Please note that this website is currently a work in progress! Lots of interesting data and statistics to come.
Don't want to watch? The rundown is that modern scramblers really only have the name to go based off of but have nothing to really hold up to a scrambler.
If you want a bike to go off and on road get an adventure bike.
These reviews are great. I can watch the more information focused ones to get an overall better understanding of the bike's strengths and weaknesses but these are high production entertainment. It's like a Top Gear feature except for bikes and made on a (hard to believe) shoe string budget. Love FortNine for daring to do something different!
At first I loved the FortNine reviews-- they're always so slick and well produced. Recently, though, the elaborate plots and thematic conceits feel like a distraction from anything bike-related.
EDIT: I just watched this review again and I was even more frustrated by how it ends-- by stringing out the strained metaphor of the deck of cards to such a degree that the conclusions the reviewer makes about the Yamaha are almost totally obscure.
I see this as more of a fashion/dirt road bike (with appropriate tires) than a true dual sport (which scramblers were never meant to be... see CL175/350 vs. SL175/350 in classic Honda terminology.)
These bikes arent meant to be comfortable or even fast, really... they're meant to be cool. And I think basically all of them have achieved that. I ride a bolt - its far from the best cruiser, but it is a damn cool cruiser, and fun at that. Sure, suspension is short and can be jarring. The lack of a tach is odd. But I actually enjoy riding this, vs something that is considered "better" like the CB500X.
The ducati is probably faster. The triumph is probably faster too. But this is probably a fun hooligan bike to slide around or just cruise around and enjoy the way it looks. And that's OK.
I thought it was a good review. Better than all the safe mainstream ones that mindlessly rattle off the spec sheet of a bike without giving an opinion.
Why does every motorcycle journalist feel the need to go on about how each respective scrambler sucks off road or tell us to buy an adv/dual-sport for off road use? No shit. Just review it as a street bike. That's what it is.
these are getting pretty obfuscated. i watch bike reviews for clear and direct info mixed with a bit of fun. this is pretty light on all accounts
4mins 32secs of bullshit before we actually here anything worthwhile about the bike.
Gave up at that point.
As usual, /r/motorcycles falls into the trap of slick editing and well produced video. This video is extremely low on details, and for the amount of bagging he made on the bike, his conclusions don't make a whole lot of sense.
It's also pretty evident that he can't ride the bike very well. They go to a flat track...for a reason I can't fathom after seeing the footage and tool around in a circle. It's a flat track, back that bitch in.
If you want actual information about the bike and its performance, look elsewhere. All this moron does is wallow on what it doesn't have and why it isn't a scrambler and why the genre isn't up to his standards.
