Who are the BEST Characters in Fire Emblem Three Hopes?

today is the day where i finally create my fire emblem three hopes tier list i have over 300 hours clocked into this game and i've done everything there is to do i have built every character mastered every class and used every weapon and with that knowledge now i could finally tell you where each character truly belongs i will be ranking each character based on where i think each character should go i'm looking at the overall kit and potential of each character do they have a crest what relics could they naturally use what are their unique abilities or what abilities do they naturally have access to these are all things i'm going to consider when placing characters on this tier list just keep in mind this is my opinion after all however this is going to be based on my knowledge of fire emblem 3 hopes and as a side note the characters within the ranks are not necessarily in order the only time i start giving you the characters in order are for s rank all the way at the end starting with f these are the lowest potential units in the game all characters are usable even in maddening so keep that in mind as we go it's not like the f-tier characters are unusable they're just severely lacking if you're comparing them to other characters starting with d'do his demolisher ability is interesting and it has some decent damage but de doo lacks almost all of the damage raising abilities seriously he has underdog and that's it the only way to raise the damage on this character was to focus on speeding up your warrior specials but even that can only do so much ash's unique abilities left a lot to be desired and just like to do ash was also lacking a lot of the damage boosting abilities the only way to get good damage on him was to rely heavily on the wind torn status effect and even then his damage could not compare to the other characters on the list happy was originally a lot higher on my list until i really took a close look to what she has access to netherside is alright i guess the unique isn't anything special and as a monster fighter her monstrous appeal unique ability has a time in place however she pretty much has nothing for abilities no greater damage abilities no essence no nothing she has a few good support abilities and a few stun gauge abilities and that's it happy or not she stays in f now e tier the characters in this tier are only a little better than f tier they suffer from a lot of the same things like lack of abilities and weak uniques but they deserve to be just a little higher for one reason or another leone has a pretty interesting unique but sadly this unique is a double-edged sword sure you get huge speed boosts but it easily gets out of control making it hard to make use of fully just like the other characters in f-tier leone is also lacking in damage boosting abilities but what raises her to e-tier is the fact that she has some decent support like darting blow soul and flyswatter not to mention leone gets essence of fire yuri has a really bad unique i'm sure you've seen the trend here but unlike the other characters yuri does have a bit of damage support this character is in a very similar boat to ash and has to use wintorn to excel but with impossible feed essence of wind and absorbs speed he gets put into e-tier and petra isn't a very similar boat to yuri she has the essence of wind and not a lot else if it wasn't for her having two decent uniques she would be an f-tier windstorm gives her a greater evasion distance and dodging inflicts wind damage while hunting boone refills the awakening gauge with each critical hit without these uniques petra wouldn't have a whole lot going for her rank d these are characters that had some potential but in one way or another left more to be desired of the overall kit starting with bernadetta we start to see a little more overall potential her personal space ability not only functions as an aoe freeze but it also boosts our critical hit chance while within this is one of the better uniques in the game bernadetta also has access to a few greater damage abilities alongside offensive tactics giving her a little more damage potential than the characters in e however we do have to rely heavily on our awakening gauge and warrior gauge to keep up damage wise this is usually a sign that the character is very limited with their abilities ignots is super fun to play but this tier list is based on character potential and in this regard ignotz is lacking his dreamer's paint brush ability is super fun to use but lacks a lot of damage potential ignorance is also severely lacking in the ability field we have impossible feet which is amazing to have and fiendish blow powers up our unique a bit but besides that it's mostly support abilities with a little more damage ignots could have been amazing big missed opportunity here gerald suffers from too many directions he has some of the core abilities to run him as a great knight or a mage but lacks enough of ether to truly excel his bladebreaker ability is good and this is exactly what makes him a great knight however abilities like essence of lightning that would normally be great can't really be used alongside his best class if you chose to build him as a mage you can't take advantage of abilities like absorb strength without running herati which locks him in dark bishop i feel like the fact that his potential is split in two is the biggest deciding factor to why he belongs in rank d rank d plus monica deserves a rank above d but does not deserve a c so i'm giving her a d plus her unique is pretty good especially when you run her as a dancer she has wild abandon offensive tactics luna and dual onslaught which gives her just a little more potential than those in rank d now rank c minus i promise you that i did not intend on having all these middle ranks but i think it's important to give you an idea where each character truly stands shamir lacks the abilities much like most of the other characters thus far however she does have some support what really gives her a c minus is the fact that she's very similar to monica but with ice ice is one of if not the strongest