it's been said that Donald Trump is a gift from the comedy gods but is there a danger in making fun of him too much we'll talk about that and more with the great Jim Jeffries host of the Jim Jefferies show on Comedy Central on this edition actual news Club these are the little things in life that the Bible will not teach you when you get married always put the house in your name very important many features will tell you if you put your mind to it you can achieve anything that's what they call a lie many of you will never achieve greatness because greatness isn't inside you success will not make you happy I'm very successful and our miserable welcome to politicking I'm Larry King that was a clip from the Jim Jefferies show on Comedy Central Jim is an Australian comedian actor and writer who takes on American culture religion politics and more in his program and it's a pleasure to welcome him to our studio okay Jim first is there comedy in everything is there any topic to you off-limits no I don't believe that there's any topic that's off-limits but you do have to be definitely careful with certain topics and I believe the more risky the topic the funny of the joke has to be you can't tiptoe around if you do a joke about cancer or something it's got to be real funny joke about cancer it better be you better be killing because otherwise it's just offensive how do you consider it when you touch touchy subjects I go into it with the idea that you know it's like being an athlete you're not gonna you know you're not gonna be home run every time you know so if you make a mistake you had a go I I don't believe in ever apologizing for a joke I feel like that's the wrong way to go but sometimes you have to say yeah I misfired on that one but you have to take a shot at it so yeah more offensive the better I don't know if I answered that question either are we too sensitive now you know I believe we're too sensitive I believe we're just as sensitive as we've always been it's just that everyone now gets the voice and opinion it used to be before the internet you are offended by a joke and UNR that takes offense if i won't watch that guy again and there you go what was upset because of this joke really yeah that's the only difference we've always been this sensitive and everybody's a blogger everybody's in rapport everyone's a blogger everyone's opinion matters and everyone's it gets to voice it and yes no I what I do is I don't read the internet anymore I just stay away from that yeah I don't look at the comments because if you look at the comments that will drive you insane well you said that Donald Trump's actions breed hate in America yes would you break that down for me I believe travel bans aren't going to make people not get into our country it's kind of radicalize people who are already here you know if you're a young Muslim boy or girl and you you felt like your American your whole life and then the the president's telling you that people like you should be in a register or should be banned from coming into the country how quickly can that breed hate how do you explain that apparently thirty five percent of America yeah okay well he once said I could shoot someone on Fifth Avenue yeah still go with it yeah it's it that's bizarre what does it say about us well it says that there's a lot of hate out there you know I mean it's not bringing people together it's it's dividing it's like I'll give you an example at the moment in Australia they're voting on gay marriage and a few gay friends of mine I've been speaking to an Australia said it's actually made things worse because they thought that everyone was tolerant of them they felt like there weren't that many homophone favored over yeah but now there's a vote and people started protesting now they go wow a lot of people don't like us and so the whole thing that we thought maybe there wasn't that much racism in America and then Trump in my mind is given these people a voice where they can light up their tiki torch and start marching where before these people were in the was it with their racism or their homophobia or whatever it's bringing the worst out in people and in Australia was that surprising to you it's very surprising to me I don't know by now they've actually solved the vote I always thought that Australia was an extraordinarily gay tolerant society the Sydney that I grew up in is like San Francisco as a it's a real gay city and yeah I didn't know that so many people were angry about that yeah I think that people gay people being married is a no-brainer I think that's just the easiest thing in the world like who cares if you don't want to if you don't agree with gay marriage don't marry a gay person that's the easiest thing you stick with heterosexual marriage you'll be fine can you overdo Trump on TV 100% every day when we go into the writers room for the show and there's Trump jokes if they're not necessary I don't want them because we can just sit there bashing Trump all day all day all day and that will actually alienate people even more you know so they'll feel set upon so you try to do but then people go why don't you make more Hillary jokes and it's like well she didn't win so so if she won I'd be making a lot more hillary jokes you know and I'm sure that comics in the 90s had a field day with Bill Clinton but I wasn't a comic during the 90s do you think when you kid someone a lot yeah it almost becomes he becomes less threatening in a way I think it desensitizes it completely I think if you you make him out to be a bit more of a joke the jokes that I don't like about Trump is when people just go he has a comb-over and his skins orange and he eats too much fried chickens that's not any he likes a well-done steak and it's like oh who cares you know it was like George Bush used to fumble on words and whatever I like the jokes about his policy or the jokes about mistakes that he's made or the jokes about how have we gotten to this