hey everyone how's it going so a few videos ago I decided to see which legendary beast was the best in Pokemon Gold and Silver and today we're going to be looking at which legendary bird is best and also whether the birds are better than the beasts so let's start off with the statistics all the legendary Pokémon have 580 base stats Articuno like suun is a bit more of a defensive Pokemon but it's other stats definitely wouldn't be considered bad they're definitely not great for a legendary Pokemon though from a statistical perspective Zapdos definitely has more you want to see a ton of special attack and very good speed its base attack is also very decent which is very important for a reason we'll discuss very shortly mol's stats look very similar to Zapdos however its attack and speed are swapped normally this is the point where I'd show move sets but honestly there's not really that much to say that won't already be discussed in the Run itself so I'd like to get right to it but first did you know that sometimes I record these runs for 5 hours or more in a session that's a really long time but nothing makes it a little bit easier than a nice cold glass of water but water doesn't stay cold for 5 hours please give me a solution iron flask what's this the iron flask it can keep my drink cold for 20 hours or hot for five it's got a rubber bottom so it doesn't leave those ugly condensation rings and you guys know how I misclick a lot I'm a real Kutz it's leak proof it even has multiple lids and reusable straws so I don't even need to use my hands to drink it while gaming it comes in a variety of styles and colors so if you want your own Iron flask for your long gaming sessions check out the links in my description and the pin comment and use the code jrose it15 for 15% off your iron flask all righty so to start our comparison off we're in Violet City but let's just remind you of a couple of the rules we have in place we have your standard rules no items in Battle Set mode only use one Pokémon aside for HMS you know pretty much the stuff every video does at this point but a couple unique rules to Gold and Silver and don't forget we are using gold and silver so no move tutors here because it's so hard to navigate silver cave without flash we're going to make it mandatory to get it so we have to go through Sprout Tower and we're going to disallow hidden power because it would just make the runs way too lucky since there's no way to directly control what type or power our hidden power is and it can make a massive massive difference for example if Moltres or Zapdos got hidden power ice base 70 power that could be super helpful against Lance which is typically one of the hardest trainers in the game so for that reason we're just going to ban it but that's enough intro stuff we have a lot of gems to cover let's start off with faler with Articuno Articuno starts with powder snow which is a base 40 power ice move and it just obliterates Pidgey Pidgeotto actually does survive a single powder snow and we're going to use Gust in order to get rid of it not the best starting moves but good versus Falconer so pretty easy stuff here zaptos also has a very easy time with Falconer it starts with PEC and thundershock and it's of course thundershock which we're going to use and it does one shot both Pidgey and Pidgeotto saving a little bit of time but I don't think that's really going to matter in the long run Moltres doesn't have any super effective attacks but it does have wing attack nearly one shots Pidgey we knock it out with Ember and then Pidgeotto we use Ember gets a critical hit and so it's going to be a twoot which is the same as Articuno albe at the crit helped again not really expecting fauler to be overly difficult with any of these birds and we're going to move on to another trainer that's going to be fairly easy because each one of these does have a flying type attack and it's going to be strong against Bugsy I don't anticipate Bugsy being very challenging we'll stick with Moltres here Metapod leads we're going to go for Ember it does one shot which is important Scyther goes for Fury cutter which is double resisted and a wing attack plus Ember knocks it out and we get to level 17 and then Ember knocks out Kakuna unsurprisingly this was fairly simple as for Zapdos we don't have wing attack and we don't have Ember we use PEC it doesn't quite one shot but two hits is fine Kakuna this time comes out next and once again PEC plus thundershock and now for Scyther because it is flying we can use two Thunders shocks and easily dispatch Scyther Fury cutter did nothing in case you're wondering they're all at a virtual tie at this point Articuno will also have a fairly easy time we're going to use powder snow because gust would be a twoot anyway goes for String Shot which is pretty annoying but powder snow oh it doesn't two shot this is a good example how articuno's weaker special attack is hurting it here but gust actually did onot Kakuna that was my mistake I didn't think it would I guess slightly more powerful than peek but the low attack thatat I thought would matter either way a win is a win is a win and we're going to move on to Whitney Whitney's mil tank has roll out which is super effective against all the birds but double super effective against both Moltres and Articuno so we're going to start with zaptos which doesn't have an easy time versus miltank but has the easyest time one thing you'll note is the discrepancy in levels which I battle Whitney so we're at the 110h hour mark in-game time for Zapdos at level 18 thundershock is going to be a three shot against Clefairy which isn't very good we knock it out here and then miltank comes out and I try to go for mud slap I have a Barry and we get the roll out Miss on turn two then the Thunder Wave and then I use PEC but that was a mistake thundershock did a lot more and then I get a very clutch parah Hax so at level 19 Zapdos was able to defeat Whitney little bit of luck there but I don't think it was crazy or anything Articuno attempts Whitney at the same level roughly the same in-game time a minute off but it doesn't go quite as well we start off by freezing Clefairy which is pretty solid but Clefairy was never going to be the big deal it was always going to be miltank and you can see me going for muds slap but this time I don't get the Miss and it's only a twoot and that facial expression is me saying no this is not going to happen I'm going to battle some more trainers including ones in Whitney's gym and we're going to have to come back I try to battle again this time at level 19 so I'm about two levels higher about at level 20 Clefairy is now a three shot versus a four shot but the bigger thing is whether we can tank two roll outs we get the Miss but the problem is unlike with Zapdos we don't have a way to paralyze mil tank and it uses milk drink which is really frustrating just giving it all its Health back and allowing it to use roll out again and unfortunately at my weakened Health two roll outs knock out Articuno so the milk drink really helped it out there I wanted to try a handful more times just to see if we could win at this level we get a double slap miss a mimic and then double slap so I'm at 62 HP at level 