1960 Buick LeSabre Parked for 25 Years Let's get it running

so okay [Music] there it is so went and threw battery in it we're not going to turn it over yet until we put the little trans fluid down in the cylinders best we can tell it hasn't been started in about 25 years it's been sitting in the garage probably about that long so we have a dome light all right under dash lights oh under this no nice courtesy lights sweet nice that's awesome [Music] they work yeah those are probably cable operating just the blower motor maybe for the oh you want to see what we got for lights probably pull it out yep you got headlights we got tail lights step on the brake i got nothing oh yeah duh turn signals maybe nothing back here right oh yeah right turn signal nothing in the left nothing on the [Music] there it is a little more feminine i guess it's a two-tone oh oh wait turn the turn signal out again i want to get that sorry hold on so hot oil and gin i wonder what these two over here is oh probably maybe brights and your left turn signal uh different switches on the floor nope that's a little red dot in the middle okay yeah lights work that looks really cool like on the like the boxes on the brush uh and okay those are go your parking lights yeah just push the button in halfway yeah okay yeah yep you got both parking lights so with this and my galaxy the parking lots only come on with that but when you pull it out you have the headlights and the parking lots go off so like your marker lights only are on with your parking lights but also i just heard it like crackle you have to give it a minute for the tubes to warm up yeah 53 does but it's just so chromie space age and like the materials are right you know it's got a dash pad on it a little bit dash pads was just kind of cool oh dude windows work smooth holy crap oh my god see that was gm man even my 60 biscayne the wing windows work perfect galaxy not so much no instructions for airbag and seating your baby jeez all right in the trunk we have newspaper from may 2nd 1970 economical effect effective and something got some flour shine shoes and there is a fire extinguisher inflates tires and fights fires he plays tires and fights fire yep power pack 40-something vehicle on the advertisement yeah that's pretty awesome a few extra old parts in this episode of my classic tire we got the nylon firestone and this one oh this one's not a white wall oh yeah because this is the top of the rim ooh but it is a firestone 500 nice performance tire it's in fantastic shape dude there's not even like other than that kind of dry crack in the tread yeah this tires actually looks like it's in pretty dang good shape [Music] spray lubricant that's a good idea over the hinges yeah all those individual little pieces across their bigger little pieces and then emblem is kind of a floater yep yeah that's awesome so uh what do you want to start with today oh we need to park with pop spark plugs and she's dry oh okay oh yeah that bottom underneath is off so uh that's spark plugs or put stuff in cylinders do you have train fluid or something [Music] [Applause] this little fuel filter is an oddball it's a legit little filter in that little glass so it's not just like a water separator no i don't think so okay so what's that little electronic vacuum actuator gotcha [Music] [Music] don't pull them okay well so the loom on that side is front to back it's all in order i checked that already um this one probably it could be so if we just yeah so these are all in order according to i don't the that he actually kept so these museum getting up yeah when people start messing around that's that's awesome that it it's actually yep nothing on that they look pretty clean oh wow that was brand new all right well that's cool i mean i still put some stuff down the cylinders i almost feel like he did it he like he started something what somebody started something started kind of giving it a tune-up and then yeah just yeah these things look brand new yeah that's kind of old yep okay well cool do you run auto lights in the 53 or did you really that's what like a delco 54 i feel like is the part number on or with that fuel pump works nice on the boat i think i've got enough hose i could probably start up siphon with that longer one but yeah i think i want to use that fuel in the galaxy or nothing [Music] what size is it one inch okay nice nice and smooth okay it looks like uh four golf four zero wait a minute go ahead that's right again ford's four golf four zero what two nine two two five what do you got for a head casting over here that one is one one nine six nine one four so your one one nine six nine one four comes up between 59 and 66 is a 364 401 or 425. okay which is good with a two barrel stromberg i think it's a two barrel stromberg uh yeah i'd say leave the oil because the oil looks good filter should be fine at least to fire it up let it get warmed up and stuff and then after that if you want to change it yeah but uh i mean oil looks fantastic put some in i got some power steering fluid throw it in there sorry what what did you say get rocked get robbed so i don't know how you usually pull these nasty things off but i've learned to attempt to twist them [Music] yeah that one's still actually probably might need a