this is a gaming keyboard actually make you a better gamer this is the question I've actually wanted to set up an answer today so in this video we have three different keyboards one is very cheap nasty shouldn't be very good for gaming at all one is a bit more mid-range should do a very good job it's got a few bells and whistles and then the other is well the complete package fully mechanical it's got everything really that you could wish for under the Sun but is this actually going to translate into a better gaming experience and more points more frags more kills this is what we could be answering today so we're going to start then with this it's the Microsoft media center keyboard that I actually use pretty much on the daily basis in the living room downstairs just more for logging into my PC a little bit of basic web browsing but it is very functional it does everything that I had wanted to do it works as a keyboard has actually got a trackpad built into it as well so you can move the mouse it's completely wireless something all 200 pound keyboard doesn't even have but it doesn't exactly feel the nicest thing in the world to use it works but it's not necessarily something I'd want to do a lot of typing on or dare I say a lot of gaming predictions wise I think that actually the results might vary a little bit and I think it's gonna feel a lot worse but I think in terms of actual performance it's not gonna make too much difference because this is a wireless one we're working into the top of our computer and unlike the top-end wireless gaming keyboards this is going to be a little bit slow in terms of response time which might mean that when you press a button it doesn't register in game as quickly as the others they again will this make that much of a difference I would say in theory yes but in practicality maybe not we're gonna use Apex legends and we're gonna try smite and we've already run into a little bit of a problem with this non gaming keyboard and that all of the function keys require you to actually press FN down otherwise you get like sleep for f4 so at the moment I'm holding down a load of keys just actually unlock the abilities down the bottom which if you were gonna play this game properly would be completely and utterly useless it's not too bad in terms of basic economics for lwas and deaq I'm pleasantly surprised in that regard I don't think I'm going to have any big problems there but it's quite lightweight you see so it does move around it's definitely not designed for gaming but clearly as you can see we are getting some basic gaming done and I'm about to die because I'm talking to the camera I used to be like really addicted to smite actually this was always my game but it's definitely been quite a long time as you can probably tell the thing that really does surprise me though about this keyboard is the fact that like the more basic use so actually just playing the game feels very natural to me it's only the fact that I can't use the function keys properly that is really driving me mad but obviously I could rebind these it's wireless it's not gaming it shouldn't be used for this but at the same time I think the sort person that probably would use this keyboard for this sort of application is the sort person that doesn't really have a choice we going oh I'm gonna die now I cocked it up okay this is definitely the bit I've not been looking forward to playing apex with the Microsoft media keyboard but needs must and it's just feels weird it's it's not right I mean the shift look at the shift that is so small there is barely anything to press at all but I mean to be fair it works it feels very spongy and a bit horrible but it works it's not as not quite so bad as I thought and as well like there's no latency problems I mean look you move but it's wireless wireless for 18 pounds 99 Bahgat hold on a minute have we come to a limitation here I'm holding down there you go I was holding down quite a lot of keys and it completely stopped registering so it was not actually registering there ee press clearly there is a limitation to the receiver and how many buttons you can press it once so in actual fact this keyboard is not appropriate at all it's not very good but I can still get the kill because I am good now I'm great oh whoa whoa whoa next up we have this it's Corsairs que 57 and this is a mid-range keyboard that costs around about 75 80 pounds at the moment for Amazon links by the way for everything are listed down below and as you can tell this is very much more of a gaming keyboard we've got that sweet r2b lighting behind every key so it looks the business it's full size you've got a number pad you've got media controls plate pause all of that great stuff the only thing about this though is that it's not fully mechanical this is actually a rubber dome switch keyboard so when you push down the keys it's it doesn't necessarily feel spongy but it's not quite as nice to use there's a mechanical keyboard but this is definitely aimed at people that want to have all of the features of a high-end keyboard but aren't so fast about the feel you can immediately see that it is a lot bigger on the desk and should in theory be more comfortable it doesn't move around as much as the other one which is very good you've got adjustability you can go up you can go down and because this is a Corsair keyboard then that will mean that it will actually sync up with anything else that you've got in your suite so in terms of RGB lighting you're very much covered there but the main things really is that you've got the macro keys that you can assign you've got the much deeper travel so everything should feel a whole lot more comfortable and I really love that you get both the volume keys and the media controls so that when you're in game and you want to listen to music it is very easy to do so but will it actually give us some more kills deaths and assists in the games let's find out this time starting with battlefield 5 tell you what as well this game looks so much better than all of the other time used to pub G apex fortnight it's so much better than the Microsoft one actually being able to press down those keys and just have your fingers resting it may not give you a competitive advantage sure but if you're going to be sitting at your desk playing games for hours on end I really don't think