20 now 66 actually once again go for muds slap go for a second muds slap and go for a third muds slap and you know what I decide to go for four muds slaps roll out still hits the first time however even though it's milk drinking because I believe I'm at lower Health it's going to prefer going for roll out a little bit more and finally after hitting with like a th000 powder snows I get the freeze and I think that's going to be the battle regrettably it thaws out and starts milk drinking again but eventually it starts to run out of milk drink and although it takes a really long time Articuno with four mud slaps was able to knock out the mil tank and for the record people often confuse me Banning moves like double team which increase evasion with moves like muds slap that lower accuracy while seemingly they basically do the same thing especially in a Solo run they couldn't be more different lowering accuracy affects one of the opponent's many Pokemon while you can set up double team against a weak Pokemon like lefair and practically do that in every single battle making battles very RNG dependent standardized and not all that interesting so that is why I allow accuracy dropping moves like muds slap versus evasion raising moves mov and speaking of muds slap Moltres is going to need to use it as well for Moltres I decide to go all the way up to level 21 which proved helpful wing attack Two Shots Clefairy then miltank comes out I go for muds slap roll up misses and I decide to go for wing attack miltin has better special defense than regular defense so having wing attack is actually really helpful I then go for fire spin thinking that might be helpful then I go for Ember to see how much damage it will do and I get a really lucky burn so I end up winning this was actually my second attempt really this was just a scouting battle I lost my first attempt really quickly so somewhat surprisingly Moltres has the easiest time versus Whitney but I did level up Moltres the most so it makes some degree of sense plus like we talked about wing attack in the beginning it does help out Moltres quite a bit and we'll actually continue to do so as we Face the fourth gym leader Morty Morty's Pokémon's defense are worse than their special defense it one- shots Gastly which I wasn't so surprised at but it also on- shots Hunter which I was very surprised at we outspeed and twoot Gengar which is huge I hadn't yet ventured Westward to get the mintberry so that mean look was pretty clutch so first try Victory versus Morty after getting that crit versus Hunter which I think mattered nonetheless this is another great example of how wing attack is helping Moltres recall in our gen one one tier list Articuno and Zapdos were both solidly middle a tier Pokémon while molis was all the way at the bottom one of the worst fully evolved Pokemon in the entire game right now it's kind of one of the best but we're still early on will Moltres be able to redeem itself in generation 2 well let's see what the other two legendary birds have to say about that Articuno definitely struggles a little bit more with Morty Gus just isn't as good as wing attack and we get paralyzed because we don't oneshot we're also slightly lower leveled just because of the way things shook out it's a twoot versus Haunter and we do get agility which may help us unfortunately at this point even though Gengar can't put us to sleep Shadow Ball is enough to knock us out but maybe that first turn lick paralysis made a big difference let's try it again so this time we're going to to hope we don't get paralyzed but something worse happens we get cursed now in a run where using multiple Pokémon this wouldn't matter but with just one Pokemon that pretty much gives us a four turn countdown to win and we lose once again so I'm going to try for a third time there are lots of other Pokemon I can battle in case I need to level up we get a pretty clutch critical hit and then night shapes we're at 59 HP and we've hit Level 25 I am going to delete Mist which is useless for agility which is slightly more useful I go for muds slap it goes for mean look which is good I then go for agility and then another muds slap hypnosis misses powder snow and we get a third hypnosis Miss so muds slap once again needed to be the Strat and Agility did kind of become useful although I don't know how useful still a third try Victory versus Morty not nearly as easy or Luck free as Moltres is but not bad for Zapdos I go for muds slap and it goes for curse so that's not going to work I was just curious how much muds slap would do it didn't do nearly enough I kind of wanted a lick miss or something this time I decide to go for thundershock and it also doesn't one-hot and once again curse this is a huge problem we do need a one shot or no curse curse pretty much guarantees us a loss PEC also doesn't one shot and curse so already third try we've lost so Zapdos is struggling the most we might need to level up a little bit more which would waste time because we'd have to go out of our way and after a fourth loss I decide to attempt one more time hoping it won't use curse here it doesn't always use curse I go for thundershock and I get a crit all right well that's pretty lucky but Haunter can still use curse of course it gets fully paralyzed that's insanely lucky that is a 7.5% chance of happening but now we have Gengar we go for thundershock hypnosis misses it then misses after mud slap but then it puts me to sleep uses Dream Eater gains some health back misses with Dream Eater then hits with Dream Eater gains a little bit more Health back hits with Dream Eater again and then I have to reset even though we made it farther due to the incredible luck it took us to get to this point we are actually going to have to level up Zapdos a little bit more which is going to cost it a little bit of time here but that's just the way it goes I went to go get mintberry to make things a little easier and level up a little bit more we're at level 25 and now we do oneshot with thundershock and then we get a hypnosis Miss which is clutch because we have mintberry for Gengar we paralyze Gengar go for muds slap we're getting that par accuracy I forgot to equipment bury which I'm realizing right now which is annoying but we wake up quickly get the paralysis luck the last Haunter does not have hypnosis in the end I messed up and still won so that one extra level plus the mintberry would have been really helpful but hey a wins a win that was like a 10th try Victory there were a couple more attempts before this win where I got really unlucky what can you do some Pokemon are going to struggle Zapdos unfortunately has pretty bad starting moves and the move sets of these legendary birds as you're realizing they're not super great in the early game so not a whole lot for Zapdos to really do the next gym leader however Zapdos will do quite well against at least in theory and that gym leader is Chuck in fact all the legendary birds except for Moltres should have a pretty easy time with Chuck Chuck has a primeape and a poly rra so we can use Peck or thundershock against his Pokémon let's see how that went we're at 206 in-game time as we battle Chuck I go for PEC it almost One-Shots primape and then thundershock