in this video i take you on the seven bridges urban hike tour around san diego next on jaycation [Music] hey what's up jaycationers welcome back to another video here in the san diego series it is sunny at 70 degrees here in the middle of january i thought it would be a perfect day to take you on blue flash so i'm technically not going on a hike i'm actually going on a little ride to the seven bridges of san diego that are all different and have their unique traits to it they're mainly walking bridges they're just really prominent here in san diego and i wanted to show you all seven of them we're actually here in the outskirts of the inez grant parker memorial rose garden and right behind me is the park boulevard bridge which is the first bridge of the seven in this popular seven bridges hike so we're gonna go in through the rose garden real quick show you a little bit of this desert trail that they have on this side of park boulevard which is beautiful and then go on our way through balboa park to the next bridge let's go jaycationers so we're here at the beautiful rose garden right now they're not in bloom last time we were here it was in bloom [Music] and this is actually the desert trail that i was talking about it's a cactus garden and it goes all the way down to this canyon and there's trails over there let's go across the bridge [Music] now we're here at balboa park at the famous fountains and the natural history museum there's the natural history museum for you and if you guys haven't seen my balboa park travel guide yet go check it out but we're just gonna roll right through it [Music] and of course they got the beautiful botanical garden right here and the lily pond all right jaycationers we are now here at the cabrillo bridge it is the first multi-arc bridge in san diego there used to be a pond down there and now it's the 163 freeway there's a little view of the beautiful downtown san diego skyline very popular bridge here get you to balboa park from the bankers hill area [Music] if you were watching a jaycation live stream in the past this right here is a dog park that overlooks the bridge and this is the view that you get when you either drive walk or take a skateboard or bike to the cabrillo bridge beautiful museum of us and that's the 163 passing through it north and south so this bridge became really infamous because a lot of people multiple people lost their lives by you know taking the leap so it's also tagged as that i know growing up people always termed it that and it just happened after 1915 when this was built for the california panama exposition and yeah it gave you a way to get to balboa park and cross the uh little pond over here it's not a pond anymore now it's a freeway all right guys on to bridge number three these are bridges that i've never explored on foot and over here at balboa park you got the old school trees the giant trees in this side of the park next to bankers hill currently we are on laurel street and six we're gonna take laurel street over to first avenue and hook a right and that's where our third bridge shall be directions are easy just go straight out of the cabrillo bridge and it turns into laurel street now you can kind of see a little bit of san diego bay towards the airport on this road you get a little bit of a downtown skyline and a plane crossing that way and now we are approaching first we're gonna hook a right on first avenue [Music] i can see the bridge up along the way right there and this right here is the first avenue bridge all right guys we are now crossing the first avenue bridge with the canyon and bankers hill on the right downtown and the bay to the left this is awesome usually when i pass by this you can't even tell it's really a bridge because you're just right on the street and there is your external view of this beautiful bridge so the first avenue bridge was actually built in 1931 in a midwestern fabrication plant it was built there disassembled shipped over to san diego where it was built right here on first avenue in 2010 they actually fixed it up to retrofit it for earthquakes this is also the only steel arch bridge in san diego oh crazy and if you look down there you can see people going on walks with their dogs so there's a trail down there next is bridge number four you go up first avenue for another block from the last bridge and you hook a right skateboard doesn't do well uphill we gonna make it are we gonna make it oh yeah we made it you know you're in the right area when you see the sign it'll tell you it's not a through street and i can see the stairway quince street bridge so right now we are on quint street and third ave this beautiful bridge behind me was built in 1905 over maple canyon and it's 60 feet above it and 236 feet uh to walk across this wooden bridge and they built it so people in this area can walk across to get to the trolley station across the way so it's a wooden bridge no way i'm using my skateboard over that so maybe we'll just walk over it and then walk back because the fifth bridge is actually on this side of the canyon and the directions say to just get back on first to get on the next bridge now we've made it over the bridge this is a free library right here at the end of the bridge where you can grab books there's also a little trail down here so people been taking their dogs for a walk going for runs but now you have to make your way down back the other way to get to the fifth bridge and you never even know it's here because it's in a non-through street so you'd never see it unless you either live here and pass by it check this out look at it that's amazing and that's the view you get on this side a view of maple canyon on the other with a nice little trail down below if you're finding value to this video