept Sinbad field position for Casey as the Chiefs offense comes out nothing on the board yet vividly here in New York a bitter disappointment when Alan Ameche busted in what stadium has changed a little bit [Applause] million renovating it [Applause] please go to the running the first Billy Jackson runs the ball that takes it across the 20 and out close to the 25-yard line now well we have a moment let's go to NFL 84 in New York all right on the Redskins have gotten out quickly now at RFK Stadium Joe Theismann hooks up with art monk 17th touchdown pass the year for Theismann the play covers 11 yards 7 nothing Washington over Buffalo thank you Bill big game for the Giants the skins in the bills end up on second down back to the run Giants are a little tougher against it as Hermon heard a rookie who's been a surprise from southern Colorado gets ahead for semi yard the Cardinals Dilla contender at 6 and 6 lead the Eagles 7 nothing Lomax with a touchdown pass to stump Mitchell and Tampa Bay's taking a three nothing lead over the LA Rams all the games count the same if they seem to count more as we hit down the stretch second down and seven coming up no score Giants do a good job stringing the run out and then shutting it down Don I notice something about the Kansas City Chiefs that they haven't really relied on a great deal throughout this season and that's the two backset with hurt and Jackson in there this is a little bit of a change for the Kansas City Chiefs today the way their offense has not been producing front they've got to make some change well we'll find out how healthy Bill Kenny is right now third down and about five I would certainly think he's got a throw here goes from the shotgun wideout stack to the left you see Anthony Hancock in motion Luke pass Carlos Carson no he had the ball and lost it yet astride on Perry Williams Carson of Provo receiver in the past has been dropping some balls the last few weeks he could have had that one done I wonder why on a day when it's sixty degrees and sunny in an absolutely dry field Carlos Carson would choose to wear gloves you can see this is a man on man coverage his ball as well thrown and my estimation should have been caught heaps have to punt again the 52 yard of the first time for Jim Idol here's his second this time Lionel Manuel is back McConkey was shaken up and Manuel does a good job breaking in head to the 35 yard line so the Giants after a 46-yard punt betcha model in an eight-yard returns and Phil sit I'm Becker coach Bill Belichick talking to his people little chalk session I think the Giants are feeling the pressure from Crick I think we'll see a lot of that today a lot of meetings on the sidelines first in ten Sims has a long ball but this time it's tipped again art still is a load on the left side they're doubling up Adams and no avail he's right in phil simms face this kid is a big quarterback - he's close to six for Kansas City is not getting to him but nevertheless they're collapsing the pocket around him and Simms with those hands in his face it's another attempt he'd like to have a couple of completions right now he'll go second and ten phil simms with no score in the first quarter carpenter turns up field does a good job again as he comes across the 40-yard line he get five or six all instruments M&T one knocked him down Kansas City doing a little meat in there too great pluck on that last play by pill er the guard of the New York Giants he stops painting 59 on the Blitz and that freed the carpenter Paul McDonald just passed for Cleveland Browns touchdown they go out in front of the Houston Oilers 7 nothing it's hurry down this is a big play here done gets the momentum for the New York Giants a 20 way to play first quarter Sims can go real deep with that right arm [Applause] Chris down as he's across midfield and down to the 46 yard line of Kansas City a 14 yard game excellent pattern run by Williams a little delay outside man-to-man coverage all he does is go to the shoulder of the defense effect you can see it at the top right side of the screen films Phil Simms is waiting for Williams all the way contact made by the wide receiver he bounces off Louis 29 makes the reception Louis limped off he did in the first series with a pulled muscle or something he's back in there it appears to be alright Byron Williams goes out job well done 14 yards in the Giants go to the road and Joe Morris on a quick trap clock up the middle takes it inside the 40 and down close to another first down tell you what for a football team it offensively only averages three yards a carry watch spane the middle linebacker here he gets influenced by this trap he steps up and that's his big mistake that's an excellent run by Morris who can squirt through the smallest of seams Lloyd Burris the strong safety family Gannon but it was a nine yard game carpenter our football goes up the middle and gets the first down as he's down to the 35 yard line now back to NFL 84 in New York all right Don you know the Oilers have been playing well the past two weeks but as you mentioned they've fallen behind against Cleveland Paul McDonald to Brian Brennan a 14 yard touchdown pass he gets in the end zone Cleveland late shootin seven them and here at the Meadowlands the Giants driving with no score on the board in the first quarter Sims on first down but the ball is just a little bit high Lionel Manuel a seventh round draft choice the Giants knew they had a good one the first day of camp when they saw him run patterns it's an interesting choice Sims pump fakes down the middle this is a double rotation zone and you see the corners go up and the safeties go out what they're trying to do is just beat the safety to the sideline they're just a little bit overthrown done to this point Ron Earhart runs the offense for the New York Giants he's made excellent decisions decisions here been generally pretty conservative run the ball to get rid of the butterflies for the New York Giants they've nixed the run in the past six runs and six passes second and 10 again Sims is too high to a wide open receiver but Jill Morris is a tough target yeah I was going to make that point I think a wide receiver four inches taller with a made dead catch today that's part of the pressure of playing Phil Simms generally when you get in a pressure game like this you'll be a little bit off target and that when he threw just a little too high there was a good soft corner there that should have been completed like Roger Staubach used to say about throwing to Robert Newhouse said he was so short we used to short-sheet his bet he didn't know it [Applause] Sims cool under pressure stands in delivers in burro's almost went the other way a long way Zeke moet that tight end was the target even with the brace on his knee Mike Bell defensive end of the Kansas City Chiefs is a great pass rusher it's missed the entire week when you see him just push Benson right to the ground and almost get to the quarterback and see at the at the outset of the ball game you don't want to force things and in my estimation Phil Simms right there forced that ball in there you don't want to make those mistakes you want to go with the sure thing ali sheik now in to try the field gold it'll be a long one a 52-yard er he's been hot lately after a slow start they were called o'malley shank at the outset of the season now he's nine of his last 11 and it's gone short so a 52-yard er short and the Giants per chance right now and nothing nothing tie here at Giants Stadium Casey going for a third time on offense first intent Kenny to Carson bounce Kinney's down on the ground again Lawrence Taylor on Adelaide blitz there didn't quite get to him but Kenny has gotten up off the ground after every pass attempt today this telecast is presented by authority of the National Football League it is intended for the private use of our audience and any rebroadcast or other use of this telecast without the express written consent of the Giants in the National Football League is prohibited Don quickie with Bob Trumpy Giants Stadium second down in ten and the Chiefs go to the shotgun there's Taylor there's Taylor close to a late hit night Don I think that was a play designed exactly to take advantage of the Blitz by Lawrence Taylor watch the speed with which he gets to Kenny it appears that they're releasing Herrmann herd 44 away from Taylor you see him at the bottom there Kenny falls down as opposed to taking a hit Lawrence Taylor can change your mind about playing this game I read once where Woody Hayes said that he's never seen a player make a tackle with a smile on his face I think Lawrence Taylor is a candidate for that he's an hombre every down is Armageddon for once Taylor Pixar Penn State Leonard Marshall sleeps in under with not where they want to be as Jim Arnold is ready to put again very nearly block what a woman huge cut manual setting up her return and allow Chiefs and the Giants have not met often last year at Kansas City's Arrowhead Stadium Jan's took a 17 to 10 lead and then the Chiefs blasted him with 4 unanswered touchdowns and he threw for over 340 yards no score this game 519 to play first quarter Joe Morris dippin and dodging and getting nowhere the Oilers and the Browns fighting it out let's go back to NFL 84 all right Don we want to show you what just happened now in Houston the Oilers on all-out blitz Keith Bostick steals the ball from Paul McDonald he goes 25 yards for a touchdown they called it a fumble they're all tied up now at 7 boilers getting better to game win streak giant seven one three in a row all year there on a two game win streak second and nine Joe Morris comes out the backfield turns in gets the ball for a giant first down ten yard gain Morris an excellent receiver regardless of size Sam's going back this is a very conservative approach by the New York giant probably very smart you see underneath the linebacker coverage is finding a dead spot in the zone and then one of the things that's very noticeable about the New York giant receivers they catch the ball almost dead still and then gain yards afterwards they're excellent runners with the ball that's for sure they're not done once they catch it breakaway runners play-action intercepted during Cherie safety running back to the 43-yard line so sims goes deep in the Chiefs are sitting there in a zone and return at 22 yards around cherry that's the point he threw it right into a zone and at the outset of this program we said look take what they give you don't try to make the big play look how overthrown Zeke Mowatt is no chance at all for him to catch that football Kenny excuse me Sims should not have thrown it at all well the pressure builds the longer you're in on the tiebreaking procedures they have an excellent divisional record foreign to Kenny going for the home run Carlos Percy's there he's got the ball and Carson is out of bounds at the one-yard line go flags excellent pass protection by Kansas City and he catches that 156 yards worth Barry Williams on the coverage watch the move that Carson puts on it and gets right here it looks like he thinks there's going to be that's just a foot race Perry Wales could have done a lot better than