hi everybody and welcome along to my draw along with me today we're going to draw this lighthouse design where i hope to demonstrate some of the tools that procreate has to offer if you're new to procreate i'm going to leave a link in the description to a video from another creator who has brilliantly outlined all the tools the sections of procreate and a few hints and tips and tricks that will help you get started but today's video is a draw along where i feel the best way you can learn how to use procreate is to use it and to create something together so today's video we're going to create this design from scratch and i will hopefully help and educate you in procreate so let's get started by creating a new canvas and come up to the plus icon in the top right hand corner and when you tap on that we're gonna hit this icon here and you can create a new custom canvas so my dimensions for this video will be 2 500 pixels and 2 500 pixels if you set your dpi to 300 that's a high quality image meaning if you want to get it printed at any point it will be in a good enough quality that it won't come out blurry when you print it at the other end changing your dpi though does affect how many layers you can have so we can only have 81 in here which is more than enough for what we're going to do today but just bear that in mind when you set your dpi so you're going to hit create and that'll take us through to our canvas so to start with the canvas will be white and what we can do is if we go to our layers and go to the background color you can change that at the very bottom layer so we're going to change that to this dark purple i'm going to pop a link to the palette which will be down in the description if you want to download that and install it you can use the exact same colors that i'm going to use in this video so we're going to select this dark purple on the right hand side and that'll be our base color for the design we're then going to go to our layers at the top right hand corner and we've already got an empty layer ready to go so we're going to come to our picker tool and then we're going to go to disk and we're going to pick white a quick easy tip here if you want to select white if you double tap in the top left hand corner it will take you straight to the perfect white color and likewise if you double tap at the bottom it will take you straight to the perfect black color so if we double tap at the top we've now got white selected and we're going to go to our brushes i'm going to go to the calligraphy section and we're going to choose the monoline brush i use this brush all the time to create my shapes we're now going to start by drawing a circle which will be the base of our image and don't worry you don't have to draw a perfect circle procreate can help you with the tools that are available so if we draw a circle now and then link up at the very end you can see that wasn't a perfect circle at all but if i hold down it then creates a perfectly rounded shape and then you can see that this is actually an oval at this point but if i put my finger on the screen it will create a perfect circle and you can drag your brush up and down depending on how big or how small you want the image so we're going to let go and that creates the shape then going to come up to our palette tool and rather than color this in procreate allows you to simply drag and fill the shape in one go we're now going to come up to our layers and we're going to create a new layer on top of that one for this we are going to select a color that we can visually see because in a moment we'll change that color so for the moment i'm just going to pick any light purple so i can see the shape that i'm about to draw and explain to you how that works we're now going to create our rocky terrain which the lighthouse is planted on so we're just going to come from the left-hand side i'm going to create some rocky terrain and then we're going to come all the way back around and we're going to link up to the first point that we started with i'm going to drag our color and fill in the space but now we want to clip this new layer to the circle layer underneath so we're going to come to our layers we're going to tap on layer 2 and we're going to tap on clipping mask doing so crops this image above just to the space of the pixels in the image below and you can see now we've got it now nicely fits in with the circle and now we can change it to the desired color that we want now that we've done that just for demonstration purposes we're going to drag in our dark purple and that nicely now fills in and blends into the outer circle the next tool that we're going to use is the drawing guide so if we go up to our settings and actions tab and then we're going to go to canvas we're then going to turn on the drawing guide and then we're going to edit the drawing guide the drawing guide's there to give you some help whether or not you need a grid an isometric grid a perspective grid but what we're going to use is the symmetry tool here this is really powerful if you want to create an image that's even on either side so i'm going to hit done doing so now we now have a vertical line straight down the middle which is our symmetry line we're now going to come to our layers we're going to create a new layer and we are going to tap on the layer and turn on the drawing assist the drawing assist only applies to any layer that's got assisted underneath if you don't have assisted you're just using a normal layer now we're going to come to our brush we're going to use the monoline brush again i'm going to make this a little bit smaller this time probably down to about 18 anything that we draw on either side of the line will also be reflected on the other side so for example if i draw a squiggly line on the right hand side you can see it perfectly matches it up on the opposite side of the line this is what we're going to use to create our lighthouse because i've drawn this anytime you make a mistake in procreate it's really simple to undo just tap with two fingers and it will undo the previous action and if you'd like to redo the action just tap with three fingers and it will bring the object back in we're now gonna draw our lighthouse design for this i'm gonna choose the same random light purple option so you can see the shape that i'm drawing and then we'll fill it in later on with the darker purple for this we're going to go to our layers and i've created a new layer and turned on drawing assist to do this simply tap on the layer and tap on drawing assist this means that this particular layer will use the drawing assist that we've added onto the page and now we will start with our vertical line of the