[Music] welcome back watch people now i'm fresh from watching a video from our good friend over at jess bluefish watch reviews that of course is guy if you haven't seen guy's channel before i'll leave a link in the video description below please pop along and watch his latest video in which he talks about rolex appearing not only in the top 100 list of most trusted brands anywhere on the entire planet earth not only did i appear in that top 100 but in fact they're sitting there proudly in virtual joint first place alongside lego just finishing a couple of points behind lego as the world's most trusted brand and guy asked the question can we really trust rolex and i'm going to give you my opinion today as to why i believe in my own humble opinion i better make that clear for the purpose of this video that you cannot trust rolex as a company you cannot trust them for many reasons not in 2021 i think they're a different animal to what they used to be some years ago and i think they've got worse and worse and worse and i'm going to tell you exactly why i feel you can't trust rolex as a company anymore and in fact not only why they shouldn't be joint number one in my humble opinion they shouldn't be anywhere near the top 100. now i'm going to give you some very good reasons why as i said now later on in this video i'm also going to go through a couple of your questions that have come into me over the last few days but before i do let me explain a little bit more as to why i feel that as a general member of the public um not as a former watch dealer because i can understand that perhaps rolex might not be super friendly to uh independent watch dealers quite why i don't know they only support the brand new business no pre-owned market no new market no new market no pre-owned market but that's another story but um or the first thing i want to say is the fact that rolex have appeared right up there at number one joint number one stroke number two position is simply through the ignorant ignorance of the public's perception um of rolex as a brand in general now if you go out into any local high street anywhere in the world and you stop the first 100 people that pass you and you say to them excuse me sir or madam could you name for me the best watch brand anywhere in the world 99.9 of them will say rolex and the reason they'll say rolex is because it's the only really it's the only luxurious watch brand luxury watch brand they even know about they've never heard of brege they've never heard of vacheron constantine they've never heard of patek philippe they've never heard of a lang and sauna so rolex quite understandably are always named by the uneducated public as far as watches are concerned as being the world's best watch brand and what they actually mean is it's the only one they've ever heard of now that's the reasoning that i believe that rolex have appeared in such a high position but let me go through uh one or two reasons why i think they can't be trusted guy interestingly talks about rolex service centers and guy actually says that he trusts rolex service centers well i can tell you now guys i absolutely do not trust rolex service centers i don't trust rolex service centers as far as i could throw them and i'll tell you why because over the years i've experienced not one not two not a few cases but hundreds of cases where information has come from rolex service centers has either been inaccurate in my opinion it's been poor in my opinion and in many cases it's been downright ugly in the respect that i have experienced a lot of customers who have taken vintage sports what is to rolex for a service and those watches have come back with a hefty bill and a new doll that's worth a fraction of the original one they've come back with bracelets have been replaced they've been charged for a new bracelet that isn't worth a fraction of the one that went in for a service in the first place and i'm utterly convinced that somewhere in geneva in london in rome wherever you want in new york in any rolex service center that you care to shake a stick out there is someone sitting there with an album full of extremely valuable hands dolls bezels etc that they have removed from customers watches replace them with a far inferior a far less valuable service part without actually telling them the downfall of what is going on in the first place do i trust rolex service centers absolutely not if you have a vintage sports watch um in particular if you send that watch in for a service at rolex well you better beware as to look and look very carefully at the report or the estimate that comes back to you and take a look at the work they want to do and the parts they want to replace before you say yes because i can absolutely guarantee you if you send in a highly valuable vintage submariner for a full rolex service and you just go fire away and you pull the trigger without knowing exactly what they're going to do that watch will come back worth a fraction of the price that it was worth when it went in so do i trust rolex service centers absolutely not not in 2021 rolex authorized dealers do i trust rolex authorized dealers well i'm not going to label the point on that one too much i don't want to board a pants off you i've been through this a hundred times before but how the hell can we trust rolex these days when they allow their authorized dealers to use their products as leverage for those authorized dealers to sell you items that you don't want in particular jewellery that's worth a fraction of the shop window price what is going on with rolex why are they allowing their authorized dealers to use their products as a leverage to get you to buy what is from other brands even it absolutely doesn't make any sense to me but that's not the point the point is are rolex one of the most trusted brands in the world are they my backside as far as i'm concerned um another one that we've been through before and i won't labor it again the lost and stolen redstone how can they possibly say that rolex are among the most trusted watch brands in the world when they won't even share their lost and stolen register to help people from buying stolen watches from being robbed in the street from being mugged at their homes how on earth can rolex be described as one of the world's most trusted brands i would actually deem them as one of the world's most unhelpful brands and one of the brands that offer their customers the most snobbery and the most entitled attitudes that you'll ever come across in the world of watches honestly um for me this is all uh through public ignorance this is obviously a poll that's been sent out to random individuals who don't know nothing about the watch world and they're just asked to name