knocks it out I'm at level 30 now against poth I go for PE I actually meant to go for thundershock had I done so I would have knocked it out in two hits but that's okay first try Victory three hit K.O easy as I expected it to be Articuno is at 208 in game time so virtual tie between Zapdos and Articuno both of the Gen one a tier Gus doesn't do quite as much although I'm at lower level and then G Poliwrath don't forget Dynamic punch will hit for neutral damage but it misses twice so I believe that's only a 25% chance it misses twice a little bit lucky there but again a first try victory at 1 hour 56 minutes Moltres is right now in the lead and it has the strongest flying move in wing attack it one- shots primate Poliwrath does have surf but it only does just over half damage and we also do over half damage leading to a twoot at only level 29 so you can see our Pokémon are at different levels the timing is a little different but this is about as neck and neck as you can expect between three different Pokémon this is what we probably could consider to be the mid game and there's definitely going to be some pretty Stark differences between the gyms that some of these are good against and some of these are bad against and that might start to affect their timing but I'm really impressed how close in time these three Pokemon are but also impressed that Moltres does have a little bit of a lead although again with wing attack I guess it's to be expected now sticking with Moltres I decide to try battling Jasmine because I do have Ember and I do one-hot the first Magnemite and that means I one shot the second Magnemite and don't forget Steelix is steel ground not steel Rock and because of that after we do over half with Ember rock throw doesn't knock out the double weak Moltres and we're able to beat Jasmine very easily this means that for molus price will actually end up being the seventh gym leader but after doing the lake of ran rocket Hideout hopefully price with his yes I know he's the ice gym but with his water Pokemon won't be too bad for the fire type Moltres now one thing I should mention is that Price's Pokemon don't actually have any water moves and seal which is the pure water Pokemon is one shot by wing attack then then comes out dong we do a ton of damage and Aurora beam barely does anything to me and Piloswine does hit with blizzard but Piloswine isn't exactly known for its crushing special attack and so at level 34 Moltres has defeated the first seven gems in the intended order and fairly easily so right now it's probably the best Pokemon for Zapdos we do lake of rage and Rocket Hideout first and then battle price but at 245 so it's way behind at this point it does have thundershock for seal and it one hit koos it next comes out Piloswine we have to use fly blizzard misses it goes for Miss we hit with fly again blizzard misses again but hyper potion probably we're going to get hit at some point thankfully it's with a fury attack and he never does hit us with blizzard that's really lucky I don't think it would have done all that much but I guess we'll never know as Duong doesn't hit very hard Zapdos knocks out price without too many issues but you can see with Zapdos we have to rely on the much slower fly which is only marginally more powerful than wing attack by the time Zapdos faces Jasmine it's at 2 hours 53 in-game minutes and we're going to have to use muds slap which doesn't One-Shot Magnemite and we have to equip paralysis cure ber since thunderwave can paralyze electric Pokemon again Steelix the best move I have is mudlab but that's not very good so what we're going to have to do is teach a terrible move Rock Smash in place of Thunder Wave which we have used in this run and although rock smash also sucks it can lower defense thankfully in the Second Battle mud slap lowers accuracy which causes thunder wave to miss so we still have our paralysis cure Berry we're going to start with muds slap we want Steelix to miss that's going to be really important so we hit three times then we start going for rock smash and then we go for muds slap again unfortunately rock throw has been hitting we alternate between rock smash to lower defense and muds slap to lower accuracy but Jasmine has been getting some superbly good luck with regards to rock throw hits and Zapdos does get knocked out but I do think we should win this with a little bit better luck with those rock throw misses in our very next attempt which isn't this one I forgot to teach rock smash but in that attempt it actually missed with Thunder Wave which it did not do so it hit with Thunder Wave double negatives anyway we're going to win this one I know spoiler alert we actually win a battle and it doesn't look so good to start we're not getting great defense drop luck or rock smash luck at least in the beginning but then things start to turn around for us once we get to about half HP Steelix just decides all right I'm done hitting you for now and there's not much Magnemite can really do to me it even misses with the Thunder Wave and so while it took a really long time and the strategy is not the thing I'm the most proud of once again having to rely on muds slap Zapdos was able to defeat the Steelix no idea how I would accomplish this in Harold Soul Silver without muds slap but hey that's a problem for maybe future jrose I don't know anyway it's not a problem for me right now that is Zapdos out of the way finally we have Articuno which doesn't really have a great matchup against either Jasmine or price and thus I decided to do the exact same thing as I did for Zapdos rocket Hideout and price unfortunately gust isn't quite the same sort of power that thundershock was but it does do a decent enough job I mean it's going to take a little while to knock out dugong and it does have rest but luckily it doesn't use it and then against Piloswine I do have powder snow unfortunately after I get a crit Piloswine gets a crit and then knocks me out with Fury attack so this actually might be a little more difficult than I anticipated let's try one more time so we're going to go for gust icy wind or speed fell that's not great but doesn't seem to be a big deal now we're going to go for gust Aurora beam's not great luckily it's not lowering my attack but this time it does go for rest but while dong snoozes it can't be attacking me when it wakes up it doesn't go for rest again lowers my attack but that's okay we still knock it out and we can go for powder snow against pil of swine this time it doesn't get a crit and it goes for Fury attack it does hit with blizzard but luckily the math works out that it didn't heal and we were able to beat price on just our second attempt albeit it was much tougher than with either Zapdos or Moltres and now we have to fight Jasmine however our ice type powder snow is neutral against Steelix unfortunately due to the fact it has lower special attack attack and weaker moves it's 3 hours by the time we reach Jasmine so Articuno is in dead last right now we go for mudlab supersonic misses we knock out Magnemite it sends out the second Magnemite and misses with Thunder Wave and we're not going to use powder snow because we can use icy wind iron tail is super effective and hits twice