Disney is famous for making some of the most iconic villains ever made especially during the '90s when we got a lineup of baddies so good that they were almost better than the movies they were in then everything changed when the twist villains attacked it seems that Disney wanted to move to a more sophisticated kind of villain that would subvert typical expectations what we got instead was a series of boring losers and an audience that was waiting for the return of great villains leading us to King magnifico they made a big deal about him in the trailers including a tweet where Disney called him the most intimidating menacing villain they've ever made could it be are classic Disney villains finally back no buckle up people because we have some serious Insanity to cover now you might be wondering why does King magnifico deserve the title of scariest villain does he kill anybody does he instill a cruel regime upon his citizens does he commit hate crimes commit genocide eat babies no he doesn't do any of that in fact he doesn't do anything evil at all the movie literally opens with him learning how to use use magic to create a city where wishes can come true a hub for people to bring their deepest desires so he can make them reality but if a wish is deemed harmful to the community he puts it in the forever box the result of this is a community where everybody is Happy the city is thriving and everyone loves and respects him man this guy's gooder than Jesus he's literally the best thing to ever happen to this world Asha wants to be the next wish grander and the movie says that she'll be good because she truly cares about the town's people but what do they mean by TR are they implying that magnifico doesn't care because that's objectively untrue in fact later we learned that the only reason Asha wants to become his Apprentice is so that magnifico can grant her family's wishes when Asha goes to ask him to Grant her wish I actually felt kind of bad for him how awful must it be to have all of this Godlike power only for people to see you as a source for favors if anything it makes him even more selfless since he was still willing to consider asha's request despite her being so Brazen about asking it and when magnifical rejects the wish I kind of understand him asha's Grandpa's wish is to inspire the Next Generation which magnifico deems to be too vague and possibly dangerous so as protector of the city he chooses to keep it away and grants a safer wish but of course Asha says that it's wrong for him to decide that which leads to this movie's dumbest argument should King magnifico get to choose which wishes to Grant or not yes yes you should I mean what's the alternative here should magnifico just grant everybody's wishes well obviously not there would need to be a way to determine which wishes are worth granting and since he's the only one that can grant wishes why shouldn't he get to decide is the problem that he's using his own morals to make wishes well that's not true either his only rubric to deciding which wish to Grant or not is whether it will benefit the community in some way it's not like we ever see anybody suffering because of him so what's the downside oh but he's only doing this to stay in power good he's earned it he's worked hard to gain these Powers he's studied the magic and knowledge from all over the world all to be able to grab Grand people's wishes as far as I'm concerned he's the wisest and most selfless person in the world no matter which way you slice it you can't possibly call him selfish because his only motivation for everything he does is wanting to Grant people's Wishes the system he created to do it may not be perfect but I don't really know how he could make it better but it wouldn't be Disney without virtual signaling so we got to have Asha tell him how wrong he is you've got to do better Senator so anyways magnifico suddenly has this little hissy fit because the movie wants you to see him as evil then he rejects Asha as his next apprentice and honestly good ritten she is absolutely not qualified to be a wish grter then she goes to cry about it in her house and that's basically the whole conflict in this movie it's not a bad opportunity for Rasha to learn about the complexities of ruling a kingdom and having the responsibility of making important decisions for a large community but unfortunately this movie is not interested in any of that because we're instead about to see one of the greatest acts of character assassination I've ever seen from now on he's selfish egotistic iCal and constantly talks about how handsome he is I am a handsome king and when Asha tells him to Grant people's wishes he lashes out an anger like a child I decide what everyone deserves from now on the movie is literally trying to Gaslight you into thinking that magnifico is a bad guy and the length they're willing to go to do this are embarrassing I hate it when a movie forces the villain role onto a character it is so annoying to see a movie present a complicated moral argument only to make one of the SES really evil so you have to agree with the other asking who is qualified to make decisions over a community is an interesting theme but this movie is about as complicated as a Rubik's Cube painted all blue so in order to let you know who's right the movie goes I just don't get it if the movie really wanted a pure evil villain then why did you give him a backstory that tells us that everything he's doing is to help others how hard was it to just make him evil why do you need the other characters to unjustly treat him like a villain so Asha makes this wish upon a star and star the star appears making everybody happy except magnifico because he's the bad guy leading us to magnifico's villain song now I take villain songs very seriously these songs are the culmination of everything the villain is supposed to represent their motivations their personality everything about this character comes together for one delightful musical number but here we're almost halfway through the movie and he still hasn't done anything evil this song is bending over backwards to try it and make him sound like a bad person but when you actually listen to what is being said all you hear is I help people when they need me I give people Free Housing and I grant people's wishes it's trying to manipulate you into believing that he's only doing these good things to hold appearances but that doesn't matter because he's still doing good things oh but look he's kicking things around and crushing the M he's so malicious and the lyrics holy crap I don't like accusing things of being AI generated but man some of these verses make no no sense I granted 14 wishes last year that's a good percent what I thought you granted One Wish every month and what do you mean by that's a good percent that's not how numbers work passionate I'm not petulent someone praise me for my benevolence don't understand what's going on why do conservatives hate slant Ry and the chorus is just saying this is the thanks I get repeated four times what even is the motivation being expressed here he wants respect he's the king everybody loves him he has a wife he doesn't need anything but of course we need to push him to do bad things so he has to get possessed by this magic book that he has whoa whoa whoa whoa what is this book why are you using it there's no threat to you nothing has escalated to the point that he needs to use this book and what do you mean it's evil does using it make you want