lighthouse for this you can see now the symmetry is there and if i hold down my pen at the end my squiggly line has now been made into a nice straight line and i'm just gonna create my lighthouse probably like that and then we're gonna link this shape together so we can quickly fill it in in a moment so for this i'm going to zoom in and i'm going to grab this point here don't worry for this particular line to be straight because we're not going to see this i've just joined it together i'm going to zoom up to the top of the lighthouse and we're going to bring this one together as well so from here i'm just going to come across meet in the middle and hold our pen down to create a perfectly straight line i'm going to drag that color into the space and now we've got the base for our lighthouse now we're going to come to our layers and we're going to push this layer behind the rocky terrain that we've got which will then hide the base of it we're not going to fill that in as well with the dark purple that we previously created we're now going to get started on the tip of our lighthouse so just going to create some vertical lines that will create the housing for the light and again pop your finger on the screen and create a nice vertical line i'm going to join those lines together in the middle and hold your finger down and your pen to create a nice horizontal line as well now i'm going to create the tip of the lighthouse which we're going to start from this point here so from here we are just going to simply drag our line up hold our pen down and just position it how we want it i'm going to bring it down a little bit and drop that there i'm gonna drag our color in and we're gonna fill that space i'm now gonna change the shape of this by adding a horizontal line which will meet in the middle hold our finger down to create a straight line and let go and fill that in so now we're going to create some windows for the actual light of the lighthouse so we're going to go to our pen tool our monoline brush size and drop that down to about six percent and we're just going to create some vertical lines and hold our pen and finger down to create some nice vertical shapes in there we're now going to create the actual shape of the light in the middle so we're going to create um a horizontal line and again hold your finger down to create a perfect one i'm going to bring that down and i'm happy for it to be slightly off on the sides and grab our pen and bring that in and then we're going to create just the sort of stand that that will sit on and then if we zoom out with two fingers you can see we've now got the structure of our lighthouse ready to go so we are now going to create the night sky constellation in the background i'm going to go to our layers we're going to create a layer between the lighthouse and the backdrop i'm gonna add a new layer and then from the color palette we're gonna select the fourth color in the palette and we're gonna go to our brushes we're gonna go to the airbrush category and we're going to select the soft brush i'm going to make that quite large about 55 50 and we're just going to simply paint in the backdrop this is the base color for our sky which we're now gonna then come to our colors and select the bright pink and then depending on how hard or how softly you press on the screen um you'll be able to build up the glow you can see if i do it lightly it will create a nice soft glow if i press really hard it will go straight to full opacity so i'm going to slowly build up in a circular motion the glow of the pink in the background until it looks something like that and i'm actually just going to add one very soft circular stroke towards the edge we're then going to go to our layers and we're going to create another new layer above the sky that we just created and we're going to double tap in the top left-hand corner to select the white color we're now going to create the stars by going to the calligraphy section selecting monoline and we're going to drag our brush all the way down to the bottom and from here we are going to tap on the screen very randomly to create our night sky be careful with the monoline brush not to place and drag otherwise you'll create a little line such as that you want to make sure you are tapping on the screen to create your stars [Music] and you can place these however you want it's your drawing there are no rules when it's your own now these stars are going to actually act now as the backdrop for the stars we're going to go to our layer i'm going to tap on the n for normal and then we are going to lower the opacity down until they're a lot more faint which means that they are further away and this will be the backdrop of the stars because we're going to create another new layer and create some more so from here we're going to tap on the plus and we're going to do the same thing again but these ones that we tap on now will be the brighter whiter stars and we won't dull these ones down these ones will stay completely white so we've got some nice contrast between the two you can make your brush slightly bigger as well maybe up to four or five percent and create some bigger stars again for some more contrast between the ones sitting in the background perfect so now we've got our night sky and we're now going to add another new layer and we're going to create our moon so with the monoline brush again i'm going to make my brush slightly bigger so you can see and we're going to draw a circle again link up your shape at the top and hold your finger down and it will create a perfect circle that's about right for size and we're going to drag in our white color into the moon and we're going to drag this now up to the sort of top right hand side and you can see because this layer is still clipped to the layer underneath you cannot drag the shape outside of that shape um everything is hidden that goes beyond it it's clipped quite literally to the layers below so we're gonna tap on our cursor tool to drop that and now we're going to create the glow for the moon so we're going to go to our layers i'm going to duplicate that layer and on the layer below typically you want your glow to be behind the original object so we're going to tap on the second layer out the two we are going to go to our adjustments we're going to select gaussian blur and i'm going to select layer and from here you can drag from left to right which will go from zero to percent so if i pop my pen down you can see the blur of that layer gets more intense as you go along but we're gonna leave it about thirty percent which will be a nice glow directly from behind the moon we're now going to create the beams of light that will come