but Iron Tail only does have a 70% chance of actually hitting we would just need one to miss in order to win I've also equipped the paralysis cure Berry because well that's just a good idea it almost comes in handy against the first Magnemite but Thunder Wave misses against the second Magnemite thunderwave hits Paralis curberry is needed there and now we just need one miss I see y wind we don't get the M turn one and we do get the M turn two so icy wind will knock it out we needed icy wind I don't think three powder snows would have done it so yay finally a TM that one of the birds can use and this is something that's important to mention there really aren't many useful TMS for the birds in generation 2 looking through the moves they can learn via TM there are way more status moves than Dam damaging moves and the damaging moves aren't that great sure they can learn thunder blizzard and fire blast respectively but those require a ton of coins and therefore a ton of money something we don't have at this point we are accumulating it and by the time we get to the Elite 4 hopefully we'll have enough however it's not necessarily all that likely that will be the case looking at their level up moves you'll see at level 49 they get pretty good moves with a weird except being Zapdos not getting Thunderbolt and in still getting drill PEC which might end up hurting Zapdos because I mean Thunderbolts a great move and it takes advantage of its great special attack we could just use Thunder but 70% accurate as we saw with Steelix here you don't really want to rely on moves like that but that's a problem for future jros current jros is about to take on CLA and unsurprisingly after we take care of Team Rocket Articuno is going to have the easiest time versus her dragon Pokémon we're at 4 hours 24 minutes as we save in front of CLA but I did get all the rare candies first I haven't used them yet I just gathered them because for now we have to rely on icy wind we're eight levels away to get ice beam which would help us thankfully icy wind does knock out the dragon air in one hit the question is how much will it do versus kingra which it only does neutral damage and the answer is well probably a quarter a half when it gets a critical hit but that actually isn't correct either it's closer to a third and therefore we're able to knock out the KRA fairly easily I wasn't totally certain this would be as easy as it was but I'm not going to complain as Articuno heads to the Elite 4 Zapdos is at 404 well ahead of Articuno but I haven't gone the rare candies yet so factor that in a little bit anyway Zapdos is going to use fly but it doesn't onot and there therefore I get paralyzed you'll notice I do have thunder I did have enough money to buy it I try to use it against dragon air but it doesn't do enough and so I'm going to reset here I then gather the rare candies and use them and you'll notice I'm at 43 so actually behind Articuno but now that I'm at level 49 I do get drill PC which in this instance is more useful than Thunderbolt because it one shots the dragon air which at this point Point are kind of underleveled and I do have to rely on Thunder for KRA but it does have an incredible power boost versus Thunderbolt Thunderbolt likely wouldn't have one shot but Thunder did and so while I'm 6 minutes behind and the reason for this by the way is I've had to use fly a lot and fly is a two- turn attack making my attacks quite slow doubly slow in fact so my hope is with thunder and drill PEC Zapdos will start to make up a bit of the ground it has lost to Articuno what about Moltres it was doing the best last we checked after leveling up and Gathering the rare candies molus is still comfortably in the lead at 4 hours flat and like with Zapdos we're going to use the rare candies although flamethrower won't be particularly useful here the extra levels will be now you'll notice I'm not using wing attack I'm using return wing attack at base 60 power with stab is base 90 will return is base 102 at Max friendship which after the rare candies we are and Kindra since it can't one shot actually goes for smokees screen so that ended up being fairly easy but required a ton of prep work to get it all the way up to level 49 so in a way Articuno has a bit of an advantage here that it didn't have to use the rare candy so quickly since level UPS do happen on a curve the later you can can use your rare candies the better because it's at this point we're about to get to the second hardest part of a gold silver Crystal Run the Elite 4 the Elite 4 is a gauntlet and even though we're using in-game time and not real time long battles having to level up more having to run around and get stuff all of that can make things really bad for my Pokémon the hope is I've set up each of these three well enough especially after Claire that they'll be able to take down whatever comes in their way way I can see Parts where each of them will do well and parts where each of them will struggle in the end the only way to know exactly how they're going to do is just to do it so let's start with Articuno since it is of course Numero Uno all right wow a I don't think we should leave that one in let me know anyway we're not going to be saving between elite four members we're going to have to do this all in one go we go for Icy wind and knock out the first zatu now we have to use Turn versus Jinx but Articuno is pretty weak attack so it's going to take a gust to knock it out after the return slow bro it's going to take more than three returns after it uses curse but we're still at pretty good HP icy wi does knock out zatu number two and exeggutor it is not knocked out by Icy wind so maybe the rare candies would have helped but for now we move on to Koga not a particularly great gym leader not particularly great Elite 4 member we're going to go for gust which doesn't knock out arados then I miss but it goes for spiderweb so all is good we're going to go for Icy wind versus Fortress because I mean I don't even know what to use don't forget in Gen 2 gust is a physical attack and it is going to go for explosion eventually unfortunately for me had I not missed with icy wind which is base 95 accuracy I probably would have gotten by but that's one of the other problems with not having leveled up my Articuno we might have to do so prior to Koga in the end I decide just to use all my rare candies and so I'm up to level 54 and I have ice beam this means a bunch of things not only do we have a more accurate move return's going to do a lot more damage it's now going to twoot slow bro since it didn't use curse so will ends up being a heck of a lot easier slow bro being the only Pokemon we don't one shot now we move on to Koga and I'm going to use fly he baton passes into Fortress and you can see ice beam does half higher level higher base power is all we need we twoot muuk with Ice Beam for venomoth I cons serve power points and use fly which is super effective aidos I decide to go for Ice Beam because it has double team and then Crobat Ice Beam is super effective we only had one PowerPoint to spare but kogo with Ice Beam proved to be pretty easy and I anticipate Bruno won't be too difficult either Bruno's hitmon top has detect so I have to go for