that of course has got great speed he almost tips it away catches it on the rebound you got to be a smoker Trump to run by Williams he might be the fastest giant Carlos Castenada of LSU is a tricky receiver you're going to be sure he gave you some little head deke there to lose him now it's point-blank range for the Chiefs with no score on the board and Lacey tries the top and the Giants throw it back Jim Bert the middle guard got him tell you what the New York Giants are extremely tough down here they put Lawrence Taylor almost six yards deep in the end zone he comes out in like a projectile Burt makes the first contact Lawrence Taylor cleans up and they gained about the length of the football and that's it so they'll try again now from inside the one yard line Billy Jackson might get this one 43 [Applause] and again Kenny is down as he threw high to his tight end at Beckman Carl banks is the guy's right right in his face now watch lawrence taylor and where he lines up way back there he's expecting whenever there's a run he's blue this just the way they draw it up on a chalkboard LT plans defense the way he likes to play just roaming around back there ProTeams call this the redzone inside where you should score I'm watch Herman hurt [Applause] he was in her fairway no flag [Applause] the wide receiver Henry Marshall on a slant Lawrence Taylor was held up at the lair excuse me Henry Marcia was held up with the line of scrimmage so he couldn't get past all the people to see Marshall the contact and Lawrence Taylor on the stop this may be the psychological lip watch right here you'll see the content he Marshall he's trying to pick off Lawrence Taylor ball just thrown a little too hard this shows were right on and now they have to go to the field goal our ease never nest in his career from inside 30 yards [Applause] a bad snap from center to putter Jim Ireland is D bottle it and giant step the Chiefs on a first and goal inside the giant five [Applause] all the steps very well Arnold just took his eye off of it and if you're looking for a psychological lift for the New York Giants that's it let's see how high it lifts him so father but he's got to be mad at himself there's no reason that is certainly in the catchable zone so the Giants go live now Tenten [Applause] [Music] I have a feeling the New York Giants are surprising the Kansas City Chiefs with the amount of times they've rushed the ball to this point in the ball game with that 3.0 average for offensive rush you can't figure they're gonna be a threat but they get good blocking by Byron Walker and by Joe Morris Carpenter has nothing to do but just hang on to the football so the Giants get out of treble down they're not across they're 30 Carpenter stuck at the line got a head for one or two Jerry Blanton an inside linebacker 57 was the first to hit him those Chiefs safeties really play the run well to harass and Duran cherry were both up then okay now I think play-action would be a good choice here by the New York Giants they've run the ball decently Steelers with a 10 nothing lead over San Diego AMPA they with three field goals by our Erie out in front in Washington laying waste to Buffalo in the first quarter Kansas City flips get him art still was the guy got on the defensive end no luck at all keeping him out art still just went right around the offensive guard you see Belcher 73 the center trying to come out and help no chance still for his size at 6-7 to 65 as amazing agility and quickness and a guy with just as much although on a bad knee Mike Bell is in now at the other end to rush the passer so much for the emotional lift for the New York Giants take down now third and 15 no blitz a show blitz for then back off sin is going on gets a homerun ball but Albert Lewis number 29 flying down the field possibly from tip that ball just before it came in the Giants are doing two things or either throwing it out too flat or they're going for the distance I want to see some intermediate passing here that is the way that you can control a defense now watch Williams this is man coverage Louis does a good job that's a very difficult pass to complete an extremely difficult pass to compete complete and they still throw it now the live action on the putter fair catch is made at the 44 yard line hi Don you mentioned the score Three Rivers Stadium here's the play as the Steelers are in the end zone mark Malone the Lewis lips a 15-yard touchdown past the seventh touchdown reception of the year for the rookie out of southern with 127 to play in the first quarter you see nothing up yet Enza City had a golden opportunity first and goal on the giant one they scored no points Margaret comes in umpire threw it in it could be a hold on the Chiefs that's what it is you got it coach coach knack of a unusual perspective doesn t Trump these very calm and good times in bed one of the many assistants of Dallas who's been elevated to an NFL head coaching job 53 offense Bob rushed the center called for holding Brad Benson one of the giant offensive tackles being attended to well Giants defense gotta come up with a big play here turnover they got a stuff getting and Kansas City Chiefs get the ball back in decent field position for their offense Cincinnati having a big day at least at the moment first down and 20 [Music] hitch back giant Packers and rundown anybody and Gary reasons a fourth round draft choice out of Northwest Louisiana's brightest surprise of the rookie crop other than that wide receivers Don juicy mark Haines come up there man he came up there in submarine and offensive guard and just stripped away the interference and the linebackers are there to make the tackle and watch you'll see this body flying at the feet of the offensive guard right down there on the bottom that strips away the interference reasons there to make the tackle given reasons a big backer now he's out across the 40 yard line and close to the 45 Terry Cunard the giant free safety 43 tackle him but the gain was eleven yards still a long way to go for Kansas City caught him in the nickel you mentioned the size of Garry reasons all of these New York giant linebackers are huge six for all around 240 to 245 Pittsburgh now routing San Diego 17 to nothing [Applause] carlos carson now with good reason - the first time didn't look like he did but the spot will be all-important now with it put the ball down mark Keynes the all-pro corner made the tackle for the Giants Marshall does a good job here although I wish he'd run of all about run the pattern about two or three yards deeper he breaks the tackle of Lawrence Taylor that's saying something watch this good move and you're right Don it depends on the mark Gaines comes up to help and one of those those nutty linebackers that you find around the NFL just firing on people there to make the stop that'll do it for the first 15 minutes of play a shutout both ways super Don quickie with Bob Trumpy back at Giants Stadium the first quarter numbers hands a city with some pretty good offense something they've been devoid of in recent weeks they scored one touchdown in offense in the last five weeks haven't scored any today and they sure had a good shot at it but they are moving the ball the big play of course the 56 yarder to Carlos Carson to get them down close but I'm surprised Kansas City didn't go for it here well I guess after they had first and goal on the one and didn't get in they don't want to gamble now and down goes the punt angled by Jim Arnold out of bounds while a measure up and spot the ball let's go back to NFL 84 in New York all right Don a game of interest to Giants fans as the Redskins are opening up the score early against Buffalo John Reagan's a three yard run moves Reagan's in a third on the all-time touchdown list he also leaves the NFC with 12 touchdowns and quickly it's 17 nothing Redskins so the Giants getting no help today from the Buffalo Bills they did get a lot of help from Buffalo last week the bills one brief shining moment this season when they upset the Cowboys 14 to 3 start now in their 17 yard line [Applause] carpenter finally cut back for suit in position knock down first man to come up was Lloyd Burris the strong saftey big 210 pounds strong safety from Maryland see the meetings of the minds over there on the giant I'm telling you when there's pressure on you you wonder what's going on here why we can't do anything Giants have had lousy field position to average today in five possessions 23 yard line their own 24 yard line second seven and there's a sack M&M is Calvin Daniels big linebacker of former teammate of Lawrence Taylor at North Carolina second sack of the day for the Kansas City Chiefs and there was excellent coverage downfield Sam's basically had nobody to throw at you you see him looking all over the place Daniel's finally there to collar him oh my goodness bob phil simms isn't afraid to run the ball setting his whole career he's never had so much as a hangnail when he got hit running it it's been back there and getting seconds put him in the hospital he's been in the hospital a lot this will be his first complete season hopefully in six years there's one long yardage sim nice Smackdown by Lloyd Burris who's playing a big game at strong safety number 34 Galbraith was coming out of the backfield Don again you don't want to force it situations like this in a game where you must win it's up to the quarterback to make the right choices you see Parcells their son don't throw it late down the middle first was very close to picking that ball off and just Dave Jennings punting the ball not too deep this will come back at the Giants JT Smith and he's tough he ducks inside the 40 and down to the 39 yard line an 11 yard punt return so the Chiefs get it back good field position with 13:30 today's game is brought to you by Mazda and the full line of sophisticated mazda products by lite beer from miller everything you've always wanted in a beer and less and by your fire stone retailers coast to coast come on America drive over to Firestone let's phil simms on the phone to run Erhard up in the booth what's going on what can we get done what are the pressure of this football game Don Gerhart told me during the week properties we've got a tack on offense to make the ball go downfield we just can't run long plays right now numerous plays in the long drive well they Jackson doesn't get a thing Lawrence Taylor unloads on him on a first down carry first time I've seen Lawrence Taylor blitz actually watch he jumps right inside the tight in and the tight end has no chance whatsoever he's the action player on the defense they got to utilize him better at this point it can change the the whole tempo of the football camp LT they call him he can play basketball plays with the Harlem magicians in the aussies how about mr. LT gets that too he is the leader of the Giants both in play inspirationally as the Chiefs go to a throw and the ball is drilled inside the 30 Henry Marshall a big wide receiver number 89 galilee weighs 225 john you notice the difference Kansas City Chiefs have run quite a few 8 10 12 yard patterns that's just between two linebackers well thrown by Kenny it's almost impossible to stop