point and that's what turns me on a lot more than just the obvious Oh him in his wife aren't getting along something I still don't know I know Donald 35 years I was part of that roast on Comedy Central right Donald I don't know if I don't know if he has a sense of humor you never seem laugh like he starts to laugh he gets to a point where he's like might laugh and he you might sometimes you say small where he goes but he never actually laughs I've never seen him belly laugh but you think he would have a sense of humor he's got it but is he that self knowing didn't laugh at his roast he didn't know why did you think Melania has a sense of you and what do you think she has to have us um I think Melania probably does have a sense of humor she has to write she's been put in a position that I don't think she ever imagined she'd be put in I went and visited the town that she was born for the show I went visited yeah it's like just a whole lot of people were just like she was the nicest girl in school ever she was very sweat sweet no one had a bad word to say about her so I don't know I think she's probably all right Dinah or she's very nice yeah your show takes on culture and politics give me an example of like religion okay well as I said we did just did a field piece on The Good News Club and I'm an atheist I used to be a militant atheist in my day yes I used to be an atheist that tried to convert people to atheism and I thought it was important religion to that and then I realized I was as bad as any religion I was in the same boat I was trying to push my beliefs under people look I don't believe there's a god there's no one's gonna convince me that there's a God in the same way that I'm not gonna be able to convince then there isn't a god you know as for doing jokes and stuff look part of my atheism came from watching George Carlin he wasn't the reason I became an atheist but he was the last little push and it was humor that actually brought me over the line on that and you know if I can joke about there not being a god or whatever or forgot a party question whatever I said all religious people they they hate the George Carlin's they had Bill Maher I think they do but how weird is it to hate an atheist though why hate an atheist someone who believes in nothing I hate that I hate that whole theory that people have when they start going well if you're an atheist why don't you just write people why don't you kill why don't you just cause I'm not a rapist and I'm not a murderer and I believe in being good to people that's why I don't do it I don't do it because religion gives me this punishment that if I'm a bad person I go to hell but if I'm a good person I go to heaven I like the idea for me is if there was a God let's say there is a good god there's no doubt about it there's a God and he created everything but there's no heaven would you still worship Him if there was no prize at the end and the fact is you probably should he created everything but probably people wouldn't is there hypocrisy in atheism I think there's Apocrypha when people start preaching it too much or I started performing at a lot of religious atheist conventions there's anything is converted several of them I waited several um they were paying me like thirty forty thousand dollars to do a 10-minute set and I was starting to think like this money's so good that even if I find God I want to admit it like like and the weird thing about all these professors and the Richard Dawkins and all these type of people they don't half dress like God they're always got long white hair and a white beard and they're like there's no God and then they're getting a bit preachy I think many atheists have a god complex about themselves we are now going to show you a clip from the Jim Jefferies show watch everyone knows the big corporations love marketing to kids and the younger the better you want to get kids when they're young we want to get them having some kind of emotional feeling about the brand and one of the most powerful groups targeting kids isn't a corporation it's religion the church is losing market share because Millennials aren't showing up so Christians are going after the next generation of kids evangelical Christian groups operate programs inside public schools across the u.s. for kids as young as five and the biggest groups is called the Good News Club I met with Reverend Brian Graham to discuss it where is this guy just some Amish farm hand to make sure he's legit I drilled him on the basis do you believe that Jesus will come back to visit us he's going to return and that's that will be the end do you believe that all animals come from two animals being on a boat yes yes he says he is God has a penis right well yeah it doesn't in the sense of Jesus Christ but Jesus definitely had a penis dipper's well you would all talk like that does it just constantly talking about genitals and everything and saying I am Who I am I am what God made me young man how did he take that I don't know how he took it afterwards I seen the clip and he know I actually got along with him pretty well we got along with him fine he was all right we didn't agree on everything he's a fire back time you see yes of course they all are that's what happens is you find God after your career goes in the in the hole you know right like is it true that you also talk about an after school Satan Club well that's the thing is that after school siting class at the moment the Christians have a group called the Good News Club and they have 3,800 things there's an after-school thing for parents who can't pick their kids up in time and it just teaches them about hell and damnation and all that type of stuff and so an atheist group they started up a club called the after-school Satan's Club that's meant to teach critical thinking and science and all these wonderful things but then they call it the after-school Satan Club they just got terrible marketing so they like like I