EXPECTS TO SCREEN ABOUT 33,000 PASSENGERS A DAY THIS HOLIDAY WEEKEND AND ONE OF THE REASONS YOU ARE URGED TO GET TO THE AIRPORT TWO HOURS BEFORE YOUR DOMESTIC FLIGHT IS NOT JUST BECAUSE SECURITY CHECKPOINTS, BUT BECAUSE THE ROADS AND THE PARKING LOTS AROUND THE AIRPORT ARE EXPECTED TO BE MUCH EASIER THAN USUAL, AS WELL. REPORTING FROM BWI THURGOOD MARSHALL, I'M PAUL GESSLER FOR WJZ. >>> IT'S NOT JUST CRUISE LINES RETURNING TO THE PORTS, BUT THE FEDERAL CHANNEL EXPANDING OPERATIONS AT THE PORT OF BALTIMORE ARE RENTING BACKUP AND THAT'S GOOD NEWS FOR PORT WORKERS. MORE THAN 30 VESSELS AND BARGES ARE DUE INTO THE PORTS'S PUBLIC TERMINALS OVER THE NEXT WEEK. TONIGHT WE ARE IN YOUR CORNER WITH CLOSE-UP ACCESS TO THE SALVAGE OPERATION AT THE SITE OF THE KEY BRIDGE COLLAPSE. IT COMES DURING WHAT HAS BEEN A REMARKABLE WEEK OF PROGRESS IN THE RECOVERY, INCLUDING THE SUCCESSFUL REFLECTING OF THE DALI. WJZ INVESTIGATOR MIKE HELLGREN IS LIVE AT PORT COVINGTON AND MIKE WAS ON THE WATER AGAIN TODAY AND VERY CLOSE THIS TIME. WHAT DID YOU SEE? >> DENISE, WE WERE ON A VOTE FOR SOME THREE HOURS THANKS TO THE CORE AND THE UNIFIED COMMAND. WE SAW ONE 200 TON PIECE OF THE KEY BRIDGE OVER AT SPARROWS POINT AND THERE ARE STILL SOME BIG PIECES OF THE BRIDGE IN THE WATER, AND BEHIND ME, SOMETHING THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE EXCITED TO SEE -- THE VISION OF THE SEAS, THE CRUISE SHIP FROM ROYAL CARIBBEAN, HAS RETURNED TO THE CRUISE TERMINAL. >> Reporter: YOU'RE LOOKING AT THE FEDERAL CHANNEL, WHERE THE KEY BRIDGE ONCE STOOD. THE ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS TAKING US ALONG THE PATH OF BALTIMORE'S BIGGEST MARITIME DISASTER FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE THE DALI WAS REFLECTED AND GIVEN US A CLOSE-UP VIEW OF THE CONTINUING SALVAGE WORK TO REMOVE DEBRIS. HERE IS HOW COLONEL CHAISSON WITH UNIFIED COMMAND DESCRIBES IT. >> IT'S BASICALLY METAL DETECTING ON STEROIDS WITH A MAGNETOMETER TO GO DOWN BELOW AND MAKE SURE THAT WE DON'T LEAVE ANYTHING BEHIND THAT WE'LL HAVE TO DEAL WITH LATER. >> Reporter: ONE OF THE BIGGEST CHALLENGES IS REMOVING THE PIECES OF KEY BRIDGE STEEL THAT ARE BELOW THE WATERLINE AND YOU CAN SEE THEY ARE STILL STICKING OUT THERE FROM THE PATAPSCO RIVER. >> AT FIRST IT WAS LAYING UP AND OVER THE DALI AND AS IT SANK DOWN WE HAD A WHOLE NEW PROBLEM SET THAT WE HAD TO REANALYZE. >> Reporter: THOSE BIG SUPPORT COLUMNS FOR WHAT WAS THE KEY BRIDGE ARE GOING TO BE REMOVED LATER ON BY THE STATE OF MARYLAND AS THEY PREPARE TO BUILD THE NEW BRIDGE. >> Reporter: THE REOPENING OF THE FULL 700 FOOT WIDE CHANNEL HAS BEEN PUSHED BACK ABOUT A WEEK TO JUNE 8-10. >> THEY'RE GOING TO LOWER THE DIAMOND WIRE SOFTWARE DIVERS ARE GOING TO GUIDE IT INTO PLACE. THE DIVERS GO BACK UP AND THEN THEY'RE GOING TO CUT THROUGH THAT BOTTOM CORE TO SEPARATE THESE LARGE SECTIONS. >> Reporter: HERE'S A VIEW OF THE SALVAGE OPERATION AT SPARROWS POINT, WITH CHESSIE, THE BIGGEST CRANE HERE, YOU SEE A 200 TON SECTION OF THE KEY BRIDGE THAT WAS JUST REMOVED FROM THE WATER. >> YOU HAVE AN ENORMOUS AMOUNT OF WRECKAGE THAT'S NO LONGER HERE, THAT'S BEEN DOWNSIZED THAT THE SALVAGE YARD AT SPARROWS POINT AND YOU HAVE THE VESSEL WHICH IS NOW SITTING AT THE TERMINAL. >> Reporter: ANOTHER SHIP, THE ROYAL CARIBBEAN VISION OF THE SEAS, IS NOW DOCKED IN BALTIMORE'S CRUISE TERMINAL, THE FIRST ONE HERE IN MONTH. JUST ANOTHER SIGN OF THE SWIFT PROGRESS MORE THAN TWO MONTHS SINCE THE TRAGEDY. >> OUR OVERARCHING GOAL HAS ALWAYS BEEN TO RESTORE CAPACITY TO THE PORT OF BALTIMORE, MEANING BRING IN THE VESSELS THAT WE'VE ALWAYS BROUGHT IN, THE LARGEST VESSELS. THAT'S WHAT WE WEREN'T ABLE TO DO. >> THE VISION OF THE SEAS HERE BEHIND ME EMBARKS TOMORROW, THEN THE CARNIVAL PRID
