that god has called us to do so we gather and we scatter to make a difference and tonight we're gathering around the theme do good do good psalm 27 13 says this i remain confident of this i will see the goodness of the lord in the land of the living and that is one of my favorite scriptures and it's really come to life to me personally in these last months over this last year or so and today as i face you know things in my own life that are difficult as i look um at the challenges we face as a city as a nation you know in our world so many things that aren't good confront us on a daily basis but i'm so um encouraged by the fact that the bible says that surely i will see the goodness of the lord in the land of the living and that land of the living is the here and now it's not just heaven far off it's not just a promise of eternity with god where there'll be no more tears and no more crying and no more sorrow and anything that could get us down but it's a promise for us today because we are here in the land of the living and the bible tells us that surely we can see god's goodness so i hope you're encouraged by that joyce meyer says it this way that we should humbly receive the goodness of god knowing that we don't deserve it and we should respond to his goodness by doing all we can for god and for others because we love him and because all that he has done for us not for any other reason so god's been good to us and we can be good to others so that's my hope for us tonight that we'll get those two big things down in our heart number one i want you to get this that we would really receive a fresh tonight a fresh understanding of the goodness of god in our lives we have a good good father wasn't that song amazing so amazing it's such great theological truth because i think sometimes um we have a hard time maybe receiving the goodness of god in my in our lives you know for whatever reason maybe our earthly father didn't represent a good father to us maybe um we feel like we've got to perform to get a father's approval to get god our father's approval that we've got to just do everything right but that's not true god is a good father and he's good to you and sometimes for me it's easy to say well yeah he's good he's a good father and he's good to all of you but i have a hard time really receiving and believing that he's good to me so that's my prayer for you tonight that you would really get a fresh understanding that your spirit would just come alive with the love of god and that you would know that god is a good father and he's good to you that he has good plans for you he has good intentions toward you his thoughts towards you are great you are the apple of his eyes so he's a good good father and then because we've received that goodness you know when someone's good to you or when when you're full of that goodness the natural thing is that goodness would flow out of us to others so the second thing is this that we wouldn't just keep it to ourselves right we receive the goodness of god but we don't want to just keep it to ourselves but i want us to really be intentional and quick to give it out to others right to do good to do good to be intentional and to be quick to do good to and for others doing good is simply this it's acts of kindness done on a regular basis super simple acts of kindness done on a regular basis my mom used to say this little phrase all the time and i promise if i heard it once i heard it a thousand times she'd say have you done your good deed for today or if she did something she'd uh help someone in the grocery store or whatever she'd say oh i did my good deed for today so i love that and i say that to myself i can't tell you how much so a little plug for the moms what you say matters what you model to your kids matter because my mother has been gone for 14 years now and i promise at least once a week i think or say to myself have you done your good deed for today i hear a little voice in my head so i want to challenge you with that you know have you done your good deed for today are you going to be intentional to do simple acts of kindness to people let's not make it hard and complicated everybody can be kind everybody can do a good deed you know we don't have to be a pastor we don't have to have all the answers or we don't have to have tons of money it's something within reach for all of us again reflecting on the goodness of god in our own life and gosh how freely god has been good to us and we too should be free with our goodness you know to others so i've got a special little gift for you tonight it's a reminder that i hope you'll keep by you and it's a really cute little keychain right here and it says do good um and tonight everybody's gonna get one when we leave the auditorium you'll get one of those um and it's adorable it's so cute but it has a little card attached to us to it and you can use it any way you want it's got some little box by it boxes by it so like it's like a little checklist or maybe it'll just spur you on and give you some ideas so some of the thoughts are you know you can run an errand for someone you can buy someone a sweet treat you can babysit a friend's kids and the list goes on be creative again be intentional be spontaneous look for ways to do good and um you know when we do good it does as much good for us as it does for the person that we help so that's my prayer tonight that we would really grasp the goodness of god in our own lives and then turn around and give that goodness to others so are you up for it awesome that's great well tonight we are so honored and i don't say that lightly to have an amazing lady with us caroline barnett is going to come and speak in just a minute she and her husband matthew pastor an amazing church in l.a called angelus temple and they are the founders and the they run the la dream center which many of you know we here in memphis have a dream center we call it the memphis dream center and it truly is patterned after them they have been our inspiration they uh are leading the way for our church and really churches across the nation in the world in this whole idea of doing good to others of being jesus's hands and feet extended to others in very practical ways so their story is woven into our story and so um it's really an honor to have her here with us tonight she's going to share an amazing word and i want you to stand to your feet and just give her a really warm welcome [Music] [Music] caroline all