Louis Cardinal and the one thing about Palmer he has been throwing well he showed good velocity but at the very offset he got Morgan on a high fastball he got a strikeout he got faster on a tiebreaking pitch he tried to hold up he has been up and now he got the high curveball to Lozinski I just said caught it off of him and he walks Garvey on high fastball but he is up he had two quick strikes on Lozinski throwing the fastball and he switched James to speeding through the curve and it cost that Simmons his fifth all-star appearance the catcher tough man at the plate infield is up the hi Johnny Bench was voted by the fans as the starting catcher he has had back trouble for better than a month I have a telegram for Johnny Bench that says give my thanks to all my fans who voted for me I deeply regret not being able to perform is their selection to the National League all-star standards as a result I hope the short rest will be a stepping stone for a healthy and productive second half the season that pictures fouled away and must become worthy of their recognition sign your friend Johnny Baker he's got a lot of plans and so does this fellow at the plate Ted Simmons I think maybe the most under publicized exceptional hitter in baseball and he stood up before us yesterday and he said I appreciate what Johnny Bench is and what he's meant to the game but I believe I deserve to be here this year and on the record he's right you saw that little note at the bottom he's the first st. much with his breaking pitch he has been hurt a couple of times he's got it up he's been throwing mainly fastball except for the Toutle ism there's the strike what a cute kid that's Rick Monday's little boy at that age when the teeth go and it becomes a source of pride to show the vacant space at that age one in one to bun day this is one of Palmer's great strengths because Jim when he's throwing well and he can pitch up and that ball just takes off on you and for any hitter they'll tell you it is just awful hard to lay off of that high fastball make it one in two on Monday LarryBoy is on deck number five he took a little bit off the curveball and Monday just spoiling at this put very well get a hitter for lighter blue Tom Lasorda decides he's got opportunity to get something
