Why you should NEVER Buy an Orange County Chopper

a few weeks after we got this bike occ orange county choppers had a big liquidation auction and sold off everything from their shop i learned this about a week after it happened i think it's finally safe to say the chopper scene is dead in the peak of the chopper scene in the early 2000s everyone was getting in on making custom choppers the nada book instead of having like 47 names of motorcycle manufacturers they had to increase it to over 300 names of all these different little small independent custom chopper companies with names like all-american choppers apollo choppers american motor corporation anarchy motorcycles backwood choppers big bear choppers and of course my favorite of all death row motorcycles the choppers with a motorcycle comparison of the hot rod they came in all different styles and flavors but all of them were completely custom unique to that owner which could have as little custom as a custom paint job or a lot of custom stuff like this motorcycle here that's trying to eat little children and small animals the idea of a one-of-one motorcycle was appealing to a lot of people and they also thought this could be a good investment now i guess it's possible that the popularity of choppers might come back and the values are going to start going up again yamaha did in fact make their own chopper-ish type of motorcycle it came a little bit too late it came out in 2006 and that was the yamaha raider the big difference between the yamaha raider and a normal chopper was was all the styling was not as aggressive and the yamaha raider was also a really fun bike to ride and was comfortable and you could take it on trips and it was actually a functioning motorcycle and that's part of the reason why i don't think the chopper is ever going to come back because the functionality just wasn't there yeah of course it's a beautiful good looking bike but just uncomfortable you couldn't really ride them that long and it it wasn't a fun bike to ride and anyone that says it was that'll probably lie into you now this is my orange county chopper bike named corporal punishment it was actually from the tv show uh season three episode five i think and it is the worst motorcycle i have ever ridden in my entire life and when it was brand new it was valued at eighty thousand dollars which is gonna blow your mind away and when i bought it fifteen years later i paid eight thousand dollars for it so that's a pretty good way to lose seventy thousand dollars in fifteen years and when i got my super super custom bike it had a couple surprises one surprise that really kind of blew my mind away for starters the bike has no gauges it's got no odometer no tripometer no neutral safety switch no speedometer it doesn't tell you anything about the bike which means this bike will forever be branded as true mileage unknown or tmu the worst of all brandings but i guess no one cares because it's a chopper and people know no one's putting that many miles on it you can only do so many miles before your back just gives out the other fun surprise about this bike is a complete lack of a suspension now you might look in there and be like there's got to be a shock or spring hidden in there you know like a soft tail no this is what they call a rigid and there's no shock there's no spring and you would also think oh they must have put some type of spring inside the seat there's no there's no spring in here either it's just it's just this and this is not even pad this is just like leather so every time you hit a bump it is really painful now there are some motorcycles out there that might have no suspension but really cushy soft tires not this that's the next thing i want to talk about this thing has a giant humongous 240 back tire which would make sense if it wasn't for the biggest surprise of all which is this now everyone kind of understands that you're going to give up a lot you're going to give up comfort and all and reliability and all these things but what you get back in return is fast and loud this is loud it's just not fast and it's not fast because instead of putting a big giant motor in here like they should have because it's a chopper they put a stock 80-inch harley-davidson evo motor in this thing we actually had it on the dyno and it pushed out 62 horsepower which you could buy a dirt bike with six with more than 62 horsepower but here's the thing was the chopper just a ridiculous fad of a really cool but uncomfortable unrideable motorcycle or was it the one last thing that was protecting us from this you know politically correct everyone gets a trophy don't let your kids get hurt or get dirty you know what i mean type of type of society life is too short for you to be spending all your time making sure that you're safe and comfortable maybe the chopper was protecting us from that let's go take it for a test drive and see what it's like all right guys let's start this to start the spike right with the words of wisdom romans 12 10 love each other with genuine affection and take delight in honoring each other hey man let's put all my awesome very rare only 99 pairs of these left that i mean like ever are made in existence as far as i know 508 sedonas yeah i love how when you put the kickstand down you have to reach down here because you can't grab your foot let's turn the fuel on i feel on this is uh put the choke on crack that all right let's take this choke off there we go so it's kind of a big problem but the seat is way too slippery and you just want to slide off it so if it had tons of power which it needs to have tons of power you just want to fall off and slide off the back of the seat it's kind of obnoxious but everyone likes to look at you oh shoot all right maybe it's too early to take it off a joke let's try that you know a lot of these common things and these common creature comforts that we take for granted with regular motorcycles that have been on motorcycles for the past 50 or 60 years such as neutral lights you don't have a bike like this me personally i like to have a neutral light i like to know when i'm in neutral it sure makes a lot of noise with that very almost non-existent exhaust i just wish it would back it up a little bit more you know now a lot of times the way that if you have more rake the chopper will end up feeling like a like a pipe with big apes this is not horrible if you look it's only a few inches maybe it's almost my arms are almost level if maybe an inch or two above so that's not that bad oh hitting bumps is brutal it's oh man and the parade front brakes are so tough like i'm i'm using all i got with my front fingers just like barely stop the thing and then when you go to grab some uh some rear brake it just locks up i mean i don't know how long the bike was sitting before i got it the way it sits it's not the easiest bike to ride and i'm not sure if there's too much i can do to make it any better let's jump on the highway maybe that'll make it feel better i would do a zero to 60 but i don't know how fast i'm ever going now it does have a nice long wheelbase like possibly the longest wheelbase motorcycle of anything i've ever written maybe with one exception but so so so it does feel very stable i will give a credit for that it does feel very stable cruising on the highway now to give you some perspective if i was riding my road king or my ultra classic or something like that i'd be right here this is comfortable this i'm leaning very far forward yup not the most fun bike to ride anything that looks wet right now is most likely ice so i'm taking it i'm taking it pretty easy all right guys that wraps up this test drive of this orange county chopper check out the bikes and
