alright guys which suit behind is in 1964 Fairlane 500 this car hasn't seen the road in 24 years yes it's right 24 it was last seen cruising the backroads of Georgia in 1995 it's time to get this original paint latina beauty back on the road and cruising once again stay tuned for this revival hope you enjoy [Music] all right so here's the first look under the 1964 Fairlane 500 hood it's got a rebuilt 289 long block Edelbrock Performer intake Holley four-barrel carb it's also got a few original parts as you can see it's got the original generator it's a power steering power brakes car which is nice our first task is obviously to see if we got fuel spark and we're gonna see if we can get this old girl fire it up [Music] all right so we're ready to turn over the 64 Fairlane just hooked up the battery we've got a spare battery over there and we got the battery charger over here hooked up dad's over there with these quick start and the fuel so we're gonna see if we even got any the mustard container and see if we can even get this thing turned over if not I'm gonna let it charge for a few hours and give another shot well we got lights on the interior so that's a good side let's get these keys over here wasn't something up about this neutral safety switch risky all right we've got lights ready all right so as we expected the battery was dead so what we're gonna do is we're gonna charge the battery that's in the car or just disconnecting it right now and then also charge the battery out of the Mustang so we're just disconnecting the negative and positive terminals on the battery and notice that the positive ground that our positive cable that goes to your solenoid was extremely close to grounding or arcing on the body see there it was like this just a matter of the insulation wear it out and then you'd have an a fire on hand so this would start arcing we're gonna tweak that I'm gonna turn it right around it those are cute gloves you got thank you so yeah I'm just gonna do that just so let's switch it around on the opposite side hopefully with a little bit of warmth this cable will find a new direction a new direction relaxing itself so kind of take this up to the shop yep charge it safely all right so brought both batteries up now I'm just gonna be checking for the voltage just see what we had 10.26 that's the battery out of the Fairlane I switch these around trying to do this with one hand and the battery of the Mustang 12.5 7 so going to charge the Fairlane 1 first and then just do a little trickle charge on the Mustang 1 alright so I got the charge battery in also cleaned the inside of the cables and the post terminals with the battery cleaner I guess you would call it we're also gonna hook up the spare battery just as another extra power source also had the other battery hooked up or battery charger hooked up so we're gonna give this a shot one more time and see if it'll fire yep dad's gonna give it a crank go for it go for it I think it's neutral alright we're good we're good alright dad's just filling up the fuel bowls with our good old trusted mustard container fuel bowls are filled okay all right so disconnecting the fuel pump to fuel the line rubber hose and as you can see due to sorry due to old age it's deteriorating so we're gonna replace that and we're gonna go straight to a gas container just for now got the new fuel line hooked up dad's just pouring gas from one container into the other and we'll be ready to rock all right so we bumped the engine over to get a timing mark that's at six degrees so we'll be looking for that on our timing mark ready well timing lights working yeah under joke but still beside wire I mean look at this stuff tricking looks like something that a freakin china do these wires like honest to god they're they're almost like me about a rigid plastic okay let's get this thing fired up first before we can Eve trying to check the time II have Excel the reader ready hey you want it open okay that's one and a half mom and operated well the marker lights work your best interest to just pull it off swap that out I'm kind of maybe see if you can just reach reach work that anything vacuum leaks all right so we're back here at the Mustang I'm actually just gonna take the carb off and put it on the Fairlane we know that this carb it works well the Fairlane actually has a high idle and before we go any further or dive any deeper into it I just want to see if by putting this carburetor on the Fairlane if that high idle will stop so I'm just gonna quickly zip this one off zip the one off the Fairlane and do a switch and see what happens alright so got the carburetor off the 65 Mustang and now I'm gonna attack the what looks like a rebuilt ollie but high high revving so we're gonna see if this just solves the problem if not then we're gonna have to dive into something else also I noticed usually on a carburetor there's studs with nuts this one has bolts going straight into the intake interesting [Music] all right got the 65 Mustang carburetor on the 64 Fairlane I just have to tighten the clamp for the fuel line from the fuel pump and we should be good to go all right dad went off to work so it's just me here let's give this a shot see if it works should be should be interesting trying to do this alone again [Music] we're pretty much on the mark they're just chugging this thing along the last six degrees all right so that's pretty good so we set it to 6 degrees I've put the other carb on and it's running much better than what it was with the the other carburetor so I'm gonna take that one and bring it up to the shop and see what I can diagnose now this car business by no means rebuilt but I just simply turned a few screws on the idle mixtures and you can see it's right on the money with the timing mark ok the timing mark is right there and there's the timing mark on the harmonic balancer will it stay alive no all right so anyways we got it running which is most important I'm gonna bring that carb up like I said and pull it apart give it a good clean and throw it back on see if it solves any problems other than that oh he got it going I'm what was it nineteen years I don't know it's another one for the road like I said it's a power steering power brakes original generator car so once we get this out in the sunlight come springtime it's gonna be a great cruiser alright guys so we got the 64 Fairlane up and running it's not running perfect but it is running and that's all that matters at this time I went out and I bought a few of these high-grade carburetor rebuild kits they are for the 4150 and 4160 holley carburetors so our next line of attack is to get the carb that we took off of the Fairlane and give it a quick rebuild slap it back on the car and hopefully it runs in tip-top shape no reason why it shouldn't after that we have to address the shifter linkage up in the tree so we're no longer guessing if it's in neutral or Park also make sure to check out Dillon McCool junkyard digs and Thunderhead 289 for more awesome content the links to their pages is in the description below if you haven't already
