will be all right so father we confess our sins before you right now and ask that you will forgive us of our sins of those things that we've done against you father god by word thought indeed lord for gives us this recording once safely on shore we found out that the island was called malta the islanders showed us unusual kindness they built a fire and welcomed us all because it was raining and cold paul gathered a pile of brush wood and as he put it on the fire a viper driven out by the heat fastened itself on his hand when the islanders saw that the snake hanging from his hands they said to each other this man must be a murderer for thou he escaped from the sea the goodness justice has not allowed him to live but paul shook off the snake into the fire and suffered no ill effects the people expected him to swell up or suddenly fall dead but after waiting a long time and seeing nothing unusual happened to him they changed their minds and said he was a god amen may the lord continue god has delivered us god saved us through the righteousness of god we are justified by god and so we bring our offerings to the storehouse amen the bible says i will rebuke the devourer for thy sake i will open up a window so wide that you won't be able to receive the blessings that i have for you amen and all we have to do is be obedient unto god have faith in god as it says in mark chapter 22 verse 11 malachi chapter 3 verse 10. we have to do what god has called us to do we have so many metrics that matrix that we can provide for you where we are fed folk we have house people amen the lord our savior are all and all are all and all amen amen it's just good to be in the house of the lord god is still in the saving business and i'm grateful i give honor to the almighty god also to his son jesus to christ that gives us the greatest gift ever given which is indeed the gift of salvation and the one that brings comfort in times when we need to be confident the holy ghost the holy spirit i give deference to our pastor our senior pastor the reverend dr mark e whitlock junior and to the first lady and our executive minister the reverend hermione chicago whitlock to our ministers liturgy god just for a few moments i'd like to speak from the subject your belief will overcome the bite your belief overcomes the bite amen my brothers and sisters i've discovered a deep revelation that i have never thought of before never preached about it or even talked about it the spirit of god had put a discovery in me about something that has been troubling me for a large number of years and that thing that i'm talking about is the use of extreme conflictual contrasts that make no sense but somehow they get our attention yeah my mother would spank me when i was about 10 years old and and she would say things like this will hurt me more than it's going to hurt you and at 10 years old i told her if that was the case to go ahead and save herself some energy and be herself so that i won't have to suffer the pain that she says is more on her than on me conflict so that happened around 1966 and when i woke up in 1976 i realized that she used the pain to correct me not to hurt myself to have future to have pain in the future contrast is what i'm talking about yes contrast most criminals who do a crime if they don't get caught they're conscious the longer they're out of jail the more their conscience will beat them and that conscience will beat them so bad that rather stay hidden away in the cover of darkness and secrecy they begin to do things that put them in the eyes of the law and when they do this they begin to want to get caught here's another contrast they are putting themselves in position to go back to the very place that they avoided and escape from can someone say contrast we need to look no further than acts 28 to find paul dealing with the conflictual contrast from the very beginning he had just survived a vicious storm that aided him on his journey to rome he was a prisoner on a boat and when the storm rose up over the sea the regards thought that they would have to kill the prisoners in order to keep them from escaping by swimming away the boat was literally torn to pieces in broken pieces and they made it to a place called malta my first point is don't rest too early because of your belief don't rest too early because of your delete believe now when they had escaped they found that this island of malta it was inhabited by some natives that showed an unusual kindness for them they were experienced sailors who were used to sailing on the other side of malta on their way to greece but the storm blew them off course has you ever been in a sailing in life and everything was good and something blew you off course into a strange and an unknown predicament this is where they find themselves surrounded by people they've never met and driven there by a storm so vicious that they didn't know that the people they encountered would be friend or foe but we're glad that the natives were kind for they kindled a fire and they said paul said they made them all feel welcome because of the rain that was falling and it was cold then they found that the island of malta was inhabited by some good people and while they're there having survived a shipwreck having survived being incarcerated and imprisoned and now finding themselves in a place of comfort it's easy for them to think that everything is going to be all right have you ever walked through life thinking that everything is all good and that you are paying your tithes you're coming to church when we're in all the time you have your hands raised you know how to go to your prayer closet you know how to get one through the roof you understand the importance of