in this video we're going to explore 10 hidden gems around san diego next on jaycation what's up jaycationers welcome back to another video here in the san diego series today we are going to be exploring 10 hidden gems around san diego that tourists may not know about or even locals may not know about right now we are here at the jetty we're going to show you guys this jetty a little later but we're going to start off at the first place which is closer to my house in sorrento valley at carl strauss so take it away jj all right jk shiners so the first hidden gem i'm going to show you we're not going from like top 10 from 10 to 1 we're actually just gonna do 10 hidden gems and this is just happens to be closest to my house but i'm going to give you 10 places to check out the first one here is carl straus now if you're local for mira mesa you'll know this place but it's a hidden gem to people from out of town because it's actually in the middle of a business park and this carl strauss actually has a really beautiful koi pond and an awesome weekend brunch so it makes the first hidden gem on this list [Music] this is my worst nightmare falling into a koi pond and getting chewed up by these koi fish so this is carl strauss and the koi pond it's over here in sorrento valley in the middle of this one business park here so i definitely recommend checking it out especially on weekend brunch they have great deals so obviously there's more than 10 hidden gems so this might be the first video of quite a few hidden gems videos in san diego you take this little trail up this way up in this business park trail they have a bench here up on these benches you get a nice little view of the koi pond a little bonus especially for you locals this is the scissors art installation that's been here since i was a kid and everybody sees it from the 805 and wonders what it is it's just an art installation in front of this building called alexandria now that's pretty cool sd love so the next hidden gem is here at westfield utc right next to the javier's restaurant probably the newest hidden gem on this list and i'm willing to consider a lot of people that go to utc don't even find this area we're gonna check out the next hidden gem which is this beautiful stairwell right next to javier's that leads up to din tai fung and the rest of the mall so you guys ask me why is this a hidden gem well i really enjoy the beautiful tiling that they have here and during christmas when they had poinsettias lined up it was so much more colorful it looks like a pretty cool stairwell you got javiers downstairs din tai fung upstairs even though these places are a little pricey maybe you can get a happy hour deal here and maybe you can take a few pictures on this stairwell there's even this hangout spot right here so those are really cool tiles different types of tilings on each step different patterns and at the top of the stairs you got the din tai fung [Music] there's also a bunch of beautiful art installations around utc that you can consider part of the hidden gems as well there's one right here [Music] when this is open raised by wolves just around the corner from that stairway there is a revolving wall that looks like a fireplace that turns around to get you into a bar so post pandemic might be a nice place to check out all right vacationers we're here at the birch aquarium parking lot it is empty right now because the aquarium is obviously close due to the pandemic the hidden swing is right up this hill and i'm gonna try to sneak a quick peek of it [Music] and bad news guys the hidden swing is usually right here it was taken down but look at the usual view you would get that's a fail the hidden swings the remnants are still there a few of the chains beautiful view is still here no hidden swings right now they probably took it down because of the pandemic but there's still one more hidden swing and it's by the water so let's go check that one out so here's the trail that's the birch aquarium parking lot all right vacationers we're here in la jolla now the next place we're going to you can actually park right here and walk in towards the trail this is right before la jolla cove can't get any more secret than this than this path right here so the next swing is down over this way so you just hook a right on that trail i took and you'll see this footbridge and you have to kind of jump the railings and then go down this white rope and then you jump over this railing down over this white rope right here [Music] all right vacationer so that's it that's the swing [Music] i'm messing with that all right so since i'm by myself i wasn't about to get on that swing if that thing snapped i'm done for but at least you guys know go down to that white walking bridge follow the ropes down not too hard to get down and up so it's pretty cool pretty cool scenery too especially if you want to take a nice photo all right jk shiners if you're finding value so far on this video i just appreciate you giving it a like and if you can subscribe and hit that notification bell so you get updates on when i go live and when i post these videos throughout the week i'd really appreciate it now to the next hidden gem the next hidden gem on the list is this wooden stairway that overlooks scripps pier it's off a scripps trail there's actually a couple of parking spots in the lot below it so if you wanted to go there and just take a few pictures it's right over that way it was close today because of construction so i have b-roll from the last time i was over there but it's a beautiful place to look at la jolla and scripps pier this is called oppa's bench now there's this really beautiful stairway right here that everybody sees in all these