I could do it with the Microsoft one very easily at all whereas clearly this is in differently completely even if you don't care about any of the RGB features or any of the more gamer e macro keys or anything like that this is a very comfortable keyboard to use it's very easy to operate as well and having larger keys versus that chiclet style anyway at least for me makes such a big difference it's it's a joy to use it really is No we got four bullets oh no it's all over it's all over it's not mechanical and I think this was apparent throughout its use is definitely it doesn't feel as nice as a lot of the high-end gaming keyboards I've used in terms of the actual key presses and just what it feels like to game on but other than that that's not really that much I can fought about it it looks great it's gone all the keys and all the buttons really that I think I would need obviously you get the advantage that it is completely wireless but I was using it wired there but to be honest with you I think most people will probably want to look for a mechanical keyboard and you don't have to go for one that's as expensive as this I think if I was buying one personally I'd probably get one that maybe dumbs down the RGB a little bit if we can now find the correct Oh little USB socket no idea what that's gone that is that it's gone somewhere now so if the Canon t4i platinum XT you can see you've got this cool little light bar at the top you've got perky RGB lighting it really does look the business you've got the stream deck keys that you can assign on the left-hand side or just use them as normal macro keys but most of these features can be found on cheaper keyboards it's mainly because you've got these cherry MX speeds which is within the keyboard itself it's very expensive to put them in every key but they've done it here and that is what you are paying for so let's play it my favourite game APICS legends and let's see if this really does allow me to get more kills or at least feel a lot more comfortable getting them the speed switch I'm not sure if it's my personal favorite but it definitely is the quickest and what I mean by that is as soon as you so much as press the K even slightly it activates so before you actually bottomed out you actually do get the activation effect so what you press on the keyboard actually of course changes something in game whether that's moving forward or picking up on weapon etc etc so it takes quite a while to actually get used to this it's a very very comfortable keyboard to use once you've got used to it anyway oh yes garnets one the reason that I'm not exactly crazy shall we say about RGB lighting on keyboards isn't because it doesn't look good it's just because I think that when it comes to gaming the thing that really matters is obviously what's going on on the screen and how connected you are to it making sure that you obviously can play your best game and RGB is very easy to market it's very easy to show off or one of these cool features because they look great on camera they look good in adverts and all of those things but when it actually comes to playing a game it's obviously the the feel that makes the biggest amount of difference and it's very difficult to market that a lot of people will go for the one that's pretty oh yes some see like even while filming I'm just naturally talented at this game this is this is why you subscribe isn't it for this level of skills right the time is now quarter past 6:00 in the afternoon and I've been going through my testing I've been trying to keep everything as fair as possible it does actually indeed makes such a big difference as to what keyboard you're using for different sorts of games reaction time is going to actually be dictated in part by the keyboard which means that if you do have a better more expensive gaming keyboard in something like this then it could genuinely give you a competitive advantage of that I am confident however the amount of competitive and your guests that you're going to gain purely from having a better keyboard I don't think is necessarily enough to make anyone go out there and buy a gaming keyboard solely for that reason but being able to play games more comfortably is a big reason to buy a new keyboard for sure it does make a huge amount of difference to me to be a actually sit at a desk like this for hours on end and be comfortable having a screen for example this big is not very comfortable it's not something I want to do for a prolonged period of time likewise using a keyboard there is going to be moving about all the time one where you can't comfortably actually use it for that prolonged period of time doesn't make sense if you are looking at getting a new keyboard whether it's a super cheap Microsoft Media one that's not at all what appropriate for gaming or a 200-pound keyboard that's perfect for gaming I've realized that it is much much more important that you know what the strengths of the different keyboards are learn a little bit more about mechanical switches because actually this k95 that uses the speed switches I've now realized that I don't think personally I like them as much as something like a chair and mechs Brown or even a Kay or red switch for me it's just a little bit too easy to press the key that's gonna help in some games but it's not gonna be ideal for everything well maybe you should consider something like this that isn't necessarily going to give you the benefits of a full mechanical switch but has all of the other features and if that's what you prioritize more than the actual feel of the key switch itself then maybe that's what we should look at will a gaming keyboard make you a better gamer well I can't say scientifically yes or no but based on my experience today I can say to be honest it's very unlikely if you've enjoyed this video please hit the like button it really does help out I do you want to do more videos in this style perhaps looking at gaming monitors and gaming mice so what is the best way to test those scientifically I'd love to hear your thoughts so let me know down in that comment section below as I say get subscribed hit that like button if you've enjoyed it it really helps out links to all of these keyboards as well as everything in my set up are linked down below for you thanks for watching I'll see in the next one [Applause] [Music]
