how long has it been four or five years yeah i think it's been five when we did holly training we did a shout out um just on twitter saying we needed some clean rust free beds for trucks and chris here reached out and said i got one so we went over and checked it out and then you said hey you want to check out my aunt's car she's got a 70 charger stuck in a barn and it was late at night it was dark we came over we looked at it it was a pretty cool car and then here we are five years later i said you know what we got to get that charger going it hasn't moved since has it no you know what what better way than to ask dylan mr mopar himself to come down and check out this 70 charger we're gonna get it running uh do some brakes on it change the fuel system on it hopefully we can fire it up for the first how long has it been sitting twenty years that i know what bro long time no one's getting more and more excited in the garage for 20 years best weekend i've had a long time [Music] yeah look at that this is awesome [Laughter] my grandfather bought it for his mother brand new and my mom learned to drive in it um she drove it to her first job and everything and my grandfather has since passed away and we have acquired it it's got a respray yeah yeah and that was kind of a backyard yeah i mean that's unfortunate i like the color though it wasn't terrible it looked pretty good but it just ever since then it's at four four to car all numbers matching no i mean it's all numbers i mean it's not a 101 ordered right yeah yeah the only one with the yeah well that's what's cool about chargers it doesn't matter if it's a slant six or a hemi car people are gonna want it chargers are chargers or chargers and that's what's great about it we gotta attack this thing with some sort of plan uh we got rims tires brakes fuel system full ignition uh redo i don't think there's any point in like even trying to whatever i think just change the points condenser all that stuff spark plugs wires but first things first are the brakes seized i don't think so we pulled the hub off we couldn't get the drum all the way off we just we just took the nut off the spindle yeah yeah yeah okay but otherwise we just drag it around the yard a bit first right and break these drums free because i don't feel like beating on him with a hammer we got a nice bronco four-wheel drive just drive until they're like i've got i've got pro bars i've got hammers i'm ready all right let's go here let's get some of the stuff out of the way hey just pull it out of the garage right yeah see if it opens up and where's a good spot to work who's moving the toilet brand new so it's not dirty or anything i might just slide it over i went to pick it up and it's got a bit of a problem here i'll take the thing that's the dirty part this must have been like a heck of an accident whatever the story was on that i think we could probably just do this that's cement block nice [Music] oh wow you got bucket seat center console pretty good options for this car especially to be a 318 get the green interior this is like this color right here is the original and they painted every single mopar in the late 60s and early 70s this color just about my own charger was this color and i understand why he would want to repaint it because every i mean they did green on the outside green on the inside but those bucket seats look really nice that center console that's that's a hard part to come across especially when it's complete ac car everything that's not even bad no mice there's i've seen oh love that smell that's probably what he used to paint it yep that's it look at there we can touch it up we need to it's a bit empty oh wow all paperwork with it did you see that gtx on youtube instagram we found a barn five gtx with ten thousand cash under the seat on they're really upping their barn fine so we need to oh my goodness there's five dollars in here whoa a whole wallet dealing with cool canadian which is he says that to everybody that's why that's the same when you've been using it for years let's see if this fuel uh is good enough to start i don't know it'll go into it it moves into like reverse and i can't get up [Music] so you can push it again push it in and try that now it shouldn't be nothing to do with the key it is really that's it this is that really rare one of one that has a energy yes i bet you're wrong got it neutral i think that's neutral it might be dry but let's see oh okay so it's a 318 right you said pretty sure oh yeah i don't run like that i do have a brand new one for it just in case so a brand new brand new brand new two-barrel yup just like this one so we can get it to run on this one just to make sure it'll fire and then swap it over it's okay easy to do uh a better ground cable might i think something got hot let's be careful when we first started up and that's empty too that's that's a good sign though you might need a clutch fan at some point cause that's flipping in the wind this is pre-electronic ignition so that's good and bad i mean it's good because you don't have to fool with faulty boxes but i mean points are simple um one thing i probably would say is more than likely going to go bad would be this ballast resistor if we do have any issues as far as like getting fired that'd be the first thing we checked okay i found one at the napa sitting on the wall so i was like we might need to go ahead and buy that one thing we couldn't get is breakfast yeah you can get them rebuilt but we just didn't have enough time to source one but we're we think we can at least just you know make