hey guys welcome to my channel I'm jelana and if you've been here before welcome back Sis today we're going to be talking about tech careers for Creative people so one thing about the tech industry there are a lot of different careers within Tech every career is not super technical there are some careers that require no code at all there are careers for people who are creative there are careers people who love to plan people who love to talk people who love to collaborate there's all types of careers out there and it's all about just finding the one that you feel most comfortable with I'm a pretty creative person and I'm a front-end software engineer and I feel like this was the perfect balance between me being a technical person but then me also being able to you know express myself creatively so I'm going to dive into a few more careers like that within this video so without further Ado let's get into it foreign [Music] so the first career path is UI ux and I feel like this is one of the most creative career pads within a tech industry if you're a person who loves design who loves to create who loves all things visual this is definitely the career for you so what exactly is UI ux let's dive a little bit deeper into that the user experience designer is responsible for creating an optimal experience anytime a user is interacting with a digital product or a physical product the ux designer focuses on like the overall experience how easy is it to navigate a website how easy is it to purchase a product are there too many things on the page that are distracting are there things that disrupt the user experience are there too many pop-ups are there too many clicks are there too many buttons it's just like overall the overall user experience how a user feels when they are using this product is the responsibility of the ux designer on top of the user experience we also have the user interface the user interface designer focuses on the visual aspect of the products they decide what elements are used to execute the user experience design so basically the user experience designer will figure out the overall experience for a user and the user interface designer will come in and figure out the visual aspects of that experience so what buttons are being used what are the colors that are being used what types of colors are being used on the web page and where so they really go hand in hand a lot of times these rows are grouped together until around row called UI USD so a lot of times those rows are grouped together into one row where you'll be responsible for the Lo-Fi or the low Fidelity design which is usually the wireframes and the user flows as well as the Hi-Fi or High Fidelity design which are the prototypes and the ready to use mock-ups so another great example to differentiate the user experience versus the user interface is the classic ketchup bottle example so you have the user interface which is more so concerned with the visual appeal the aesthetic you know how it looks sitting on the shelf and things like that then you have user experience that comes in and says well is that bottle actually practical is it easy for users to utilize you know are we going to have complaints about the ketchup coming out slow or not being able to come out at all although the glass bottle looks very nice and Sleek it's just not really easy to use so yeah that's it for UI ux now we're going to dive into marketing marketing is very very Broad and there's a lot of different opportunities that you can take advantage of within the marketing industry and I also want to preface this by saying that a lot of these roles I'm about to mention in the marketing field can be combined and a lot of marketing roles can be very ambiguous you can kind of be doing a lot of different things I have so many friends that are in marketing and they are all doing completely different things so there's definitely a role out there for you if this is something that you're interested in but let's dive into the three areas of marketing that I'm going to talk about for today the first area is digital marketing digital marketers develop marketing campaigns for businesses and organizations to help those businesses increase brand awareness and consumer interest these campaigns can be held across a number of digital media such as social media email online blogs online ads there's literally so many options for digital marketing it's basically all types of marketing through digital products this area is growing so much because as technology and increases the need for marketing on digital products or digital platforms has increased as well depending on the company that you work for this world can look like a lot of different things you could be developing campaigns you can be working with influencers like if you think about how things have changed so much influencer marketing is marketing now like a lot of companies rely on influencers to promote their products so the next area is product marketing a product marketing manager can have a lot of different responsibilities depending on the role in the company they can be responsible for working closely with sales to make sure that the product is being sold or going to Market correctly and they are also responsible for developing new marketing tools and campaigns in order to attract new customers and new prospects product marketing managers can also use digital marketing strategies to promote their campaigns or push out their products and things like that that's why I kind of said earlier that a lot of marketing roles do kind of overlap like sometimes they are very ambiguous and it really does depend on the company that track the coolest campaign that I've ever seen was this Google Nest campaign it was literally just randomly in Chicago I was walking home from work one day and there were people outside like hey do you want to come inside and Putt-Putt so I'm like okay sure I walk in and there's this huge miniature golf set up in each of the stations like each of the different holes were set up as if it was like a house so there was like a miniature living room or like a miniature kitchen a garage bedroom and things like that and so the ideal behind the campaign was for you to be able to play golf but also see how the Google Nest works and