fun what fun so the rumors are true Darth Maul lives formerly Darth not just more formally Darth now just Maul does this line from Star Wars Rebels revealed the truth as to why Darth Maul gave up possession of the legendary darksaber greetings acolytes of the force and welcome back to the archives the dark saber is one of the most mysterious weapons in all of Star Wars lore and certainly one of the most perplexing lightsabers its extensive history reveals a great truth about the weapon while lightsabers require Force sensitivity to be properly wielded the darksaber exchanges that requirement with a different one that being that its owner and wielder follows its Creed the weapon has something of a will of its own and one that follows a key set of rules which determines the worthiness of the wielder no being can properly own the darksaber unless they win it by Fair trial by combat against the previous owner and after winning it many must work with the weapon instead of against it this particular rule is something of a mystery though as it has not yet been fully revealed what it means to work with or against the dark saber and what the parameters are exactly this is just something told to denjarin by the armorer when she was training him to wield the weapon all we do know is that when one doesn't align themselves with the darksaber or if the saber deves them unworthy for any reason it becomes heavy and unruly to use this is what many along with us here at The Archives have speculated happened to Darth Maul as when we see him in Star Wars Rebels he has forfeited all ownership and right to the darksaber simply keeping it at his Hideout and letting it collect dust as a small artifact in a previous holocron we talked about before what happened that made Maul stop using the darksaber but today we wanted to figure out exactly why and reveal that the darksaber just like dinjarin rejected Maul why did the darksaber suddenly deem Darth Maul unworthy and why did it turn against him after the conclusion of the Clone War before we begin though we have noticed there have been a few ships passing through our station that have not yet registered within our systems so if you are one of these passing vessels be sure to subscribe before you head out so that you may be updated when we post holocrons just like this one now acolytes let us begin in order to fully figure out why the darksaber turned against Maul we need to figure out or at least speculate why the darksaber gets heavy when one uses it if they are deemed unworthy the criteria for worthiness is currently rather vague but when we analyze both instance of someone training with the darksaber we can peer into what the weapon considers a worthy wielder when Sabine Wren was training with Kanan jarus she remarked that the saber was extremely heavy but that it got lighter as she learned to work with the blade rather than against it as the young Jedi taught her denjarin is also currently learning this the hard way as he is trained by the armorer but very briefly during the training the armor revealed that din was fighting against the blade rather than along with its will which was causing him to lose control both Kanan and the armorer had incredibly vital pieces of information which they gave their students in return from Kanan he says this you're not fighting me you're fighting yourself and you're losing and from the armorer she stated you are fighting against the blade you should be fighting against your opponent you are too weak to fight the blade you will lose you cannot control it with your strength it was only after Sabine was goaded by Kanan into letting out the truth and being honest with herself by expressing her anger and her real feelings at her past did she actually learn to control the dark saber did Jaron at this time was still incredibly conflicted with leaving grogu with Luke he wasn't sure what kind of a person he wanted to be and how he wanted to make his way in the Galaxy currently he still isn't as even though he has grogu by his side again he feels like he needs the children of the watch in order to feel whole and to feel like he has a place and an identity though he's still lying to himself and apparently can't decide whether he wants to just be one in a dozen Mandalorian helmets or if he should be the ruler of all of Mandalore we think that the key here is the darksaber will only respond to those who are true to themselves it may sound a bit trite but if you think about it it makes a lot of sense the saber has decidedly sacrificed the need for its users to be Force sensitive in order to wield it something that is common in all other lightsabers in exchange though they must have a focused mind and be honest with themselves and exactly who they are as long as they do this they will be able to fight with the darksaber and contend with the likes of force sensitives this is why we see people like previousla going toe-to-toe with someone like Maul and Sabine having actually defeated Kanan in a sparring session however this is a double-edged sword unlike being Force sensitive and wielding a lightsaber our theory is that the darksaber will revoke its privileges to those who are conflicted and conflicted about their Identity or are living a lie within themselves and this applies to everyone who chooses to wield the weapon Force sensitive or not for this is the way of the darksaber but back to Maul Maul originally had everything he needed in order to wield the weapon effectively he knew exactly who he was and was not a problematic with it at all some theorized that the darksaber turned against Maul because of his unstable lust for power but we don't believe that it's all that simple the darksaber didn't seem to mind being wielded by previousla who had a massive ego and even bigger plans for Domination the darksaber in my opinion is unaligned to good nor evil in the case of Star Wars the light or the dark the darksaber in effect represents a balance and a neutrality within the force that focuses on the balance of the individual Maul was perfectly balanced in the fact that he was a Sith with great prospects of leading Mandalore against the empire or at least preserving it and building his own Empire From the Ashes of Mandalore his lust for power was what actually kept him in balance with himself the dark side and the dark saber but that balance would drastically tip the moment that he lost everything spoilers lie ahead for the son of dathomir comicron in season 5 of The Clone Wars Darth Maul was on top of the world quite literally he had just conquered Mandalore rid himself of most of his Rivals and drove out the Republic as well as dealt a lethal personal blow to his greatest enemy by slaying the one that Obi-Wan loved the most right in front of his eyes everything though Came Crashing Down all at once when he was visited by Sidious who would proceed to kill his brother in front of him in an operatic turning of the tables Sidious then would humiliate his former Apprentice by totally dominating him in their duel and then torturing him in captivity Maul would eventually escape to death watch however Sidious would send General Grievous after him and the mandalorians with the separatists killing dozens of Death Watch in the process and then Maul would have to watch his mother be killed right before his eyes and subsequently watch his Empire crumble as the Pikes and the black Sun Syndicate left his influence and soon Maul would even lose control over Mandalore after being captured by the Republic just prior to order 66 Darth Maul lost everything all over again he was reduced to absolutely nothing and he was feeling the pressure Maul's entire galaxy had just imploded and he had been utterly powerless to stop it as all of his failures were a result of his own mistakes and his past sins formerly Darth now just Maul roamed the Galaxy for nearly two decades before meeting Ezra and by then he was an old Kermit with nothing left but the single mind for Revenge he had even forsaken his path as a Sith claiming that the order took everything from him clearly Maul was a broken being with a shattered identity and there is absolutely no way that the dark saber would ever find him worthy not because of his failures though but because of how he responded to them he may have cast aside his Darth title but it was still every bit the Sith that he had always been he blamed his failures on everyone but himself and so the darksaber turned on him as well and this myakolites is why we believe that darksaber rejected Maul and why the death of Miriam forfeited his ownership over the blade to the point where he did not even acknowledge the weapon even referring to it as one of the trinkets from his past but anyway my friends and acolytes what are your thoughts on this what are your thoughts on the darksaber openly rejecting Darth Maul the same way it is now doing to jinjarra and do you believe that we are correct as always May the force be with you and I hope that you have a great day