the Giants have either thrown it out the flat are going very deep hill Kenny is South critical says I've gone for the big play too often met Sam he went to a percentage position pass and got the first down [Applause] Herman heard working hard dips in dips out got a head for a couple of yards Leonard Marshall fell on him 12:03 left to play in the first half Ron Jaworski the Eagle quarterback went down in that game with an ankle injury as the Cardinals lead the Eagles seven to three in the second quarter it's Byrd no problems with San Diego Chargers blue there's last week when they really had a great day beating Miami Tampa Bay now leading the Rams by just 2 after holding to a 9 nothing early lead [Music] [Applause] overhead slam at the net 55 reasons got his hand up right bill Kitty's face this was a delay blitz by the linebacker they're in a little twist up front see Carson 53 and reasons both finally come there's reasons up there were that big hand he's really been a good player yeah I'm telling you I just can't believe the size of these linebackers for the New York Giants but a lot of teams are going with smallish linebackers that are good at coverage giant linebackers seem to eater by year they get bigger test and he took it away stuff he was wide open and then the cupboards caught up headed hands on the ball and stuff on page took it away and the Chiefs around the board and Bill Parcells has a problem the defensive back standing back there is saying to himself oh I got an interception this is what I want but Paige rips it right away from him but you can see it try to catch the ball at the height as opposed to letting it come to you great catch big play by Kansas City and the pressure mounts on the New York Giants Kenny Hill the extra DB and tried to make the interception and stuff on page comes up with the play of this game so far are we to try to point after [Music] it's good so with 1121 to play by the new york giant defensive back right here at the end of the play now watch the defensive back right there if you'll stop it please look at his arms they should be extended to stop the ball away but what look where he tries to catch it he tries to cradle the ball what he should do is get his hands way out there and catch it as far away from his body as he possibly can get allows Steffen page to make the catch well point it out and it was the difference at least so far in this game as the Chiefs have a seven to nothing lead Nick Lowry ready to kick it off step on page with a big moment free agent from Fresno State that good punt return you recall by JT Smith set them in good field position and Kenny hits his second long pass of the game the first one set up a first and goal I never got points though Bill Parcells the giant coach instructing his assistants is right now Kenny is into the ball high spinner won't carry deep butch will fall yet to about the twenty and Calvin Daniels came down to make the tackle after just an 11 yard return look at that so far this offense that to the this point in the season is not performed particularly well they're staying in character today and pressure can make you a very average football player some people can barely draw a breath and down seven to nothing now I think a known know you're with a young Cincinnati team that went from an expansion year in sixty eight to the playoffs it's tough the thing is though the Giants have to treat this as a football game not one play they got three quarters left to get it done are still and Lloyd Burris ran him down an 11-yard game now as carpenter is getting around the corner both from scrimmage and catching involved Don there are only six players on the New York Giants as starters who played in those two playoff games in 1981 carpenter does have playoff experience with Houston and with the New York Giants they are relying on him heavily today and the thing that the New York Giants must do now is not panic stay with the game plan do not panic get well as you pointed out Trump they've got a long way to go just now in the Midway in the second quarter second in inches in Joe Morris works his way and gets a hit for the first down Morris is a senior Syracuse carried the ball 26 times a game came to the Giants as the second round draft choice and only carried it twice a games that it didn't feel good not to hurt on Monday a lot of young guys who don't know they're supposed to lose young and old everyone has pressure in a situation like this it's basically how each player responds it's up to as we set up the football game it's up to the big guys to make the big plays Don so far they have not made them too big play guys are split out to the left now manual and Johnson Morris goes out on the right way again Sam's is looking deep at first down [Applause] perfectly thrown ball just over the linebacker in the zone down with the ball for a 20-yard gain is Bobby Johnson Don that's a good choice instead of going out in the flat or nothing deep you're trying to hit the spot between the defensive backs and the linebackers straight drop back pass they finally get art still on the ground and Sims is a very very accurate passer you see the chains one of the reasons one of the ways that I'll tell you up to this play one of the ways the NFL has changed the most nowadays Giants go to the run again going wide and Joe most goes the distance around sherry got him he's been getting up either Joe Morris a rocket 16 yards down field this is a great sweep it's well led watch those guys get out there in front here's Rob carpenter an excellent blocker he just gets the corner out of the way and Morris turns it up and watch the hit the receiver helps to here's Williams little push in those shove the point I was going to make on the last pass play quarterbacks now must stop receivers in between people in a zone coverage and that's the way the NFL offensively has changed the most Ella Chiefs just stopped Joe Morris we go back to NFL 84 Don at RFK Washington is pouring it on Buffalo this pass from Joe Theismann to calvin Muhammad set up the latest touchdown watches Muhammad literally takes the ball away from Charles Rome that set up a Theismann to Charlie Brown touchdown passes 24 to nothing Redskins well Buffalo after that big moment against Dallas running up the white flag again their coach is going to be gone it seasons in Phil Simms fires downfield 24 yards strike right between the eight before Kansas City in that zone coverage Sims can put it right on the money you see the way he stops the receiver instead of leading him into the coverage he throws the ball to stop the receiver and against zone coverages nowadays that's exactly what you want a quarterback to do y A's record stood for a long time single season passing yardage Sims ad rather get those yards had taken into the end zone now the Giants with their best drive right now they're behind seven nothing second quarter [Applause] carpenter tries the middle and there's not much there we pause briefly for station identification this is the NBC television network this is w NBC TV New York with Bob from P this is Don crickey it sold out Giants Stadium in the Meadowlands of New Jersey the New York chance coming into this game a half game behind Dallas in the NFC East the Giants with the pressure on they having their power to win the division right now touchdown behind Kansas City but he gets up first really standing it on target down doron cheerio to tackle Morris was basically uncovered you'll see the blitz coming from the right hand side of the screen McAllister that leaves Morris out there all by himself look at that dot someone blew a coverage somewhere excellent catch excellent throw by Simms [Applause] [Music] [Applause] and the Giants are an extra point away from [Music] what's da m'lady he's the lead blocker carpenter just able to get in the end zone or that relieves a lot of pressure for the New York Giants this is an excellent job by the New York Giants offensive linemen it's tough scoring down there but lady just get somebody on the ground to allow carpenter in the end zone Sims right arm the big thrust in that drive is now le ready to try the point after he's right there in the Giants go 79 yards in nine plays Rob Carpenter over the top for the touchdown and we have a tie game with two these Giants they're working on one and 84 now a long way to go but they're fighting and they tied the game she kicks up and he hits it well done here comes JT snap [Applause] man's trouble bringing back the kickoffs remember the open back forty yards that was a 27 yard return and the Chiefs send out the offense if they can't take back the lead [Music] [Applause] bolon we've got a fight of another kind here today chief said they wouldn't bees and they haven't been yeah you're right the Giants this can't be comfortable for them the longer they have to wait and fight to get Kansas City out of this football game the more the pressure mounts that last going Drive an excellent opportunity now for the New York Times to just take a deep breath now let's see what the Chiefs do with Bill Kenny at quarterback he's thrown for their only touchdown and he's ready to put it up again young man Carl 48 yard line of the Giants Carson is a clever receiver he's a dancer you think you have him then puff like a puff of smoke he's gone with that quick move Giants was zone coverage Carson once again the speed to get down the field and just right between the linebackers and the defensive backs that ball is well thrown although somewhat wobbly once again you see Kenny Kansas City chief quarterback stopping the receiver in the dead spot in the zone that's the second quarter clock ticking down 435 to play game tied 7-7 the Chiefs playing for pride the Giants playing here's a reception [Applause] this has been a tough day on officials I just got another one on the ground Kinney had his joints he'd rather had that fall back not because it was intercepted but the tight end was very very well covered Dave Hamilton rep Willie Scott for 81 excuse me done 81 Willie Scott is very very well covered this is one of those naked rollouts he's got bred buddy as a personal ex escort go watch out covered Willie Scott is and he still throws it in there see there bounces off his hands courier gets it now watch the official up at the hash mark he's going to pay for being in the wrong place at the wrong time courier says whoop I'm going back here the official says wait a minute give me some pads [Music] Elsie's in next Sunday on NBC Sports the one o'clock games and then one at 4:00 that everybody will be waiting for the Raiders heading to Miami to take down the Dolphins Raiders you remember last regular-season blasted the Dolphins in Los Angeles Shula doesn't forget Simms swings it out here comes Rob carpenter she is going for the ball but they can't knock it away as Carpenter has been coming up with big plays particularly on that swing pass that's 11 yards Don I don't think it's it's any accident that the New York Giants are going to Rob carpenter with this playoff experience he's been there before this is well thrown by Sims - he gets pressure and he throws it over the defensive man there you see his arms up and carpenter with