ice beam and it does one shot which is nice hmon Chan I go for fly CU it has weaker defense than special defense and we knock it out Onyx they go for ice beam and we onot Machamp has rock slide hopefully this one shot it does but with a critical hit and I'm not sure if that mattered it may have we know knock out hit mon Le and I don't want to have to do this again because rock slide would be really really really bad speaking of really really really bad Karen's annoying her first Pokemon umbreon's very trolly and in a Solo run that can be a big problem if you don't knock it out quickly well we get some good luck Ice Beam does over half and sand attack misses had that hit it would have made this fight a lot more annoying because Houndoom comes out next we go for fly and of course we miss and then we get burned burned so I have to go for ice beam and because of that burn and then that crit we actually end up losing to Karen there's no need to show the other battles again because they're fairly easy so back at Karen this time it hits with confus Ray I go for fly trying to stall out the confusion turns we knock out Umbreon Houndoom I go for fly does slightly more than return we don't get burned and fly hits it doesn't knock it out that means Houndoom is going to heal but I can go for Ice Beam which does about half and then fly is going to knock it out now we just can't get hit again fly doesn't knock out Gengar it uses curse but in Gen 2 only curse won't activate if I knock out a Pokemon which I Do by one-shotting vile plume and merro with Ice Beam so thanks to the way Gen 2 curse works we were able to beat Karen but again in later generations that would not be possible at this point I think it's GG the big questions are Gyarados and Charizard so Gyarados is first but it likes to go for rain dance turn one I think it always does so we're able to knock it out with ice beam and then return but think about what's just happened Lance has set up rain dance and then sent out Charizard which will now do nothing to me because fire moves are weakened by rain and we can outspeed and one-hot everything with Ice Beam except do we outspeed Aerodactyl okay we do thank goodness cuz if we didn't that would have been a problem but GG third try Victory second try at this level pretty unsurprising that Articuno with its ice moves did well against Lance and so when all is said and done Articuno is able to beat the jodo region in 5 hours 31 minutes on the surface not a great time but if mtros and Zapdos really struggle here perhaps combined with good blue and red fight Articuno might win this let's move on to Zapdos which I think has the second easiest time versus the Elite 4 has a really good move set but not necessarily a good move set for the Elite 4 all right so against will zatu I decide to go for thunder shock and it still does enough damage to knock it out I go for drill Peck against Jinx it's enough to knock it out drill pick against exeggutor unsurprisingly super effective move knocks it out against slow bro I decid to go for Thunders shock it doesn't one shot so I should have gone for Thunder but that's okay I want to see if drill peek would do more because zatu has better spit F than defense at least I thought but no thundershock did more and I should have just used it my bad doesn't matter first try Victory on to Koga all righty so Kaa is going to lead with a bug type as we know and we're going to use drill but I misclick and use thundershock so I have to use two of them and knock out Aeros now Fortress I go for Thunder I don't want to mess around it one shot Muk I don't want to mess around go for Thunder it one shots I don't think the crit mattered Crobat I go for thunder shock it goes for double team and then it goes for toxic which is scary I feel like it went for Ultra double team cuz I just keep missing but thundershock does knock it out thankfully the final Pokemon is venomoth another bug type and so we defeat Koga little bit iffy but not really a big deal and I got pretty unlucky there let's be real okay so now we're going to go and fight Bruno with a Pokemon with Drill Pack so we're going to use that against hitmon top it goes for quick attack the scariest Pokemon it has is Onyx steel Wing is a move Zapdos can learn but not accessible until Kanto so it hits with rockslide then Sandstorm then rock slide and unfortunately that may be enough to knock me out cuz I only have six HP left Hitmonchan also has mock punch and so Zapdos will not be able to first try the Elite 4 either in my next attempt unsurprisingly I make it back to Bruno and I go for drill peek after getting hit by quick attack you can see I haven't leveled up or done anything differently and we're just going to hope all right Sandstorm earlier might not be a big deal and we get better ranges with drill pek to knock out Onyx in just three hits Sandstorm does 1 18 as opposed to 11 16th which makes it extra dangerous in generation 2 but drill pick is enough to one shot the champ the sandstorm subsides and we one shot hitmon Lee now we're on to everyone's least favorite trainer Karen Karen I'm going to want to get rid of her Umbreon quickly using Thunder is risky so I think about it I use it and it does hit but doesn't one shot thankfully sand attack misses that's a one and4 chance in gen's 1 and two only I've mentioned that a few times but in case you're wondering why those keep missing drill peek is enough to one-hot the next two Pokemon on and now all we have left are Vil plume and merro neither of which are particularly good against thundershock or drill peek and so we have gotten to Lance on our second attempt so we actually one attempt ahead of Articuno not that that really matters for in-game time but Lance is going to be quite a bit more challenging because we do not have an ice type attack to knock out his dragon Pokemon so quickly we do however have thunders shock but we're not going to use it instead opting for return so that Gyarados uses rain dance which allows me to hit with thunder 100% of the time and thunder does not quite one-hot the Dragonites oh I didn't realize that that is going to be a bit of a problem I thought it would one shot the Dragonite sorry I'm laughing cuz these were all streamed on my twitch Channel and I just read my own lips there can't show you but I think you can imagine the word I said when I figured out it wasn't going to one shot I'm not the best lip reader but anyone could tell that it was not an expression of Happiness after making it to Lance a second time and losing again I decided to level up a little bit more there's a rare candy I missed so I'm now at level 56 I'm going to do the exact same thing letting it set up the rain dance and I have magnet but that still isn't enough to one shot the Dragonite it may be a range but if it is it's not a favorable one we thankfully get two thunderwave misses which is extremely lucky and may allow me to beat this but instead of sending out his Charizard he sends out his Dragonite I go for drill peek which two shots and it's looking pretty good all we need is for Thunder to hit and not miss three times in a row oh good we survive okay we get a fourth opportunity for Thunder to miss four straight Thunder misses now let me just