for the duration of this video you can forget everything you think you know about what cars planes trains and other vehicles look like we won't be looking at any of the common makes and models today not every kind of vehicle was made to fit a mold some technically advanced vehicles were made to suit a specific task or purpose and they look nothing like any other invention you've ever seen this is a celebration of large powerful and highly specialized moving machines bubbles float on water so why not use a bubble to cross water that's the simple but effective theory behind the bubble taxis of Miami Florida USA while bubble might be a charming thing to call them it understates the complexity of the machines they're all electric hydrofoil self-stabilizing taxis and they're here to help passengers travel across bodies of water and style the design is French but the vehicles made their debut for the see bubbles taxi service in Miami in early 2019 they're 20 kilowatt electric drive systems push the bubbles along to 8 miles per hour and once they hit their required speed the hydrofoils raise the body of the craft above the water line and allow greater acceleration up to a top speed of around 18 miles per hour normally a vessel this small would be unstable moving at that speed through waves but the altitude and gyroscopic sensors aboard the craft allow it to correct its tilt and keep it level there is a slight drawback though one single unit of the vehicle cost $200,000 that might explain why there are so few of them in operation at the moment many of us would enjoy the convenience of owning a scooter but the idea is often made impractical by having nowhere to store or park it when we don't need it this next surprising piece of technology is a solution to that problem it's called Point MO it's an all-electric inflatable scooter that when deflated folds up to such a small size she could easily fit it inside an average-size backpack the idea was developed in Japan at the University of Tokyo and was first shown off to the world's public in may 20 20 at this stage Point MO is a single build prototype but it's a promising idea rather than being made from the kind of metal parts that would make folding and storage difficult the scooter is crafted from thermoplastic polyurethane which makes it much easier to handle and keeps the weight of the body down to 5 pounds factor in the in wheel motor in the total weight comes to a trim 17 pounds might we see multiple point moe units on the streets of our busy towns and cities in the near future we wouldn't be surprised [Music] no self-respecting billionaire goes without owning a yacht and our next vehicle is a yacht unlike any other in the world it's the sea eagle to a 266 footlong schooner built by Royal Heisman and the largest aluminum sailing yacht in history as if that wasn't enough to make it unique on its own it comes with a hydraulic crow's nest the gargantuan ship was made to order by the company for Taiwanese businessman dr. Samuel Yin who also owns the less technologically advanced sea eagle one the billionaire apparently wanted to know if the company was capable of keeping to its slogan if you can dream it we can build it they didn't let him down he can't play with his expensive new toy just yet though the ship has been moved across the land from Royal heisman central Dutch Factory to their Amsterdam Base to have a carbon-composite rig installed after which she'll have to undergo sea trials before being formally handed over to her owner when he does take ownership he'll presumably throw a party onboard with up to 30 guests in the ship's enormous formal dining room most of you will have heard of the caterpillar company which supplies heavy-duty tractors bulldozers and other engineering and demolition equipment to work sites all over the world the company has built dozens of different powerful vehicles over the many decades it's been trading but none quite like the caterpillar d8 twin only three units of this incredibly impressive machine were ever built back then the standard d8 was the most powerful highest horsepower vehicle caterpillar had ever constructed but for some customers that still wasn't enough they needed more power so are a Buster Peterson came up with a simple yet effective solution to the problem he took to d8 units removed the inside tracks of each machine then bolted the two tractors together to come up with the cat twin d8 it came with 296 horsepower and unbelievable torque the first of them known as the super push cat was dispatched to a logging site in Montana where it cleaned out the floodplain of a new reservoir almost single-handedly it's probably only the great expense that came with trying to acquire a machine like this that prevented more units from being built sometimes military conflicts proved to be the breeding grounds for innovation one such example was the iran-iraq war where the two sides often met to do battle in marshland and swamps at the tigress Delta close to Basra getting a normal tank through the boggy land proved to be impossible for either side so the Iranians came up with the solution they built a location-specific Marsh buggy and suddenly the swamps were no longer a problem the enormous 12-foot diameter wheels made passing through any terrain easy and the fact that the heavily armored wheels were hollow kept the weight down low enough to avoid the risk of the entire vehicle sinking into the wet ground beneath it these slightly larger rear wheels pushed the buggy along while the front pair were used for steering there wasn't much space for soldiers between the wheels but it was still possible to squeeze three or four people in this small compartment to drive the massive buggy along when the war came to an end the buggies were no longer required and so they were retired from service for all we know they may have since been scrapped there was a spike in sightings of UFOs and flying saucers in the late 1970s and early 1980s perhaps instead of seeing aliens all the people who saw those unidentified flying objects were actually seeing the ikan a Soviet multifunctional aerodrome free aircraft that has an undeniable resemblance to a classic flying saucer had the program been seen through to completion it could have potentially led to a revolution in the field of aviation the e Kip with its distinctive elliptical fuselage and flying wing system is capable of short takeoff and landing and can land on hard or soft ground or even water using an air cushion there's no need for an airport when you've got an e Kemp the e cab project began in 1978 and showed promise during the testing phase but work was disrupted by the fall of the Soviet Union the Russian government attempted to fund the completion of the work but the developers quickly spent