hey guys what's up I got a special guest didn't stop by because I'm a slacker apparently and he's gonna help me get this car running this car hasn't been started in over 40 years 45 years it was last registered in was 74 last registered in 1974 it's been sitting for a long time and if you look at the engine it's pretty apparent how long it's been sitting I mean look at the dirt built up it might not start we don't know yet but we're pulling out the distributor we're pulling out the carb we got a replacement distributor a replacement carb and cable this is kind of just like let's see if we can get it running quick and make it work so get ready for a bug Jam get it ready for bug jam yeah believe it or not I bought my 67 Ghia it's been over two years now and I've never actually had my own Volkswagen to drive yet so hopefully this is this one's gonna get up and running soon I'm gonna order the brake components for it in the next few days and put all new brakes on it and get it up and running yeah I just put that car back on there to see what it looked like but it looked like the previous owner tried to clean the carb and maybe did some other crap I don't know what that guy was thinking did you see how old that fuel filter was that thing so there's a distributor filthy the fuel filter I mean it's just a mess get me the other card all right and bye-bye all right here's the new carb it's a pretty sweet Sollux what does this a thirty thirty thirty-one yeah it's a beautiful car beautiful so guys if you found a car like this been sitting for ten twenty thirty forty years and you wanted to try to get it up and running quick you know instead of rebuilding the carb you could go ahead and buy a new carb you can buy these for as little as 100 bucks depending on the model I spent a little more on this one because it's a nice sollux unit but you know the distributor was like fifty bucks the carb 100 blocks you could you could get up and running for a couple hundred dollars with new spark plugs coil and you know as long as there's nothing else major wrong with the car you could get it going hopefully that's the case with this one we don't know yet we're gonna find out so hang on hope this engine is good those wires look pretty cruddy did you already pull this beautiful spark plugs out look at how nice that looks way too nice for that engine yeah we're gonna start getting back your leaks it's not gonna seal properly right there it goes there we go mm-hmm that'll clean up nicely let me hit this a little bit with the yeah I'm good to pull this out pull it out quick wait there you go coming they've been in there a long time yeah that looks pretty original that looks like the ones that came out of rusty yeah yeah one of Rusty's was really tight - you need a shorter extension was this fire retardant starboard starboard yeah the table or another no sorry sorry no they're not no I thought that's why they put them in there do that oh man look at the frickin carbon on there Wow oh crap can you see it pretty bad how is that even running oh this one's nice yeah guys number 3 the one that I saw and that's cuz I think it's the one that gets my hottest right look too bad compared to the last one where are you tiny or in diluting their tiny that's tight yeah that's tight yeah right your tiny bits not before that's why I have to longer yeah you need that they give you a little more leverage cutting new thread yeah it's working WD in there you need to what do you put the tooth stuff put the other oh yeah I mean I can do it the old-fashioned way I don't have your 15 you don't put the studs Oh small patties like a doctor they have something inside them when they cross I don't have anything oh yeah your stomach [Applause] [Music] ground wire looks like they were trying to do the dig is how you two dated because the battery tree is kind of rusty yeah that's why we're at Ace Hardware next to our house because everything is from the it's a rented a hot weather table it's like it's curb yeah like a 90-degree angle so you can get to the next section better yeah I'm not who's in the behind yeah it's like that's what I was saying it's like how can we get this up and running for the least amount you know of time and money what is the minimal amount of money and time we have to put into this yeah I should be able to get the complete break set for like I don't know 400 dollars or so right I'll run back you know depending on the brain bandwidth yeah things are happening quick it's like NASCAR heats up the choke yeah we need to change it later but it was only for two fired up the engine yeah I can yeah get a new one hi I made them at the shop how you do yeah okay cool my own rice got all the Cheerios to get them in place so awesome so now let's get the battery yeah and there's a line to go from your so here yep yeah cuz I got to clean the tank yeah all right probably have to replace the lines did you take the oh yeah take the sending unit just to see how it is yeah oh that thing now you stick it back in what do you do - we use a Loctite or something changing yeah it's this is gonna really you know in quotes a daily driver you know I'm gonna use this more right so rather to pull out something new there so we're just putting neck and send back to to get it restored yeah that'd be cool cuz that's a pure bird period correct yeah doesn't matter that this is loose right now that's just a little no thank you yeah you feel coming out then we shut it up I got the fire extinguisher clip so then so we're just hooking this up temporarily to get why passing my gas tank I passed the gas tank and all the old fuel lines go right to the tank and then blow mine to the carb that's high-octane so she should hurt her real nasty all right guys first start in 45 years something like that was the 1974 yeah let's see we have power here though yeah