10 Clone Wars Era Ships used by Rebels

[Music] hi friends welcome back to another episode of generation tech my name is alan after the rise of the new order emperor palpatine seized control of all the shipyards weapons manufacturers vehicle factories cloning facilities and everything else that made up the military industrial complex this was a part of his military first strategy it was designed to create jobs and also promote stability all across the galaxy by controlling all of these assets palpatine also made it incredibly hard for anyone outside of the military infrastructure to purchase something as simple as a hold-out blaster and so the rebel alliance especially in the earlier years of the galactic civil war had to steal and scavenge whatever supplies they could find in order to assemble their own military force which is why it's not surprising that a good portion of the rebel alliance navy was made up of clone wars-era ships today we're going to take a look at 10 of those clone wars vessels and talk about how the rebel lions use them [Music] the laa team was a clone trooper's best friend on the battlefield the sight of one of these lumbering birds in the sky meant that evac was on its way or perhaps reinforcements in the form of a fresh squad of troopers or even some armored support although they were relatively slow and vulnerable to aa fire and enemy starships the laat was still the working mule of the j.r and without it the republic would have never been able to defeat the separatist alliance unless palpatine allowed them to of course with the cargo capacity of either 30 troopers or one large walker the laat allowed the jar to quickly deploy massive amounts of troops and gear but once the drop ship unloaded its cargo it transformed from being a black hawk style transport to more of a hind style gunship the liat had a pair of chin mounted laser cannon turrets along with two turret gunners using a very destructive continuous laser beam and then you had a belt-fed mass driver missile launcher system which is as deadly as it sounds the laat was probably one of the most common ships in the republic navy the venator-class star destroyer could carry up to 40 of these drop ships and an acclimator class assault ship could carry over 80 of them so instead of just overwhelming the enemy with speed and mobility the la-18 simply just overwhelmed the enemy with numbers and because of that a lot of liats were manufactured and left behind on all sorts of different battlefields across the galaxy which is why it was pretty easy for the rebellion to get their hands on some of these the wookies along with saw guerrero's partisans on kashyyyk were able to recover several allieds left over from the clone wars and used them to great effect against the empire the dense foliage and massive tree environments on kaishik were a perfect place for the slow but maneuverable la-18 to shine [Music] now the lucra hull class battleship was always an extremely unwieldy ship that usually performed quite poorly on the battlefield it was simply too large and not designed for warfare it's essentially a trade federation cargo ship with tons of weapons and placements and shield generators bolted onto it funny enough that's exactly what the rebel alliance was used to they always bolted on weapons to civilian ships and turned them into warships although most looker hole class battleships are scrapped in large yards like the one we see on bronca in jedi fallen order at least one liquor hulk called luca hulk prime was used as a flight school commanded by general hara syndulla we recently did a breakdown of the income t65b x-wing we talked about how it was a perfect balance between its two predecessors first you had the z95 headhunter this was a pretty simplistic pre-clone wars design it was a very maneuverable single-seater fighter that lacked the hyperdrive and astromech socket and required some modifications before being adopted by the gar the arc 170 was on the other end of the spectrum this long range recon ship had a pilot navigator and rear gunner's seat it also packed a lot of goodies like powerful medium laser cannons a class one hyperdrive and shields after a huge portion of income corporation's development team defected over to the rebellion it only made sense for the rebel lines to utilize as many income ships as possible the z95 which was now several decades older and even older than the arc 170 was used for close air support tie fighter violence actually nicknamed them skulls probably because of the massive amount of carnage they left behind after they attacked imperial convoys sargeras partisans were also one of the many units that operated one of these old birds the arc 170 failed as a multi-purpose fighter during the clone wars but was used by the empire as a long-range recon ship thanks to its unique set of skills and powerful sensors because the arc 170 had a class 1.5 hyperdrive and was able to keep up with rebel squadrons it was also utilized by the ripple alliance rebel aces like shara bay the mother of poe dameron nora wexley mother of temen snap wexley and then cryrel all flew in arc 170 at one time in their rebel career the delta 7 ether sprite was a pre-clone wars vessel specifically designed for the jedi this meant minimal sensors and maximum maneuverability these ships in the proper hands were incredibly graceful and deadly but also lacked much protection for the pilots so much so that the jedi actually protested against the use of this ship and eventually switched to the eta2 act as light interceptor which honestly wasn't that much beefier the delta 7 ether sprite would be used as an interceptor early on by the rebellion in the galactic civil war alongside the a-wing [Music] at the beginning of the clone wars the largest ship in the republic navy was the acclimator