so far please give it a like i'd really appreciate it and if you could subscribe and hit that notification bell i got tons of san diego content to come and i'd love you to join the jk next up is the most popular instagramable bridge which is the spruce street suspension bridge now you go back to the other side after the kin street bridge you come back where you came from and then you just hook a right onto 2nd avenue and then turn left onto spruce street [Music] right on to second avenue and look how beautiful some of these houses are these are old craftsmen style houses right here so happy for blue flash i don't think i could walk this hike right now look at that house right there wow this one's a mansion look at that manor right there all right jaycationers we have reached spruce street and second we're gonna go left [Music] working out crossing first avenue over here in spruce street still look at all the beautiful homes over here look at this wooden home approaching the spruce street suspension bridge now look at that guys no bottom this thing's just gonna sway all the way across no way i'm riding who flash across that all right jaycationers we're now here at the spruce street suspension bridge it was built in 1912 and it goes over does the name sound familiar kate sessions canyon that's right you heard the name kate sessions because she's prominent around san diego and there's a park over in pb called kate sessions park that overlooks a lot of beautiful parts of san diego but this is the suspension bridge there's no bottom to it guys this thing's gonna sway when i walk through it all right guys so here it is the most instagrammable suspension bridge so we are now crossing kate sessions canyon i've been to the park but never across the canyon and this bridge is swaying right now i can feel it sway and it's kind of trippy oh if you are afraid of heights you're probably not going to want to cross this bridge it also looks like there's a trail down there too look at that but yeah no way no way i'm skateboarding through this thing [Music] once you cross this bridge make an immediate right on branch street until you get to upus street and make your way up first avenue let's go [Music] and as you turn right on brant you really see these beautiful houses here huge houses i never knew even existed in this area wow so i believe you just go all the way to this dead end and you just force yourself a right on upa street very nice old school houses these ones are remodeled a bit and there we are oopas and branch street you see this beautiful blue house wow now that is an amazing home right there and upa street turns into albatross wow we are really in 1920s san diego right now so on albatross you will hook a right and then turn left on first avenue now this is front street first is next [Music] hook a left on first so the directions say we're pretty much gonna be on first and on university this is the farthest fan you're gonna go between bridges the fifth and the sixth bridge if you're going the route that i'm going [Music] we are now passing first and pennsylvania and look at this row of houses right here rose crest condominiums mixed in with these old school spots look at the elephant right there that is awesome down along the way you see a helicopter landing because the hospital the hillcrest ucsd hospital is over here in the current state of physical weakness right now definitely can't walk this but skateboard most definitely i just hooked her right onto university and now we're in the heart of hillcrest [Music] and there's a mask mural right there this is the lgbtq community of san diego and the beautiful hillcrest sign is just along the way next to the golden dragon which is a popular spot around here usually difficult to find parking here but there are a lot of great spots in hillcrest to check out [Music] saigon on fifth had many late nights for there after partying after partying downtown if you're in asian food fifth avenue and university we're now on the bike lane and we're just following this all the way to the next bridge we're gonna hook a left eventually where there's a trader joe's and if you want to take a break uncle biffs and oscars is right along the way right there fast forward to jj taking a break with his cookie post ride all right jay gatiner as we made it back home we're gonna try uncle bipp's california killer cookies this is one of my favorite cookie spots in all of san diego their chocolate chip is on point and they're super nice over there really welcoming i just got two cookies i got some caramel one and then i also got the peanut butter chocolate chip check this out let's try out uncle bib's cookies i want to try out the caramel one first oh man you know this would be really good if i heated it up michael all right we put it in the microwave for like 10 seconds hmm that's a good cookie they just do chocolate chip right here at uncle bib's and next door is oscar seafood so i had that for lunch today so it's a great combo let's try the chocolate chip uh peanut butter peanut butter is not too strong you can taste it there i'm telling you though the chocolate chip they do here amazing thumbs up for uncle biff's so if you're going on to seven bridges hike and you're on university and you want to take a little break oscars uncle biff's menu ultra they're all right next to each other there's a menia ultra that's going to open eventually here menya has some of the best ramen in san diego [Music] alright so this is the longest stretch here on university we gotta get over to vermont street and then hook a left to get to the next bridge now we're crossing over the 163. this is a bridge but they don't consider it part of the tour so as you make your way up university towards vermont street make sure