element a character can use so the fact that shamir is unique is a timed ability just like monica's but it freezes enemies plus the fact that she has essence of ice allows her to climb up just a little above d-plus rank c this rank is what i like to consider the middle ground these characters either had a good amount of potential but were let down by their kits or they just had a bunch of average stuff about them this rank is the definition of mediocrity linhart is our first rank c character he has more potential than the characters that came before him but that potential is divided he has wild abandon offensive tactics an essence of wind but rather than having flair he is luna not just that but his unique is severely lacking so i think this character is the perfect start for rank c dorothea is another character that belongs in rank c i do apologize to anyone who's hoping she would be higher but her unique is the only thing that carried her to rank c as it is prismatic resonance is a really strong unique when compared to some of the other options and it can do some serious damage to enemies however she lacks any damage boosting abilities whatsoever and although she has some support abilities like soul and darting blow at this stage in the tier list you need to have at least some strong abilities if you want to go above c c plus raphael in my opinion belongs a little higher than c but not quite a b he has strong abilities like impossible feat and absorbs strength which is great he also has a few abilities like essence of fire and dual onslaught that shows some potential as a fire casting dark bishop however his unique pure brawn drags the focus to something that relies on normal combos opposed to spells pure brawn is a pretty strong unique and would be a shame if we didn't use it so this decision is what keeps him away from b another c character that i'll probably get some hate for is manuela it's sad because she has the thunder elemental spells which are my personal favorites but her lack of abilities really holds her back she has a very few damage-oriented abilities but thunderous refrain does make up for it a little bit her unique is what puts her into c-plus instead of c rodrigue also deserves the rank of c plus he doesn't have a split kit it's just that the kit he has gives him the potential of a c-plus unit he has wild abandon underdog defensive tactics and even big game hunter plus he has essence of light this kit gives him the choice between dancer and holy knight both work quite well his martial prowess unique isn't half bad either but that's just it he is simply a not half bad character sedith is also a character that belongs in c plus he does have some strong abilities like wild abandon underdog big game hunter and absorb dexterity but he's held back by his uniques not just that but seth is set up to do well as a wyvern lord but he really needs the spell excalibur to do good damage dividing his kid a little bit if there was a wyvern class that had access to spells setith would be way higher on this list another big missed opportunity now we've reached rank b these are the above average characters they didn't shine as brightly as some of the other characters on the list but they deserve to be recognized as better than the normal hilda sits pretty at rank b her lightning bound ability is quite good especially when comboed with great knight she has access to abilities like wild abandon undaunted luna soul big game hunter and even offensive tactics to make matters even better she has a lightning essence too in fact this character could have moved much farther on the list if it wasn't for the fact that her abilities are split in two part of her kit wants mage and the other part wants melee but there are too many abilities to make her a mixed attacker no matter what you do with her she loses out somewhere so for that reason despite having amazing potential she will be our first rank b character mercedes is pretty lacking as a combat unit but that's not who she is supposed to be as far as how capable she is as a normal attacking unit she would likely fall into the sea category however her ability to heal and do well as a holy knight because of it moves her up in the ranks a little bit not just that but mercedes is one of the only characters in the entire game with light assist which allows you to use mercedes as an adjutant to give any unit the ability to heal themselves this had to be taken into account to be fairly units that did an amazing job at something other than combat casper has a relatively strong unique all considering his abilities are pretty good too he has wild abandon and possible feat absorbs strength offensive tactics luna and even range master not just that but kasper also has essence of fire which could turn him into a serious mage given the herati book i feel like casper here is having a little bit of a midlife crisis part of him wants mage the other war master but regardless of what you choose the character is brimming with potential this earns him his spot in b rank ingrid has a pretty well balanced kit with wild abandon offensive tactics essence of ice and flare you'll see that this character is set up to be a mixed attacker with how icy plunge works alongside her heaven sent knocking enemies flying and attacking them in the air will allow ingrid to do her best the kit may not be as impressive overall than the other characters in rank b but the specialty with ice more than makes up for the lack of potential elsewhere speaking of ice marianne is another character that skates on into rank b due to our specialty with ice snow slip is a pretty strong ice unique that causes ice damage to enemies as your hit counter increases as far as abilities go of course she has the needed ice essence and fiendish blow but also wild abandon and life force to give her attack some extra oomph running a blood gain could really turn marianne into a beast with beast fame being able to heal her so well but since she has to rely on blood gain to reach these heights she will stay in b-rank without blood gain life force would not really be used and as a result her damage would drop off by a lot