socket oh there it goes i guess okay hurry up i'm just moving it yeah you didn't see it yeah what'd you say you have a set of tools at home that you've had like forever that you just used to crap out of uh my three-quarter drive socket set that my dad got me like when i first joined the military oh yeah yeah i use that for everything it's only three-quarter you know so three or three-quarter no sorry half-inch drive yeah it's a big husky set and uh yeah it works great so he's got our lug nuts and everything big alaska the first time head of the west 10 blazer i bought that from costco 100 bucks or whatever it was i mean everything i i put the sockets on impact go tap like not they're not even chipped or not there's nothing wrong i'm like how in the hell is this and no issues like i don't even think i've got pockets to do other like i never we just try to drain the radiator right well i think the radiator like you said i think the radiator is pretty much empty [Applause] oh yeah give her the gusher that's kind of green fish radiator hose ew it looks like gravel nice bit of rolls in there top one might have been salvageable bottom one that's weird a big calcium deposit yeah yeah some of the neck on that water pump there is missing definitely corroded out so i replace water pump yeah that sucker is stiff so what i want to do pull this off see how bad it's in this crossover tube yeah hopefully that's pretty clean i hope yeah pretty much all you're like there's a little aluminum housing in here thick piece come off the block yeah the water pump runs a little bit in there you got a fuel pump in there i'm trying to take off that hose crunchy yeah there goes that one's clean [Music] get in there [Music] got some good news looks like a brand new set of points in there oh okay those suckers are clean oh yeah so yeah you're gonna buy underside of the cap and look there's no marks on the contacts in the cap i think yeah those things are perfect somebody's probably in here um so let's put a battery in it and we'll hook it up and turn the key and spin the motor over we just spin it over by hand and see if it's sparking up there at the points let me turn the key on flights are on all right for sparkler oh you got your blower motor going oh you know what that was yeah that's because the connection was bad yeah so which lever is that that is the airflow airflow yeah it was pulled all the way down so it was open or what was moved oh yeah nice okay yeah put all that over just a little bit so that's what it works okay now i'm going to keep an eye on this points down here i can get focused on them and crank it over some open and closed but it's gonna spark [Music] it cranks um is it neutral or parked it's a neutral okay i heard it you did hear it all right we have a bad water pump and the water passages might be all clogged [Music] i guess water just keeps dripping out bump it over again let's see yep still going yeah okay are you seeing anything i might need to clean up those points a little bit too okay that's what's behind the water pump uh actually doesn't i stick my fingers in the ports and it only feels like it's just laying in the bottom so i don't think it's all the way through the block okay where's the pump ooh i was gonna say i wonder if we could save it but no the impellers actually welded itself to the housing yeah especially right here yeah that's welded in well okay water pumps doa but um we can still get this thing to turn over and probably fire up now that we have potential for spark yep yep nothing just second all right go ahead still nothing try one more time nothing okay try to with the new coil [Music] still nothing see if the uh coil's putting out power now okay go ahead still nothing okay we got nothing coming out of the coil okay new coil wire installed see if we can bring the lightning kion i know mine's good because it starts my car i do believe that screwdriver was made to become a spark checker all right [Applause] [Music] [Applause] still nothing all right once again see if coil has output all right switched over to the high performance mallory coil let's see if this one gives us some [Applause] spark still nothing okay small file and points actually hooked up correctly this time that's together that's open together open cool all right so they're actually working they're actually separated so there's a ground and a hot side hopefully i have it hooked up right okay so for some reason with the positive lead coming in the coil right there it shorts to ground i don't know why so we ran just we disconnected it ran a positive wire from the battery over to the coil let's see what we got okay go ahead and crank it [Music] yep and we have spark so with this technically you should run disconnect yeah cause that's even sparking um i don't know what's up with that wire we're gonna have to trace and figure out where that's short of that yeah somehow yeah the positive lead coming in is started to ground i say maybe in the future cut one of the wires off and see if that eliminates the ground and we'll see you know because there's two wires coming in one it's one or the other hell it might be both but all right we're gonna take a little bit of the yellow gas from the from the tank pour it in see what happens okay that should