178b dog with a bite history this is Dwayne and he's a six-year-old Neapolitan Mastiff I'm going to turn the water on good boy boy good boy the owners were very worried about getting him groomed and for good reason good boy it's okay it's okay good boy Dwayne good boy Dwayne okay good boy you're okay Mr dude you're okay Mr dude good boy Dwayne's owner is a volunteer for Freedom drivers this organization helps move rescue animals from high kill shelters to Safe rescue groups across Ontario Quebec and the maritimes in the process of picking up Dwayne she fell in love and and Dwayne found himself in the lap of his new family good boy can I get in there with you you are really dirty the water is very Brown coming off of you but this adoption didn't come without some challenges Dwayne's history is mostly unknown but he exhibits some serious fear-based aggression she asked me not to remove his muzzle and avoid going over his head as that seems to be his biggest trigger okay buddy I know it's loud it's loud look there's a Timbit you like Timbits you want [Music] it good boy it's okay good boy good boy it's okay good boy you're like a miniature pony what's that this way oh you don't want it here for his blow dry I allowed him to roam my shop as he pleased I felt it would be less scary for him if he wasn't forced onto a table and cornered by myself and the cameraman good boy Dwayne the Neapolitan Mastiff is a massive powerful breed read to be fierce guardians of their home and ter originating from Italy they were first used as Dogs of War by the ancient Roman army and they were also Gladiators forced to fight men and big game such as lions tigers and even elephants considering this breed's history and what they were bred for these dogs have a natural tendency to guard and be skeptical of strangers you're shedding a lot they require an owner willing to put in countless hours of socialization and training and that's exactly what today's groom is for Dwayne an opportunity to socialize with strangers and face some of his fears helping him to build confidence being exceptionally good [Music] mhm now this reminds me of a horse this right here Dwayne was awesome for his groom today but once he pulled the muzzle off his face it was time to end the session nope we're not going to keep brushing he took the muzzle off of his face that means that the groom is over hi baby so pretty smelling so good yes good boy come here good boy come here my baby do you want to go in the backyard and run around you want to go run around you everywhere you see what I mean by he's so sweet but yeah he's he's uh extremely scared yeah right oh he's shiny look how shiny oh completing a groom on a dog like Dwayne is always a huge accomplishment we look forward to seeing him again in a few months in the hopes we can do more with him thank you all so much for watching I hope you enjoyed the delicate Dwayne