and now rank a i want to first say there are a lot of amazing characters brimming with potential in this game raygay is where most of these characters will land these are amazing units that could be completely broken but cannot be considered the best this category is for second place units for lack of a better description starting with catherine her two-fold unique is really strong the only thing holding it back is the fact that you can't use it more frequently she also comes with a pretty strong kit for a sword user she has wild abandon defensive tactics big game hunter soul flair essence of fire and even darting blow this gives her the well-deserved a-rank all three lords belong in a-rank as well and i'll cover all three at once since they're all here for similar reasons dimitri edelgard and claude all have strong unique classes they all come with strong imbuement uniques as well that naturally have the elemental essence abilities attached to them all three come with special abilities and combat arts that only they have access to and if that wasn't already enough they also come with a strong kit of abilities like events of tactics impossible feed and much more these abilities vary lord to lord but they all have a lot to work with and that belongs to this rank too but just like mercedes we have to consider more than just her combat prowess to understand her reason for being here as far as just her combat ability she belongs in b she has some support some damage strong unique and a fairly balanced kit however she also has the title of best adjutant in the entire game with the highest number of abilities for an adjutant as well as rally deluxe which is a completely broken stat boosting ability for whoever the primary unit is for these reasons she definitely belongs in a rank gatekeeper also lands in a rank for a few reasons first the bad his camaraderie unique ability is super interesting and fun to use but not practical or strong the fact that he can nullify status effects though is quite useful if you take a look at his abilities you'll also notice he lacks a lot of damage capacity this really holds the character back although he does lack in damage capability he does make up for it by gaining every innate ability in the game well besides pegasus knight since he can't use that class innate abilities are very strong and that's why normally you can only have one per character except for gatekeeper which is the sole reason he belongs right here in rank a felix is another unit that has an exceptional unique you could boost your movement speed and attack speed whenever you want that's amazing not just that but felix comes with a really strong kit he's got wild abandon impossible feet luna absorbs speed essence of lightning there's not a whole lot not to like what holds him back from s rank is the fact that although he's really strong he doesn't quite live up to the other characters at the top of the list but just remember all these characters in a rank are completely broken in their own right and felix is no exception oh boy time to get some hate i have a very love-hate relationship with balthus first he makes a really powerful mage of course you kind of have to force him down the route but it's more than worth it however he's locked in a dark bishop because without herati his damage just isn't good enough this means we're not taking advantage of other parts of his kit that want him to be a war master like his relic that boosts his damage as his health goes down he has a few abilities for this but almost no support and a crest that heals him when he uses combat arts whoever made balfous this way had no clue what they wanted to do with them speaking of golden fist a super strong unique for farming gold that should make baltha's s rank right wrong without de-spoil as an ability balthus becomes one of the worst characters to farm gold with since if you use his ability on anyone else that does have despoil you double the amount of gold you can earn per match he's the most confusing character that has no clear direction whatsoever but i can't argue with the potential that is there so he's a rank constance is another beast she's actually one of the strongest characters i've built granted i did have to swap out her unique building her with azure lightning allowed me to gain essence of lightning and essence of light at the same time this ended up creating a super broken multi-elemental mage that could either go the root of moral savon or that of holy knight not only that but she has wild abandon life force and offensive tactics giving her a boost to her base damage if she had this potential all on her own she would be an s-rank but since i had to swap her unique she stays in a now on to bileth surely bileth deserves an s rank right no for a character that has two genders worth of abilities bileth is really lacking in areas that they shouldn't be sure the unique is awesome it literally stops time but essentially so does ice our damage gets a big boost when we're awakened which is awesome but if we have to rely on our awaken state to reach the damage of other s ranks then you shouldn't be one not just that but although our ability potential isn't horrible it's not good enough to justify an s reya is interesting in the sense that her unique is one of the hardest hitting uniques in the entire game plus she gets her own class but let's be honest it's effectively a mortal savon she has a bunch of support and damage abilities which turn her into one of the most balanced units in the game however balance isn't always best and in this case it turns reya into a unit that's greyed out a lot but not a master of anything this is why she's an a-rank arval is lacking a bid in the ability department but makes up for it with the unique called duality this allows you to swap from light and dark imbuements in battle to either heal or severely damage your opponents on top of this arvel does gain a ton of support abilities like darting blow pact aggression soul etc so although just barely arval gets an a-rank as well and our last a-rank character is holst i know there are a lot of characters in a rank in this game but there's a lot