yesterday yeah let me see the switch off time is lined up [Music] yeah is there is the car full of fuel by now yeah gonna be right guys spring wait okay try it again yeah I think one of the spar broke out all right take this one house [Music] well guys we tried for some reason we're not gettin spark'd so it's getting kind of late here Dennis had to run but man he came through here like a hurricane so anyway it was fun I got the carb to distributor to coil in there there's something going on there might be a bad ground or something we're not gettin spark'd so we're gonna mess around with it more in a couple days but uh I gotta clean up this mess so stay tuned to the next one we'll see what happens there's the old parts we'll keep those and maybe I'll send these off to uh vintage works I have Edie fall work on them get them cleaned up for me I'd be kind of cool to reused the original ones but man that was pretty exciting just hearing the turnover was pretty cool bye guys see T on the garage it's a couple days later we click and get the car started we think it's the capacitor let's see what happens stay tuned alright guys let's see if we can get this thing started apparently it hasn't been started in over 45 years if you look at it I think we've said before I mean you can tell just looking at the dirt and everything that's in here it's pretty nasty Dennis and I tried to get it running the other night and for some reason we couldn't get any spark so hopefully we can change out this capacitor and we're gonna get spark and this thing's gonna run and then we can move on to getting the brakes done so hang on let me change this capacitor and let's see what happens all right we're gonna need to remove the distributor in order to change that capacitor it looks like it's on the back side so hopefully I can do this without messing anything up so this is one of those cheap you know I think made in China capacitors distributors sorry got some dirt in there somehow that God anyway we need to loosen this nut back here I think it's a 15 millimeter and we can get to the capacitors on the backside I mean I might be able to reach it maybe I can get a shorty is that a flathead I might better get a shorty back there that way we don't have to remove the distributor let me try to die alright I got this little stubby screwdriver let's see if we can unscrew it I don't think we're gonna be able to is pretty tight back here no that's not gonna work all right let's see sizes that I think it's a big - thirteen I can't even get on he's in a weird spot let me show you what I'm trying to get through here it's pretty tight back in there but there's a there is a nut kind of hard to see back in there holding that distributor clamp on and you see it let's see there it is that's what we're trying to get to so stand by all right it's pretty tough to get to so I've got this swivel adapter with an extension on here let's see if we can get in there it's pretty tight I don't even know how Denis got that in there guess I wasn't paying attention I think that's how we did it right there [Music] all right let's see if we can pull this out without messing anything up I'll try to get a general idea of where it was hopefully ill slip back in there alright guys here is the capacitor that we think is bad and then here is the replacement so hopefully this works apparently these cheaper distributors have are known to come from the factory with bad capacitors so get what you pay for sometimes guys that's pretty tight this one's a lot softer this one's hard it's always something man great hi guys let me know if you see spark awesome yeah I think I think I saw spark that's a good thing all right guys I ended up cleaning up the old distributor clean the points put it back in because that new ones piece of junk and it looks like we're getting spark off of it I don't know I didn't just try it from the start I kind of just wanted to put new components on it you know a new carb new distributor new coil the carb and the coil are nice the distributor I got was a cheap Chinese piece of junk basically I'm one to keep things original and keep them stock and you know they just made things to last back then and now they don't so we've got spark we've got a new carburetor a new coil I got the old distributor back in there we've got new cables new spark plugs and we have spark so we should have ignition let's put that spark plug back in see if we can get fuel to the carb and get it going stand by alright guys let's see what happens alright let's put some fuel in the carb [Applause] it's getting a little bit my buddy Mike hooked me up with this pretty cool good old Mike go check out his channel all right that should get some fuel in the hole there let's try it again yeah all right guys hold on I'll get you a different angle here that's a pretty good angle maybe needs a little more fuel let's get some more fuel in here it's thirsty after 45 years you know Plus this is a new carb so it's good watch the head all right let's try it well it's possible the timing is off a little bit [Music] plenty of fuel I don't know if it would help to hook up the vacuum advanced or not timing might be off seemed like it wanted to start right from the start and then it or what [Music] where's top dead center it let's see yes awesome cool right give us some more fuel I got the wife to help me with turning the key let's see if we get this thing going alright go ahead baby all right hold on seems like it's not getting any fuel but there is fuel going in here all right try it again freaking helicopter all right try it again it sound like it was starting to go try it again just let go of it don't turn it back don't turn it back yeah just turn it and then it'll spring back right yeah all right right again all right go ahead [Music] okay let's go [Music] [Applause] [Music] you