the most trusted watch brand in the world and quite naturally the vast majority of them will write rolex without even knowing that more than about five or six other watch brands even exist and lastly on the subject of why rolex shouldn't be um in the in the list of top 100 brands that you can trust anywhere in the world is the fact that when they do retrieve stolen watches they don't give them back to their rightful owner it looks to me like they keep them again don't want to labor an old point but they've got a gmt of mine they've had it for almost a year have they given it back to the person that took it in for a service not as far as i'm aware even though i wrote to him and said look just give it back to the guy i don't want you keeping it have they given it back to me absolutely not not heard a thing from him so rolex appeared to me at least from my own experience and proved me wrong rolex showed me evidence that i'm actually wrong you receive stolen wattages that come in for service and as far as i'm aware they're not going back to are you the original owner or to be the poor soul that presented it to you in the first place rolex i am trusting you less and less and less by the day am i knocking your what is absolutely not would i ever um mount a campaign i've seen people in the comment section saying paul you know we need to boycott rolex look i'm not going to suggest to anyone that watches my channel that we boycott the brand and the reason that i wouldn't suggest that is because quite frankly it wouldn't be good advice they remain the hottest investment watch or the investment brand pretty much anywhere in the world with the exception of one or two ridiculous richard mills and patek's etcetera that 99 of people can't get involved in so boycotting rolex is not an option it would be a stupid move it will be a silly campaign it is definitely not a campaign that i don't want to gain so i wear rolex myself because i like the watches i love the watches i dislike the brand i dislike the people behind the brand i think that's what i'm trying to say in 2021 let's get on to those questions i promised to answer and they came in after my recent video where a viewer to my channel would send his watch into rolex for a service and it turns out to be stolen he's now lost his watch and this question came in from krx it's paul i've only ever purchased news so if you purchase a watch say that has no box or papers would the pre-owned dealer issue a receipt with the relevant serial and model number etc just curious absolutely kr any decent any uh trusted independent watch dealer worthy salt will always issue you with a receipt for the amount you pay for the watch and that receipt and guarantee should cover two or three things it should cover its uh age condition it should cover its serial number its model reference number etc a brief description of the watch so there's no doubt about the watch that he has sold you i mean receipts and valuations and uh paperwork will vary from d letter dealer but the bottom line is most important the most basic information like model reference number serial number etc a brief description of the watch will appear on every single decent watch dealer's paperwork um then there is of course the matter of the warranty period which again will vary and of course there's also the guarantee of authenticity which really has no uh back end to it that isn't an endless guarantee any watch that i've sold in the past um always went with a lifetime guarantee of authenticity and it doesn't matter if the watch was warranted for three months six months six years or 26 years that watch is always carrying my lifetime guarantee of authenticity kevin halliday says a question paul i'm on the other side of that conundrum i had my rolex stolen 20 years ago by now that watch must have been returned to rolex for a service and may have changed hands many times the current owner may be completely unaware that they are wearing my watch how does someone like me try and find out if my watch has resurfaced after many years the watch was very special to me as it was a 30th birthday gift from someone very special to me who has now sadly passed away and i would want that watch back for that reason alone what's your advice paul um well kevin first of all um 20 years is a fairly long time as far as time goes but in the lifetime of watch it's actually not that long and there's a good possibility that that watch won't have gone back to rolex during that time and may never go back to rolex in fact because a lot of people with high-end watches won't necessarily send them back to the manufacturer if that watch needs a service look there is a chance and one of the things that you could do is that you could call rolex and ask them if that watch has ever been sent in for a service of course you'd need to know the watches details model reference number etc is that watch even on the lost and stolen register in the first place um if it's not you should report it as lost and stolen because that way it could potentially be flagged up and you should also register that watch with the watch register.com i'll leave a link to their website and you should also make those details known publicly put them up on google so that if anyone checks that what is details it will come up on a google search um i've spoken about this before i'm afraid kevin the chances of your watch showing up after 20 years are pretty slim but you never know um these watches do carry a lifetime serial number don't they so look they're just as in some respects they're just as likely to show up today as they were 10 or 15 years ago in fact possibly more likely to show up now in some respects the problem is is that 10 years ago if that watch did flag up um or it was sold within the trade us dealers would have been checking it against the official lost and stolen register and as i've said a thousand times before that sadly is now no longer available to anyone other than rolex for reasons only known to them look guys i'll be interested to know what you think do you think that rolex are deserving of being listed in the world's top 100 most trusted brands right across the globe um i think the general public's perception of a lot of big businesses is a long way from the truth and there are a lot of issues as far as rolex are concerned uh for me at least having been at the sharp end of a lot of experiences and speaking to my viewers on a daily basis i hear your stories i see your stories i see your issues and your emails and for me they're only there because of the non-watched buying public's ignorance as to what's really going on hope you all enjoyed that let me know what you think thanks for watching and we'll speak again soon [Music] you
