I'm outside in an AMG right outside TT two-time baby girl you know me [Music] asures [Music] [Music] hey guys welcome back to my channel so I'm jelana if you have um y'all really loved my last room real sick day in the life video so I figured today would be a great day to have another one um I'm gonna try to post more Vlogs more work Vlogs and stuff like that because I just know that when I was trying to be a software engineer I really wanted to see more realistic day in the lives like I wanted to be all in your business like what do y'all do at work I want to know so today's like a realistic video so um as you guys saw I went to Pilates this morning so let me just tell you a little bit more about my day so I apologies I picked up my Waffle House um and I'm also about to stop at the grocery store before I start work and after that I'm going to start work I have about four meetings today at work I have some things that I'm working on that I'm going to explain to you guys later about and um then I'm going to an event tonight that's hosted by Google Amazon and Thanksgiving so I was invited by Amazon not sure how they got my email not sure how they knew I live in Atlanta but hey we here so I'm super excited for today super excited to take you guys with me and again I'm going to try to explain as much as possible about what I'm actually doing at work and all those good things so yeah [Music] okay so I'm all showered I'm like in my skincare routine I changed into some pajamas just so that I can be comfortable I usually wear loungewear when I work from home there are a couple meetings where I might throw on a t-shirt or something if I want my camera on but for the most part I just want to be comfortable like I'm at home so I wanna that's the whole point we've been at home so that I can be comfortable so yeah I'm all ready this is my work from home attire and let's get started with our day so I'm actually about to eat my Waffle House um probably start looking at my emails like messages anything I need to respond to it's about probably like 10 o'clock now um I have a meeting in a couple hours at 12. and hmm and for that meeting I could just keep my camera off nobody cares if I have my camera on and after that I'll have to check my schedule to see what else I have for the rest of the day but by the way do y'all see these teeth if you've been keeping up with my whole braces Journey you know I blocked and I got braces and like my Gap is already gone and that's crazy like ah play with somebody else okay guys so let's get into this schedule for today so at 12 o'clock I actually have my team meeting so this meeting is we have this Tuesday Wednesday Thursday it's basically like a sync up so the meeting can last anywhere between like 10 to the full 30 minutes we just do like quick statuses sometimes because I have a lot to um update sometimes we need the Whole 30 minutes one o'clock I have a user testing meeting so just to kind of backtrack and tell you guys a little bit more about what I do just in case you're new here so I'm a front-end software engineer and um I work at a tech company and I started this project in August and basically the product that I'm building we started from scratch and so it's an internal tool inside of the knowledge graph org that we're building and um like I said we started in August and now we're in May and we've been working on the MVP this whole time and now we're finally about to start rolling it out to users for beta mode so at one o'clock my user testing meeting is basically allow users to kind of test out the product in our meeting and just you know tell us like any feedback or anything that they want changes to or you know things like that so it's basically like a user um if I say user meeting so that we can get feedback from our users so I have that at one o'clock and then at two o'clock and four o'clock I have a user research meeting so I'm a front-end software engineer um but my boss put me in charge of this new initiative that we're starting so we're trying to think of ways that we can expand our product and allow other teams at LinkedIn to be able to utilize our products we wanted to in the future add more features add more products just add more things so that we can service more people in the company so this is kind of like a project where I'll be talking to different teams different PMS different people in the company to just see if there's any type of way that they could potentially leverage our product and like things that we can add to our products in the future so I'm actually really excited about this because I feel like it's definitely giving PM is it giving p.m it's giving program manager or like it's giving something program manager product manager is give me one of the two my boss definitely thinks that one of my strengths is like communication so I communicate really well with stakeholders I'm actually mostly in charge of like the bridge between engineers and like our users so I host stakeholder meetings to get feedback a lot of the users they'll come to me when they need when they have questions or have feedback things like that and I kind of like take that information and take it to like our Tech lead and other Engineers on the team so I actually really like doing that type of work because it's kind of giving like you know like product management a little bit and I didn't know that I liked this but since it's been happening um I just realized that I would like it so I'm excited about this party my boss put me on to you know kind of expand our product yeah we're actually rolling out a feature soon and we're trying to have it out by tomorrow so I'm actually in the process of implementing the ux design and I'll speak more about that later what that's like um and in between meetings I'm going to be actually writing code and trying to implement this new feature that we're trying to have completed by tomorrow after work I have that Thanksgiving meeting that's what you guys about I'm super excited for um and I'll probably like in work around like 5 30 so that I can get dressed and try to head out of the house by like six so normally I do not have four meetings normally I only have like one or two meetings a day that was my whole informational skill you guys really liked my informational School my last video so I'm trying to keep this video as informative as possible um but yeah so let me get started on some work and also start eating my Waffle House and I'll catch you guys later with another debrief okay so I'm in bed because my body is honestly so sore that I just want to be going to be super comfortable most days when I work