having a relationship with god but and while you're doing everything that you've checked off of your spiritual checklist a storm comes your way something blows you off course and you find yourself in a strange and unusual place malta the very name itself from the greek means honey because it had a lot of honeycombs on the island but the phoenician name is the one i want you to pay attention to it this means a safe haven so if we're going to put it together it's a sweet safe haven for paul and while they got there something strange began to happen to them because i'm already at my second point trust your belief trust your belief because paul began to gather a bundle of sticks for a fire and laid them out and as soon as the fire got too high that old viper a snake a venomous snake came from out of nowhere driven by the heat and isn't that how it is when you're in full-blown worship when the organ the ham and b3 is playing real nice when you know that your song is hitting at an all-time high your feet begin to move in the heat of the holy spirit begins to warm up the worship and the atmosphere inside you know snakes will be driven out by that and when this snake was driven out it said that it did something crazy not only did it bite paul but it was dangling and hanging on his hand and that symbolizes to me that sometimes when we're bitten it does not even not a quick and easy bite but sometimes that thing a dangle and it'll dangle and it'll hold on to you and try to frighten you to turn away from god and turn to something else to let the pain go away but can i tell you that your belief is will overcome the bite because now the people paul suffered another bite because the people who were so friendly who obeyed wanted to make a fire for him now begin to doubt who he was because they believed that because this island malta had was steeped into the greek culture they didn't believe in the one true and only god that we know they believed in zeus they believed in aphrodite they believed in her they believed in false greek little g gods and they thought through their belief system that because the ball was a prisoner and this was a sign because he got bit that he was indeed a murderer don't let people label you let me come off the gate right now no matter what you walking through or going through isn't it interesting how people will try to have a label on you so that they can fit you into their conversations and convince other people that you are who they think you are but not who god knows you are i'm coming on through here now but he shook off the creature into the fire and that tells me you got to shake a snake off yeah don't let it scare you it little bite ain't going to kill you because god is on your side so whenever something in life bites you something comes out of the fire of the holy spirit go ahead and just shake it off shake that thing off shake shake shake that thing off because god is on your side now as they looked they were they thought it was going to swell and they thought that paul was going to fall over and die because the snake was a venomous viper but after they looked on for a long time and they saw no harm came to him they changed their minds and said that he was a god that's crazy but people are fickle pastor the same ones that said he was a vicious murderer after they saw a little tiny miracle occur they immediately said he went from being a murderer to a god have people ever flipped on you like that and people can talk about you real good one day when you're up they'll talk about you when you can loan them some money they'll talk good about you when you can get them they give you a job but wait until a snake comes and bites you baby they won't be anywhere to be found because they don't want to hang with someone that's been snake bitten but they don't understand that it's your belief that's going to overcome the bite yeah it's going to overcome the bite it's going to overcome the bite so now as they are now walking and talking and calling paul a god here's my final point already walk in the deliverance of your belief yeah this is all about belief i told you belief overcomes the bite my final point walk in the deliverance of your bite no doubt this man is a murderer i told you they said that yet justice does not allow to live the natives were convinced that justice had finally caught up with him but justice their god was was not going to let paul to live i just shared with you earlier that they called him now a god and because they were jumping back and forth spiritually schizophrenic going between murderer and god paul was still walking in his belief that's an example for us when people around you are going crazy because they don't understand what god is doing in your life they see a snake hanging off of you they see some trouble on me your way they see a cloud over your head but keep on walking baby don't pay attention to them don't mess with them don't hang out with them but keep hanging on there with your belief system and go where god wants you to go yeah he suffered no harm god i don't believe god god didn't preserve paul from the storm just to let him perish by the bite of a snake no he didn't there's no way that he let paul go through a storm that strong a storm that mighty going to this island called malta on broken pieces to let one little harmless snake get up and stop his game god is telling paul um when i tell you to go somewhere go on paul you're gonna have some trouble along the way but b it's gonna be all right because i'm with you i'm with you when snakes are hiding from you i'm with you with snakes or in plain sight i'm with you paul when snakes come out and they grab you by you i'm with you no matter what it doesn't