right okay you guys can be seated i um welcome to memphis are you kidding thank you so much it is such an incredible honor to be here and i absolutely adore your pastors john and leslie and um you just glow with wisdom oh you're sweet and kindness and you're just beautiful in every way okay so i'm supposed to be introducing you and telling everybody how awesome you are because you are but i wanted you i know you're going to share with us and i'm sure you know every time i talk to you every time i've heard you speak just bits of your story ooze out because it's not just what you do it's actually who you are and that's one of the things i just admire the most about you so um we were taught we had dinner last night and we were talking about something that is really amazing to me the la dream center has all kinds of programs for all kinds of people it's just phenomenal i've had the privilege to visit and see it with my own eyes and it's awesome but something that's um not super new but relatively new and something that you guys are working on right now is your homeless family floor would you just tell us a little bit about that yeah so our homeless family floor we've had an operation for over 10 years however through the pandemic and all of the shutdowns the sheriffs came and informed us that we should be prepared because so many eviction notices were about to go out and so we thought oh we can't know that's happening not do something so we played tetris with our building we have a huge building in la and we repurposed some of our spaces and so we are now expanding uh we've always had two floors for homeless families but now we're taking four floors for homeless families expanding our ability to take in 42 homeless families amazing it's so amazing so we have something that we do or that we do as a company of women that's called life women's foundation and it's just a way for us as girls to partner together and to be able to do big things to bless people that we love bless people that are maybe find themselves in a hard place bless people that are doing amazing things and so tonight from all these women life women's foundation we would love to present you and matthew and the dream center with a 25 000 chat [Applause] oh my gosh thank you i've already had trouble keeping my eyes dry tonight for you to be able to continue the amazing work you're doing helping hurting people so these guys it's a it's all by faith it's all by faith what they do and they continue to one of the things that john and i just so admire is that you don't stop you don't take no for an answer you keep believing god you keep stepping out and it's just our honor to be able to partner with you in in that sort of way and so we love you we believe in what you're doing we pray for you we're cheering you on and we feel like we're part of you so thank you caroline we love you [Applause] i kind of cut her off guard but anyway i know she's the best all right so let's open our hearts and receive for beautiful caroline burnett love you good morning goodness i've already had trouble keeping my makeup on today because of uh the allergies and now it just made it worse you can't do that to a speaker right before oh goodness but oh my thank you and so on behalf of the dream center and tommy and matthew huge thank you we're not self-made we are not and online thank you um we're not self-made it's it has been the body of christ around the world that allows us to do what we do and aren't we powerful when we rally together isn't it amazing what we can do oh man that's a okay i had my whole opening set up but pastor john i did see you somewhere huge thank you to you and your friendship all these years and the way you've always partnered with us and every time he comes to the dream center pours into us he hits a home run and it's always such a blessing to have them with us so gosh what an honor to be here um i haven't really spoken on the road in over a year since the shutdown um and uh leslie was saying you know uh you know we never quit but there's a moment where i thought okay the dream center's not going to make it now after during the shutdown and a little piece of me was like hey that's okay it's not like a relief just kidding no i do love what i do and i'll get back to that but man hasn't god primed us to do good now can you imagine having gone through this last year without jesus without his promises without his hope god has primed us to do good i love that saying that keeps going around that these shutdowns either made you a hunk a chunk or a drunk right isn't that the truth goodness but god has set us up he's teed us up so that we can fill heaven right so let's pray god i just thank you so much for tonight i thank you for everyone who's here online and in person god i just thank you lord that as your daughters we can sharpen each other we can inspire each other so holy spirit i ask for your anointing i thank you for your anointing and i ask that you would do what only you can do and thus produce fruit that lasts give me clarity of thought and clarity of speech and have your way here tonight amen so before my eyes are still watering okay so before i start with my message i just want to give you a quick background on who i am and why i do what i do so uh back in 96 a long time ago but okay um let's backtrack a little bit more still that that gift messed me up um so uh anyways my family immigrated from sweden when i was just two years of age in search of the american dream and we started in los angeles and uh my parents had this big vision and they were so excited anyways the american dream ended up being a lot harder than they expected and um we ended up being raised in a really rough part of los angeles i hated los angeles i thought as soon as i'm 18 i am out of here um so even though growing up in a really rough area we were my parents were incredible christians they had a real relationship with jesus and can i tell you that's what your kids need more than anything else right so we were very involved in our church we were constantly there i think my parents wore every hat uh my mom was the organ player for a minute my dad was a children's pastor for a while and then you know that's how it is in small churches um so i was raised in church and i had a love for god um however my senior or junior and senior year i started to have one foot in the world and one foot in church and because my parents were immigrants they didn't know cheerleaders