that one work until the time comes to to get one rebuilt for it so it's a pretty solid car though like oh absolutely so the the battery it must have been the battery acid it's very very dominant yeah that eats that out but everything else is pretty decent let's see if it has the oil in it yeah it's full a little gassy but we'll throw some uh t4 in there perfect let me check the transmission fluid see i didn't paint it underneath the hood good for him yeah you have a full thorough yeah it's good and red that's a really good sign we'll check it when we actually if we actually get it to run uh yeah i need to be careful what i say big f i don't think this one burnt off but this one definitely burned off we'll definitely replace that i just want to know why that happened and we want to make sure that that doesn't happen again absolutely can still points condenser or points ignition sorry with a condenser and if they're open meaning that if they're on a lobe about to open or they are open then they don't rest together or rot together or corrode together or whatever and then we might be okay i think we're on the lobe though how's the cap look cat looks yeah but probably good enough to make it run i've got all this brand new now for fun let's just throw it on okay see if we got spark throw battery in it rule king is where it's at levi and this is going to be his car when he turned 16. burgess dodge incorporated in terre haute where they bought it they bought it after my uh grandmother wrecked her other car but she wrecked her car and my dad found this one for so in 73 then my dad got it i think i drove it once when it was up in northern indiana and that was before my brother painted it the color it is now saying something's in the trunk i guess it's a big trunk you can keep lots of stuff in there oh yeah nice caps watch division yeah that's nice those are worth a bit i really like these charger emblems looks doesn't do as much good are these four keys or like vintage four keys i find that 10 grand yet so these were the voltage regulators back then already yep it looks like a brand new one it looks like a cummins from like 80 yeah they use those for years that's crazy yeah so that i mean the back side always melts on those but that one is i bet you that one's pretty empty probably the original voltage regulator if i had to guess it looked like it looked like they replaced the one that's the original wheel the spare tire you see the original color still on it that's a fuel tank filler neck grommet which i've bought one of these i've got so we have three right now see what's left on these at least uh at least all the studs are there so these are the right hand thread let me put a big r on it it should say left i don't wanna have three yellows on it awesome go get these turned yeah one of us will run these out we're cutting the fuel line here because the gas tank is they said they replaced it like 12 years ago but with gas nowadays it's just going to be terrible so we don't even want to chance it so just uh we're going to run an auxiliary line out to a fuel tank out here and use the mechanical pump if it doesn't work i've got a brand new one just in case so just to have good fresh clean gas but first we're going to check for spark before we even do anything with fuel we're going to spin it over watch the points as they open and close if there's a spark we know that we do have fire if not we'll just have to dig further that's kind of a boring way i'm just going to hold on to it yeah yellow you don't always see the spark but you definitely feel it every time yeah we're getting a spark oh yeah yeah pretty cheap if you can see that that's good i got the fuel hose cut it's gonna be a short video it's got 98 818 miles are we driving for a thousand 1200 miles it'll roll over and that will be a brand new car zero zero zero zero what you're telling me is i need to take it off the points are working but we don't know if the gap is actually properly adjusted to get a solid spark so rich has got a spark plug grounded up here i know we don't know so let's uh let's do points and condenser and everything on it is your screwdriver magnetic i hope so i'm going to hold this i got a wrench [Music] not too happy no but yeah so there's the new contact i'm glad you're doing this because i didn't feel like leaning over there no my back's been giving me trouble too i don't know why it's the curse of the tall people i know you're just kind of stuck with it yeah oh he's five foot two second i feel great i'm like you're not moving flipping 200 pounds around if we if we twist just if we breathe wrong it's always a problem i'm out for like a week just heads up [Laughter] uh can you get a socket on the alternator to turn the you can roll it you can actually roll the distributor by and you know because of the mechanical the weights the advance really so you'll be able to roll it we'll get it kind of close i'll bump the starter and then you can rotate it by hand screw that's the condenser screw just bump it so we get it on a lobe um [Music] touch more that's the highest point i'm actually pretty close that looks like 18 times to me yeah yeah yeah nobody's got feeler gauges dylan firing order 318 go one eight four three six five seven two ah they're all the same yeah that's my one yeah see that's where the four they they're like we're gonna do something totally different just mess up everybody's day i'm gonna do it totally opposite pontiac like they spin it backwards so that really messes you up the small blocks spin one direction and then on the big blocks the