tourist pictures [Music] all right jaycationer so next on the list is the viewpoints and the secret beaches around bird rock now there's a few different viewpoints from the end of wind and sea till the end of bird rock until you get to pacific beach and turmeric beach but there are many beautiful scenic views you can see point loma from in the distance and there's also parking at this viewpoint now this is the secret beach that i wanted to show y'alls a couple girls they're taking instagram pics now look at the view over here [Music] and as you turn the corner it's rocky but then when it's lower tied you can go down here and take some very scenic pictures look at that [Applause] [Music] down here you have a little mini cove literally a path that is right between two houses so you might miss it if you drive just past it it's right before the viewpoint if you're coming from wind and sea so check it out [Music] it's literally this one path here and there is some parking on the street so make sure that you don't over shoot this right here i'll make sure to list it down in the link below all right guys so we eliminated kate sessions park because i went over there and there was no parking whatsoever so that does not constitute as a hidden gem whether those are all locals or or not that's eliminated so kate sessions no parking makes it illuminated i'm gonna replace it with this one place that i just discovered it's been around san diego for a long time it's called city lights so all year round christmas store so let's check that spot out as the next hidden gem all right vacationers me and maddie are here at city lights in morena boulevard checking out their christmas decorations check out the gingerbread house here they have tons of ornaments up in here we got all these dog ornaments this is like the knott's berry farm one but we're in san diego let's see if they have christmas villages that we can check out let's check out the santas they have here christmas nightmare before christmas and look how big their villages are here [Music] wow [Music] this place is awesome they even have kind of a north pole theme here it's basically the same stuff we've seen in a knott's berry farm [Music] all right let's get out of here before i end up having to buy something wow look at all these christmas trees so this is our next hidden gem right here this is the marina jetty that's in between ob and mission beach and it's really cool because you get water on two sides you see the ocean beach dog park down the way and it's just a very scenic jetty and you can take it all the way down it's just awesome look at this view not very many people know about this jetty because it's so hidden you got to go to quivara way where marina village is that's where i had my graduation party but it's just beautiful over here and it's a nice bike ride or if you have your skateboard with you you can take it all the way down so it ends right where the fences are but you can take a look at all the dogs and owners playing with their dogs really nice check out cool sunset and then you got mission bay and mission beach right behind me we also got a few sailboats [Music] this is the furthest you can get a lot of people like to go fishing around here [Music] this is the parking lot that you're going to want to park at if you don't want to bike all the way here it's off of quivara way another fail on the hidden gems was paradise point now there's beautiful gazebos that you can hang out over there and overlook mission bay it's awesome but right now you can't enter unless you're staying there so instead i'm gonna substitute it with something i just discovered yesterday in encinitas it's this rock garden right by moonlight state beach very beautifully decorated rocks and yeah it's a really cool hidden gem so if you're up north in encinitas go check that out a little cactus garden welcome to our garden moonlight garden angel i even see a little santa claus santa claus roll [Music] welcome so that's really cool rock garden it is just off of b street and second so if y'alls are looking for it all right vacationers we're at cevita park here in mission valley and i want to show you guys a little hidden gem that gives you a beautiful view of mission valley and it's in the newer part up on the hill overlooking 805 mission valley and this is a mural inside this walking tunnel check this out this will be your last so it's pretty cool they have murals of lions and elephants phil mickelson ramona cyclist look at all that and you got tony guin got mariachi players all right guys and check out the view that this tunnel takes you to go out on this little walkway down to the stairwell check that out this is the savita area and mission valley beautiful sunset too if you come here at the right time and it's just right under this bridge all right guys now let's fast forward to tomorrow for the final hidden gem in san diego hi jk here so we've made it to the final hidden gem here in san diego and it is old poway park with this beautiful old-school railroad shout out to my cousin tina for tipping me off to this place she took her family pictures over here you can actually go on this railroad take pictures and it's just a beautiful area they have a lot of old school houses like the nelson house right in front of me at 1909 it just brings you back to an old west feel this is the pioneer sculpture richard [Music] becker all right jaycationer so that will do it for the 10 hidden gems around san diego and like i said obviously there are many hidden gems around san diego so this might be the first of a few and old poway park is a beautiful place to go if you want to take pictures and pretend like you're in the old west it's a little inland