don't have sleepovers every single weekend so i got away with a lot but every friday night was out there uh drinking and dancing uh i thought okay this week this is the last week i'd be in church that next that sunday morning and the conviction would fall and i thought oh god i promise i'll never do this again but sure enough as soon as friday came around the party seemed even better than the week before have you ever been there so um so but that tells you though if you have a teenager who's struggling keep them in church they are hearing it right so it's towards the end of my senior year of high school when i'm at one of these parties and i think oh this is getting old right there has to be more to life than this and so i started reading the bible not just because i was raised to i was just really curious about life what was i here for what was i supposed to do and as i read the words of jesus i thought this is what i want to do i want to do what jesus was doing i want to go out into the streets i want to help those who are hurting those who think they've gone too far to have a relationship with him i want to make a physical change on this earth for jesus one would do so um i was raised in a traditional church where the only options were wednesday night or sunday mornings and they didn't have any outreaches and so my dad kind of knew my struggle and so we had some visitors from norway staying with our family and they had heard of a new place called the dream center i think we have some b-roll of the dream center and my dad saw this place he came home to me he said caroline i found what you've been looking for it's a place called the dream center and so i went for my first visit at the dream center and the moment i stepped on campus i thought this is it this is what i'm going to do with the rest of my life and so i'm 17 at this point i still have braces i'm a little girl but uh so i attend a church service and at that time the dream center is holding its church services in this really beat up old basketball gym there was no ac it was mostly all homeless people it smelled so bad in there and i go and pastor matthew barnett who's 22 at this point is leading the service and uh he says before you're seated turn to the person next to you and say hello well as soon as he said that he jumped off the stage came straight to me said hi i'm matthew do you want to go out tomorrow night i think he was just excited to see someone who had showered i don't know so i smiled big with my shiny braces i'm like sure so it was only my first time there and so i didn't know my way around the campus we have nine buildings on the campus and i was waiting on the main parking lot and then that next night and then he's waiting at this other parking lot we both wait about 30 minutes and assume the other one didn't show up so um so anyways this goes to show you how much pride and stubbornness is in our home because neither one of us said anything about that missed date for two and a half years all right um well you know how you are when you rededicate your life to jesus uh you're kind of hyper spiritual so i thought oh god thank you for protecting me because i know you've called me here for life and it'd be so weird if i had dated the pastor right so um i turn 18 and i move in as a full-time missionary volunteer and i think i lived in every part of that campus at some point uh but it was exciting our our passion made up for our lack of experience we were too young to know we shouldn't be doing what we were doing and uh so then i started some of the programs at the dream center which i'm gonna share about later but it was two and a half years later that matthew starts calling me in for meetings that were not necessary and if you know matthew as a leader he's not a micromanager at all and so in hindsight i wish i knew my power because i would have asked for 10 more trucks and 20 more volunteers but so anyways we're having these meetings i thought this is strange but sure enough then he asked me out for a second first date and uh this great man of faith with boldness the courage to take on such a crazy big ministry brought his mom on our first date and she happens to be swedish too so we're speaking swedish in front of him the whole night and he has no idea what we're talking about but she may ask me very very uncomfortable questions for a first night like how much did i like him would i marry him things like that so um but anyways we both kind of knew and three months later he proposed to me on top of the empire state building um and then three months after that we got married on the dream center campus we bused in all of our regular homeless people that would come to church and we busted in some of my outreach people and uh i feel like half of my father-in-law's church came out from phoenix but so fast forward we've been now married for almost 22 years and we have i know go so fast and we have two beautiful children my daughter is moving to college in three months i can't believe it but she's an amazing track star and then our son is 15 and he's amazing uh video game player and he's very smart get straight a's without trying so i'm very blessed and very proud mama but that's how i ended up in ministry and kind of where brings me to you today but thank you again so much for having me here tonight and so what i want to share with you tonight is something that radically changed my perspective on how powerful we are as the body of christ so for my first 10 years of working at the dream center i'd been out on skid row outreaches hundreds of times seeing the homelessness and the darkness and going into the crack hotels smelling that stench and seeing kids living in the most horrific ways i had been on prostitute outreaches in the middle of the night i had seen how dark that world looked um i had been in the homes of people dying of aids serving them food and seeing how painful that was and so for 10 years i've been doing outreach i had a glimpse of how broken our world was but at that time my level of faith was even at best even if the entire body of christ around the world rallied together these problems are so big we couldn't really scratch the surface of these issues it's so big it's so overwhelming there's no way and so i found myself watching a documentary about the kids in africa being forced to fight as soldiers forced to kill other children even their own siblings and it was one of those dark documentaries i could not