wouldn't send my kid to the after-school Satan Club and they're like like we don't believe in Satan okay well why don't you just caught the unicorns Club you know I don't believe in unicorns either I've heard of them and they just they just print Aryans they're just trying to say yeah Gazette okay sorry this is not a solution yeah they're just trying to be the opposite or whatever the Christians are and that's the biggest problem with ID ISM or religion or politics or anything it's that it's just people voting opposite stay right there we'll be right back with more of Jim Jefferies on this edition of politicking don't go away [Music] [Music] you you hello kids welcome to the Jim Jefferies actual news Club these are the little things in life that the Bible will not teach you when you get married always put the house in your name very important many features will tell you if you put your mind to it you can achieve anything that's what they call a lie many of you will never achieve greatness because greatness isn't inside you success will not make you happy I'm very successful and our miserable after school class you can swear all you want there was another clip from the Jim Jefferies show it airs on Comedy Central and I'm that the host guess what Jim Jefferies is the host of the Jim Jefferies I did that so I couldn't get fired that was my big thing they can't they can't fire me up this shocking now let me keep my another topic you addressed in your show is America's opioid epidemic and the Trump administration's unwillingness to care about any more money into it just calling it a national emergency isn't doing anything look just coming from different cultures living in Australia than living in Britain when I talk about a drug addict in Australia it's someone with a needle in their arm or in Britain at some Coquette or whatever but over here it seems that everyone's got oxycottons and stuff now fentanyl that you can just spray into your mouth it just seems ridiculous to me but it seems common every every girl I date is falling asleep taking a xanax you know I mean you shouldn't have these pills all the time they shouldn't be why are they popular well one that pain killers obviously I think it's because you don't have socialized medicine I believe that doctors are paid the kickbacks from for that big pharma and so they just prescribe things and you pay for your medication if the government was paying for our medications I'm sure they would limit the medications we could be getting excellent point you take on the NRA and gun control yeah what is the situation by the way in Australia with Australia I might get the year wrong I think was about 1996 we had the biggest mass shooting in the world import after in Tasmania within months they ban guns in Australia you could sell him if you're a farmer or what have you and we didn't we haven't had a mass shooting since and so Australia is always used as that example where gun control actually worked and so when you see Las Vegas and that shooter and you watch the news and there's people going well gun control couldn't have stopped this well of course it could have no one needs 40-something guns just say everyone can have five five is a lot striving fives is good but they should be registered no one needs millions of rounds of ammunition a sniper rifle is not for protection if you want to use this argument of protection that's complete rubbish no one's ever looked through a sniper sight as someone two miles away and thought that guys coming from my family I better stop them I better stop them before they get too close back down you know there's also this whole the the the right to bear arms and people going if they bring in one bit of gun control not bringing so much gun control but there's already bits of gun control we have you can't put a bayonet on the end of your gun because that makes you gun too scary you can't do that you can't open carry it's not just arms or weapons right you can't open carry a chainsaw you know like if you walk into it into a target with a chainsaw someone would ask a question go what are you doing and you can't go oh this is my protection chainsaw this is different you'll be happy if a bad guy comes in with a chainsaw because I'm a a good guy with a chainsaw can stop a bad guy with a chainsaw Australia has no gun well farmers have them and you can still go and shoot gun ranges and stuff like that but people can't have them in their houses no people don't have them anymore anymore but even before 96 97 people weren't excited by guns Americans love guns with the West yeah we had them but no one had ever bragged about their gun collection as far as I can recall anyway recently on your show you address the Harvey Weinstein scam yeah you admitted to occasionally saying sexist jokes yes you have to do better yes what do you make of all of this I believe we've got more names that are going to be coming out in the next couple of weeks there's been some articles today that have come out about another director I I don't think that this situation is just in Hollywood I think it's over all industries I think things like Trump saying grab them by the P was a thing that didn't help and like like that normalized it a little bit and so I've started to stop telling sexist jokes in my standup because I had a moment when I just sort of thought I don't think everyone's taking these jokes you know do you think that one of the dangers in this is that anyone hmm doesn't like her boss yes I said in my routine they say when women come forward we have to hear them and I believe that we don't have to believe everybody take every case on its merits so far they seem to be believing yes that's all we have to take every case on its merits I know of people who have had a woman say that they've raped them and then they've retracted the statement and it's ruined marriages and lives and careers and and what-have-you but I believe where there's smoke there's