from home I either work from my bed or I work for my living room like on my couch so this morning I just been working on this project that I'm working on which um I'm just implementing the ux design and then also I had to write I'm like writing a bunch of documentation and just responding to things um I also had to do some edits for this article that's coming out soon um that I'll be featured on and then also I had to write a couple pieces of feedback it's performance review cycle so we normally like go around and we give feedback to each other and um I was requested a few times I still have more people who I need to provide feedback for hopefully my team meeting is quick usually it is like in and out but we'll see hey guys hey julonna um and I think I think our Zoom has has a problem okay so I've had two meetings so far um I had my team meeting which I told you guys about sorry I didn't really couldn't record obviously but I had we just did like quick syncs um I also got some updates from our uxd which is really cool additionally after that we did have to use our testing meeting and like I said that meeting is basically for us to go over the current you know since we're about to go in beta mode we just kind of want to watch one of our users kind of just use the product to just see what they start to like what they do naturally on the product that way we can kind of understand how exactly users are using the product because like we know how we would use the products because we built it but we want to see like what is a natural process for our users to utilize the products so like how would they perform some of the actions that we have available in the product that was about 30 minutes actually kind of went over a little bit okay so first things first so that you guys aren't confused when I talk about things I'm going to talk about some of the tools that I use so I definitely use um a lot of typescript so typescript is basically a super set of JavaScript so you have JavaScript and then typescript kind of extends JavaScript so everything that you can normally type in JavaScript you can also use in typescript but I think that the the biggest features in typescript is that like it allows typing given the name so it really emphasizes the need for typing actually and it forces it so um for example anytime you're writing a variable you kind of have to Define what the types are that's going to that variable so if I'm having if I have a variable to list out all of the urls I will have the variable name URLs and then I have I would have to then declare that that variable is a array of strings so that's just like an example it also kind of like um I think this is like that's like the main point is is for typing in an also object oriented programming react is very popular industry-wise so if you're looking to get into threat and software engineering definitely you know try to figure out some projects on your own or through a class that's using reacts I use Visual Studio code to write my code um and then when I'm looking at designs and things like that I'm looking at those designs in a product called figma so figma is where my user experience designer will kind of create the user interface in High Fidelity and wireframe designs if you don't know what that is I might explain it a little later how front and software engineering typically works if you're on like a full stack team that has a designer so we have our requirements for the products right okay so those are kind of picked up before the quarter even starts basically we have a user experience designer and I've talked about this role a lot especially if you're curious about what a user experience or user interface designer does make sure you check out my creative careers in Tech videos so if you are someone who's really creative this would be a really good role for you to break into Tech our user experience designer will basically do like user research user research can be a separate position but in a lot of cases user research user experience and user interface design is all welcome to one so she does like user research she understands the product requirements she talks to our potential users and just kind of figures out what we need other products so then she takes that information and then she designs what's called a wireframe and so with the wireframe that kind of just is like a high level user experience like document that kind of just showcases how the product will be used like how the product kind of will flow from there it should also provide a high fertility design so the hyperdelic design is a design that looks most like the actual product so it should literally look like an exact replica of what the products will look like so that is the design that I take as a friend and software engineer and I implement it I see that we need to be able to edit or view or create or whatever whatever the functions are that I'm working on so right now I'm kind of working on a diff view if you've heard of like GitHub and you've seen okay a better example that everyone might know of is like Google Docs kind of similar to what you see in Google Docs where if a user types where if a user has a paragraph and they make changes to that paragraph you'll be able to see the things that they add in green the things that they deleted and read and then the things that stay the same will be like the regular font I'm actually making a feature in one of our in one of the products one of the internal products I'm working on that kind of just shows like differences between you know that allows the user to see the differences between the changes that they're that they're making once I look at the High Fidelity design I can see what components I will need to make this design so you might have cards or you might have input boxes or search bars or buttons or icons all of those icons that we use at my company since I'm working in react react is the primary framework that I use and so at my company when we work in react we use ant design so and design is public it's open source Library that's available to anybody so if you want to take a look at that and just see what kind of you know things I'll use so yeah I take and design and I um find the components that she's using in the user interface design and then I Implement them into our product so obviously I make it work visually but I also have to make it actually function so if in her design she has a down a button that when you click it it downloads something I have to add that capability to the product if she has a feature that when you search it searches through a list of something like I have to add