stop crying cried the entire time and that night kind of angry with god to be honest i was crying out to god why why are you letting this happen why aren't you doing something about it and i felt him so sweetly remind me he said caroline i sent my son jesus to pay for the sin of what you just saw i sent my son jesus for the healing that needs to take place in my word i have guaranteed you success i have guaranteed to provide and caroline i made my children with their gifts and talents i have already given everything i need to give why are you letting it happen that was heavy right okay god and i'm an analytical person i thought oh shoot if it's in our hands what are we supposed to do still very overwhelmed still trying to work through this process um i was sharing as with all deep matters of theology i was sharing this with my hairdresser and um she was raised in the church went to a private christian school and i was telling her you know why don't we believe for that the stories that we read in the bible you know where you know god parted the sea for moses and he defeated like over 120 000 with gideon's army right um he stopped the sun for joshua why don't we believe for these kinds of miracles anymore like we read in the bible and she said well maybe not literally like the bible and it dawned on me i think we teach these stories like they're fairy tales like they're just about morals and character when they're meant to be used as examples of what god can do with us today right so i'm still working through this process still very very overwhelmed and so then i started reading the bible again looking for examples and god showed me that all he needs is our willingness that which we can freely give that's that which we can freely do is more than enough for us to accomplish the will of god and i'm going to use the example of moses building the tabernacle in exodus chapter 35 starting in verse 4. then moses said to the whole community of israel this is what the lord has commanded take a sacred offering for the lord let those with generous hearts present the following gifts to the lord he goes to list things that are very expensive to things that are very common so everyone can be a part of giving to the work of the lord verse 10 come all of you who are gifted craftsmen construct everything that the lord has commanded he goes to list things that require a lot of skills the things that anybody can volunteer with again so everyone can be a part of building the work of god verse 20. so the whole community of israel left moses and returned to their tents all whose hearts were stirred and whose spirits were moved came and brought their sacred offerings to the lord verse 22 both men and women came all whose hearts were willing 23 all those who owned the following items willingly brought them 26 all the women who were willing use their skills to spin the goat hair into yarn 29 so the people of israel every man and woman who was eager to help in the work the lord had given them through moses brought their gifts and gave them freely to the lord now look what happens when those of us who are willing give and do what we're willing to give and do chapter 36 verse 3. moses gave them the materials donated by the people of israel as sacred offerings for the completion of the sanctuary but the people continue to bring additional gifts each morning finally the craftsmen who were working on the sanctuary left their work they went to moses and reported the people have given more than enough materials to complete the job the lord has commanded us to do so moses gave the command and this message was sent throughout the camp men and women don't prepare any more gifts for the sanctuary we have enough so the people who stopped so so the people stopped bringing the sacred offerings their contributions were more than enough to complete the whole project so just with those willing to give and do god was able to more than accomplish his will and what is his will that none should perish without knowing him right if we all come together if we all rally together so i felt okay god i get it it's our fault okay god i believe you can do whatever with whoever just like the bible says but thank you god all you're looking for is our willingness that which we can freely give and do so then again being analytical i'm thinking okay if that's the truth what does this mean what does this look like so i started looking up any statistic i can find on those who are hurting like how many orphans still need a home how many people are starving around the world how many victims of human trafficking there are and when i started looking at these numbers i started to lose hope again i thought man these are overwhelming numbers but then i had a second thought well how big is god's army do you know there's over 2 billion christians around the world and with an army like that with the god that we serve what can't we fix right i think it's the devil who's lied to us to tell us this is bigger than us right and i feel like i'm preaching the choir because you guys are amazing all that you guys do with your dream center your outreaches and all that you intend to do i i was given a quick update last night from kelly and from anna and oh my gosh their hearts are beautiful so i know you guys do so much good but let's take it up a notch right there is so much more that we can do um so then okay what does this mean what does this mean for my personal life well i believe god when he designed you picked your hair color your eye color your gifts and talents he had a piece of you as his daughter where he's asking you to be his ambassador and this thing that he's called you to do that area where he's asking for you to step in to be his hands and feet is what i like to call a trigger and i had my first trigger pulled when i was 18. i was working at the dream center and i got a call from a social worker who said there was a family in need of food not too far away now we had a food bank on campus but we weren't distributing food out on the streets yet and so um i took the call and i said sure i'll take food over to this family so i went to our food bank i loaded up my car and i drove just less than a mile away from the dream center to this dilapidated apartment where it smelled bad it was a scary environment i walked into this apartment and there was a mom 25 with about six kids and they were all just in their underwear diapers there was no furniture in the house other