to do bad things the why is he using it he's already the most powerful being in the world why does he need more power didn't want to do this I swore I never do this they're a they're just a good artistic Choice like they just sound really good they came over so much development just to make him get possessed by this book which is the lamest villain motivation ever just make him do bad things how can you mess up something so simple so now magnifico is evil and he goes to Asha who so far has been uh um uh and tells her that if she doesn't give him star that he'll start breaking people's wishes then he breaks her mom's wish which gives her instant depression see we're told that the wish represents the best part of some it's their ambition to accomplish a dream and when they are given to magnifico that dream is forgotten but why why does giving your dream make you forget it does that mean that the person just has no Hobbies after that wouldn't you then just get another dream then if magnifical breaks the wish would you really feel that bad I don't know maybe they're all just a bunch of boring losers and look I'm not trying to question the logic behind the magic system or anything I just think that making this the first actually bad thing he does in the entire movie is not a valid reason to call him the most intimidating villain Disney has made I'm just so disappointed man I really thought we were going to get a good villain in a Disney movie for once because he has all of the elements that make it work he's got a pretty good design a musical number and Chris Pines is actually giving a pretty good performance playing this cartoonishly evil villain but none of that matters because this is not a character this is a prop a prop for the movie's themes that the writers can just manipulate to make him as evil and as stupid as they want at a moment's notice and I mean it about the stupid part because apparently popping the wish makes him suddenly hungry for power so just to catch up we're at about three layers of character assassination right now this is a good guy who suddenly becomes a bad guy who suddenly gets possessed by a magic book who is suddenly hypnotized by popping bubbles and it's not like I don't see what this movie is doing either magnifico is in a way a villain that represents the antithesis of what Disney claims to be he takes people's best ideas their hopes and dreams and then chooses to Grant only the safest wishes keeping people tied by the hope that their wish might someday be granted which is a great idea for the 100 Years of Disney celebration except that ironically that ends up being a perfect representation of modern Disney but even then the allegory doesn't really work because magnifico is not an entertainment company he is a king so anyways Asha throws a bookshelf at him and he forgets that he has superpowers and lets her run away with her mom and her 100-year-old Grandpa now Asha can work together with the others and form a revolution and overthrow magnifico that fiend look at all the Dark Shadows look at how evil he is we're going to crush his skull what is wrong with these people even the queen gets in on this song what are you doing why aren't you helping your husband he needs you now more than ever why are you going to these children and honestly I thought that the queen was faking I thought she was going to pretend to go along with their plan only to betray them in the very end wouldn't that have been kind of cool if the main antagonists of the movie were a combination of classic Disney villains and modern twist villains that would actually fit the movie's 100 Years of Disney theme it would also be more interesting than when we actually got because this random character snitching and then getting possessed is lame now there's two villains who are possessed by evil book so then magnifico makes a stick and then he says he's going to use it to capture star in order to get its power and uh I guess I need to remind you that he's infinitely powerful and while he's doing this you can see that he has a poisoned apple on his desk is he going to kill somebody so then the seven deadly Sims try to release all the wishes to the sky because I don't know but then magnifico doeses the switcheroo and manages to capture all the wishes including star and Asha is all the way out in the boonies so I was wondering what is she going to do to defeat this threat and it's at this point that I realized that Asha hasn't really done anything in this movie she made the wish then everything else just kind of happened she has no influence over the villain's plan and doesn't grow or change in a substantial way or learns a valuable lesson to make it Justified that she would win in the end so therefore magnifical wins right so Asha teleports over to the city and then magnifico blasts her with green magic does he want to kill her does he want to kill everybody but then Asha starts to sing and this singing inspires everyone to sing and the singing makes star come out of the staff and freeze everybody then magnifico gets sucked into his own staff I am not making this up they win by singing singing really can kill your grandma like there's no reason for any of this to happen the good guys literally wish for the villain to lose and it happens and this is why King magnifico is the worst Disney villain he's worse than all the twist villains the forgettable villains the boring villains because he's not intimidating he is not dangerous even the dinosaur from dinosaur was at least threatening he has no connection to the good guys and he gets the feel Ed by singing like it's an episode of Bonney the dinosaur he is a joke and you know what no he does not deserve this much punishment scar getting Eden alive made sense because he threw the hyenas under the bus and killed somebody frolo getting dragged to Hell works because he abused his powers as a judge and because he was a pervert hell even hans's getting sent to jail works because he tried to kill Anna and Elsa but what did magnifico really do give people temporary sadness does that really deserve getting put in The Phantom Zone I mean it's not like he granted dozens of people's wishes buil their houses and let them live for free so congratulations Asha you killed Mr Beast I mean seriously what did Asha improve by getting rid of this guy the only possible message that you can get is that you should pursue your own dreams instead of waiting for them to be granted which is a good idea but then to top everything off Asha is turned into the next Wish granter by star why did she deserve this what has she accomplished that makes her worthy of this power magnifico worked hard he went through a horrible experience and vowed to never let anybody go through such a tragedy he's been running the kingdom for decades and has brought nothing but Unity peace and happiness Asha just complained but she gets to be the next wish granter what a sick joke how is she going to be better she's going to have to be selective when graning wishes and then some people are not going to be happy with her and guess what you're going to have to start doing I decide I'm just so tired of movies where I'm rooting for the villain to win because that is the easiest way to alienate any possible audience you might have two out of 10 the best part of the movie is the credits because they showed the other Disney characters and I actually got to see oh God no get her off the screen not again that's all I got for this video goodbye [Music] n
