where can your imagination take you we live in a world so full of unexplained beauty like a utopia yet we also have places here on earth like something out of a nightmare but with the use of our minds the possibilities are endless when it comes to where you can go or how far you can travel but i bet you didn't imagine these places you just won't believe what you're about to see from poison bodies of water alien filled caves rocks that sing and rings made by fairies we're bringing it with this list here are 15 scientifically impossible places that actually exist number 15. lactagafza tunisia locals say the lake had actually appeared out of nowhere la degassa also called mysterious lake appeared unexpectedly in 2014 alongside olm lairs road in tunisia the origin or formation of the lake is not clear the most likely explanation is that a minor earthquake had ruptured the rock above the water sending millions of cubic meters of water up to the surface tunisian people living in the drought-ridden desert area of the loch de gaza call its creation and appearance a miracle so when it appeared news of the mysterious lake spread like wildfire and hundreds of onlookers flocked to what quickly became known as the gofsa beach to swim and cool off in the region's stifling heat tunisia was in the middle of a drought which made the lake's sudden appearance even more enigmatic the mysterious lake had since become a major attraction of the area however swimming here is risky as the water of the lake could be contaminated with phosphates phosphorus compounds are used to manufacture anything from fertilizers pesticides and detergents to matches and chemical weapons in other words all the dangerous stuff now let's get ready for today's open discussion is it possible for any object on earth to be free from the restraints of gravity if the image of a giant rock floating weightlessly above the earth seemingly effortlessly then well i don't know make no mistake the rock still weighs the same it's not suddenly light as a feather what you could be experiencing is anti-gravity a hypothetical phenomenon of creating a place or object that is free from the force of gravity and does it even exist on earth yes it does the zero gravity research facility in ohio is nasa's premier facility for ground-based microgravity research and the largest facility of its kind in the world it provides researchers with a near weightless environment for a duration of 5.18 seconds have you ever felt weightless like on an amusement park ride when the big drop occurs can you imagine your own body free of gravity's limitations comment below using the hashtag opendiscussion you want to know a little secret if you smash the like button subscribe and click the notification bell you'll have superpowers for the rest of your life so what are you waiting for time to fly number 14 russia's siberian maldives the calm turquoise waters are a magnet for content creators desperate to take the perfect selfie but russia's siberian maldives is no natural wonder it's an ash dump the water gets its spectacular color from its depth in the various metal oxides dissolved in it it's also extremely alkaline with a ph of more than eight it's a highly toxic artificial pond used to dump ash from a nearby coal plant and warns the company that runs the planet unsafe for swimming in it the lake is filled with chemicals that can cause allergic skin reactions despite the warning people have continued to flock to the lake in a bid for the most instagrammable pictures from posing on its banks in a bikini to taking to the water on an inflammable unicorn in the last week our ash dump has become the star of social networks officials warned but you cannot swim in the ash dump authorities also warned visitors that the bottom of the lake is so muddy that getting out is almost impossible they went on to warn in capital letters therefore we ask you very much that in your quest for a selfie you don't fall down into the ash dump this is the biggest risk number 13 the georgia guidestones the nearly 20-foot granite slabs known as the georgia guide stones have sparked controversy around the world but are praised by yoko ono featured on the history channel and the subject of the conspiracy web series guidestones the monument five upright stones topped by a capstone weighs nearly 240 000 pounds and is inscribed in eight languages with 10 instructions for humans post apocalypse three decades after being erected the monument's true purpose is still being argued and its quasi commandments can seem either sincere or satanic the guidestones were erected in 1980 and have captured the curiosity of astronomy buffs peaceniks pagans and preachers over the decades since conspiracy theorists have decoded them pagans have held rituals around them graffiti artists have defaced them there is riveting for the curious origins and enigmatic intentions as they are for the cacophonous range of responses they evoke in observers the monument was commissioned in 1979 by a now deceased anonymous donor calling himself r.c christian a year later on march 22 1980 the guide stones were unveiled on a former cow pasture in the u.s highway 77. number 12 the devil's kettle on the brule river in minnesota a waterfall exists that has sparked imaginations for decades it's called the devil's kettle and it splits into two one half of the river flows up to the edge of the falls and tumbles over but the other half slips into the hole at the top of the falls and disappears locals in the area claim that everything from twigs to table tennis balls road signs to even a vehicle had supposedly been dropped into the hole over the 25 years and never reappeared others claimed the young man had rappelled over 25 feet into the hole and never saw the exit there's still no real confirmation as to where the water goes once it goes in recently scientists were able to solve the mystery using a simple stream gauging technique it turns out the water doesn't disappear at all above the falls the river flowed at 123 cubic feet per second several hundred feet below devil's kettle the flow was still the same the measurements showed that none of the water was actually leaving the river which meant all of the flow that tumbled into the devil's kettle and seemed to disappear actually rejoined the stream at the base of the falls so you can stop putting waste in there people number 11 romania's