than some couch cushions they used on the floor as beds and as soon as we walked in the kids jumped in my arms and started eating raw zucchini how hungry are these kids they're eating raw zucchini but it was in that moment when i was face to face with a hungry child that i knew how passionate i was about making a difference in the area of food and so i went back to the dream center i said you know what people who are really in food have really in need of food have no way of getting to us we've got to start taking this out into the streets we've got to start finding our sites and take it out to the street because truly how could this mother with all of her children get to the dream center and carry anything back home to her right that would not be worth it so i came back to the dream center so inspired but can i tell you i've been raised watching those commercials about the kids starving around the world and it would bring me to tears but not to action so go try different things put yourself in the place where you you feel the fears you smell the stench you hear the cries you feel the danger go try different things wait until that trigger's pushed in you that says i can't know this is happening not do anything about it because then you're working from passion and that's a passion god placed in your heart and when you're working from passion it'll push you beyond your fears and abilities it'll be work that doesn't feel like work and even though it'll be something that breaks your heart so deeply it will give you the greatest joy knowing you're a part of the solution right so i came back to the dream center yeah we got to start uh start taking this food out into the streets now i had no experience with food ministry that we didn't have that in our church growing up i had no idea what to do but you know what as soon as i stepped on faith and said let's do this because at the time we only had enough food to accomplish what we were doing on campus you know one conversation led to another conversation led to another conversation and uh with people in networks and who had contacts and i remember being very overwhelmed after we started our mobile food banks because we would pick elementary schools in at-risk neighborhoods and so instantly there was at least 200 families in line waiting for food and i remember looking out on a friday afternoon at all the faces i think god how can i promise this many people food every single week and i felt god say caroline that's not your problem you show up and i'll provide and can i tell you that was 25 years ago and god has provided every single week and we've never had to pay for food god has provided see when god is asking you to do something he wants it done more than you that's the confidence you can go out with he wants it done more than you and uh so we started our food trucks and we reached uh around 30 to 40 000 people a month with our mobile food banks as one of our feeding programs and by the way the first time pastor john came to our church and showed us your food trucks i was so jealous because they were so pretty i wanted his trucks um but it's okay so i i did that i was on the streets for five days a week for seven years and i happened to be out to lunch with a friend of mine and she was sharing with me um all the statistics about the kids in foster care now that happened to be an area where i felt like what can we do other than fostering what could you do to help but she rattled off one statistic that said more than 50 percent of kids who are in foster care actually have parents who loved them but lost them due to basic necessities now my whole life i assumed every child removed it would be something really scary or dangerous like there was you know something really bad going on but i never knew a parent could be doing their personal best love their children yet lose them and so that was one of those trigger moments for me i thought i can't know this is happening and not do something about it and so um i started a women's ministry we didn't have one yet i started women's ministry because i felt like god said to use the women of our church to be the army behind this so we started that and we started our foster care intervention program and we contacted our local dcfs office and said as a church we can help you with basic necessities food clothing furniture at our at the dream center we have ged we have money management courses we have anger management things we have counseling all that so as a church we can help with these things if you come across families with open cases at risk of losing their kids due to these things call us we'd love to help and at first they were a little leery of us weren't sure if um we'd follow through on what we're offering but as soon as we showed ourselves faithful they started calling us every single day with families at risk of losing their kids due to poverty and um one of my favorite most memorable moments when is when i heard from our team they had driven up to one of these families it was a mother with four children to make our delivery because once there's an open case every case looks different based on what the social worker puts together in terms of what they need to check off in order to close our case and be good so some lists are very long and some are shorter typically the biggest hiccup is furniture because a lot of the moms that we're working with it's a domestic violence situation but we do work with dads as well but it's a domestic violence situation where the mom took her kids in a dangerous moment and ran and now she's trying to rebuild her life and could you imagine as a single mom how like daunting the thought of acquiring furniture because once there's an open case every child has to have a bed or the child's remove removed from the home so more than anything we're providing furniture but clothing moral support baby items those kind of things so our truck was pulling up just to this mother with four children and the mom came screaming out of the apartment screaming screaming she ran to our truck trying to hold our doors closed because she thought we were there to take her children such an exciting way to live out your faith being a superhero on behalf of god could you imagine if you were this mom you love your children maybe you weren't given the opportunities you needed to be able to make it like you you've always wished the way you dreamed of as a girl but love your children doing your best know