if you weren't around during the 1990s to the early 2000s then you might not know just how offensive or problematic some Cartoon Network shows really were so let me show you 15 of the craziest Band episodes I've found fact number one starting us off strong is not one not two but 12 different Bugs Bunny episodes that were scrapped during Cartoon Network's June bug Marathon way back in 2001 one of which is called hawa's rabbit hunt these episodes were taken down because they all feat Ed some sort of racist caricature typically being Native American this obviously was very [Music] offensive one little two little three little engines four little five little six little engines uh-oh sorry that one was a half breed I don't know eh what's up with that bugs fact number two a more heartwarming fact is that there are multiple Cartoon Network episodes that were either taken down or temporarily banned following the 911 attacks this was of course to help with healing and not trying to trigger any trauma responses from the audience specifically if the episode involved a crashing of some sort involving planes or tall buildings for example season 1 episode 19 of the famous Pokémon series meno kurage dook kurage was taken down because there was a scene in which two skyscrapers are destroyed we are Tac cool and T pool here us now humans have destroyed our ocean home and now we will have our revenge it's too late horsey no matter what you think we cannot turn away we must teach humans the pain of having homes destroyed another Pokémon episode season 1 episode 22 the Tower of Terror was banned for a short period of time with no other reason than the reference of tower being in the title fact number three all hell broke loose during the infamous catastrophe the 1997 airing of Pokémon's cyber Soldier this episode was the 38th episode in the miniseries Pocket Monsters it was only aired one time in its Home Country Japan before causing Max chaos because of the flashing strobe lights that happened within the episode it caused hundreds of children thought to be around 600 to have seizure-like effects and become hospitalized because the catastrophe was so massive the show went on a 4mon Hiatus not only this but the episode was not only banned but it's not even considered to be part of the franchise anymore they basically want all memories of this to go away but anyways let's all talk about it interestingly enough this episode introduced Porygon because of the trauma that surrounded this new Pokémon Porygon went on to be an extra in the background only ever having extremely minor Parts throughout the rest of the anime fact number four now for a cartoon tune targeted towards a much younger audience I'm more than a little surprised to see it make this list Peppa Pigs Mr Skinny Legs there's no need to be afraid Peppa spiders are very very small and they can't hurt you but don't worry Daddy will take it out of the bedroom wa in this episode they reinforce the idea that spiders can't hurt you so you shouldn't be so afraid of them a nice thought for someone say living in a place that doesn't Harbor many scary SPS spiders after airing this episode was quickly banned in Australia due to the fact that spiders that live there typically can and actually will her if not kill you fact number five unfortunately for those wanting representation in the Middle East the insanely popular cartoon Steven Universe is banned in many Middle Eastern countries for its lgbtq themes throughout the show one specific country is Kenya who also banned Adventure Time for the same reason however they are still available in is is which is the only country in that general area that allows these shows to still run fact number six another show I'm shocked to see make this list Powerpuff Girls season 5 episode 7 see me feel me know me wasn't aired in the United States until 2009 5 years after it was supposed to be released while airing basically everywhere else in the world Cartoon Network didn't let it see the light of day in America claiming that the beams in several destroyed buildings look too much like crosses and that one of the hippies that was depicted too closely resemble Jesus they also said that there was a scene with too many strobes which could be dangerous for children with epilepsy and let me tell you they weren't wrong about that I shouldn't have looked that up although the episode became available once it released on the complete DVD series you can also find the episode now on many different streaming services such as Netflix Amazon Google Play and iTunes just to name a few fact number seven one Tiny Tunes a spin-off of Looney Tunes episode episode was banned immediately after release because of violence issues funny how they'll ban quickly for violence but blackface and other racist SK stayed up for years anyways one beer was an episode created to warn young children about the use of alcohol but the audience felt that it was too intensely violent for young kids to watch which is objectively valid as in the end of the episode features several of the Tiny Tunes characters being inebriated while driving and then falling off a very very tall mountain the characters then are seen in a sort of heaven-like depiction of the afterlife needless to say the episode wasn't re-released until about 20 years later fact number eight Buffalo Gals a Cow and Chicken episode that was banned right after its first airing