give you some math here two Thunder wve misses is pretty lucky it's a 1 in6 chance 6.25% which is also the same chance of getting a random critical hit so not incredibly unlikely but pretty unlikely the chance of missing four Thunders is one in 123 there are shiny odds in some games that aren't that bad just wow thankfully it only takes one more attempt for Zapdos to get its revenge same Strat let it set up the rain dance for me so I can use infinite Thunders Thunder does more than drill peek and this time we get the range we knock out Dragonite we get the range again so I guess it's 50/50 we knock out Aerodactyl out comes Dragonite the rain stops it goes for Safeguard we get another favorable range after getting an unfavorable one the first time and this time we get first try hit with thunder level 57 booya that was annoying took way more attempts than Articuno but the question you're probably wondering is how long did it take in in-game time 521 so despite Zapdos having issues it still was F faster than Articuno because of how slow Articuno has been through just regular battles and that's something that is hard in these runs to really illustrate is how much longer random battles can take with certain Pokemon but in comparisons like this it does make a massive difference especially in a game like gold silver Crystal where there are so many trainer battles and you want to one-hot everything you can it's being a one-shotting everything let's hope that Moltres is able to do that I mean it has a pretty terrible match up versus Lance but are we even going to get that far in our first attempt let's see all right so we don't have a super effective attack against zatu I do have flamethrower however and it does one shot maybe the critical hit mattered recall Moltres has the best attack of the legendary birds so return is going to do decent damage to shotting slow bro flamethrower does one shot the second zatu and Jinx and exeggutor are weak to it so we're going to have an easy move on is that even a word move on we're going to have an easy Victory and then move on to Kaa so against Koga we're going to use flamethrower one shot ariados Muk again just go for flamethrower it goes for minimize I go for a turn to conserve power points it uses toxic which isn't good I use flamethrower it does one-hot Crobat so that's a really good sign our special attack is really good and having a powerful stab move like flamethrower is doing us really well so far at least against Bruno his Pokemon have surprisingly High special defense so perhaps we might have to use a different attack Let's see we have Wing attacks still as I've alluded to fly only has 10 more base power flamethrower also will one shot the Onyx which is really good it one shots Hitmonchan with wing attack and Machamp with wing attack and once that happened we knew we'd one-hot hitmon Lee so mtrc surprisingly is right now having the easiest time versus the Elite 4 and I'm just going to battle Karen right away I go for return Umbreon misses with sand attack it's doing that a lot probably should have restored my power points here I go for wing attack Gengar does use lick but not curse that's pretty good and it didn't paralyze me flamethrower will oneshot merro and then Houndoom I'm going to go for return again does a little bit more than wing attack does it doesn't one shot but she is going to heal then I get a critical hit to make things a little easier then I use flamethrower and that is it for the Elite 4 aside from the champion of course and the champion is going to be very tough because the only move we really have to damage most of the Pokemon is return and then when it comes to Aerodactyl that's going to be not very effective so we'd have to use flamethrower additionally while we haven't seen it yet Aerodactyl does have a rock move which is double super effective this could be a major obstacle in this run all right so we're going to go for return go for rain dance which is kind of bad and now out comes Dragonite number one no idea what it's going to use it goes for Thunder Wave that's good I get a crit and then it misses so pretty lucky there Dragonite number two comes out and you can see return is doing just around half so the crit may have not mattered we're paralyzed now but it used Hy beam so we make it to Aerodactyl paralyzed at 138 HP it goes for rock slide and crits I don't even know if the crit mattered but that is not how we want that to go as you can tell making a two Lance is Trivial so we make it right back there we're at level 55 so pretty much everything's going to be the same hopefully we get a different result however Thunder Wave misses that's good we knock out Dragonite number one Dragonite number two comes out and we get a crit we use the paralysis cure Berry so we're not paralyzed it's not raining flamethrower no burn rock slide does 137 so I think that's more than I had the previous time we do knock it out Charizard critical hit is pretty lucky unfortunately it's not going to be a twoot but it doesn't even matter either hyperbeam or outrage at 60 HP was going to be enough to knock me out so we're going to have to try something a little bit different we got pretty decent luck in that battle and still really didn't have any great options versus the final Dragonite after four more failed attempts versus Lance you'll notice I'm at a higher level and the way I got there isn't the best we've run out of trainers to fight so I've had to resort to battling the Elite 4 beating them and then intentionally losing at certain points in order to gain the experience that gives us level 57 but there's still a luck component we need one of the Thunder waves to miss and if it doesn't although we can now survive a rock slide that's about all that we can do at 11 HP while paralyzed there's no chance we could potentially win and you can tell this was an attempt I was actually trying to win because I reset here not keeping the experience points I have now spent over an hour on the Elite 4 Moltres has definitely had the toughest time and I'm already at level 60 like in red and blue the Elite 4 is probably going to be what stops Moltres from being even a decently High tiered Pokemon it just really doesn't have an answer and this is a good time to mention as I use Swagger and try to get some luck here not getting paralyzed cuz that's really huge it's a good time to mention how hidden power would change this completely but hold up we've knocked out Aerodactyl we're at 88 HP all we need to do is one shot Charizard and we're good but fortunately we can't do that so we're at 55 HP and that means Dragonite probably will on-shot us and it does so as I was going to say before I was rudely interrupted by that thing we call Hope had i hidden power ice this would have been over a long time ago but there is no way in generation 2 You can predict what kind of hidden power you would get unless you know how to manipulate the game in certain ways and that's just not what I typically will do so we just keep battling in the end after you level up enough you're going to win we're at level 61 now which is pretty crazy and we even have Safeguard to protect us from Thunder Wave this does a couple things although we are hit by Thunder here but