WHY You should ROPE a DUMMY

[Music] hey everybody good morning how're you doing today you ever sleep on your neck wrong and it just about knocks you to your knees whenever you move a certain direction or raise your arm in the air that is exactly the way I feel today you can see I'm holding my head pretty still well that's why my neck is killing me this morning it's radiating all the way down my arm it hurts like a mama bear anyway let's go up to Shumway i've got cattle in the krail up there that I left in the krail from yesterday that I need to haul down here my two horses are up there I need to go catch them and get them hauled down here and saddled and we're gonna rope today I hope I can I hope I can swing a rope anyway we're gonna try it we got work to do so let's go well Kent's got all the good on there I had to leave the back end open from a horse's so we'll turn these cattle back out in this little pasture right here and leave them this will be what we do tomorrow these and the others that are out there [Music] I've got the trailer here they're not wanting to come very fast they are coming though oh man my neck is killing me I don't know what I'm gonna do today oh hey what do you know huh hey so that was fun Kevin glad you could join us on our show today Amy and I certainly like it when people come up to us wherever we're at stop us and introduce themselves to us tell us that they watch we really like that so Kevin welcome today we're glad you were with us okay I had to make a little stop at the store and now we are headed to the house [Music] this is like the NFR for Shawn and I and we're gonna win it because we're the only ones that showed up sometimes it's a booger getting help so we'll do what we can do until maybe a little more help shows up [Music] hey so I got the old vintage water truck started up we're gonna go get a little water stick on this arena real quick hello dusty I always open that and drain this tank when I'm done using it so when I start filling and I kind of let it run and let it clean the rust out of that home check it out I put a new hose on the back of this tank so I can watch it fill another one if you'll remember I broke it and then I had to tape it up so I went the other day and bought a new piece of plastic hose and stuck on there makes it a lot better okay so it's lunchtime Josiah here said he was starving right we are the are starving Kyle was pulling in to help us so we're shutting his rig down the boss back here right there there's the boss are you the boss you're not the boss why what's up Kyle what you gonna order I'm not in order anything yeah you already eaten what do you get - carne asada bro hurry eat your breakfast so this is my second meal here today I'm eating here for supper green chili paste the lunch was great we're back to Ropin Kyle showed up he's gonna help us today and I gave him my rope so I came over here to the tack room to grab another one and the gloves because he needed a rope in the glove so I'm gonna grab me another rope and the glove will get back at all cus Pratt there's cus Pratt wants to be known throughout the whole land is cus Pratt [Music] yeah that's my cousin Brad right there he just missed one nice job Brad all right here's my boy Kyle he might not catch cuz he's a truck driver [Music] okay famous last words here up the front leg the steer tries to run left so we're gonna haze him here a little bit [Music] all right here's Kent he's my cousin too the only ones here that aren't related to him here Josiah and Shawn all right he was my cousin but he's not anymore Shawn you want to be my cousin I'm gonna sort some cattle here real quick by myself if I can't and these ones with the horn wraps on them we want to take them back up and rope them and get the wraps off I got one steer in here without a horn wrap on that I want out and this is when you're short and cattle by yourself you just gotta be patient let them work their way out I think I'm about to get him right here that one's not cooperating kick him back no it's not one without the rap we'll come right down the fence this is a good little exercise in being patient right here just waiting him out they come back to get him right here dr. giddy see there I just waited him out hey I'd make up the camera well the cameras off you guys miss everybody misses with the cameras on all right here glance [Music] camera [Music] Shawn you ought to be my cousin it's what Terry O'Neill calls keep him down helium dirty hey so my son Kyle he is a trucker because that's what he does pretty much full-time and he's got this old blue Peterbilt shined up and looking pretty snazzy Wow that's the same paint job but I think he's waxed on it it looks pretty good now another thing he did he perked a vinyl floor in it and I think I'm gonna have him put one in mine I kind of like that yeah and like that floor time to do chores and feed those hungry cattle we've been roping [Music] [Music] [Music] go grab one more load of water to put on the arena so that tomorrow it's not quite as dry when we get started [Music] let's go see what Amy's doing what's she doing what is that this could be a frustrating game right here it's a little bit like golf cept uh this is harder there you going you didn't even drop a coil that was the deal right there that was the one check out the difference right here from the way Brad was throwing to the way he's throwing now and it's just taking him like 15 minutes right here with us great minds that are sitting around here telling what to do there you go that's it I saw the main thing about roping like that right there is it's muscle memory so what you want to do now is is take that skill that you just learned and do it like 20 times today and just kind of plan on I'm going to catch it every single time and then pretty soon it just becomes memory I mean it just becomes common there you go hey so another thing Brad was doing was he was dropping a coil and so then whenever he would throw this rope whether he was a long ways away his long ways away it's alright but if he was close he had too much slack in between him and his hand that he had to deal with before he could dally and go left so we've been trying to get him to not drop that coil or not even make that coil small or keep three big coils in your hand perfect we've been working on Brad here for 30 minutes and if you can remember what he looked like when we first started we're gonna show you what he's looking like now we've got him tucking his rope up under his arm sticking his hand out there like he's ready to throw or swing swinging his first swing like his last swing pushing his left hand forward what's this how about that here's the thing about Brad well he stood down here and we and he had his rope in his hand he was teachable we could we could tell him what to change and he changed it because he knew what we were gonna tell him was gonna help him improve his ability and his odds of catching so all of us in our lives I'm speaking to myself mostly right here we can be more teachable in everything we do somebody has something to show us listen to him it might be a way better way to do it than the way that we've been doing it that's it right there you can't rope the dummy any better than that right there that was perfect here's the main thing and I and I'm guilty of this myself when people were trying to show me or tell me what we were telling Brad I was like hey I'm catching I catch the way I throw so why do I need to change it but when I did listen and changed it like Brad just did man I became so much better at my ability to catch my odds of catching panelling my rope better panel and the steer better that's it we had a great afternoon right here in this shade flake