distributors in the front so it spins the opposite direction so you gotta remember which way you're supposed to go i don't know i couldn't tell you forgot learned an old trick for my dad hold them all up at the same time see which one's closest hey look at there that's our first spark plug wire one of eight i'm always replacing those they're still square i don't think they're old but they're definitely uh they're getting a little rich yeah my guess is probably a bad accelerator pump on that carburetor any kind of fuel pressure just decided hey blow right past the needle and seat and say you know what we're gonna give it all the fuel and just go for it i set the cap on because i was changing out spark plugs and i totally forgot to put the whole rotor on so we have been fighting the no spark issue all day long and it'd been me so here's a brand new one going on right now take a look at that gap what do you think i think it's 18 to 18 and a half thou it opens i mean how many thou do you think it is uh all of them pretty much a gift card is about the same width as what the gap of these points should be and rich said by his human eye feeler gauge he said this is about 18 so i want to trust him and hope for the best because the points right now the contacts are a little bit too wide and i'm afraid it might not be properly gapped right now but i'm gonna try and maneuver through here because i can see it better i'm trying to open this rotor just a smidge we can kind of sliver off the card if that helps yeah all right a little resistance i think i'm okay with that does it still stay open i think it's fine yeah it's definitely better because it was okay wide open who buys blue parts for a mopar i yeah that's my fault it hurts it really hurts to see that that's how you know it's new though this is all real we really did replace that yeah i guess eh i don't know if people are still wondering whether we set these things up or not try it [Music] should fight try it [Music] i don't think we're getting any spark to be honest with you no try it again chris just hold it for five [Music] all seconds you got the test light we could do it the right way and actually check with the test light but i'm going to do it the easy way hot wire everything oh yeah i can hear it that's clicking inside she's hot all right try and crank her now [Music] hold on you're a trick check for spark now see if it'll do anything sure just burn up the coil i hope not i don't think i did take a lot more to burn it up than that yeah uh try it again chris just crank it over see what happens [Music] got nothing make sure that the points are opening and closing make sure we got power there it's it's rubbing it's getting contact okay so put that uh the brake booster back in so it's got to have 12 volts and the crank in the run position because that all comes off the ballast right so i verified it does have 12 volts in the run position on the hot side but i didn't in the crank position even though i hot wired it though so it should have at least hit but let me check the the coil again while you crank on it and just see i'm gonna put the spark plug on here and i'll kind of verify it like it should spark like crazy and it's gonna hurt unless i got a good ground here tell you what i'll tell you if it's grounded or not that's good i'm not going to get shot go ahead there's no spark coming out of that i think it's the shot coil then yeah all right that was one thing i didn't get that's the one thing we said would be a problem is there key switches light bulbs falcon this is falcon stuff floor mats factory floor mats there's one of the turn signals so i guess the trunk four was bad at one point yeah they did replace oh that's too bad is this a refrigerator i think it had something some kind of appliances yeah wow gas water heater we found the money bag this is the money bag these are the high suits that they use to um rob the spanish bank so there's definitely there's definitely cash in there obviously yeah we didn't find money but we found out how to get money and we have all the supplies now okay do we need a coil i i think straight let's grab a clip all right i haven't said it yet this is awesome is it like fancier than others with more gauges or less gauges or what i mean it is an air car so that's a nice option but no it's not like a special edition what they had as an option was what's called a tick tock tack it was a clock with a tack built inside of it so pretty cool 150 miles per hour speedometer so you're doing that with a 318 you were brave any kind of lights come on see any i hit the park lights i feel in the front waiting for those headlight bezels to flip up anything oh oh the lights are on behind it but the motor both parking brake parking lights on the outside are on i bet none even the reverse lights work oh that looks sick it was awesome okay turn signals and your license plate yeah you get left you got right nice i'm going to take this home with me at some point i have to push a little bit but this car is road legal oh okay that's closed oh no wait it just doesn't want to open all the way it's just a little tight yeah so where's the jamming open it do it again so it's actually twisting this butter i think it's so hot is that like so hot is this light so hot can you disconnect the rod and just see if it's binding on something i don't know i'll be honest with you i've never messed up it looks like it just pops in right this one's moving fine yeah oh here we go yeah i don't know what i did but i did something basically we're just trying to shove this plastic