Hi and welcome to r/solarpunk! Due to numerous suggestions from our community, we're using this automod message to bring up a topic that comes up a lot: GREENWASHING. It is used to describe the practice of companies launching adverts, campaigns, products, etc under the pretense that they are environmentally beneficial/friendly, often in contradiction to their environmental and sustainability record in general. On our subreddit, it usually presents itself as eco-aesthetic buildings because they are quite simply the best passive PR for companies.
ethicalconsumer.org and greenandthistle.com give examples of greenwashing, while scientificamerican.com explains how alternative technologies like hydrogen cars can also be insidious examples of greenwashing.
If you've realized your submission was an example of greenwashing--don't fret! We are all here to learn, and while there will inevitably be comments pointing out how and why your submission is greenwashing, we hope the discussion stays productive. Solarpunk ideals include identifying and rejecting capitalism's greenwashing of consumer goods.

My city has been doing a lot of roadwork these past few years. One thing they've made sure to add to the roads is a bike path. Not a bike lane but a dedicated path. It's essentially a double sidewalk that is for peds and bikes alike. Because of this our bike trails have gone from the outskirts of the city to city wide. The downtown area has been repainted to allow a bike lane. Another thing they did was decrease the amount of lanes for cars and add more bus stops. Since they have made these changes there have been more people riding, walking, and using public transport. Simple changes like this can change how cities operate.
Not just bikes is awesome. I recommend watching the channel, trying the ideas out in a city building game like city skylines, and be inspired how nice a solar punk city can be. Safe cities for everyone, Pedestrians and bikes prioritized.
These are exactly the style of bikes I've wanted for years. But yeah, crazy fucking hard to find such kinds in the United States.
I had a single speed step through bike as a teen and it was great because it was such low maintenance.
In college I rode mountain bikes and needed gears for the hills.
I am almost 60 now and this year I got an e-bike so I can still ride with my bad knees and it can be charged up from my small off grid solar power system.
That bike is great and I can ride 30 miles with little effort and tow a trailer with my dog for adventure rides. Today we went for a ride and enjoyed the fall colors.
I think e-bkes and other bikes will stay popular and more towns and cities need dedicated bike lanes and paths and local shopping designed for people that ride and walk.
