I would hypothesize that the date representation is less important than the graphical position representation. If that's a UIScrollView, the scrolling position is a "content offset" stored as a CGPoint (two-dimensional position), and the docs decline to commit to a type for each dimension.
Another thing to test: does the breakage change if you set a different text size in Accessibility? People are reporting that it breaks differently on different devices; different models have different scaling factors. The retina iPhones were 2x the original iPhones, and the 6+ I think was the first to go 3x. I would bet the pixels-per-year would be important.