of good characters what can i say holst has some really strong combat abilities alongside a really good unique galvanic surge is something you could use fairly frequently and it temporarily increases your speed and imbues attacks with lightning this character is comparable to felix although the unique is a little weaker holst does make up for it with essence of lightning and thunderbrand this allows you to run both footroyant strike and electric grounder one combat art that does physical while the other magical damage turning holst into a mixed attacker sure you need thunderbrand to pull this off and that's why he's an a instead of an a plus speaking of a plus uriza needed to be given a rank above a but below s yaritza has amazing abilities i feel like he's one of the very few characters that have an overall kit this strong the problem comes from how you want to play him otherwise he would be an s rank murderous intent is bonkers broken but lacks effectiveness when an enemy drops below 80 percent health so i found that the most effective way to play him is to take advantage of that unique and only use spells that hit one time this while stacking all of his other amazing damage abilities cause an easy one-shot for just about any commander that however comes at the cost of range when we're talking s rank i could not put a character with such little range in s-rank just like uriza sophus is stacked with strong uniques and abilities to avoid repeating the abilities over and over and over again just know that sothus has some of the best abilities in the game which makes her a force of nature in battle both her uniques are strong as well so you're probably wondering why not s well because the characters in s are better than sophis there is nothing wrong with sothis but she can't compete with the next few characters and finally we have our s rank characters who i will cover in order from worst to best keep in mind all of these characters are s rank and deserve the spot number seven is ferdinand ferdinand has one of the most broken uniques in the entire game this gives him an s rank and is well deserved but compared to some of the other units in s the ability potential is just a little lower with that being said though ferdinand still has a crazy amount of strong abilities at his disposal number six is sheds although shez is the main character and is broken in their own right they are weaker than some of the other characters in s rank i find that the lack of greater damage abilities is what really hurts them the most especially considering that chez gets to pull abilities from two genders worth of classes just like bileth does it's true that maishez feels stronger than some of the other s rank units in this game but that's only because i maxed out every single stat on them i feel like without all of those stat boosting items chez would naturally fall in this slot number five is still vain sylvain has the strongest unique in the game like literally the best one but ironically his ability is better used on other characters i'm not saying sylvain is an amazing all on his own but it's his unique that really excels the character of course even without his ability he's a really strong unit and the fact that he doesn't have to use an accessory to gain gordian's stroke is a big consideration for the s rank order lauren's is number four lawrence has a great kid of abilities to use and also comes with a really amazing unique that makes it almost impossible for him to take damage this makes laurens the most defensive unit in the entire game but just because his focus is on defense this does not mean he lacks damage in fact his damage fits the rank quite nicely at number 4. number three is lucifia she is the queen of damage and has been for a large part of my build series she was number one as a grammary and kept her spot even longer as a mortal savant she has amazing abilities and out of this world damage however where she loses some of her spark is her character unique it's just average at best if it wasn't for this one thing lecithia would likely be the top character on this list number two is flame just like lacithia flames unique ability is pretty bad so much so that when i built her i had to swap it out kinda silly that second place still has some flaws to point out however when it comes to abilities that she has access to she's number one by a long shot flame has the most stacked to the nines kit in the entire game giving her insane damage as a holy knight with the healing potential to live forever truthfully she almost got the number one spot it was a very close race ultimately the deciding factor came down to the fact that her unique had to be swapped out and although i know a lot of people don't like flame as a character her potential is truly a marvel now for number one we have hubert so let me explain why hubert is so strong first let's talk about his unique dark conjuration this unique applies dark spikes when we attack enemies that get bigger as we attack more and more we can activate our ability at any time to do crazy dark damage all the while every enemy we fight is plagued with a dark status effect this all on its own is broken but hubert also has the ability to use this super strong unique any time he wants and it's almost spammable this allows hubert to juggle enemies forever as long as you're running a weapon that reduces spell cooldowns like zatonger's mystery hubert is one of three characters that have access to essence of darkness shaz and uritza being the other two hubert has access to really amazing abilities like wild abandon absorb magic range master big game hunter the before mentioned essence of darkness offensive tactics i mean the list goes on this allows hubert to be the strongest unit in the entire game with the ability to endlessly juggle enemies but since he specializes in the dark element everything he does is that much more broken because the dark status effect is so strong i really hope you enjoyed my series for fire emblem 3 hopes i really enjoyed making these builds for everybody i also really appreciate the support just remember this isn't the end this is only the beginning i