piece out of the way it's already broken and we could probably just break the rest of it off it's not our car and and dylan it never will be so just get that thought out of your mind we're just doing a nice thing for this family and that's that was what a quitter would say it's hitting the top now that's a screw i think i can take that up you got a stubby phillips one shot i got it okay here i'll push down on slightly new again she's pretty brittle one of these stations are going to come in come on get some oh got some bruce springsteen going got a little elvis on here i thought i heard a voice oh dylan you gotta touch the antenna you gotta be the rabbit here [Music] i don't think the blower works [Music] the blower fan doesn't work and the uh radio doesn't work that's a bit yeah and we're gonna leave that alone did you see how well this window rolled up and down yeah that's very important you know what my charger has power windows from the factory and they work really except i was driving down the road on power tour because you know you can use the polarity you switch it to make sure like to go up or down i was driving down the road down the interstate literally it'd start to rain i'd switch the polarity hit the alligator clip on one wire and then run the power probe it's in 12 volts roll the window up while i'm driving with my knees doing like this motion i had a cigarette lighter that i wired in it was yeah power tool was bad yeah it was rough yeah then it get hot in there switch the wires over real quick 12 volts to it roll it back down it wasn't quite ready yet no no no no no is it now though it's beautiful now all right since then yeah it's been if you want to sell it let me know i'll buy it you know what no i'm good [Music] no here let me you got vice grips keep an awesome i think she's gonna go yes what do you wanna do now i say oil change because i think it's going to go if you want to do oil change fuel pump i'll work top side get carburetor on and filter perfect let's do it all right so this is the high quality ebay carburetor that i've bought many times and put on quite a few vehicles but it's pretty much a direct replacement for a carter two barrel for these uh old mopars it's easier than rebuilding the carb it's i mean it's like 30 bucks for a rebuild kit and this was maybe 75 so for a little extra money you can have a brand new carburetor with everything new i've used them multiple times runs great if you have everything set up properly we know that it runs so we're just going to go ahead and throw this brand new and take out any guesswork from any factors so let me get the throttle blade set up properly and i'll do the mix screws as well well that one's the original yeah so that's going in the trunk we could rebuild it but it's just like we're also in a time crunch you got the craftsman wrenches too 19 a what a 19. just slid right off they did they didn't even try to fight me at all that was impressive typically you end up running one off and next thing you know you're fighting things you're coming with me a little comparison of the two i mean it's basically an identical copy of the original same height and everything oh yeah really handy not not expensive at all it's well worth the money to throw one of these on there so put a little vaseline on this gasket just for a little bit of a precaution uh what it does it'll keep it from sticking you can even use chapstick too if you want to but if we ever had to pull this carburetor back off and we rip this gasket you know not fun having to go find a new one so if we can go ahead have a little safety measure in here keep it from sticking we'll be good to go you want to grab the filter there's a new filter in there yep it looks kind of weird it starts to clean brand new parts and is this in your way nope nope they're all good there we go should have new clamps in it if you want to use them watch it run worse [Laughter] look here how you're supposed to unlock the car if it's cold literally take a match and just light it is that right though it says park your car in a well-lighted area i'm not a grammar expert but i've always thought it was lit but check this out too they wrote down the firing order you've got a little diagram a good thing that we replaced this [Laughter] it would have blow up for sure this t4 is a perfect fit you guys know i love my shell and i'm just pre-filling the filter as best as i can and spill a little bit but i always like having my filters full um that way nothing started to boil especially because it doesn't never actually ran yet did you notice if the oil pressure was coming up the one when you were cranking i mean it started right away for me but i wasn't paying attention but when you were cranking and cranking and nothing happened i didn't look honestly whenever it ran you were in the car so i didn't pay attention but that canadian sarcasm listen i'm from tennessee he expects so much out i don't know i don't know tell me which way to go go in inward towards the pan you took the drink out already yeah okay oh you only dream of that stuff dylan what are you dreaming about not spelling oil because cause you use the right funnel yeah and no shaky hands or not can you check if i put the drain plug in you really do make a mess everywhere you go don't you yeah i do let's keep the dust down there all right see if it'll idle [Music] right off the boat pretty good yeah okay we're gonna change the fuel pump we don't want any of the diaphragm if the diaphragm is cracked or anything to uh um go through our brand new sparkling carburetor so we'll