be enough to start a fire you ready yeah okay ignitions hold on okay ignition's hooked up go ahead and crank it try it again [Applause] i think the battery's about about dead okay try it [Applause] eleven and a half volts won't quite cut it oh you already started on that one now i gotta move the floor mat floor mat and everything else okay there it is wire's off let me put the nut back on it okay i don't want to lose it okay okay [Music] oh that's probably left over from what was in the line from before it's just sitting on top of the possibly blocked pickup okay let's see see what it looks like crusty it's a little crazy not horrible all right radiators and water pumps in gas tanks flushed ready to go we got gas in a new battery and we pretty sure we have ignition all right see what happens no brakes yet i'll keep an eye on the fuel filter and see if it starts pulling fuel let's put what do you wanna you wanna try and put some gas in the tank or in the carb or you just wanna crank it over first i'm gonna just try cranking it okay [Music] [Applause] okay it's not pulling fuel yet it'll probably take [Applause] nothing yet we're gonna put yeah yeah we can once again i'm pulling some old gas out of the tank this is pure gas no ethanol from the 90s all right all right go ahead give her a little dribble oh she'll light up hey your your filter's almost full now go ahead and try it again the lower filter let me scrap splash just a little bit all right go ahead try again wow it's even iceland nice [Music] yup filter's got fuel in it ain't smoking yeah just a scotch at first that's putting oil in it but upper filters working i'm surprised how good that carburetor runs just smoothing out longer it runs give her the onions [Music] sounds good yeah because it's definitely you can see where it gets pulled up over the axle yeah buster brake line fuel tanks leaking got a pinhole and radiators leaking no road trips today yeah payback well if it wasn't for a brake system a cooling system and a fuel system this thing runs like a champ yeah right here yeah it is literally a pinhole oh my god [Music] okay well the inside of the hose is dry so that's a plus yeah we just completely de-vapored all your fuel yeah how do you instantly make bad gas all right new brake lines ran putty gooped on the tank leaking the radiator so um all right the brakes don't seem to want to bleed so we're going to pop off the front wheel cylinders starting off by taking off these old tires these are glorious road mark pos i mean ps's today on my classic tire kelly springfield don't they make guns springfield yeah yep no i'm kidding kelly tires wow i was just complaining about kelly tires one of my most recent videos but these ones are old probably from the 70s and they're still holding there there's the recessed one-inch white wall beautiful great tread and then to top it off is these amazing aluminum brake drums that are finned good old buick man quality performance 100 percent pop these off get these wheel cylinders off and see if we can either rebuild them or have to replace them all right uh front right wheel cylinder taken off full of rusty sludge probably why i wouldn't uh bleed okay well here's a wheel cylinder there we go here's a wheel cylinder from the driver's side as you can see that thing was pretty roached just nasty that one had to be completely replaced just finishing up putting the driver's side wheel back together passing sides already done and then we'll be back to bleeding and don't forget ladies and gentlemen your hub nut on the driver's side is left hand thread oh how quickly we forget [Music] did you notice it says front on them oh okay in the back say back or rear actually different sizes uh i don't think so oh my god they're not [Music] well yeah i put the jack stand behind the wheel back here [Music] [Music] [Music] oh [Music] there you go you can go back after first yeah hey you got no reverse likes oh well here's respect it's when it spins it pressure puts on one side like probably just the cap that's holding it on to oh that's what i that's what i think but yeah it says power steering doesn't it yeah yep well i forgot um that awesome i have already played some skank you got little fins in the front fins in the back yeah the front fenders actually kind of match the rear fans we're sitting in here oh yeah how do you realize that yeah that brake line leak is uh the pull to the left oh yeah but she stopped but okay yeah i was gonna say it comes to a complete stop yeah it isn't i mean everyone is crap too yeah didn't even get a chance to wash her yeah i watched the windshield because it was real bad we did kind of did the side windows but i'm like i don't want to i just want to drive it let me i don't need a seat backwards i need to see this one all right cool map light glove box even sweet blast your pocket my hey again tons of room well that pretty much wraps it up for the buick video we got a loaded on a trailer yesterday and my buddy left town with it i'd like to see it again later on you know after it gets it kind of cleaned up and everything i didn't even get to see it polished kind of heartbreaking but i know it's going to good hands he's going to be taking care of it it's going to be garaged and it's going to be really well