I thought at the time that that was so interesting I feel like being a product marketing manager over something so creative would be so cool to be able to just oversee things like that the last part of marketing that I want to talk about which I feel like is not talked about enough is marketing analytics so if you're like a Savvy mathy sciencey person but you also really enjoy the creative thing as well I think marketing analytics is a great place for you to be an analytical person but be inside of that marketing creative space a lot of companies use data to decide what they should do with their products marketing analysts help companies make major marketing decisions about what customers they should sell their product to where should they sell these products and how they're going to sell those products marketing analysts analyze marketing Trends and they study the effectiveness of the campaigns or marketing strategies that are being implemented so yeah we have this cool Google Nest campaign but is it actually effective did this make people purchase is this worth the money to do it again next year or do it again somewhere else so marketing analysts makes sure that the company's money is actually being well spent when it comes to campaigns and advertising they will help Define what a successful campaign even is this was actually the area that I was most interested in when I graduated college because my bachelor's is focused in mathematics marketing and computer science with the math and marketing I feel like this would be a great way to combine both of them I think this field is super interesting if you're in data analytics because it's kind of like data analytics but you're in a more creative space the data that you're looking at is more so about campaigns and Effectiveness and brand awareness and things like that using quantitative data to figure out if a company's marketing strategies are successful so last but not least obviously we have to talk about software engineering but on the front and side this out of all the rows is definitely the most technical because it does require a lot of coding however I feel like it does have a Sprinkle of creativity because you are working on the front end and you're working so close with the UI ux design it's honestly always difficult for me to explain the differences between the UI ux and the front end but basically if you look at the UI ux that is pretty much the design of the products the front end engineer which is myself we take the design and actually make it functional so we actually make it so that when you click the button something happens we take that design and we implement it so we're pretty much doing everything that's on the front end except coming up with the actual design so we use languages such as JavaScript HTML and CSS to bring the things that are in the UI ux design to life a lot of times depending on the company so if you're working on a smaller company or even on a smaller team sometimes your front end role will have a little bit of UI ux design so on my last team since we were kind of like a piloting team we are we're a small team but we owned a lot of different products we didn't have a specific UI ux designer so me as a front-end engineer if I were to ever come out with a new feature for our product I would actually have to design it first show the team my design see how they feel about it and then I would implement the design in the real product so depending on the role you could be doing a little bit of design the team that I'm on now we actually have a UI ux designer so I work very closely with her get the designs from her and then I Implement them the thing that I just love about our role is that I feel like I'm a creative person person but I'm not too too creative like I can come up with designs and things like that but it's not something that I would want to do full time if that makes sense I just love how I have the opportunity to take the designs that I receive and give high level feedback so if I disagree on a design or if I feel like something else should be added since I am like an aesthetically like visual person I'm able to provide feedback to the UI ux design and have her iterate over the times so I really like that I work super closely with the design but I don't necessarily have to design it all the time but then there's times like recently my boss asked me to make a mock-up of something where I could design it myself so in this case I will be designing a feature all by myself I won't have a UI ux designer so it's like I enjoy designing in moderation but I wouldn't want to do it like full time you know like every project here and there is fine but I kind of want to stick to the technical part I just feel like it's the perfect balance because since you are writing code you are using JavaScript it does require a lot of logic and high level thinking and it really does push you to think critically when you you are working on your projects people always ask me like do you code all day and it's like I don't code all day because sometimes I am doing things like giving feedback on the design or I might be communicating with stakeholders to clarify you know their their needs for this product to make sure that it aligns with what I have planned for the product there's a lot of different things that goes into working on the front end depending on the team that you're on but I feel like personally the front end is just such a great balance if you consider yourself a very technical you know mathie logical like nerdy kind of person but you also have a little bit of creativity and if this is something that you're interested in and you want to figure out how I did it I definitely have a video that I will link below um about how I broke into software engineering okay so that's it for the video I hope that you enjoy the roles that we discussed today and if there are any roles that you feel like I left out or any roles that you're in yourself and you want me to talk about that more or you want to just share with my audience let me know in the comments below and if you you watch this video and you're ready to get started and you don't know where the heck to get started make sure that you watch my video about how to get started into Tech because that'll give you