that good running instinct it's the first down for the New York Giants [Applause] Sims and first intend [Applause] intercepted by Kevin Ross as Ross's back to the giant 40 that was like super fast motion Kevin Rosso would rookie cornerback from temple seventh round draft choice man can go you can see that this ball is thrown behind Williams he runs a decent battery there's Ross you're going to see the whole thing unfold right in front of you ball thrown behind him it's a zone coverage Derron Gerry is standing right there and Ross you're right excellent speed to bring it back hard the guard showing some speed run them out of bounds hard the guard okay gilliard number 67 so now it's first intend for KC game is tied 708 in the second quarter Hurd working hard and Carol banks the number one draft choice of the Giants in Michigan State along with George Martin was on the tackle scoreboard moving along Pittsburgh blowing out San Diego AMPA Bay holding to a six-point lead over the LA Rams they're also contending for a wild card buffaloes on the board but way back of the Redskins at Washington Cincinnati still leading Atlanta by three touchdowns Cleveland up out Houston in the second quarter we've gotten word that Ron Jaworski the Eagle quarterback is out for the season with a fracture delay second down and four Lawrence Taylor makes the pop on Herman herd one of the things that teams do against the New York Giants is run at Lawrence Taylor it's one thing to block it you ought to get a plush just to get him off his feet and this guy is a I don't know how best to describe Lawrence Taylor there's just anything athletically that anyone wants someone to do Lawrence Taylor can do and the big thing of that I'm Trump is he never takes it down off good times or bad he plays every down like it's his last one last two drives in this game have ended with interceptions here's a swing pass for the completion to Theotis Brown fake back from UCLA gets ahead for first down yardage for Kansas City the game is tied 7-7 two minutes to play in the first half down tricky with Bob Trumpy at Giants Stadium and a perfect November day a pro and incomplete Henry Marshall a big wide receiver turning in at the ball it'll be second down in 10 say it Trump Kenny's getting some people open deep against the zone yeah you're right the other thing is obviously his elbow is not bothering him to this point although at halftime when you sit down I wonder if it'll stiffen up Kenny has been throwing the ball consistently when the Kansas City defense is on the field on the sidelines to keep that elbow warm looks like blitz by Taylor it gets the giant pass brush coming in Billie Jackson's knocked down loss of six on the play Carson and George Martin gather that's a very big play you see just trips nobody really makes contact Mary Carson mops up that makes that field goal coming up if they don't convert this third down a little more difficult for flouring they don't hit this pass the field goal B 51 yards [Applause] Russ's all and he has a man Henri macho he did not get the first down but he surely got it in good range for Nick Lowrey a 10-yard gain on the play they threw it right in the area where Lawrence Taylor was in coverage on Henry Marshall and Taylor comes up to make the interception watch this and then Marshall breaks it off that's a rare mistake by Lawrence Taylor you answer going to call a timeout Nick Lowrey a free agent out of Dartmouth was with seven different NFL teams before he hooked on with the Chiefs get down trying and finally not only made the team but went to the Pro Bowl he's never missed inside the 30 27 for 27 that was not an attempt earlier in the game you'll remember when the snap was fumbled by the holder Jim Arnold bill parcells the giant coach feeling the heat he and his team have an interesting attitude they're playing for themselves in the organization the fans long-suffering here in New York have been very fickle quick to boo this giant team so they've tuned that out the cheers and the boos they're playing for themselves in the organization they've done a good job they've not been in contention for a divisional title this late in the season since I guess what 72 all over the field and Kansas City's offenses or the New York giant offenses not really produced a lot of yards to hold at the 32 42 yard attempt by Bill Kenny yeah they change holders ready to see it from he's going to get that and so a 42-yard field goal attempt by Nick Lowery with Bill Kenny holding for the first time since last year and we find the Kansas City in turnovers defense has been in position our producer today for NBC Sports is David Neal our director John Gonzalez the executive producer of NBC Sports Mike Weissman is with us as the Giants in a game they must win are under the gun they have the ball at their 24 yard line first down in ten coming up Bobby Johnson comes wide left speed on the right flank Manuel Williams carpenter he's been catching a lot of balls excuse me Tony Galbraith coming out Giants into a two-minute offense into alignment without a huddle samhsa's kept that's going to be intercepted it could come back Albert Louis Plus and all of a sudden Albert Lewis is down to the aten now you see why the Giants are playing for themselves the organization the booze cascade down Don I think that's the fourth time if the ball has been tipped at the line of scrimmage by Phil Simms which is rather surprising because of his height but the defensive line of the Kansas City Chiefs getting great penetration and of course Simms is looking and it looked like art still again with his hand up there picked off and Albert Lewis certainly looks healthy there well what a turnaround 19 seconds left you can see that the ball is just up in the air Lewis quick to recover he gets the ball well what a nightmare for the New York Giants third interception of Phil Simms Chiefs had 23 intercepts for the year 46 sexes Danny looks he throws it's going to go in Willie steps on the payoff end and all of a sudden the Chiefs bust open a 7 7 game with a field goal and now a touchdown and they extend their lead to 16 to 7 Jan mackovic you can't tell if he's behind or ahead 16 7 but you can tell Parcells is 10 points in less than one minute ourselves obviously not happen and pressure does is to a football team Scott was not picked up by anybody Harry Carson 53 the closest one you hate to blame him but they did have Lawrence Taylor on the Blitz so that means they're single coverage somewhere one play five seconds NBC statistician Joe Costanza totaling up the length of that Drive be a record for shortness Lowry puts it up and good and with 14 seconds to play in the first half the Giants have a problem right now watch this but you'll see Willie's got released from the right there he is bumped by Carson and then let go oh what a terrible mistake by the New York Giants disapproval Lawrence Taylor pacing the sidelines as the Giants all of a sudden the game find themselves down 17 to 7 three interceptions of Phil Simms have been costly for the Giants Chiefs playing hard tough football one of their best games in a long time they said they wouldn't they have Sims takes a look it's going to be picked off now it's blocked back down almost gone again done the receiver just stood there seems his throwing that ball look he's got his hands up in the air telling the receiver come back to the football son that's a mistake that's a rookie mistake Bobby Johnson watch he stands right there and waits for the ball hook does not move the defensive back is moving towards the football a first down means nothing that was Albert Lewis almost went back the other way this will be the final play of the half and then we'll be checking posing quarterbacks both in their sixth years aim in different ways Kenny was a free agent of Northern Colorado bill Sims the number one out of Moorhead state right now the Chiefs the underdog have the upper hand as they kickoff to open the second half Lowery drills it downfield goes into and out of the end zone down to the end zone for a touchback breakdown the first half numbers here about da net ball that kickoff should have been returned by someone the turnovers are the big factor the three interceptions this is the first game the pill Sims is played under pressure now you don't want to put it totally on his shoulders but the Giants time of possession the Giants short on yards put the three turnovers and simply the lack of aggressive play by the New York Giants makes it 17 7 Kansas City Dyanne shut down Neal Lomax of st. Louis last week with a conservative defense that blitz very seldom but intercepted Lomax four times they've only gotten one bill Kenny so far Joe Morris to the run and he breaks into a cameras across the 30 Barriss in Derron sherry the Safety's made the knockdown for the Chiefs the Giants cannot run and very well done a good thing for the Giants is that they're still in the ball game trailing 17 to 7 but they've got to come out with an entirely different attitude and that is look this is the most important half of football we will play this season we don't want to leave anything on the field for Kansas City it's simply a case of hey let's do what everyone let's have fun nice playing in East Rutherford New Jersey 17 to 7 is fun but there's a long way to go in lavender breaks into open field as the giant offensive line comes out smoking their fire enough the snap of the ball and busting open the KC defense that was good for a 17 yard gain oh this will help them this will help them agree it's a great move by Rob carpenter not known for quickness and speed and yet displays both on that particular run Rob carpenter a team leader though 7th year for Miami had some good seasons at Houston didn't play a lot with the likes of Earl Campbell in front of him he's really helped the Giants they go right back to 26 Spain he was there to fill and so was Calvin Daniels he was the first to hit him Chiefs with the big rangy linebacker on the left side and Koenig Alistar former basketball player you see the rushing of carpenter virtually doubled that of Kansas City as a team Don it's not unusual James Wilder of the Tampa Bay Bucs is has more rushes in this 1984 football season than the entire Kansas City chief football team whatever it takes though and the Chiefs have done it with interceptions Alert defense to take a 17 to 7 lead second and 9% this one of those you wish you could come over if you to Joe Morris or the Giants he went down turned out and Sims was right there he was absolutely wide open once again a tough target the hit but this ball is an important pass for the New York Giants to complete because it's the first pass attempt for the second half and in the first half the Giants weren't that successful throwing it pressure builds on the Giants they started the day a half game behind the Cowboys in Dallas at eight and five after the Thanksgiving Day win you saw on NBC Sports over New England Washington also in a second-place tie with the Giants and they're barreling over Buffalo today the Giants could be in third place of days in they will the ball down Chiefs took it away Bobby Johnson caught it and they're going to rule in a