your inspections the next day but you haven't checked everything off and your kids are going to be removed could you imagine the pain that would be in your heart the fear where will they go will they be safe will be okay dude they know i'm trying my best do they know i love them i couldn't even imagine i can't even imagine the kind of prayers that have gone out god if you're real help can you imagine then a group of women coming and knocking on your door saying we're here to check off that list with you at the dream center we can't keep up with the number of families just in our district that need our help but we have been able to save over a thousand families from losing their kids due to poverty [Applause] so through working with a lot of these families then again you could kind of mushrooms but we realized some moms they're always going to be on this roller coaster of poverty unless they have a safe place to live for a season to acquire an education a job skill and to really make it in life and so along with the homeless families that we bring in we are bringing in some of these foster care intervention families and with our program at the dream center we test all of the kids and the parents to see what grade level they're at and it's not uncommon that the parents are testing at a first grade level so they can't even read and it makes me think of one of the first families we brought in from foster care intervention she tested at a first grade level she was a woman in her 40s she had six kids four of them still with her and so we at that time we were sending her to a local tutoring class but she came back embarrassed she was the oldest woman in the class had a hard time keeping up and so she just wanted to quit so we found out her story she was molested by her father until she was eight at which point she was put in the foster care system and was in over 30 homes before she was emancipated at 18. so can you imagine beyond the abuse and all of the issues that come along with that the abandonment um no one through all those homes was keeping up with her education and then set off free expected to make it in life at 18. the truth is this woman is a survivor you know i'm in my my 40s really early 40s but i still run to my mom and dad could you imagine trying to navigate this life without your parents without a place to go home for christmas and for thanksgiving and just to have that support and so why do i bring up her story it's because the god miracle for this woman the god miracle and when i say it like that is because when i was being raised in church like the god miracle things they that all had to do with like benny hinn on a stage and slaying people in the spirit right that's the kind of whenever i heard about god miracles that's what i pictured was having the power to slay people right i don't know um but the god miracle the miracle that would change her life her future her children's future and generations to come through their bloodline would be for someone for the first time in her life would love her enough to teach her how to read no one ever loved her that much your basic abilities can be a god miracle in someone's life your basic abilities can you balance a checkbook that's a basic ability that could really help somebody out can you cook that's a basic ability that can really help somebody out again all of your gifts and talents god gave you for a reason to be his daughter to be his ambassador to be his hands and feet so here are some shocking stats about illiteracy in america 44 million adults are now unable to read a simple story to their children fifty percent of adults cannot read a book written an eighth grade level three out of four people on welfare can't read three out of five people in an american prison can't read and this shocked me the most to determine how many prison beds will be needed in the future some states are actually basing part of their projection on how well current elementary students are performing on reading tests so we're planning for them to fail again your basic abilities can be a miracle in someone else's life so again hearing dawn's story hearing how much time she has spent in foster care and then looking up a lot of other statistics the human trafficking problem in los angeles is a home-grown problem 85 percent of them are former foster youth 70 of all prison inmates spent time in foster care eighty percent of the men on death row spent time in foster care but you might think all these issues that's the government's problem it's the government's problem to feed it's the government's problem to educate it's the government's problem to stop human trafficking but can i tell you when the government does it that's all they've done but when we as the body of christ come with food and uh come and solve these problems we come with a reason to live we also come with unconditional love a hope for tomorrow healing the power to change and eternal salvation right when we in every adult that i've met at the dream center who can't read can i tell you there's a backstory on it and the government was not healed but not anointed to heal the broken heart and you might think well surely stopping human trafficking of course we need the government and the police to help us with that but you can't stop sin without winning the lost right so can i tell you how much time do you have you guys are so fun i don't want to leave okay uh i'll do this fast so do you know god has you in mind when he asked us to do some do this over 350 times in the bible he asked us to help the poor the one the prisoner the homeless but he has you in mind there's always a promise of a blessing in return to you and one of my favorite examples of this is found in isaiah 58 starting verse 6. he said no this is the kind of fasting i want free those who are wrongly imprisoned lighten the burden of those who work for you let the oppressed go free and remove the chains that bind people share your food with the hungry and give shelter to the homeless give clothes to those who need them and this is a hard one and do not hide from relatives who need your help well however what are your promises when you do those things what are your promises continue in verse 8 then your salvation will come like the dawn and your wounds will quickly heal your godliness will lead you forward and the glory of the lord will protect you from behind and then when you call the lord will answer yes i am here he will quickly