from the lighthouse so we're going to go to our layers we're going to create a new layer between the lighthouse and the moon layer i'm going to come across i'm going to reduce our brush back down to about 10 and if i zoom in we're going to create a diagonal sort of line from that light box all the way across hold your pen down again to create a perfect line i'm just going to drag it into position and about there is perfect so i now want this line to be reflected at the top at the exact same angle so we are going to go to our layers we're going to duplicate that layer we're then going to come to our cursor tool at the top and we're going to flip this one vertically and then what you can do is with your pen and drag that layer up until this bottom right hand corner meets up i'm gonna tap on the cursor to let go and you see now they come from the same point but we want to merge those two layers together because we can't fill that layer in right now so we're gonna go to our layers and to bring two layers into one you simply just pinch and you can see now on that layer they're now together and from here as we've done before we're going to use our brush to just link up the shape and drag the color in so we've got a perfect beam from the lighthouse we now want to create the exact same beam but on the other side of the lighthouse so in a similar fashion we're going to go to our layers we're going to duplicate that layer and then we're going to come to our cursor tool at the top and we're going to flip this one horizontally at the bottom here and simply drag that layer across so that the beam of light is going out of the box perfectly and we're going to let go of that by tapping on the cursor tool and exactly the same i want to merge these two layers together so that our beams of light are on the same layer so we're going to pinch from our layers those two options together and they now sit on one layer now these beams of light right now are too bright so we're going to again come to our layers we're going to tap on the normal icon i'm going to drag our opacity down now i'm going to make this about 15 because we're going to build that up in a moment and if we let go you can see now that they're nice and transparent letting some of that purple and pink through as well as the moon in behind as well so now we're going to go to our layers we're going to duplicate that layer again and for this we're going to tap on the layer and we're going to go to drawing assist because we still have the symmetry line in action on the canvas ready for any layers that are assisted because what we're going to do now is we're going to grab the eraser tool on a soft brush around about 30 and we're actually going to erase the outside here which i want perfectly to be reflected on the other side and by doing so just like that you can see the light source starts to get stronger closer to the lighthouse we're actually going to do the same for the layer below that as well so we're going to go back to this layer underneath and we're gonna turn on the drawing assist and from here i'm just gonna erase ever so lightly the outside edge of that beam so it's stronger in the middle of the lighthouse and fades away towards the end so that's it for the beams of light we're now going to move on to the final part which is the misty effect towards the bottom here so we're going to go to our layers but we want to position this layer in the right spot so we don't want it to be in front of the lighthouse and we don't want it to be behind the background so we're going to add a new layer probably just above our moon layer here and then we're going to go to our brush gonna select the monoline brush and we are gonna start on that layer with some nice squiggly lines so this line now sits in behind here on the lighthouse and i'm just gonna bring it all the way around and link it up so our shape actually now goes beyond the limits of the original circle at the bottom but because i've linked it together i can still drag that in and fill in the color if you're not confident going beyond the limits you can simply grab your brush and fill in along the line so you can visually see your shape and then the gap in the middle that you want to fill in with the color tool there so for this layer we're going to drop that down to 10 and that's the first layer of our sort of misty effect towards the bottom we're then going to go to our layers we're going to create a new layer and we're going to do exactly the same thing but we're going to go a bit higher and a bit further across this time i'm going to get behind the lighthouse and just into the rocks and again you can draw all the way along the line if you wish if it makes it easier and just make sure that they all link up and you can drag that color in because this layer is sitting behind our lighthouse and again i'm going to go to the layer i'm going to drop this one down to 10 again and we are going to create one more final layer and exactly the same but slightly higher and slightly further across one more time so we are going to go from the top and get a little bit higher this time some sort of bigger curves and again i'm going to go around the outside here i've still got my brush selected as you can see linked up the shape and i'm going to drag that in and then this one we're going to go to our layers and we're going to drop this one down to 10 again and we now have the final variation of the mist and because these are all set to 10 this one that we originally set is actually now at 30 because you've got a layer above it and a layer above that both at 10 so they add up to 30. this layer is now 20 and this layer that we created at the end is 10 you can see you've got a nice graduation of the different color strengths and as a final last touch we are going to add in a shooting star into the sky so we can create this layer we will pop it above our misty layers and behind our glows from the lighthouse for this one you're going to go to your brush library go to calligraphy and you're going to go down to the script brush and we're going to create that script brush about nine percent and we're going to quickly make a quick dashing line across the screen i might make that slightly larger about 18 and do a dashing line across the screen and then all you're going to do to create that into a shooting star is go to the eraser and you're going to go to airbrush select the airbrush the soft airbrush and just fade in again in a circular motion just the tail of the shooting stars line and then with two fingers we can pinch out and we have our final product that's it guys so thank you if you followed along from start to finish make sure you send me your creations