that capability so I take her use her interface design implement it in the actual product and then I actually make it work I'm mostly working like the visual things but as far as like databases or any like complex algorithms that is what is handled by the back end so I also work very closely with the back ends that was long spell so now that I've gave you guys that still um I am going to continue to do my work and just continue to implement this design and then I have another meeting in like 30 minutes before I do that though I really am really tired today so I'm about to go get some matcha well I'm about to make some matcha so let's go to my kitchen I'm actually trying something new this time so I usually use I usually use regular milk but I was like I really like when my matcha is like thick and creamy so I got the extra creamy oat milk instead today so I'm really excited to try this out and see how I like it um so first I'm gonna put some ice in My Cup where are my milk and my in both cups okay so I'm gonna take my little teaspoon I'm actually gonna put a lot of matcha in there because I want it to be really substancy brown sugar and recently I've been put in what's this cinnamon in here let's see I love me so much y'all like whew I could only eat this every day or drink I guess then I'm gonna take my little baby father oh whoops and then prop this up child this just is slowly all over the place okay okay so I'm just gonna pour it in here it's a little full move your strings out for the milk this right now looks so good [Music] so delicious absolutely delicious so I am back in my living room because I just need to change the scenery so my matcha I'm bringing my little table this thing oh over here as well [Music] so I'm actually about to watch the data audience so my team got selected to present a demonstration so I'm really happy about that data arguments it's like everybody that's in data in AI so it's actually a pretty big deal to be able to have our work showcase there and it's really exciting because like I said when I started on this project it was nothing like it was at the beginning so we built this from scratch so it was really nice to see that month later months later we're finally you know going to Beta mode and getting recognition work wide so that's pretty cool um I also had the opportunity to create the demo video for my team since they know that I'm like a Creator so I'm really excited to see like thank you thank you wait how do I pause this and y'all I was a finalist for a community award that is so cute I'm gonna show y'all no actually I really can't show y'all but so freaking cute I didn't win the award but the fact that I'm a finalist is just so nice I really didn't even know that like I knew my boss nominated me for something but I had no idea that it was for the data AI all hands like that is pretty big wow so let me just read what the a word was so it says that like basically they were describing I can't like I can't like um I can't play the recording because it's an internal meeting but basically that was describing you know like people a lot of people talk about LinkedIn I think I work for for you know our good culture and stuff like that so like the community the community award is really important because it speaks on our culture and like our values and so it says that the community award is basically someone who positively supports their teammates and the greater data org to improve and achieve their goals that is like so thoughtful it's so sweet I'm really I'm lucky bless you this is so cute okay now I'm watching the the demo that I created I'm watching my tech lead like present and like describe what it is that we're doing and then after that he's gonna play the demo I don't know yeah I don't know why he's talking to me when I see something that I created like on the screen like so cute once we press the gai icon okay y'all I actually have a meeting in like a few minutes so I'm about to join that and I'm going to explain what the meeting is in a second after the meeting because I don't really have time at work I'm about to tell you about it while I'm getting dressed maybe I'll FaceTime you but um I'm working right now so I can't go into the whole story but this meeting was basically kind of like what I described earlier where like um we're looking for like potential uses for our products and trying to see how we can like explain our product add more features to it so that it's more usable um to other people who work in the company the first meeting and so it was me um the ux designer and then my boss actually joined the meeting as well to talk to one of the potential stakeholders and I'm really happy that my boss joined because I was able to kind of see like what kind of questions I should be asking and like you know just how to handle those meetings moving forward so it was a good work day it's five o'clock your girl is about to get ready for this event I I'm already showered as y'all saw let me take my shower earlier so now I'm actually about to start getting dressed I'm about to start getting dressed quickly do my makeup I'll probably sit on FaceTime I don't think I'm Really Gonna Show me getting dressed that much so I'll just show it to you guys when I'm all out okay I'm back so I'm all dressed let me back up I have this like dress it has like a little bit of a slit I like the slit is like flexible so I lowered it a little bit and then I'm carrying my my little Louis Vuitton bag um and I just have on some sandals on my feet um so that is like my little outfits I feel like I look super cute effortless I'm on FaceTime but yeah 636 I must have picked up my best friend I feel like I look so cute is it giving it's giving it's giving it it's giving and they're looking at these so cute hi my hair looks cute you want to hear highlight room and show it off got a new body girl show it all it's a Brazil thank you [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] what are you doing [Music] I want to say spot number two [Laughter] um this area is like name Tech you know like that was it like your name yeah where you work etc because I'd be willing to connect with more like software engineers and I only met one engineer I don't know what this means but anyway we're about to go to Kebab land to just get some food Etc and we're meeting Lauren there and then after that I need to go home and clean it's 9 30 well almost 9 30 so it's prickly I probably don't have to clean tomorrow but my friends coming in town tomorrow so I need to prepare for that a little bit hopefully I have time tonight thank you that's just big old lemons honestly I