change the fuel pump see if we can drive it out of the garage if it moves goes forward or back and we have a chance of driving it down the road we'll get all the brakes done we've got a new fuel tank for it once we know that it'll start and stop on its own i think we checked all the lights and everything else works then uh take it down the road a couple burners wait till we get down the road and do that we got some new rooms and tires we got belts hoses for it we'll do a coolant flush on it too yet and then uh we'll go from there so that lines out to do you think i should pull the top plate off and check the float we should it's going to bother me if i don't so i took the top plate of the carburetor off because i was always a little bit worried about these floats and typically whenever i put one of these on the floats are always adjusted a little bit too high and they were what would have happened these floats would have risen up hit the bottom of this top plate and caused the carburetor to basically flood itself because it wouldn't shut the kneeling seat so i bent the tab got the floats sitting pretty much level and now whenever this the bowl fills up the floats will stop the needle and seat and keep too much fuel from going in so now i'm just gonna put everything back together maybe you should try and find a carburetor for seven to five bucks that's the problem yeah that's the problem i didn't spend enough money for once are you a fan i am i'm left-handed too i just replaced the fuel pump which is just a lever type off the camshaft and uh dylan's going to get rid of that water jug unfortunately we can't save that we're going to see if we can move it forward and back if the transmission is okay gatorade bottle will be finished the gatorade bottles you remember me talking about how they needed these fancy lids for people who can't use it i'm talking about myself it takes a lot to be humble yeah look at the orange gatorade settling at the bottom yeah that's that's a little fuel if we don't put up right to the very bottom so uh spin it over and i'll make sure the accelerator pump's working okay [Music] nothing yet try it again [Music] still nothing i can just crank it a little bit [Music] there we go now we have accelerator pump try it now it's choked they i don't think that one is 10 times hotter than all the other ones check the firing orders uh they that's not to say that those plugs were on the right way when we we just copied them we didn't write anything yeah let me let me check the firewall yeah three this one should be going to three is it yep yeah that's two yeah they're all right crap why does it run like a bag well it's thirsty because it like ran to the bottom of the condom yeah well if we do any lower we're gonna suck up the gatorade in that yellow piece i got no breaks whatsoever okay i'll go back here i'm gonna catch it i've got my time [Music] look at that oh it moved out under its own power that tire does not look good no i don't think it's going to make it see it yeah i don't see any nothing obvious pull the other one too that one's got nothing in the way how tight [Music] we're probably gonna get oil everywhere yeah it's all hydraulic but they're getting a little yeah but this side was dry before like that side has a lot more oil than this side does so like that the one on the end isn't spinning there it goes [Music] we're going to run out of guys i just want to know what that rattle is i mean it just could be a piece of trash or something because this thing hasn't ran in a while and had actual good oil run through it so is not fired so this infrared is nice for making sure that it's running on all cylinders so it's already cooling down but these were the front three were at 280 and the back was at 180. you can tell it's still colder so it's not firing so we pulled the spark plug out we've got a spark and compression there it was blowing on us you could hear that so i don't know what's going on try it again maybe it's weird i don't know i'm pulling the rocker arm assembly off because it's so noisy it's really concerning me with uh all the valve train so i'm gonna pull it over or pull it off flip it over and just see what exactly is going on ready just full throttle [Music] it's got one about 150. well it's steady at 130. that's fine yeah that's great that should light that should light and it's not lighting so is it do we have two wires backwards i can recheck it again let's check it again pull the plug while it's running let's see if it changes anything like diesels we just crack the injector and then make sure that the rpm drops right yeah laid everything to diesels that's what i know one right here so let's see let's make sure that it's rocking and that the rotor is pointing at it let's just start start the very basics where is there timing mark on it this is definitely closed this is not it should be on number one compression right then make sure that the rotor is pointing at number one and then go from there hold on come on a little more oop back up look come back towards me just a smidge right there back up yeah that is that's tdc okay so those are both slot right yeah so let's pull the cap make sure that the rotor is pointing at number one no it's not it's weighty out how about that we copied what was on there yeah i just went by number one that i already i know so they just changed the the cap and road there's 180 out and it's 180 out and it's running like a bag because of that [Laughter] well let's redo this [Laughter] [Music] okay number one is pointed towards the firewall how did it run