reception in the first down a 19 yard game 31 Kevin Ross still on the ground this ball is on the money laces up on the right foot on Bobby Johnson man coverage Ross covered him across the middle great concentration on the football let's see if in fact he is down whoa that's pretty close to being a fumble I think the Giants got a very friendly call there it did appear as he was going down he lost possession of it the official right there though and it goes as a 19 yard games where the Giants start to challenge on their first possession of the second half Morris [Applause] Boyd permison Joe Morris hook up hit on now it becomes a test for the Kansas City defense through the first half they played extremely well Morris has faith in his blockers jumps inside a block by Rob carpenter good hit by Burris no doubter there Joe Morris 7 a good game running the ball he's cut some also second an inch is nice down for Sims at the Giants that can throw if they want to they go to the line and carpenter turns up field now for that good tackle in the open field by Kevin Ross carpenter could have gone down close to the goal line let's make that a great tackle this Kansas City defense has played very well tonight throughout the 1984 football season you can't look at them and say they haven't done their job this is not an easy defense to get the ball down the field on now the Chiefs have played good defense have given up only 20 touchdowns oddly enough the offense of Kansas City has given up 9 9 times the opposition has returned interceptions and fumbles for scores against the Chiefs [Applause] I'm first down Sam's licks in the endzone fires in that pattern a tip ball well done by Albert Lewis Don when phil simms threw that ball the minute it left his hand he jumped up in the air realizing oh no I shouldn't have thrown that they get out of it though Kansas City's defensive backs have done an excellent job of only dropping so far and then standing there and waiting for Simms to throw the football so the Giants now go second down and 10 from the 17 yard line [Music] a good defensive flame generally plant inside linebacker ran him down on the Giants if not fooled the Kansas City Chiefs yet today and this is the biggest third down that the Giants have faced so far that's a about 100 and didn't didn't I see that that Joe Morris had 50 yards 120 yards rushing the Giants have and this is a team at average three yards per rush coming into the ballgame they came out running here in the third quarter they've moved the ball down but a very big down now Giants down by 10 points [Applause] now this could be a closed 14-yard gain uh feeling we're seeing the results of some of the leaders of the New York Giants at halftime taking all this football team it may have been Phil Simms it may have been Galbraith that may have been carpenter may have been Parcells somebody went in and yelled and screamed and this is the net result a very good Drive that started at their own 20-yard line [Applause] carpenter went over the top you'll recall earlier for the Giants only touchdown pitch back tomorrow [Applause] Blanton nailed him George Martin and Andy hidden two defensive players come into black often on short yardage play Giants only have two tight ends and watch Martin block number 75 now an interesting thing if they if he's going to change positions which of course he wouldn't do on the offense but if he must change positions he has to go out for a play that's why they bring in two defensive players a linebacker heading a defensive tackle Martin now Mulla Dean goes in motion 81 sets up our left that must be the way they're going to tight ends there over the middle our thunder hits down on second and goal from just over two yards at the Chiefs at this point giving up inches grudgingly down rather goal line it will be third and goal from the wand as we said this defense of the Kansas City Chiefs is a very respectable defense most of the times you'll see defensive linemen play mul on that offensive line to try to bury themselves into the ground and I got to think that this is a four down territory even though they're only ten points behind emotionally let's see if carpenter goes over the top that's how they get the first touchdown carpenter over the top he's got it touchdown Giants [Applause] right back in business we know the offense starts the second half in the mood to play bartender with a good effort to get in the end zone now once again falls on the shoulders of the New York giant defense when Kansas City takes the field with the ball extra point real big right now Bill Parcells enjoy that moment as you'll see now after la she fixed the extra point guy answer back to it in three let's watch the touchdown and then see how coach Parcells took it all in from behind the defense C Giants can get Kansas City players on the ground and Bill Parcells will he celebrate or just take a big deep sigh of relief [Music] the touchdown will be today's game is brought to you by Lincoln what a luxury car should be buy GTE advancing technology and telecommunications and electric products and by old milwaukee and old milwaukee light it doesn't get any better than this Giants get their first possession of the third quarter and take it down the field mixing the run in the pass and carpenter in for a second score and it's a ball game against 1714 the Chiefs running back the kickoff with a three point lead [Applause] JT Smith is definitely a player as he's out across the 25 Rob carpenter having a big day they'll need some more though we'll be back in a moment gone now bill Simms directing the giant offense today Bennett bill Kinney the Kansas City Chiefs at first intend it's a 17-14 game in the third quarter Casey in the lady tailor comes us smoked in in carl backx on the other side thanks smoke side through first and gets him [Applause] this defense throughout the 1984 season has been the inspiration of the New York Giants banks the first-round pick out of Michigan State just runs around the running back Kenny's been on the ground an awful lot today even though he's reduced 17 points Don the giant defense takes command second that Kansas City change [Applause] BECs some of the lost yardage on the sec but it's going to be long yardage now in third down for the Chiefs as the ball is spotted they're 24 yard line relentless defense by the giant linebackers those inspirational players can ignite a whole team usually it's Taylor banks with a big play the sack date on his game kills you emotionally just psychologically at this point New York Giants almost breathless they got to make the big play here make sure that Kansas City doesn't get that first down keep the momentum [Applause] Carlos Carson over the middle [Applause] first down so the Chiefs have to punt the ball back to the Giants in all of a 776 thousand stand in salute at times on his defenses allowed to freelance by Bill Parcells you see he and reasons dropping back and sown coverage generally when he hits you you go down GMR already to punt an all-out rush and idle drills a line drive downfield [Applause] across the 40 to the 43 yard line of 46 yard punt but Manuel comes back with a 22 yard return [Music] whatever was set at halftime whoever said it should get a game ball because the New York Giants have played like an entirely different football team through the first nine minutes of the first second half we'll be it all begins again on NBC Sports I'm looking forward Trump to join in kochiyama McGuire for that one anybody looks forward to join an album wire comment here Don this is the difficult grammar the ballgame for the New York Giants momentum difficult to get almost impossible to maintain first in 10 Giants trailed by 3 back to the runner this time the Chiefs dick Joe Morris runs in art still 67 nails him can't give enough credit to this Kansas City defense basically going nowhere in the playoffs and given it their level best today against the playoff team this is a comfortable position for the Kansas City Chiefs disregard the record it can be spoilers for a lot of football teams they can still have a winning year they can end at 5 and 7 second down 11 lost his hat but he held on to the football five yard game [Applause] is one hombre he's a tough customer he won't last them with the blocks excuse me better blocker than he is a receiver but look at the time he's got and then once again with guys all around Mowatt able to make the completion how about a screen here Don I don't throw it on low add up and when they do he appreciates it big big blocker which linebackers on their back Morris no Galbreath and he's stuck and he get to the line of scrimmage so the Giants have to punt it Giants gamble a bit going to the run on third and five we pause for station identification this is the NBC television network this is w NBC TV New York JT Smith back to returned the putter Dave Jennings gets it Highsmith's gonna bring it back from the 16 through the 20 [Music] large part of this game is sheer courage in JT Smith has plenty of that Carl banks knocked him down at the 23-yard line so the Chiefs with a three-point lead send their offense back out the Dolphins and the Broncos will be there that's official already Steelers look like they're going to win the AFC Central there right now leading San Diego by a good margin [Applause] it ain't easy in the AFC West a teeny division it sent three teams of the playoffs last year and won nine to the Super Bowl championship Defence's starting to take control here in the third quarter you're right Don defense Stark starting to take control for the New York Giants and that's a little more in character for these fellows which Lawrence Taylor along with Marshall 70 right in front of him this is a cutback by Billy Jackson and it doesn't work rarely does that guy three times an all-pro in his first three seasons first-team all-pro twice the NFC Defensive Player of the Year in his first three Carlos Carson has the ball boy he is sweet off the flank Carlos Carson just runs the fly and times up the ball angling down and that high trajectory it's a 25 yard gain single coverage by the New York Giants you see Taylor blitzing this is well thrown by Kenny the defensive back never takes a look it's mark Haines supposedly a Pro Bowl player one of those Carson today the head I'd get it to him more often 1 456 that one good for 25 3:42 play third quarter Chiefs with a three point lead 1714 that one got away from Kenny he was looking at Henry Marshall 23 Perry Williams was the defensive back it's not Kenny role just a little bit here's Lawrence Taylor once again on the Blitz this time they respect his ability to get to the quarterback Brad buddy offensive guard pulls to blocking all overthrown scoreboard changing around the NFL on this the 13th Sunday of play Tampa Bay holding to a two-point lead on the Rams pitch back Herrmann herd [Applause] golly markers down also and the hidden another of those huge giant linebackers 54 65 to 35 out of Clemson thought Herrmann heard when he lost his footing trying to cut back 3:30 to play in the third quarter and the Giants still don't have a penalty offside 81 after pill tears decline down [Applause] not a comment here