don't worry I have a plan and I'm at level 61 so I'm going to go for a turn it goes for hyperbeam and I have rest and chesto or at least min Berry which is what the chesto berry was known as so not quite the same ring as Resto chesto but after we're hit by Aerodactyl we're at 95 HP now the hope is that return will one shot it doesn't we're at 63 but since Charizard needs to recharge and hyperbeam is its best attack it's not going to have many attempts at attacking us and it could even miss and by the time we knock it out we're at 189 HP so really there's nothing this Dragonite could even do and I don't even think at this point we needed the rest that was just kind of icing on the cake this Victory definitely feels kind of hollow and before you guys start questioning why didn't you just teach safeg guard in the first place it's a level up move you don't get it to level 61 once I got it I was able to use this rest Safeguard strategy but in the end it really was just a level up a ton strategy and it's not as bad as you think 6 hours and 1 minutes is is about half an hour behind the other two but not horrendous still maltus is going to have to have an incredibly clean Kanto in order to win and don't forget to beat the Elite 4 we have to get rid of wing attack which was a great move but there was no real other way to do it so it's just going to have to make do without it now the Kanto Gym Leaders as you guys know are pretty universally bad but if our Pokemon can knock them out quickly and knock out the other random Pokemon quickly maybe they can make up time so let's get a preliminary time check as we go to face the final gym leader blue as we save in his Lego gym we're at 721 which is pretty terrible that's slower than any of the three legendary beasts and we haven't even fought red yet but we're at level 67 because we had to level up so much for the Elite 4 so we're able to onot Pidgeot with flamethrower steelwing misses and I just decide to reset rather than see what would happen steel Wing has a 10% chance of missing and at this point I was pretty annoyed I mean we spent so long on the Elite 4 so this time steel Wing hits Sandstorm that's fine then I use flamethrower it knocks it out Gyarados we have return for this I use it it doesn't knock it out it goes for rain dance full restore is fine return is a twoot another full restore that's fine in generation 2 they'll only use it on their highest level Pokemon but blue has three level 58 Pokemon ALG gazam comes out next return one shots arcanon comes out next extreme speed does nothing return two shots another extreme speed we're at 118 and then exeggutor one shot by flamethrower so at level 67 now 68 Moltres defeated blue pretty easily Zapdos meanwhile has done pretty well for itself it's only 635 it's done really really well in Kanto and like we've talked about it has a pretty good move set at this point we're going to use Thunder of course we miss and then Pidgeot hits with thunder that's pretty funny we hit on our second attempt knock out Pidgeot notice how much lower a level we are only level 62 and because of that we're not going to twoot Ryon but remember Ryon can't heal here so we can knock it out with Drill Pack Al gazam comes out next we can knock it out with drill pack next comes out the Arcanine Arcanine might be a little more threatening I go for Thunder and we do knock it out with thunder Gyarados I need to hit I do hit Zapdos is getting some pretty decent Thunder luck and now we just have to use drill peek and hope we onot and we do at level 63 so five levels lower Zapdos also easily able to little tongue twister there first try blue what about Articuno at 6:30 9 Zapdos and Articuno are going to be close can it first try blue we one- shot Pidgeot with Ice Beam next comes out Arcanine but return just doesn't do enough flamethrower does a ton and after a second flamethrower blue is going to full restore this is a big problem for Articuno that its attack is significantly weaker and it doesn't really have a good move to use here so I can switch never melt ice for leftovers and hopefully that will make a little bit of a difference I'm not really sure there is a bit of a strategy though I have so I can use Ice Beam here and then I can go for return get hit with flamethrower leftovers and then I can use fly that will give me an extra turn of leftovers while I'm in the air where it can't attack me but I'm not sure if that will be enough unfortunately Arcanine will full restore a second time I actually did the Articuno run first so I didn't know that he had two full restores or at least didn't remember that so that was pretty annoying I'm going to try one more time of course this time I forgot to equip the leftovers which I didn't realize yet I use muds slap and then get crit and it's at this point after a couple losses I realized we're going to have to change up our strategy spoiler alert it didn't work so I bought some calciums to try to reduce the amount of damage flamethrower would do to me and try to get some better ranges and it did work I do knock it out with just two returns eventually unfortunately alexam then trolls me with reflect I could have just used return there but right on we can onot with Ice Beam you can see leftover slowly giving me more HP in the end had we been a couple levels higher this fight would have been a lot more consistent and I tried using toxic protect strats which is wi duno has toxic on it but like I said that ended up being a dead end it just took calciums and luck which is not my favorite thing to have to rely on but it is what it is and after a bad blue fight only a really good red fight will allow Articuno to Dethrone zaptos which at this point seems to be firmly in the lead as I save in front of red we're at 707 which is slower than any of the legendary beasts so the beasts definitely look to be better at this point but Ken Articuno limit the damage let's see so he leads with Pikachu and Ice Beam does one shot that's really good next comes out Charizard but it outp speeds me and that means I lose because flamethrower does more than half hooray so we're going to actually have to come back now in my legendary beast video when I left silver cave I got some new items figured out a new strategy here I just battled the Elite 4 again and gained more levels cuz I was out of rare candies so I'm at 730 now but I'm at level 69 and the hope is I either outspeed Charizard or it doesn't do half and I outspeed Charizard but unfortunately something I didn't consider is I don't quite do half look at that face but look at that face hey look at that relief but then comes out Espeon Espeon I go for return of course it outspeeds and it went for reflect and then psychic does really good damage it's not going to heal because its highest level Pokemon is Pikachu but with 21 HP what the heck am I going to do versus Snorlax it just goes for body slam and knocks me out well I battled some wild Pokemon to get to level 70 and wouldn't you believe it that made all the difference I'm not kidding here it made this range a little more favorable but that freeze definitely helped me out but it's not just the freeze we now outspeed Espeon and that's huge as well and now we gain Snorlax we can use toxic