you're all hydrated because it is the longest length from one bridge to the other on this hike once you hit university in vermont you're going to want to hook a left and when you see the trader joe's and ralph shopping centers you know you're nearby the vermont street bridge was built in 1995 to replace an old wooden trestle bridge that dated back to 1916. now on this bridge they have a ton of inspirational quotes crossing over to university heights this says happiness and health are coming your way must be sponsored by the pecking noodle company favor the walking stick of experience over the speeding cart of fortune the philosopher travels on foot well i'm not a philosopher i guess this is definitely sponsored by the picking noodle company look at that [Music] you must do the thing that you think you cannot do eleanor roosevelt this bridge actually takes you over washington street and the entrance to the 163. well we passed a few but let's read one more before we go with lively feelings may i walk being as it used to be long ago may i walk navajo chance what idol or significant sentence will we write with brick and stone wood and concrete upon the sensitive edge of the earth irving gill huh so that's the vermont street bridge and over on the university side poetry is not only dream and vision it is the skeleton architecture of our lives it lays the foundations for a future of change a bridge across our fears of what has never been before audrey lord all right now here are the beautiful craftsman style houses people walking through these alleys but here's you saw this a few weeks ago on university heights jaycation to this place so to get to the seventh and final bridge i'm supposed to turn right on lincoln lincoln and vermont i'm going right on lincoln and then i have to turn another right on georgia as we continue on with the tour of these beautiful craftsman style homes [Music] now the question is will blue flash make it all the way to my car let's hope so guys i might have to speed this up a bit so these streets are all named after presidents johnson avenue and lincoln we're in maryland street here i gotta keep going until i hit georgia joja joja yep that's what we're hitting next all right now we're crossing washington street pretty long pedestrian crosswalk here and we're going to continue on the way to georgia look at this old school great maple dinette and this is one of the dmv locations of san diego the lines there are crazy this right here is normal street trying not to get ran over pass in this church saint john the evangelist parish hall now i'm on the sidewalk just to be safe i don't want to get ran over [Music] this is park boulevard now i gotta check my phone real quick all right guys so we are heading the right way thank god we're almost there there it is georgia street and lincoln finally all right i see the bridge it's a really short bridge i believe this is the shortest bridge but it's also a landmark a historical landmark here in san diego so this is coming up right here you can see it already right behind me is the seventh and final bridge this is the georgia street bridge and it was built in 1914 and retrofitted years back and it connects hillcrest and north park now it's one of the shorter bridges it goes right over university avenue just down the street is the friendly tavern i did a video on that go check that out now we're going to cross the georgia street bridge and hope i have enough battery to get back to balboa park and this is the shortest of the bridges university ave going towards hillcrest and you got north park along the way there's even a walking path to get you down over on university pretty steep [Music] all right well one and a half bars get me back to the car fingers crossed and looks like there's a tow truck here look in the tow cars angelo's towing you don't want that now there are more condominiums around this way hooking her right on robinson and told me to take a left on crest road through this alley so why not so crestwood is this little alleyway right here you can find some hidden houses over here that's what the bike lane says to take [Music] this is definitely a lot safer than being on park boulevard where the bike lane goes in and out now we just hook the right and we gotta get back on the park now another nice church we're passing by we have now got in on park and safely on the bike lane and i just follow this all the way to the natural history museum you can see the planes from a distance we're going to pass by morley field to our left the zoo entrance then we're going to finish this video off super bumpy road here [Music] down along the way is morley field and that desert trail is coming up where the rose garden's at so we're getting there guys still about one and a half bars left and sadly the parking lot to the san diego zoo is an empty one all right i can see the first bridge along the way we're almost there guys and now we have made it to the san diego zoo finally here at the zoo entrance parking lot unfortunately it's closed hopefully it goes back open again and just recently a bunch of gorillas just tested positive for the virus unfortunately they are said that a zookeeper transmitted it to them so that's unfortunate but hopefully the zoo gets back to normal business later in the year right along the way right there is the balboa carousel and the rose garden the park avenue bridge there it is we've made it all right jk news that will do it for this fun seven bridges hike right behind me is the san diego natural history museum in balboa park we got through all seven bridges i hope you like the informational guide throughout this part of san diego and if you did please give it a like and if you're just discovering my channel for the first time i do a ton