matter where the stake is it's just a matter it matters what god is doing in the circumstance paul was protected because he believed it was promised to paul by the lord that he would go to rome you he says it in acts 23 and 11. you must also bear witness at rome when god has a promise when god tells you it's going to happen you make on that thing baby no matter what the environment looks like no matter how many storms wreck your ship called life god is going to get you to that place where god wants you to go and paul wasn't in rome yet this is problematic it wasn't so much that nothing would stop paul as that it was nothing that would stop god's promise from being fulfilled that's where i'm going it's time to get out of here paul could take god's faithfulness as a promise of god's future blessing and his protection let me say it again paul could take god's past faithfulness does anybody in the house have some receipts where god has blessed you does anybody in the house can show that god has come through when it didn't seem there was a way would somebody know that god has made a way out of no way when you had your head down didn't had a strength to look up couldn't put one foot in front of the other but god is right there with you baby making sure everything was gonna be all right yeah here we go it's time to land this thing and get on out of here when they said he was a god little g that's a typical human reaction yeah it is i think we make little gods out of kardashians we make little guards out of celebrities we make little gods out of people who have a lot of money we make little gods out of people that we think have power we make little guys all the time and because we are the same boat that these folks are at times this is a good time for paul to continue to give us this lesson plan because paul was not a criminal deserving punishment by god it looked like paul should go to prison it looked like he was a murderer the people flipped the script and called him god but again i tell you that your belief will overcome all of that a snake bite their unbelief their trumped up charges it will overcome all of that if you continue to believe and walk into ways and the admonition of the lord i'm getting out of here now but my belief will overcome the bite when depression that had me drowning in the waters of stress i got up and i faced my issue i believe that my belief will overcome the bite when i was lying in my bed of infirmity and i heard that the effectual fervent prayers are the righteous they availeth much my belief will overcome the bite when people talk about me i respond by praying around them to my god my belief my belief my belief and overcome the bite when you call when you god has called a loved one home and loneliness is set in but then i recognize and realize that the bite might not hurt for it might hurt for a little while but it won't take me out my belief overcame the bite when addictions became afflictions and i recognized that the bite wouldn't kill me but make me more determined to take on the devil can i just go ahead and holler at that demon for a minute take your best shot demon you can try to bite and poison me bite me with your bad intentions bite me with your tricks bite me with your trash it won't work because i have some anti-venom administered by the holy ghost through a syringe that's filled with the blood of christ as long as i'm covered by the blood no snake can harm me i will take the stress and make it impress my enemy because the god i serve will get me through one more time you can bite me by lying on me don't worry baby true crust to the earth will rise again you can bite me by trying to take away my job don't worry about it baby promotion doesn't come from a snake bite promotion doesn't come from man but promotion comes from the lord don't worry when you get a bite and you think that it's going to take you out no poison around you can take you out nothing on earth can take you out without god's permission and i know how to get god's antivenom to work it works by sailing this way god will send down your antivenom god will bless you in the middle of the body god will take away the pain when it's time god will oh yes he will god will make sure the snake won't kill you god will make sure that where he sets you to sail all he's going to get you to that place don't let anything get in your way you've got to have strong belief let your belief y'all let your belief overcome the madness overcome the sickness overcome the illness overcome the stress let your belief be your way out because it's through your belief that god will god will god will take you out he'll heal you in the midnight hour he'll make sure the snakes are driven out and you'll be able to walk in a stateless land because of god you serve the god you serve will get you out of that place because your belief your belief your belief will overcome anybody amen yeah your belief will overcome anybody from the lord from a snake amen amen and if that word i pray was medicine for you i pray that word was anti-venom to let you know that we're gonna get bitten from time to time get bitten by politics get bitten by people who are jealous of you you get bitten in so many places and if you aren't careful you'll focus on the bite and you will leave your belief but can i offer you something that's stronger than any toxic thing that can attach itself to you i want to offer you jesus christ yeah he's the antivenom if you don't know jesus christ and the pardoning of your sins don't have a relationship with him don't even know what it means to be saved all you got to do pray this prayer with me lord i'm a sinner i confess with my mouth and believe in my heart that you raise your son