reply remove the heavy yoke of oppression stop pointing your finger and spreading vicious rumors feed the hungry and help those in trouble then here's your promise then your light will shine out from the darkness and the darkness around you will be as bright as noon the lord will guide you continually giving you water when you are dry and restoring your strength you will be like a well-watered garden like an ever-flowing spring some of you will rebuild the deserted ruins of your cities and then you will be known as a rebuilder of walls and a restorer of homes wow that's amazing look at all those promises god has for you um and god is not asking you to take up this this passion in your life at the expense of another area and i know we like to talk about the province 31 woman and it's not a real women's conference without it but i'd like to point out three things uh she's fictious all right she's fictitious or she's not real um she had hand maidens plural she had lots of help right but again it didn't it when she did all these amazing things it was not at the expense of another area and i was wondering one time what kind of mother raised mother teresa right because i wanted to be that kind of mom the kind of mom who would inspire that kind of compassion in her daughter so the only thing i found on mother teresa's mother was something that she wrote in one of her books of quotes it says i'll never forget my own mother she used to be very busy the whole day but as soon as the evening came she used to move very fast to get ready to meet my father at that time we didn't understand we used to smile we used to laugh and we used to tease her but now i remember what a tremendous delicate love she had for him it didn't matter what happened she was ready there with a smile to meet him today we have no time the father and mother are so busy the children come home and there's no one to love them to smile at them that's why i'm very strict with my co-workers i always say family first if you are not there how will your love grow for one another so god is not asking you to use your willingness to serve at the expense of romancing your husband loving or spending time with your children pursuing your dreams or your career or sabotaging relationships with your friends it's only one area of your life it will make you so much better in every other way so as i close i want to make something very clear also doing this good work pursuing this passion in your life it's not about earning your salvation and i think that's very hard for us to wrap our minds around and can i tell you my first year as a volunteer at the dream center we have church services on thursday nights and sunday mornings every church service i was at the altar bawling my eyes out repenting for my behavior in high school for an entire year and i felt after that year god said hey caroline are you done yet oh god i just need you to know how sorry i am yeah but i forgave me the first time but no god i knew better that makes it worse i didn't felt him just say caroline are you trying to earn your salvation i was trying to beat myself up enough at the altar to help me believe that i could be forgiven forgiveness god's salvation it doesn't make sense it's way too good on our end but that's how good our god is so again finding this passion going and doing good is not about earning your salvation it's also not about earning more of god's love god right now has the most perfect love for you god on the day that you regret the most the day that you still think about what did i do why did i do that god had a perfect love for you on that day and can i tell you if you solved all world hunger it wouldn't change how much god already loves you right now sitting in your chair so our motivation for going out and doing good is not to earn more of god's love but when i am trying to inspire you today is that if the same god who parted the sea for moses the same god who stopped the son for joshua the same god who raised jesus from the dead for you is backing you and guaranteeing your success then why not why not [Applause] so if you're in this room you're going to join me and say if all god needs is my willingness that which i can freely give and do would you please stand up you online too stand up wherever you are can i tell you why i get so crazy excited when i see this it's because of what i know it means out there because isn't it fun to know that god takes everything we do and he multiplies it so let me pray for you real quick god i just thank you so much for every willing woman in this room god i just thank you lord that you're speaking to them you're opening their eyes and lord i thank you for those who already know what that passion that trigger is in their life i thank you lord for a new strength and anointing and opportunities and open doors i thank you lord that they can smile excited about knowing you have them covered and for those women who may be scared to know what it is that you're asking them i thank you lord that we can trust you we can trust you and know that again lord if this is something that breaks our hearts so deeply we'll get the greatest satisfaction and joy in life knowing we're part of the solution so i just pray that you'd give them a heart open to hear your voice to know that you won't ask for too much this will add to our life not take from it and right now i just want to thank you father for what this means for those kids right now who are crying out for their parents the lords these women will stand in that gap for every child who will get to stay home in their bed with their mom i thank you lord for that i thank you lord for every captives addicted to drugs right now who will be changed and saved through their efforts i thank you lord for their freedom right now oh god you see you see all of it you see what we don't see but god we just thank you that we have the privilege because of your great love for us that we get to be your hands and your feet so i thank you lord i thank you in advance in your name we pray amen amen come on let's give it up for caroline come on [Applause] come on we can do better than that let's show our love and our appreciation that was amazing awesome once you have your seats just for a moment we're going to close in just a minute but how many of you um think that our all of our investment in the dream center over the years uh is good ground and and uh man what an amazing message and just so inspiring and um so