mobile cave in 1986 workers in romania were testing the ground to see if it were suitable for a power plant when they stumbled across the deep and dangerous movio cave despite the dark and deadly gases the caves were crawling with life an incredible 48 species were identified including 33 found nowhere else in the world how is that possible but within this harsh environment scientists have so far identified 48 species among the creatures are an array of spiders water scorpions pseudo scorpions centipedes leeches and isopods most of the creatures in the cave have no vision and lack pigment they're also on the whole a creepy crawly bunch with extra long limbs and antennae that help them navigate in the darkness however this still doesn't explain how the animals in the cave survive tests have shown that the water flowing in does not contain any food particles yet all of the species play a distinct role within the cave's insular ecosystem it's a delicate balance of life and death as the leeches prey on worms and the shrimps and crustaceans become lunch for the spiders and water scorpions not fun number 10 the longview caves in 1992 in the chinese village of longview a uniquely curious local named wu anai bought a water pump and began siphoning out the pond in his village he completely drained one and found that it wasn't really a pond at all but the flooded entrance to an ancient man-made cave one of ten carved into solid stiltstone each grotto descends around a hundred feet underground and contains stone rooms bridges gutters and pools the quantity of rock that would have been removed in the overall excavation of the grottoes is estimated to be nearly 35 million cubic feet that's a lot of rock taking into account the average digging rate per day per person scientists have calculated that it would have taken 1 000 people working day and night for six years to complete despite their size and the effort involved in creating them so far no trace of their construction or even their existence has been located in the historic record moreover there's not a single historic document that refers to the longview grottos which is highly unusual considering the sheer scale of the project it remains a complete and utter mystery number 9 the berkeley pit just outside butte montana lies a pit of greenish poison a mile and a half wide and over a third of a mile deep it hasn't always been so it was once a major copper mine appropriately dubbed the richest hill in the world over a billion tons of copper ore silver gold and other metals were extracted from the rock of southwestern montana making the mining town of butte one of the richest communities in our country as well as feeding america's industrial power for nearly a hundred years now it's filled with more than 40 billion gallons of acidic water heavy metals and unique microscopic life forms constant sound designed to keep birds away from landing in the toxic waters interestingly enough new fungal and bacterial species have been found to have adapted to the harsh conditions inside of the pit intense competition for the limited resources caused the species to evolve the production of highly toxic compounds to improve survivability some of which have been isolated from these organisms currently research continues over the active lifespan of the mine approximately 320 million tons of ore and over 700 million tons of waste rock were mined from the berkeley pit number eight ringing rocks of pennsylvania in a clearing in the woods in bridgton there lies a field of rocks their appearance doesn't do too much to ignite curiosity they're just scattered across a field it looks as though several dump trucks rolled up one day and left them there but they're not what they seem it's not the way they appear that attracts tourists many armed with hammers to this patch of rocks in upper bucks county it's the way that they sound yeah these stones sing well some of them only about a third of the rocks ring and for a long time why the rocks rang it all was unclear however in 1965 a group of scientists crushed broke and sliced open the rocks after performing numerous tests they found that while all the rocks do in fact ring they often do so at tones lower than the human ear can actually perceive furthermore the exact mechanism by which they ring still remains elusive though many are tempted to illegally pocket a ringing rock for later use it is futile as the rocks lose their musical ability once taken away from the other stones you're just gonna have to sit back and enjoy the sweet stone sounds where they are number 7 the eye of the sahara when nasa's gemini 4 mission launched in 1965 the astronauts were asked to take photos of earth's terrain and to look for any large circular features which might be the roots of impact structures like craters they discovered the eye of the sahara in the sahara desert in western africa on the ground it's about 25 miles across but this huge and mysterious geologic formation is hard to spot walking around on earth we couldn't really discover this incredible bullseye in the sand until we began rocketing humans into space for a while scientists did think that the eye of the sahara was an impact crater but they could not prove it and it was discovered that beginning more than 100 million years ago the supercontinent was ripped apart by plate tectonics and formed what are now africa and south america molten rock pushed up towards the surface creating a dome of rock layers like the biggest pimple ever and eventually the eye erupted violently that collapsed the bubble and erosion did the rest of the work to create the eye of the sahara that we know today fascinating right but maybe you didn't know some people believe that the eye of the sahara is actually the remains of the mythical city of atlantis number six mother shipton's petrifying well decorated with kids toys bikes and various trinkets mother shipton's petrifying well is thought to have an unusual quality it can turn objects to stone she is said to be a witch and an oracle predicting doomsday horrors and disasters that were associated with all kinds of tragic events and dark doings in the area including the bewitchment of this well that turned objects into stone the well nearby her dwelling that petrified objects left in its waters has been something of a visitor's attraction since 1630 making it one of the oldest tourist spots in all of