WHAT Tee Height is RIGHT for Every Golf Shot and the #1 Thing to AVOID!

does how you tee the ball up matter yes but only 100% of the time obviously most people tee the ball up with their driver and uh most people are teen it up with their Fairway Woods off the tea box most everybody's also teen up their long irons mid irons all their irons off the tea of the tea only obviously and then what about those short par 3es are you teeing up your wedges should you is there an advantage or disadvantage and if you're teeing these things up how high do you tee each Club up we'll start with the wedges and we'll work our way up from there let's say you're on a short part three should you tee That Thing Up heavily debated topic if you like to tee the ball up on the part 3es this is what I highly recommend you put that tea right there between your fingers like so in the ball I mean you put it down and you want to go in the earth I mean all the way I only want that tea out of the ground like a tiny little bit right there where it goes from wide to narrow you should start getting the wide part in the earth I mean we want the grass touching that ball a little bit that's how I do it right there with all my wedges this is where I would go if you're using a tea on the tea box what's great about this is that I get to look down here and see is my divot in front of that ball right on the ball or is it behind the te luckily for me in this case it's way in front of the tea that's good thing it helps me build confidence so that's one of the main reasons I use a tea with my wedges is find out where I'm striking the ball now a lot of people don't like the T On a par 3 with a short iron with a wedge I got you and I don't blame you because you're never hitting a wedge on a tea the rest of the round so why start on the T box I use a te because like we said we want to see where the ball contact is two if I don't use a te on the part three just mentally I'm thinking about the fact I'm not using a tea when I could use a te and so I don't want to mess with my mental stability out there on the golf course so that's another reason why I do it if you have a stronger mind than me then I don't mind just kicking up a little dirt here making a nice like preferred lie on the tea box step behind it you're good to go that thing's shoot that's better than a tea if you ask me balls perched up it's looking good those are my recommendations with a wedge whatever you do don't make this huge mistake with your wedges the worst thing you could do with a wedge is teed it up like that that's way too high cuz you want to take a divot right so if you teed up too high you're going to hit the ball on the top of the club face and you lose everything good up there like all the good stuff's lower so if you hit it high on the face you're just going to be coming up short a lot and wondering what the heck's going on you hit it good you hit it straight it's just 20 yards short of where it's supposed to be so don't do that with your wedges next up would be everything from wedges to the longest iron you have in your bag so all the way up same philosophy applies is this you're going to te this thing up if you're a teer some people are no te's but I'm assuming 99.9% of all golfers te up the ball when you get the opportunity so here's what you're going to do you're going to just shove that te in to your fingers so you hold your fingers here boom right there that goes to the Earth that's your tea height right there now your fingers are going to give a little bit into the ground so it's going to be a little bit lower it's going to be right there slightly higher than that wedge whereas like the grass is not touching the ball what I'm going for here is just making sure everything's visually perfect and that that I'm giving myself the maximum opportunity for Success if I brush the grass or if I take a divot everything's great the biggest mistake to avoid with irons all the way up to Long irons is this you never want to tee up that long iron too high too high is death let's say you lose 20% distance with the wedge so 100 yards goes to 80 well you're going to lose 80% distance with a long iron so that's what you want to avoid is this two high deal look at that that went like 80 yards and it should have went 210 so whatever percentage that equals do the math but you're losing everything the longer the iron gets so if you're going to make a mistake teeing up the ball with an iron all the way up to your long irons make the mistake of too low shove the tea so far in the ground it's not even teed up if you're going to make a mistake this is the direction I would go cuz it's much better to take a divot with the longest iron in your bag than to hit it high on the club face okay all Fairway Woods metals are going to be the same I'm teeing it up right until my fingers touch the Earth so right here touch we're good it'll go in a little bit farther so it'll kind of be there this allows me to come a lot more shallow from the inside and just brush that grass which is kind of what I'm looking for with a fairway club I'm not looking to take a divot I'm just looking for a little brush stroke that's the theory here one of the questions I get all the time is would you ever tea up of Fairway Wood really high because you want to get some more distance out of it kind of like that no you you wouldn't never do that if you wanted more distance go to your driver don't try to get it from your three-wood or your fivewood or your whatever wood you have another club for more distance don't try to squeeze it from your three the cool thing is if you want in more height from your three wood a little more distance you can open your stance up and open that face up and it will help you rotate a little bit faster and you'll get everything you want without teeing it up and ruining the whole purpose of a fairway Club so I would much rather have it normal height open my body up and swing faster and play a high fade if I'm trying for a little more distance and height or height one or the other never tee that ball up higher than that finger height with a fairway club last but certainly not least is the driver how high should you tee up your driver or should you even te it up there's a lot of people out there well there's a few couple one that uh just throwing the ball down no tea whatsoever and just go going straight off the deck okay this is an option but I would say it's only an option for two reasons one you have a steep angle of attack and you hit down on the ball quite a lot and the ball kind of pops up in the air in that case you might not want to use a te because you just keep popping it up it does help kind of fix swing issu choose that's one option and the only other option I would use it for is if I'm in the Fairway and there's a lot of wind and I want to keep it low and run it as far as possible like at a links course or something and I just want this straight low Runner then I'll use it but it's not really on the tbox so it doesn't really count for this video so on the T boox I'm we going to tee it with the driver 99.999% of everyone this is what you do the conventional teaching has been that uh half the ball come above the top edge of the driver CU you want a little ascending blow you want to hit up on the ball a little bit and if you Tee It Up too low and you come up you would hit the center of the ball so you don't want to do that that's the theory behind teeing it up so half the ball is above the top of the club so that's how much you want to come up on your swing that feels good to me right there and that's the conventional method if you want more distance or you want to hit it high then I would go a little higher how high well it depends how much you come up on the ball everybody's different people who can't hit it off a te and hit it off the deck usually hit down on the ball or they got a super shallow angle of attack so the club is on the ground for a long period of time so if they did that they would just either come right under the ball or hit the top too high on the club face thus ruining everything but if you're able to get an ascending blow upward angle of attack four five 6° then and you really want to get maximum distance then I'm going to get more than half the ball is above the club face and I'm really trying to hit up on the ball here as much as I can because I'm trying to get a lot of height here downwind that type of thing just remember the higher you go the more time that ball's in the air and if you spray it and you miss it it's going to be in the air going the wrong direction for longer and that's bad when you m hit it you want that sucker on the ground as fast as possible now what about teeing it low with your driver why would you do that why would you just hit it off the ground well off the ground is dangerous and you got to be good and you got to practice that a ton to have any success and when you do that uh you're thinking about it 100% of the time so I would much rather if heavy headwind lot of danger I'm just trying to get this as far as I can as safely as possible for whatever reasons trouble either way tons of headwind I'm teen that low literally none of the ball is above the club that's how low I go so this would be teed up basically like this and I'm not I don't care about distance I care about finding a fair way and