regardless of what happens in this particular Drive it does appear that the Giants will once again lose field position it was one of the things that plagued him in the first half cheats conversely at excellent field position for most of the first two quarters 14 for Kansas City [Applause] Gary Williams helot but couldn't hold on Don that's a great job by Carlos Carson making sure that there was not the interception the Carson runs a pretty precise pattern here they had an all-out blitz you can see someone ran the wrong pattern but watch Carson he does the thing when Williams gets his hands on the ball strips it away make sure there's no interception so the Giants trailing by three we'll get it back whoa leaving cutter in the NFL Shaq won [Applause] so the Giants will get surprisingly good field position they're gonna spat the ball in about 32 Giants and I thought was the most difficult of the day to sustain momentum now they really got their work cut out for them now Phil Simms has got to emerge as one of the offensive leaders of this team if he hasn't been before now this becomes a big drive for the Giants didn't get there last time back to the run Joe Morris little guy doing his best a little short powerful little back dough at 195 pounds five seven Cardinals continue to lead the Eagles who without their leader Ron Jaworski he went down with a leg fracture today Cardinals still in the chase Steelers leading San Diego in the third quarter at Pittsburgh's Three Rivers Stadium the Rams contending for an NFC wild card trailing by just two at Tampa Florida clock running here at Giants Stadium 240 to play third quarter Kansas City leading the Giants 17 to 14 [Music] [Applause] Giants [Applause] you have no idea how much better phil simms feels right now he's good fast protection one thing and we don't see now that we saw in the first half is those Kansas City defensive linemen with their hands right up in his face obviously the offensive line of the New York Giants doing a much better job of protection first down gets only to the line of scrimmage defensive line number one objective against the run seal the interior make him go wide but the linebackers run it down you know one thing that you have not seen the second half is the Giants throw the ball on first down generally they've run it Ronni Earhart their offensive coordinator said really move the ball we have to attack cannot firing they fell behind and started to fire and get back in the game that's the third quarter winding down 122 to play blitz [Applause] he is an athlete though we got a flag down at the line of scrimmage it was a great effort to hold against the Janssen would it come back anyway their first penalty of the ballgame [Music] holding 63 off their second down Carl Nelson he's lined up all day CROSSMARK still not a good place to be art stills been tough guy to hold out today they were double-team him he was still getting in block two passes in the first down tremendous player and left defensive end almost landed up over the ball here comes still 67 Sims gets it away and the ball is caught by Bobby Johnson down [Music] 19-yard gain on a second and 20 he's going to be just short of the first down Don once again we made the point in the first half it's worth repeating that quarterbacks nowadays in the NFL when they read that defense they stop the receiver with the ball you see Johnson's almost dead still and he's still on the ground he got hammered Lord Burris of the Kansas City Chiefs big catch but once again that ability of the quarterback to read the defense and of course the receiver is concentrating on the football it's the quarterbacks responsibility to lead the receiver into the dead spot in the zone both those safeties drop doing a lot it's the Giants and the Chiefs down tricky with bad Trumpy Giants Stadium 43 seconds to play now 40 third quarter and the Chiefs the underdog lead by three oh they stopped it third and one and I believe they did chiefs continue to come up with big plays they got carpenter who's twice going on that same play over the top four touchdowns you go for it call him to go for it everybody loves a gambler till he loses see what Bill Parcells does I think you go for it he's going to take time out to think about it yeah it would be a 30 to 42 and 7 49 yard field goal for hala Sheik Chiefs were the ones that call the timeout with 22 seconds to play in the third quarter halftime Kansas City right Don Coryell who's got a smarter quarterback as in the game and Dan Fouts calls the plays that they do from upstairs he says it's impossible to call your own place with as many defenses as you see only nine seconds left on the 30-second clock Don they go to the run go to the 30 see where they spot the ball that says he did a dime fourth-down why in the world where they come from the shotgun with four wide receivers and Tony Galbraith who has not run the ball yet today from the line of scrimmage I believe that was his first carry of the ball game wait a minute what's going on here from the shotgun Galbraith first carry no way 94 McAllister in there to make the tackle knows of the ball is almost at the 30 so the chains come out let's see carpenters got close to 80 yards Morris has got close to 60 yards and they bring in a guy for his first carry of the ball game on the biggest play of the ball game from the shotgun formation I have the feeling out there there'll be headlines about this one tomorrow everybody loves a gambler till he loses and the Jets come up short on that not sometimes you outsmart yourself [Applause] but as he made it and he missed by an inch did like New Year's even here still that's a very low percentage play to call in that particular situation history now and the chief sent the ball with a three-point lead he does this time as he comes out across the 45 yard line Harry Carson ran him down potential Bates securities we're Account Executives provide total financial planning by the people of AT&T communications we're thinking about your business in ways you never thought of and by General Motors extra time extra effort and attention to every detail GM is committed to excellence [Music] without Trumpy this is down crickey back at Giants Stadium the Giants on defense trailing in this game that's so important to their future in the NFC East in 84 its 1714 Giants gamble on fourth down and didn't get there throws a swing pass to Herman heard he's out across midfield gain of four giants almost double the possession but if the Giants season comes down to that missed fourth down I think if I were a member of the Giants coaching staff I'd much rather take my chances with Rob Carper news had a good game carrying the football or Joe Morris as opposed to Tony Galbraith on his first carry of the ball game from the shotgun formation that blows my mind [Applause] second and five where they had the ball spotted Jen Lacey another rookie runner takes the ball ahead he's from Tulsa free agent George Martin number 75 made the tackle for the Giants along with big Leonard Marshall number 70 Leonard trimmed down guy now Trump we saw him in the Orange Bowl few years ago came into the giant camp about 310 had an offseason fat attack now he's down to seven this is a very active defensive line I found rather odd that last year you couldn't find a defensive lineman anywhere in the top ten for tackles and this year per turn nose tackle along with Marshall they're up there in the top five third and three not tough down a good throw and look at that Carson the dancer turning out on the defense they're playing away often even the all-pro mark Haines is excellent point on it was an awful big cushion that mark Haines gave you you can see the zone coverage here watch 55 who drops out in coverage and he doesn't get underneath and that's the middle linebacker you'll see him coming right here he's the guy who's coming out underneath the coverage I'm not very good with that arrow I came close to it though you understand what I'm saying [Applause] be for effort thank you very much coach I tried here we go on first down and he swings it out the elders Brown short out on the ball yeah there are some linebackers that can put you right and Carl banks was the man there in coverage once Taylor on the blitz they've done an excellent job Brad buddy and lacy both of them well that's plus they almost got him to the ground when he goes to the ground yeah they're long one thing you have to do when you play the New York Giants you've got to identify where Lawrence Taylor is on every single offensive down like a Polaris missle the threat always the threat if threat becomes very real on most doubts they're always thinking about no pitch back they run away from him the oldest second down and ten doesn't get much it'll be third and long as handy hidden him over and made the knockdown for the Giants it looks like they're having a good one in Tampa Florida the Bucs holding to a two point lead in the fourth quarter over the LA Rams Cleveland leading Houston 20 to 10 here at Giants Stadium Kansas City the underdog but a team that blessed to the Giants a year ago 38:17 holding to a three point lead over the favored Giants in the fourth quarter well 45 to play clock running walk ball going deep in very good coverage can hard the free safety for the giant step first step courier the strong safety was doubling up second half the Giants have come a little more with the Blitz and you see Lawrence Taylor again they also had banks 58 on the Blitz but he's to the ground center Bob brush and also Kent lacy so now fourth down comes up and Lowry setting up at least to boom a long one this will be a 53 yarder he can get it that far [Applause] fifty-two officially good-looking kicked in he's right there Nick Lowery delivers the long ball for three more Kansas City points and now the Giants need a touchdown as the Chiefs open up a 20 to 14 lead Don once again real Kenny the quarterback holding he did it all last year Lowery Goff he just hit the long ball from 52 yards out for a KC field goal in the Chiefs have a 20 to 14 lead a high spinner Morris a yard deep here he comes big defensive play coming down to get him with scat rat a sick rookie linebacker from Penn State and John once again very very poor field position for the New York Giants 12:28 to go though lots of time for Phil Simms they need seven points to keep that record of rushing over a hundred yards a good record - all conversation unless you win the game right now the Giants go first 10/10 Sims looking to put up a screen pass to carpenter boys are doing some hitting today a loss of a yard Albert Lewis some Grambling came up and got him well covered outstanding coverage by the Chiefs defense still goes in on the pass rush and then realizes that Carpenter is out there in the flat for the screen there to help out on the tenth tackle on you want to hear one of the classic understatements the Giants have lost their momentum at the moment they have done that when swinging that right I am a Phil Simms though can get it back he's going to try now in second and 12 he gets it away and does very well to do that as he was falling down Jerry Blanton the linebacker was an along with Kelvin Daniel's