liberating because sometimes we make it complicated don't we we try to figure out how to do certain things and really just to have a willing heart and to do what what the lord has called us to do and i i'm so thankful for uh for matthew and caroline and the dream center and um all that they have done they have led the way all of these years now there's hundreds of dream centers all over the world and we we happen to have a couple of here a couple here austin peay and highland but they're all over the world because of their because of their leadership because they have modeled that kind of spirituality how many of you know that's real spirituality right there that's that's that's real spiritual and jesus said if you have done it unto the least of these you have done it unto unto me and so i love that whole idea of practicing uh christianity being the hands of jesus being the feet of jesus and now more than ever how many of you believe now more than ever we need to be the church and we need to do what he's called us to do and so i'm going to lead us in a generosity moment right now i'm going to lead us in this opportunity to give to our life women's foundation and the 25 thousand dollars that we're sending caroline home with um is is money that you've given uh you gave it in the last zoe last year the the last offering that we took for the life women's foundation and so that foundation just receives all of our giving and just goes right out to worthy causes and to help um you know to help people like caroline and the dream center and and and so uh we just feel like you know we just keep you know we keep investing and we keep sewing and so i want you to take time if you would just pull out your phone real quick and and just get that qr code you can you can zoom in on your phone if you don't have your phone you can you can give if you if you want to give on your way out in one of the boxes if you want to jump online big way so i'm going to pray everybody and i'm going to pray over this offering i'm going to pray over caroline and matthew and all that is on their plate right now and and uh man what a year it has been for for la what a year it's been for for our country the last 18 months 24 months in some ways the west coast and la hit the hardest in terms of um you know sort of government control and and and uh all the limitations that they've had to break through uh as a dream center and as a church out in l.a and so thank god they kept going thank god they're still going and leading the way and so let's pray everybody all right let's pray over this offering father god thank you for this opportunity to sit under um that anointed message to spur us um and and to stir us to action to be willing to be your hands and your feet thank you for matthew and caroline and the whole family and the the angelus temple the la dream center all that they're doing and even the movement of dream centers across the country and around the world thank you father god for your gift on their life for your anointing that's on their life we pray you would help them meet every need every need thank you that you have been so faithful thank you that we've had an opportunity even tonight to invest and now we give again investing again moving things forward and i thank you for every woman that's here every person two more things that um many of the things that caroline talked about we do that as well we have a partnership with the foster care we're doing feeding programs there's all sorts of there's so many things that we do out of our dream centers i hear i feel like i hear about things every other day and i'm like i didn't even know we were doing that um so uh you have the opportunity really to be involved here um i wish we would have had a little bit better of action steps for you to take but this kind of how how it works sometimes is just you know keep your ears open and uh and and for things that come up and and outreach opportunities that come up because we're doing them right here right here in memphis and how many of you know we have need here pretty big need here that we can uh be involved in i know all the bunch of ladies watching at new york and have a phenomenal outreach uh just different outreaches that they're doing in new york and massachusetts and down in santiago uh at all of our locations it's one of our hallmarks as a church that we feel like we're called to be the hands and feet of jesus right and not just not just have church but be the church can i get an amen from all the ladies and so um i love that idea of do good and now more than ever all right let's stand to our feet how many of you had a great night tonight at zoe night i think it was awesome i want right when you have the willingness god's going to lead you he's going to direct you he's going to point you in the direction that you need to go and really move you call to action is what you talked about you have that call of action i love how she was talking about how you know she had tears in her eyes but she didn't have that compelling like action moment but there was a point where she had like there's something hit home and she felt compelled to like do something and i think that was powerful you gotta start without willingness though it's the willingness take a step of being willing and god's uh will move and do it she said when you ask when god asks you to do something he will provide the rest yeah i think that's so powerful when we just step out we have that willing spirit god's going to provide everything else that we need i love how she was talking about when you know she they were going and meeting families it's like the food like god would show up and provide the food and like they didn't know where it was going to come from but every single time god was faithful and how many times has he been faithful in our life i think we could all probably say that he's been faithful so when we take a step and we're willing i love that what about you yeah that's true um i think the point that really stood out to me is when she said your basic abilities can be a miracle to someone else's life i think a lot of times we we think that we have to have you know like this a fancy you know like ability to do something and it's like no you literally you cooking you picking up a mop you just helping somebody you're picking somebody up yeah literally it's just helping their lives and you never know how much that one little thing that you've done can really impact