five you know I'll give anyone one or two shots as there's someone someone coming forward and go maybe that person is trying to ruin that person but then when it's Harvey Weinstein and what what is it now like how many women now you know I mean there's been rumors about I knew about Harvey once and I heard the rumors before it happened why do I hear about it why should I know you know I mean and so like now Kevin Spacey and I heard rumors about that for years and the fact that Seth MacFarlane made a joke in the Family Guy ten years earlier about this this has been going on for a long time so the the the the problem here is there's a lot of evil people that should be taken down but there could be a witch-hunt people are taken down for just association what do you make of political correctness campuses political correctness on college campuses well that's a weird thing I've never been able to play college well when I when I came over to here as a stand-up comic I was deemed too offensive to perform on colleges where in the UK I was perform at the universities and people liked it because I were bringing a dirty comic this is going to be great and young kids love dirty comics you know eighteen year olds think dirty comics are hysterical right but over here you have to work clean in the college's so I don't even know I've never even been on one yeah I don't look like a guy's never been to college surely on your unusual punishment or you compare back to Trump to a kid running for class president yes elaborate well is when when you run for class president you make a lot of just just promises that you can't keep I'm gonna build a wall we're gonna do this we're gonna have that keep running for class president is like we can have two lunches we're gonna you know like this whole and Mexico's gonna pay for the wall I haven't met one Mexican or heard of Mexican say they would I don't I don't know why they would it's like if you built up a wall in your house then you said to the next-door neighbor or you're paying for it why would they pay for it and it's like it's also the promise of the wall for instance it's impossible you can't put a wall along the Rio Grande there's animals and stuff you can't do it so it's a promise that can't be made and the only thing is he said he was going to do tax reform right for the top 5% or something like that I've gotten into that pay bracket now I'm still waiting for that promise that's the one promise I thought he was gonna actually do and he's laboring on that but it's you know how many things do you think are possible that he actually promised you know he's not gonna be able to at the moment he's saying that we're gonna have to have a Muslim Bennigan's there's gonna be travel restrictions these things aren't things that can go on forever he promised he was going to repeal Obamacare and it's like we can't repeal Obamacare unless you have something else better in place and thank God we have people like John McCain who feel like they just don't give a stuff anymore and they can walk up and go no do you ever target Vladimir Putin we talked about glad Emilia has a sense of humor I know him we target him in the sense with the connection between him and Trump but we haven't gone after him as such by himself but we would yeah of course we would yeah what do you think make of the connection I think there's a real connection there I think what's coming out with the more trial I think we're going to find more more stuff I don't think it's just two people who are going to be arrested I think I think maybe five or six more other people go down I think there was definitely Russian collusion in the election but I also believe that propaganda has been going on forever you know unless they were actually changing vote counts or doing something like that if they're just sending us rubbish stories on our Facebook page we have to take some of that responsibility ourselves just sending us a message that Hillary Clinton has killed people right well check into it a bit yeah she probably just check into it a bit like like during World War one they had posters of go to war and you'll pick up women and you know I mean like and so it's not normal it's just the modern era of the Internet and so if we if we think for a second there are other foreign governments are going to try to affect our elections that's stupid to Australians have a great sense of humor Australians heritage do they have what they call the Aussie censor here you know we're a bit knock around and we say things we have a word called larrikin where are you know I just just fun sort of guys but I don't think it's as defined as the Brits I think the British sense of humor is a much more defined thing John Cleese John click I had dinner with him it was one of the greatest moments in my life I hear oh I just love the guy and I love that now he's gone to an age as well where he doesn't give us stuff he's just saying what he thinks about people he's now he's a mate Eric Eric Idle just all of them I was Barack Obama they didn't kill him much today Atomics well the problem was it's but he was very hard to make fun of the impersonation was quite easy because there was a timing and a rhythm to his voice but in moments of of heartache in the country after mass shooting or something that he always spoke so eloquently and he never missed a beat so it was hard to pick on him and so you could do a few Berthoud jokes about him and stuff like that you could do a few little gags but for the most part he was a hard sort of guide to pick on it's not because he was a Democrat as I said Bill Clinton was probably the easiest guy in the world to go after george w was fun right because he said all the little mistakes plus he was somewhat of a war crime and all he got us into an unnecessary war but besides that he was sort of a fun guy and now we look at george don't we it was such a glowing light George George he paints portraits now he painted you yet