the government's money and still needed more at one point in 2003 it appeared that work would resume as a joint American Russian enterprise but that idea quickly stalled and the one working ECAP prototype was quietly retired in 2005 it's now on display at a museum near Moscow in the minds of most people the first vehicle that will come to mind when they asked to think about a luxury car as a limousine the long sleek vehicles aren't especially fast or maneuverable but they look good you might not think that a farmer would have much use for a limousine given that it it'd be impractical for one to travel across farmland but that hasn't stopped one from being built in Russia in truth it's probably not the most graceful limousine we've ever seen the front end of the limo comes from a Lincoln town car and the back is from the MT z80 Belarus tractor the cab of the tractor still exists at the back of the limo and that's where the driver says the front of the limo is for passengers only that must make driving and judging corners more than a little difficult we don't know whether turning up to the red-carpet event and a limo like this would be considered a classy move but at least everybody would notice your arrival nuclear power stations can be dangerous even when you take all the proper safety precautions that's why it's good advice to keep them as far away from major population centers recently in Russia we've seen a new idea about nuclear power stations why host them on the land when you could host them out at sea that's the line of thinking that led to the design of the ship known as the academic Lomonosov the world's first floating nuclear power plant the highly specialized ship was assembled at the baltic shipyard in st. petersburg and at the end of 2019 it was towed into position close to Murmansk to begin generating electricity by incorporating the floating power station with the electricity grid to aging land-based power stations Incheon and bilibino can be taken offline and retired the ship has been given a provincial license to stay in position and do about its business until the end of 2029 but in theory it should be able to remain operational for 40 or even 50 years we've all become accustomed to seeing solar panels on the roofs of tall buildings or in fields but we're less accustomed to seeing them on vehicles solar power isn't generally thought of as being viable when it comes to transport as when the Sun Goes Down the vehicles would quickly run out of power a cop in Australia is trying to change that perception though they've come up with the world's first fully operational solar-powered train it might not look like a brand-new train but that's because of the byron bay railroad company that bought and refurbished a decades-old unit to give it a new lease of life they've also refurbished the 70 year old three mile long track that it runs on to make it better suited to facilitate the solar train the train has a 6.5 kilowatt solar array on the roof of each of its carriages feeding into a 77 kilowatt hour battery that stores enough energy to run the train back and forth between the town and beach resort that it serves up to 15 times without needing to stop for recharging in case the Sun doesn't feel like helping out there's also a charging station at both ends of the lawn there are farm tractors and then there's big buds 747 built in Havre Montana USA in 1977 big bud is recognized as the largest fully functional farm tractor ever created this all-american beast comes with 1,100 horsepower and gargantuan proportions it's 14 feet tall 28 feet wide 20 feet long and weighs in at 135 thousand pounds when fully ballast Montana's northern manufacturing company built Big Bud at a cost of $300,000 for a cotton farming company in Bakersfield called rosy brothers who use it for deep ripping duties for 11 years when rosy brothers had no further use for it Big Bud moved on to the Williams farm in Chateau County where it's been several years dragging an 80 foot long cultivator across the earth at speeds of up to 8 miles per hour after that it passed from the farming company to farming company for 20 years and I'd still be working now if the Canadian company that made the tractors tires hadn't gone bankrupt in the year 2000 with nobody else stepping in to make the tires Big Bud finally retired in 2009 the dish used vehicle is now in display at the heartland Museum in Clarion Iowa just as Big Bud is the largest farm tractor ever built the echo dozer is the largest bulldozer ever built but the story of the echo dozer is actually a little sad despite all the money effort and expertise that went into building it it's never been used this italian-made bulldozer was built according to a design by Umberto Eco himself with a 23 foot wide blade a 10 foot tall Ripper and two monolithic hydraulic rams taken as a whole it's 40 feet long and weighs more than 180 tons so why wasn't it used the answer is politics the client that ordered the construction of this super bulldozer during the mid-1980s was based in Libya but international trade sanctions were imposed on Libya in 1986 these sanctions prevented the completed bulldozer from being exported to its intended location and the deal collapse no alternative buyer could be found for the enormous vehicle so it's been in storage ever since it's up but it might one day become a museum exhibit when we think of Microsoft we usually think of Bill Gates but there's someone else who did very well out of the success of that company and that's its co-founder Paul Allen Paul is a billionaire just like his former business partner and in recent years he's been spending some of his fortune on developing new forms of aviation with his company Strato launched through the company he's funded the design of the model 351 Strato launch aircraft which with a 385 foot wingspan is the widest plane ever built this Colossus of a plane with its unusual twin fuselage design has six engines fed by six fuel tanks and eight separate sets of landing gear almost every piece of the plane has been cannibalized from old Boeing 747 units to make something new originally it was envisioned that the 351 Strato launch would carry Pegasus XL rockets to high altitude so that could be launched into space but the company had a change of heart about that idea in mid 2019 and now they're focusing on providing a high-speed high-altitude passenger flight service that could significantly reduce the amount of time it takes to get from one side of the world to the other the project is still developing so you might see one of these planes high in the sky above you one day so subscribe to the channel and turn on notifications and you will be the first to know when a new video comes out thank you for watching and see you in the next video