now Snorlax does have rest so toxic strats aren't the best that was an unintentional rhyme but bear with me here we need to try and make sure snorlax's AI doesn't know it's about to faint Critical Hits will obviously help but yeah that's basically our strategy is to make sure Snorlax cannot rest and after a fly critical hit in two returns that's exactly what happens some pretty crazy luck in this battle probably could have taken wow we don't even oneshot Venusaur this probably could have taken a lot longer and I then miss with fly man I kind of deserve that honestly Articuno in the end really ended up faltering oh yeah there's still Blastoise Blastoise goes for rain dance and it has surf which after the rain dance is going to do a lot but we're just going to use fly toxic strats here Articuno is fairly bulky and I got a little unlucky at the end which how can I say that after the start to this battle but yeah level 70 Articuno and after it's all said and done we're going to save after the the end screen and Articuno ends up at 756 that is almost an hour slower than any of the legendary beasts in fact it is an hour slower than the best beast raicho with that abysmal ending and requiring me to level up in the Elite 4 maybe there's a chance Moltres can make a bit of a comeback here it's only 7:31 as we save but as you know the first save is rarely the last save in front of red all right first things first do we outspeed in one shot Pikachu with flamethrower the answer to that is yes but the both of those is yes next comes out Blastoise flamethrower does nothing and then rain dance return does more than nothing but surf almost one shot me so yeah that's not going to work super duper well however I do have something I might be able to do here if I delete steel wi and teach sunny day perhaps that might help me beat Blastoise unfortunately Moltres cannot learn solar beam why can't it learn solar beam that would be really useful but it can't I also forgot to equip leftover so hopefully those two things allow me to win let's see okay so we already know we outspeed in one shot Pikachu that's very good now I'm going to go for flamethrower because Blastoise will use rain Dan turn one or at least I thought it would now it's going to go for surf but we first sunny day which reduces the power of surf also burning the Blastoise is pretty good so now that the sun is out I'm going to use return surf does very little and don't forget Blastoise can't heal because it's not the strongest Pokemon now the sun is out I can use flamethrower with sun which one shots Espeon Snorlax the sun is out I'm going to use flamethrower which actually does half unfortunately Snorlax then uses Amnesia it goes for body slam it paralyzes me but like Snorlax I have rest so now we're both asleep it has snore but snore doesn't do very much damage just about 20 damage or so after Lefty's recovery I'm going to go for return don't forget it has Amnesia I'm going to go for return again I really don't want to get paralyzed of course I do and it gets a crit which knocks me out close so close but not quite yet so let's try that again again flamethrower on Pikachu check flamethrower rain dance Sunny Day Surf wonder if flamethrower would do more damage it in fact does at least with a burn and then rain dance interesting so that means I can't go for flamethrower I have to go for return Espeon goes for psychic and I have to go for return so worst luck so far I have to go for return cuz the rain is out it goes for amnesia I go for another return it's going to be a three shot potentially it is very good now Charizard is out I go for turn it's going to be a three shot it gets a crit so I have to go for rest will I be able to tank these Wing attacks you know what they're not doing all that much especially after Lefty's recovery so I'm at 157 as I wake up I go for return 125 another return and now all that's left is Venusaur and Moltres on our what third or fourth try has beaten red that was impressive if only it was good like that against the rest of the game molus would have had a much better time but 738 puts it well ahead of Articuno so it did come back the question now is can Zapdos hold on to its lead will it be able to defeat Red's Pokemon or will Moltres be the shocking Victor of the witch bird is best gold silver video let's find out we're at 648 as we battle R for the first time so there's a sizable lead here we're going to go for return against Pikachu and it doesn't one shot I also forgot to give lefties I still have magnet equipped you can see here that Pikachu is healing multiple times because it is the highest level Pokémon Espeon comes out next and I think about it I go for Thunder which was smart because it went for reflect and I get the paralysis that means I can go for drill Peck knock it out and level up Snorlax comes out next and un unfortunately I have to go for Thunder it then uses Amnesia I'm kind of in a really awful spot right now because reflect is up and Snorlax has Amnesia thankfully I get a parah Hax reflect Falls but the luck really didn't work out well for me here Zapdos is not going to get a first try Victory but there are some things I can do a little bit better we can use lefties and I can use the three rare candies to maybe make some ranges a little bit more favorable let's see if that helps so battle number two versus red we're at level 66 we're going to use return and will it onot no but charm misses had charm hit that would have been really bad now all we need to do is wait till red runs out of full restores which is now and against Espeon I think we're going to outspeed so we go for drill reflect sucks so I go for Thunder and knock it out norax I need Thunder to hit it does it does about a third Amnesia sucks I miss with thunder body slam doesn't paralyze I go for steel Wing trying to get that clutch defense raise but it doesn't work out however it did enough that a drill pick will knock out the Snorlax now Blastoise Thunder will one shot and that means all that's left is Charizard which Thunder would one shot if it hit unfortunately not only does it Miss Charizard hits and burns me then Thunder hits so we need to one-hot Venusaur but unfortunately the movie would use drill pack has now been haved by burn so I have to use Thunder and it's just simply not going to work out for me the only hope I have is getting a critical hit with drill PEC which in Gen 2 only ignores the burn that's such a weird Niche Gen 2 thing I've never had an opportunity to talk about that but y second try victory was that for zaptos so yeah this one not as much of a nailbiter in the end as the previous Zapdos was able to win at the lowest level level 67 in fact Zapdos Not only was the best of the legendary birds but it beat Ru and was the best of the Legendary Pokemon Moltres finished in fifth place and Articuno the Beast of gen one finished all the way in sixth place so some surprising results here I know you guys are probably wondering how Mew Mewtwo and celby would do they're very different Pokémon so maybe we'll try those out in addition to hoo and Lugia but for now I have other videos to make this was really fun thank you guys so much for watching and I hope to see you all in the next video take care