linebacker blitz and they almost had a safety that would give the Giants real trouble if they had gotten that they'd be down by eight with the Giants and the city holding to a six-point lead in the fourth quarter it's a single coverage by Kansas City and outstanding pressure up front Blanton their first you can you see the official in it right behind Phil Simms you can see almost put the whistle in his mouth to get ready to blow it then he didn't and allowed seems to throw it to avoid the safety 11:41 to play in the game Giants set up third and 12 closer to 11 Sims takes his time he's cool under pressure [Music] [Applause] Albert Lewis brilliant defensive play by the second-year quarterback from Grambling stride first ad Williams had him beat and then Lewis recovered the Giants once again going with what I consider a very low percentage pass it's single coverage James has got plenty of time plenty of protection that's a very low percentage pass to try to pick up ten yards in a crucial situation done back to live action a very good punt by Dave Jennings JD Smith every year the year of living dangerously for a JT Smith he'll run it back no matter how close the coverage of 43-yard upon a 2 yard return the Chiefs have the lead in the football when we come back radio for Kansas City today bill Kenny's at the controls and he's done well his team leads 20 to 14 11:25 to play defense will be looking for that ball and here they come good coverage by the Giants is this planet up tight on Carson Carlos Carson courier doubling up couriers played some great football at 10 tackles unassisted and two fumbles forced against the Cardinals last week he was a real key to the victory there's little pushing off like Carlos Carson on that particular play - officials didn't draw the flag but receivers try to win those battles of contact with defensive backs [Applause] the bill Kenny's number just the one interception interceptions have been the difference because Casey's turned the interceptions of citizen to points Giants turned around I can Lacey into only about a yard it'll be 39 LT has the ability to run around blocks and be there to make the tackle Kansas City turned conservative here they want to hang on to the football and I can't say that I blame them and use field position to run out to look rest of the ball game Don lots of run out down to a long way to go 10:50 in the clock running we're in she's going through as a city with a 17-14 way yep [Applause] first down gone if there's one thing Kansas City has been able to do all day long today again single coverage their receivers running crossing patterns watch page right in front of Lawrence Taylor their ball tipped by heavy still caught by page they've just outrun the defensive backs of the New York Giants he is the inside guy I watch him it see the contact and then it's just a foot race and obviously Kansas City's receivers have better foot speed than the giant defenders and the Chiefs get four new downs and go to the run right up the middle of Herman herd runs George Martin catches him I'm beginning to come a factor now as the Chiefs for the 20 to 14 lead run it down at 9:45 they're pretty close to long field goal range we've seen Nick Lowery hit one from 52 yards out his last to town now the scoring broke down it was 17 seven at the half Giants with a fine drive in the third quarter get back to within three Chiefs got tough again and came down the field then allow a boom the long one to give them a six-point lead single coverage again touchdown Kansas City Carlos Carson the super-quick wide receiver from LSU and again he beats the all pro mark Haines and Dante had two receivers wide open once again single coverage and it's just flat foot speed kenny has plenty of time to throw the ball here sets up going all away Carlos Carson you're having a big day that's his fourth catch and he's around a hundred and fifty yards now honored fifth catch 153 yards keeping the line up next week I hope to tell you who can never forget the yo you caught 37 tight end for a 22 yard average a lot of people have that I won't extra point now with Kenny holding again Nick Lowery drills it up and good so the cheap so came in here saying we're going to play him tough and Morgan opposite and up and try to get the ball down the field score that first touchdown as as quickly as you possibly can to get back in his football game I want to repeat Don it may come back to that fourth down and inches from shotgun with Tony grout Galbraith on his first carry of the ball game that determines the outcome of this contest we're all coaches are we go to yes we are in sight up here that's not [Applause] classic she's looking the corner but he goes out of things at the eleven will folk former number one is given the Giants very little this season Carson has been all trove for Kansas City today fabulous day five balls for 153 yards the last was in the end zone we talked to people call it a quarterback coach to the Kansas City Chiefs prior to the ball game and he said they drug out last year's film when the Chiefs beat Kansas City it may have given them a spiritual lift the offense of the Kansas City Chiefs had struggled over the last six weeks looking at that film last year it provided a more real incentive right now their defense will look to keep that incentive alive as they go after Phil Simms he's open there's a man see more takes the hit he's a hit for a first down a 27-yard game this is just a case of vertically going up the field between two defenders well thrown by Sims nice touch on the ball you see a Kansas City to tip defender got to get his hand up there gets by mo on Floyd Burris really nail down but Zeke's ahead with a big play for the Giants they need two touchdowns with 838 to play another open man and again it's moe [Applause] very wisely takes it down the field and out of bounds to stop the clock with a 21 to play they gotta hustle stop the clock whenever they can you don't fight four inches in this situation good play-action fake Mowatt who has not really been much of a receiver throughout this day standing there wide open Kansas City's got to keep his head now remember the defenses and make sure you you cover those guys at those scoopa gloves on to Zeke they're working they're looking at him again now since looks away it goes down the middle again Bobby Johnson was there in an alert defensive play the ball was tipped away McAllister the big rangy linebacker from San Francisco never played college football was a good basketball player at USF whoa Dickerson just went in for a touchdown the Rams keeping their wildcard hopes alive as they go ahead of Tampa Bay Cleveland beating in Houston 27 to 10 McDonald having a big day for the Browns and the Chiefs who haven't had many are having a big day here at Giants Stadium Anza City hurt for the 5 and 7 record and an underdog leading the Giants 2714 Joe Harris gets the ball he's down to the [Applause] Mora's looked it all the way in Albert Lewis the cornerback got a little greedy he was going for the interception there 18 yards on a catch watch how close this is number Lewis if he goes stay there he tries to go for the interception as a close to the tackle nevertheless great catch 1st down Giants woobin Giants stayed in bound from Morris now at bringing the bone out of the 20 cream of the clocks aliveness down to 7:35 Flitz what Papa John's touchdown Giants [Applause] play single coverage Johnson on Ross and this time the speedy Johnson outruns Ross Kansas City has done that offensively of the New York Giants all day times finger welded to try it ourselves thrown by sales free agent who's been in the end zone seven times with touchdown receptions the season it's a twenty seven to twenty game the Giants with a big extra point coming up now it's a six-point lead for the teeth [Applause] to go 7:30 to play Kansas City comes with a blitz single coverage on the outside it's well picked up just enough air underneath the ball for Johnson the 100 excellent catch [Applause] like a new offense out there absolutely right Kansas City's running the same defense little inspiration from somewhere for the Giants here's the kickoff now spinner goes down feel and JT Smith from the five to the 27 yard line and the Chiefs now will try to run the clock and get the ball downfield and the Giants will be digging into Tina defense I would make one suggestion for the New York Giants don't run been able to keep up with the Kansas City chief wide receivers never would my grant once said about man-to-man coverage the only good thing about it is when somebody gets beat you know who to blame stay in zone [Applause] free safety [Applause] it's for a first down another superb play caskets combination this time Henry Marshall takes the ball down for a 13-yard gain and as Kansas City chief offense has done an excellent job in zone coverage meaning Marshall comes up for the football that is an outstanding catch watch how high he has to go Lawrence Taylor is right underneath him at the 40 Marshall still goes up and gets that ball big play 6:40 to play clock running sheep slayed by six [Applause] Bert stuffs the rhyme but the clock continues to tick in the Chiefs at their leisure we'll go back into a huddle we look at the scoreboard the Eagles back Natta within one over the Cardinals Cardinals leading that game Cincinnati last in Atlanta [Applause] here at Giants Stadium it's 27 to 21 the Chiefs are in the late with second down and seven coming up [Applause] arey Carson he's been added a long time but he still has the quickness and he runs down the running back and they've stayed with zone coverage that certainly helped them a great deal watch Carson you'll see him all the way Lacey releases this is an outlet pass good choice by the New York Giants when zone covers [Applause] in this game [Applause] [Applause] dan so get it back on a punt as the Chiefs come up empty on they otis Brown was the intended receiver they ran million coverage but they could put pressure up front Denton 54 right his face Guinea just overthrows it a little bit the artist Brown the intended receiver Lawrence Taylor yes sir we'll take it he's something at me Kansas City now 4 of 13 third downs converted into first downs for this game there's Jim Isles whoa right in the Secaucus that's Anantha Scott's first team all-american fifth round draft choice and he leads the NFL in gross yards and the all-important net yards here come Sims and the giant offense with the pressure I may certainly respond to the last time they got the ball about a trump 503 to play they get time skins game coming up next on NBC Sports channel Palmer Jack Nicklaus Gary Player and Tom Watson battling the high stick skins game where a single putt could be worth three hundred sixty thousand dollars [Applause] that's next but right now [Applause] they classless batter looks bringing it back saying he was out of bounds Lionel Manuel was the guy came down with a ball well instant was the man in pursuit Sims had no one to throw it to you see him looking around the entire football field there's nobody there and in desperation then throws it here he's trying to throw it away and the catch is made but his foot was out