it was just off enough for you this is number eight the number four the number three and then six five and then seven and number two i've never ever ever had one run 180 out it'll always backfire through the carb it'll hit but it just pops you know shoot right back out it's never i mean it wasn't 180 it was just like just on the edge uh you got a timing line that has to fix it that's ridiculous never in my life let me make sure we started quicker before trying to get it going to spin it over [Music] it's not going to go it would have it would have done something fuel oh really all right go for it we forgot to put that wire back on the coil see you fixed the problem get excited and you lose your train of thought all right okay all right try her now well you flooded it now right [Music] something flew out of there let's verify tdc by pulling the spark plug let's do that let's do get it up on the compression i don't see anything no go see it coming up yeah it's still coming up still going still going oh he was at the bottom wasn't it oh right there we need intake to open come back up and then go down we're on the wrong stroke now if i keep going the intake's gonna open [Music] yeah intake open so i gotta go 360. and take closes so now piston should be at the bottom roughly now it should be coming up where's my timing mark right there it's about that's pretty much it so it's right there and then your mark is right there it's pretty close yeah okay so now rotors should be pointing at the very back yeah it's not that's pointing at the front right so we put it 180 out it was it was right the first time okay which isn't solvent so let's change the wires again so that it's pointing straight straight in here this is number it's not to say that it wasn't one off alright this is one i want to grab the climbing light maybe the timing's out it didn't rest before it is now yeah fly over here it's quieter yeah i can still hear it i think it's over there now hold on [Music] grab some rubber handles i still think we should pull spark plugs one at a time and see how much where's it starts running it just tingles a little bit he forgets that i've done this before i mean i've done this a thousand times i've been shocked before i know it doesn't feel great yeah but you can't let go you got to pull it and push it back on and go from one cylinder to the next we have no accelerator pump is that it is the fuel line in the gas yeah yeah hope we didn't kill our pump somehow yeah i don't know how we could have but just drown it all right go for it again [Music] that sounds good i don't think he's getting any accelerator pump or anything like i don't but now the engine sounds fine what did we do where's the i don't know what happened something weird is going on here well that's okay maybe it's just waking up but i don't know 168. so much now it sounds much better um it no accelerator pump so it's kind of falling on its face when you step on it but um i just don't know if it's not knocking near as bad as it was i don't know if our pump is actually picking up anything because the bowl isn't filling up but i mean it was before it wasn't like we had an accelerator pump before but now it's gone so i don't know if i could run it to like an actual jug so that we know we have more fuel instead of just a little gatorade bottle i just wonder if it's i don't know if it's not picking up enough fuel or something i vented it properly like maybe it swelled a little bit if it's stuck in the bottom of it let's do it just throw the hose on i'm at a loss that's that was weird something i don't know what the heck happened there did was the lifter just collapsed not getting oil pressure every single rocker had well i mean it oils through the rocker shaft so i mean it could have been a lifter not pumping up we went in circles but we fixed it the pvc valve was um his toast so that was a big vacuum leak which isn't great you want to go all the way close yeah seat it and then back out two turns okay pvc did you say positive crankcase ventilation not the pcv pvc oh we're gonna get a whole lot of comments oh god he's such an idiot he probably does his own plumbing too yeah i do and that's why i get them mixed up sometimes i'm sorry [Laughter] okay so that's seated back it out two yeah so that's half one that's half and there's the other half okay all right try again [Music] we got we got something going on like still i think i think it's a fuel delivery problem okay [Music] yeah we fixed this charger [Music] it's it's one of those fancy units with the self-learning [Music] [Music] it just needed a good old beat down maybe just like get it running and do a burnout instantly and then get it hot open up the pores get the oil flowing through the lifters and away you go but i don't understand why it wasn't firing on that back cylinder it is now but a nap [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] all right so today we dragged the car out of a it's hiding spot for the last 20 years got it running it actually runs really good after fighting with us for a bit i don't know what was going on there we don't know it was we were already on marketplace looking for another engine and then we're like okay a little bit longer and i don't know what happened but it pairs pretty good so um that's it for us on today's video here but there is a video out that's live right now on dylan these guys to where they can use their car once again after all these decades so we're going to go through the brakes we're going to go through the fuel system do a couple odds and ends and really get