england but the mystical secrets of mother shipton's petrifying well have been solved by modern science once thought to be the work of witchcraft it's now known that the water that can turn things into stone within three to five months is due to the natural process of evaporation and an unusually high mineral content but why miss an opportunity like this mother shipton's cave and petrifying well now has a gift shop a picnic area a wishing well and of course a walk along the river to see the witch's evil doings cue evil witch's cackle yeah that's the one number five chris we lost poland's crooked forest in a small corner of western poland a strange and eerie woodland exists this bizarre collection of curved trees named the crooked forest is shrouded in mystery and despite the numerous different theories that have been proposed over the years no one truly knows what caused the trees to adopt this conformation the crooked forest consists of around 400 pine trees that grow with a 90 degree bend at their base the vast majority of which are bent northward it's estimated that the trees were planted in the 1930s and that they were around 7 to 10 years old when they experienced whatever force that resulted in the trunk curvature so what could have caused these trees to grow in this bizarre shape some believe that fluctuations and gravitational forces could be responsible a slightly more plausible theory in that heavy snow could have flattened the trees for an extended period of time while they were still saplings the prevailing hypothesis is that farmers manipulated the trees in the 1930s to use their bend wood for furniture or ship building believe what you want but the best way to get there is to drive you can take the audubon from berlin and arrive in just under two hours number four the sea of stars imagine spending a day relaxing on the maldives seductive beaches and watching the sunset over some of the world's best landscapes then after a nice meal return to the soft sands and stroll hand in hand along the beach gaze into the sky and see countless stars in the milky way look over at the inky black indian ocean in the mid distance then stare at the bluish glow and sparkling of the water lapping against the shore this natural phenomenon in the maldives is known as the sea of stars a beautiful phenomenon that occurs during late summer caused by bioluminescent phytoplankton the water here is filled with this plankton and the movement of the waves causes it to glow creating a shimmering effect that looks like the sea is full of stars stress caused by the movement of the sea and waves leads the plankton to emit light or bioluminescence as a defense mechanism in a similar way to some fireflies and nobody can predict when and where this event will occur but vadhu island in the ra atoll is the most well-known spot but it can also be viewed as one of the 1200 other islands in the maldives in the right conditions as well number three the fairy circles of namibia the namib desert is covered with regular patterns of bare circles whose origin is fiercely debated by researchers namibia's fairy circles one belief is that the empty patches are created by termites under the soil that clear vegetation in the area around the nest by making the soil porous they establish permanent reservoirs of rain water below the surface which sustain them and the surrounding ecosystem an alternative idea is that the circles are explained by plants competing for water plants help their nearest neighbors by creating shade and maintaining water on the soil surface but hinder those further away by growing long roots that extract water from the soil the water competition theory can explain the regular patterns neatly but hasn't been proven in any test meanwhile the termite theory is backed up by observations of termite nests in the circles but couldn't explain why the patterns are so regular the circles got their colorful name from the native himba people who live in the region they say that the circles are footprints of the gods or perhaps caused by a mythical dragon whose poisonous breath kills vegetation to create patterns number 2 coral castle one of florida's greatest unsolved mysteries while theories around regarding its creation many find it hard to explain how a 100 pound man who stood just a hair over five feet tall was able to move carve and manipulate more than 1100 tons of coral in the early 1900s a latvia native named ed was set to marry the love of his life but she called off the wedding the day before the festivities forcing him to move to the united states alone where he spent the rest of his life building a monument to their love in 1923 he began creating coral castle on a patch of land that he had purchased in florida city with no modern construction tools or conveniences and equipped with only hand-held tools and a fourth grade education he moved cut sculpted rearranged and constructed nearly 1100 tons of coral the heartbroken immigrant spent 28 years constructing the castle which he eventually finished in 1951 the year of his death he claimed to know the secrets of how the pyramids and stonehenge were built the mystery of how it was done has led it to be called america's stonehenge number one mysterious siberian holes in 2014 massive holes began appearing in parts of siberia one giant crater in the yamaha peninsula spanned more than 100 feet wide the following year dozens more of these mystery holes were spotted nearby since then scientists have been able to determine that the mystery hole wasn't an impact from a meteorite and the most likely explanation was that these holes could have been formed by underground methane explosions or by the freezing and melting of the landscape creating geological formations known as pingos if the holes were caused by methane explosions it could be the same phenomenon that's been offered as an explanation behind the bermuda triangle meaning that researchers could be dealing with methane explosions that when underwater are powerful enough to sink entire ships the craters in siberia may be an indicator of what is commonly referred to as a methane time bomb these explosions aren't concerning just because of their mere size they're concerning because methane is a major contributor to the warming of the atmosphere so not good those were 15 scientifically impossible places that actually exist thanks for watching [Music] [Music]