of bounds that was an excellent call by the officials they need something on the intermediate range he got some officials going to the whirlpool after this one I deal with them down to Giants cats to head this game Washington's winning big Dallas already has this week second and ten super jalaja Syracuse is ahead for sixteen years in a first down [Applause] we've seen it play quite often today for some reason forest lining up as a split in is totally uncovered they think he's nothing more than a decoy seems with a good arc on the ball over Calvin Daniels and the smartest thing that Morris does step out of bounds 448 left and the Giants have two timeouts very important point Morris stepping out of bounds stopping the clock [Applause] sin sets his offense rpenter the lone setback phil simms takes it up the middle and gets to midfield 14 yards kevin ross finally got him i'm phil simms and his choices there were a couple of receivers open but you can see decides to just keep a plant in 57 picked up by Rob carpenter which is a very important block here you see Bobby Johnson and phil simms hanging onto that football with both [Applause] bill Simms is at knee surgery shoulder surgery hand surgery but the openings air is going to run right at the defense [Applause] [Music] he gets out of bounds at the 35 yard line [Applause] Zeke spit catch on the day 14 yards on that one he has been a great outlet receiver for Phil Simms when the outside guys are getting a lot of attention once again don't fight French's get out of bounds now 357 level Chiefs dig it in on defense says it mowett having a very productive day big receptions now the Giants down to the Kansas City 35 yard line if there's a blitz reman rush [Applause] he's the swatch of Kim writing done Scott Radisson line ninety-seven [Applause] close he comes to intercept in his fall watch Radisson right in front of him somehow he gets it [Applause] welcome those of you who've been watching the Browns in the Oilers this is Don Ricky with that Trumpy Giants Stadium in the Meadowlands of New Jersey the Giants in the game he pays with the Redskins in the Cowboys ride they trail Kansas City by six Burstyn goal [Music] get closer from the floor he advanced it to the two now you worry about the simple snap from center if you're Bill Parcells the offense has got to keep his head hang on to the football Kansas City is going to be stripping away as best they possibly can xico had promised having a career day six receptions for 123 Carlos Carson has had a fabulous day for Kansas City is that seems the underdog we'll see for how long [Applause] yeah [Applause] seems very late showing this he doesn't see he's standing out there the guy who governs got picked off by the wide receiver on inside Volta Zeke boa he's about the third receiver he makes sure with those skin her gloves import next to point [Applause] Giants have come back 13 points down to take Philly [Applause] touchdowns it moment catching three balls in that drive including think that they came back from missing that fourth down conversion from shotgun formation to drive - excellent drives one of 90 yards and that drive to take the lead you are right before the game when you said this team is together regardless of what the press the media the fans say no clicks they're here to prove that they could play football about the last six minutes they have it's been something but there's still a long way to go two minutes and 22 seconds left to play and you'll recall that the last Chiefs score was a 52-yard field goal by Nick they look to get in position for another try players in this game in Kansas City [Music] the snap seemed to be good but gym model puddin and the cheese came away from a beautiful without points since then bill Kenny has held the ball Bower he's made two that is the difference [Applause] on the sidelines after catching the time touchdown the extra point with the Giants and hit by one well took way first in ten and he throws and Marshall comes down with the ball takes hellacious hits but he didn't give it up comes down with a ball at the 40 and we're down to two minutes 18 yards and a first down on these Kansas City receivers have had a whale of a game between the two of them Carson and Marshall going up stretching their bodies out giving their bodies to the football team to make those pitches you can't say it up for we're heading towards a fantastic finish and your pounds another one of those fantastic finishes team man's kicker man he's doing some thinking now the Chiefs trailing by one with two minutes to play [Applause] with their storied tradition of great defense in their championship years the defense on the field now and they've got to stop KC from getting in field goal range first in Denver bill [Applause] they all say in unison Don Pete Shawn now at safety number 44 bill courier off he banged his knee on the last Drive and now Barry Williams comes in comes in and replacement watch this zone coverage [Music] this is running right up the hash mark you can see Pete Shaw just to the inside they're almost to make the tackle but wow that went that strangely reminiscent of a play I believe I saw Saturday was it Saturday afternoon when Boston College played Miami went right through defenders hand and you might be seen that no years to come without play ever saw kid named Gerard Palin makes the catch I was on Friday evening Cincinnati wins beating Atlanta 35 to 14 the more the Falcons lose the more votes a confidence the coach gets in pursuit situation be a good place to work right now we pause for station identification this is the NBC television network this is w NBC TV New York we're a giant Stadium in the Meadowlands of New Jersey Washington Redskins are barreling over Buffalo they'll go into a first-place tie with Dallas so the Giants must hold on to win this game to regain a sheriff first to the NFC East it's second and 10 for Kansas City the Chiefs trail by one 153 to play the Ellis brown sheeps heaven Kansas City gunner [Applause] [Music] this is where that weightlifting pays off if you get away from it they'll give it to you dragon players up mark aids comes out with it he's standing at the 40-yard line the right 40 [Applause] you sure Trump they went to footballs out there that looked like the hidden ball trick look you're known situations done nobody knows whose ball it is it's without question of fumble but once you get a big pile up there it's the guy with the best hand strength that can tear it away and then marcaine suddenly just comes out of it you seem right they're going in looks like he gets it away from 77 you see it right underneath his arm hold on big play he's being victimised today he may have made up for it with that one he's been getting beaten by Carlos Carson is we're down to 143 to play the I answer looked to run that clock now markers are down as big art still left early we'll see if he's drawn offsides defense delivers for the Giants and has always been the history of this team and their best seasons you know the thing about the Giants though the pressure doesn't diminish it continues to the last three games of the season this I would say is encroachment in big letters if they're going to encroach that's how to do it sir nice down for sins now first and 5 although looking to run the clock you'll probably give it the carpenter who takes it to the 40-yard line Gary Blanton on the tackle again for Kansas City if the Chiefs go to a timeout they do Giants in a unique situation the Giants play away next week you know where where they play away on the other side of the field against the New York Jets that's an advantage for the New York Giants but I repeat the pressure continues they must continue winning carpenters run for 72 yards on 16 carries boy the pressure gets a 25% less though if you win today that's true you get by the big one but division opponent st. Louis New Orleans here once again you grow up in a hurry when you play football games like that at the end the season under pressure [Applause] NFC East playoff picture updated this is an assumption though that the Giants came out of this game if they do that so it'll be San Francisco Chicago is going to win the NFC Central Dallas Washington and the Giants all standing tall in the NFC East the Giants 137 away from a win and the Chiefs F to the football on second and four carpenter gets four new downs for the Giants [Applause] last week jazz beat st. Louis 16 to 10 it was called an ugly victory LT Lawrence Taylor said I hope they're all ugly if they come out the same way see what's remade well again I'd still draft him to have him around my locker room he's such a winner [Applause] the game in the Giants trying to hole 13 in the fourth quarter they rallied for two touchdowns in two extra points the question at the top of this program Don was will the Giants be able to handle the pressure I think Rob carpenter should be given a big bit of credit for his ability to run the thing also catch it and seams in the second half was an entirely different quarterback and he did respond to the pressure and so did the rest of the Giants Bill Simms going to get some advice now called hand off to your fullback if it's it out of the way yes Tampa Bay beats the Rams or the Rams beat Tampa Bay on the Dickerson touchdown run so the Rams go to eight and five additional pressure look at all those people out eight and five NFL 84 is coming up after the game and they'll tell you the whole story and how it happened today with the pictures as Rob carpenter has rushed for 81 yards and caught four passes for 19 more money yards for the Giants 100 in total two touchdowns 121 to go glad you could be with us on NBC Sports at the Meadowlands in New Jersey as the Chiefs out of timeouts running the ball right at them crucial think now is when the officials start that 30-second clock again let's see what happens they may end up this last down on fourth down the last play on fourth down the executive producer of NBC Sports is Michael Weissman the coordinating producer of NBC football is Ted Nicholson today's game was produced by David Neal John Gonzalez technical director skip fresh associate director steve rosen and we thank them all and our NBC statistician joe Costanza our spotters Patrick Walsh and Tom Fricke with time on the payroll to help ease the pain Glenn Welsh and Paul Worth are also helping in the booth as the clock ticks down in the Giants when seemingly they were beaten rally back they go to first place company at the top though [Applause] Kansas City Chiefs complaining that they stripped carpenter of the football and should have it about 10 seconds ran off the clock but officials said no progress will stop Giants maintain position clock starts they do not have to run a flood but a you have to salute bill Kenny in the Chiefs also as they go off the layout picture they're hurt [Applause] contender everything in Morin has certainly proved the mettle of the Giants bigger wins this season but none more impressive when the heat was on Bill Parcells and his Giants behind the right half of Phil Simms rally for two fourth-quarter touchdowns to come back and win the game they had a win but Giants 28 Kansas City