class assault ship which essentially was a massive troop carrier while it wasn't the most heavily armored or armed vessel in the war what the acclimator class held inside of its hole was what made it so impressive the acclimator using a giant landing ramp could quickly dispel 16 000 clone troopers along with all of their vehicles and equipment that was an entire division of infantry that could be deployed anywhere in the galaxy at a moment's notice what made this ship even more impressive was the fact that it had a class 0.6 hyperdrive making it essentially the fastest production ship the galaxy had ever seen only the millennium falcon is basically faster and we all know how reliable that aftermarket hyperdrive is during the galactic civil war general harrison doula would claim the lodestar an accolader class assault ship as her flagship the giant vessel's interior was converted to handle multiple rebel fighter wings along with a large complement of rebel infantry and all of their supplies and equipment the lordsard would play a crucial role in taking out imperial holdouts in the last year of the war now the belt the glass frigate was used mainly as a medical freaking by the republican therefore routinely used as target practice by diabolical separatist leaders throughout the war the peltic class frigate was highly customizable so it wasn't completely defenseless you could add on additional shields engines even turbo laser emplacements and new docks for starfighters this was basically quad driveyard's attempt to push into carillion engineering's market of customizable frigates and corvettes which were essentially the only starships the rebel alliance had in the beginning of the war the peltic class would be used by the rebellion alongside the cr90 corvette and the hammerhead corvette and fill a similar role phoenix home the command ship for the rebel unit known as phoenixself was a peltier class frigate it could actually dock eight a-wings including five internally in a small cargo bay it also had upgraded shields and weapons the only drawback of the paltic class was that it had a slower class ii hyperdrive the y-wing is probably the most famous clone wars-era ship used by the rebellion it was mainly used as a bomber and assault fighter by their rebel starfighter corps during the clone wars the btlb-y wing also served in a similar role for the galactic republic it was known for its ruggedness and durability after the separatists were defeated the empire focused more on large capital ships rather than hyper drive equipped snub fighters so most why wings were essentially sold to planetary defense forces or sent to scrapyards where they were stolen by thieving rebels now rebel engineers actually rebranded the bltb y-wing as the btl-4a y-wing now it's kind of like when shelby puts their badge on stock mustangs and upgrades them except in this case the rebel engineers didn't really upgrade the ship instead they stripped it apart and made it a lot more sketchy looking they removed a good portion of the whole plating on the ship along with the engine covers this made the ship several meters shorter and a lot lighter they also removed the rear turret and the gunner seat which further decreased the weight the y-wing was basically the amber alert gray van of the star wars universe now during the clone wars the y-wing was already considered pretty slow and so these modifications were kind of necessary to give this old relic a chance of surviving an attack run for some reason the rebellion could never really find a suitable replacement for the y wing the b weighing was adopted a bit after the y wing but it also had several problems along with being a very awkward ship to fly by the time of the resistance in first order war the y wing was once again rebranded as a bta and r2 y-wing which honestly is just like a retro looking y-wing with slightly upgraded internal parts kind of like a triumph motorcycle that looks like the old bonnevilles but now has efi and you know abs brakes the cethopede class transport was pretty unremarkable the stock models actually were unarmed and only had a basic shield generator on them the confederacy even pen systems version of the transport had better armor larger engines and better shielding and some even had weapons on board to increase survivability now during the galactic civil war a team of rebels from phoenix cell traveled to the planet of agamar and discovered a still active separatist base located there the rebel unit ended up taking one of these cethipede class transports and christian did the phantom 2 and used the ship on several missions the mandalorian karma class fighter is a thing of beauty half star fighter have transports in the hands of a skilled mando pilot it was also extremely effective on the battlefield one of the cool parts of the comrade class's design is the fact the wings rotate around the cockpit making it a very confusing ship for the enemy to track in true mandalorian fashion the karma class fighter design was never changed from the beginning of the clone wars where it was utilized by death watch all the way to the resistance era when the mandalorians under the commando lando calrissian helped take out the sith eternal fleet on mexico during the galactic civil war bowtie cries in our night owls fought alongside the rebels on several occasions using the gauntlet which was also a comic class fighter during the siege of atlan the gauntlet was able to drop mando rebel troops directly onto an imperial interdictor ship the borders were able to destroy the gravity well generators on the vessel which allowed the rebellion to escape the imperial blockade to live and fight another day so there you have it guys as you can see the rubble lions had no qualms about recycling old clone wars fighters and starships for their