and I have no idea how Cartoon Network would have thought this episode was okay to air in the first place especially considering they didn't air the Power Puff Girls episode for reasons minute in comparison in the episode Buffalo Gals there was a biker gang led by someone named Munch Kelly breaks into strangers houses and proceeds to munch on their carpets if you hadn't guessed it already the episode was taken down for being offensive towards lesbian women fact number nine Peppa Pig somehow being controversial again didn't wear a seat belt for the majority of the show's beginning producers of the show had claimed that they had originally debated on whether or not she should be depicted wearing one but decided it would be easier to animate facial expressions and activities within the car if they didn't add extra details I.E seat belts the creators were forced to add in seat belts to the old animations and proceeded to continue to add them for future Seasons as many parents were upset because their children weren't wearing seat belts because they wanted to be like Peppa fact number 10 Rude Removal was an episode that was originally supposed to be part of season 2 of Dexter's Lab but was quickly banned due to profanity used by Dexter and Dei the idea of the episode was for the children to have essentially evil clone of themselves that portray their Rudee thoughts and behavior these clones were the ones saying all of the swears and while these words were censored it was obvious what the characters were actually meaning to say Adult Swim actually gained access to the episode and aired it on January 22nd 2013 it quickly was taken down however January 25th 2013 just 3 days later and this golden head Angel behind me is my charming sister Diddy Charmed oh oh dear excuse me sir but we think that was very rude and we are in want of an apology fact number 11 an alarming number of Tom and Jerry episodes included a character named two shoes mamy and just a little history lesson for you Mami is a historically black stereotype a common caricature that was often portrayed throughout all of the 1900s mamy commonly resembled a larger black woman who works with a white family and nurses the family's children children two sho's mamy was no exception to this and seemed to either be the owner or the maid of the house in which Tom and Jerry sabotaged in every single episode HBO banned every episode where mam is present while Cartoon Network just redubbed her and changed a lot of her lines so that it isn't as offensive fact number 12 I previously mentioned the cult classic Tom and Jerry being banned for things like caricatures and hate towards Native Americans but this sadly wasn't the only time the show was extremely offensive they also have many different episodes that have been either edited scenes cut out or Flatout whole episodes being banned because of the use of black face there are so many episodes where the characters were seen in blackace much more than I was expecting when beginning my research let's just say the creators of Tom and Jerry were on something fierce fact number 13 this fact is actually crazy I cannot believe season 1 episode 35 the legend of Dratini Pokémon was allowed to be aired in Asia specifically especially considering how strict their gun control laws are this episode was never aired anywhere outside of Asia because of the excessive use of firearms throughout although this episode didn't air in America it wasn't completely banned and is still considered to be part of the series since it did air in its origin country this is quite different from the Porygon situation as that one isn't considered to even exist anymore now while it was scrapped completely for the dubbed version that doesn't mean the actions that happened within the episode were scrapped as well Ash had caught 30 Tauros during that episode which can be seen in later dubbed episodes leaving a minor plot hole for everyone who wasn't able to watch the unaired episode fact number 14 Pokémon is flat out completely banned in Saudi Arabia because they claim that Pokémon is a Zionist plot which basically means that they thought the Pokémon show was a ploy to spread Judaism allegedly several Pokémon appear to be based off certain creatures from Jewish mythology because of this Saudi band not only the show but also the games and playing cards probably because of this Witch Hunt of sorts a rumor spread around that Pokémon actually translated from Japanese to I'm a Jew this is not only wrong also a crazy assumption and an easy Google search away from factchecking if this is actually true or not obviously it isn't Pokemon translates to pocket monster which makes a lot more sense considering the show and premise and the fact that the show isn't some weird Jewish plot to sabotage Islamic teachings within Saudi Arabia fact number 15 ending with a relatively calmer fact than literally all of those listed above China banned All Foreign cartoons from airing during golden hours roughly 5 to 9:00 p.m. they did this to try and ensure domestic cartoons gain more popularity they are quite strict on this Rule and even if a foreign cartoon is co-wrote with Chinese producers Etc it must get approval from the government before airing unfortunately these residents weren't able to experience the great cartoons we all grew up with however I'm sure their domestic cartoons gave just as much joy as ours did for us
