and when you have trouble because you will it must drive us to him not away from him and it's the only way to be rescued is to honor him god i value i honor you i honor the relationship i have i honor what you've done for me i'm in trouble instead of running away and being mad at god we run to him so he can rescue us even if it's your own doing even if you faltered and you sinned and you made huge mistakes you run to him not away from him now matthew 15 8 says these people the words of jesus these people honor me with their lips but their hearts are far from me and so what he's saying is they have or had no true love for god no faith in him and they didn't fear him in other words they didn't reverentially respect and and revere him so that's what he's saying they honor me with their lips they had no true love for god no faith in him no fear of him so they the people he said worship me with their lips in other words they go to church maybe they may even lift their hands on sunday and then on the rest of the days they go live like the devil they in other words they say the right things they have the right verbiage they can articulate the right words they can go through the ceremony if you would but then the rest of the week they live like that like they want to you know i have met i've seen this in places like the episcopals some of the methodists that do the doxology catholicism they're so caught up with the religious ceremonial legalistic activities that the word of god doesn't mean as much as it should you know i've had people come in here and say we don't have enough crosses in here for me to come it's like what what are you thinking what what it's it's like a cross makes you a believer it doesn't make you a believer but that's that's what he's talking about they honor me with their lips but their hearts are far from me or you go to confession and you confess your sins and you go do you know whatever it is some penance and then you're good to go then you go live like you want and then you come back the next week and do the exact same thing or how about communion i've had people over the years say you know i would come to your church but you don't do communion enough and i said well how often should we do it they said we should do it every service i said seriously i said you know that's not biblical and here's what they'll say i don't know and i don't care i just think we should do it see it's not about what the word actually teaches it's about their legalism or they're keeping a ceremony or a religious type activity and so what happens is jesus said see they honor me with their lips but their hearts are front from me how do you know their hearts are far from him because they refuse to put the word first so if that person would have came to me about communion and i said you know the bible and i say this all the time the bible says as often as you do it he doesn't tell us how often to do it we could do it once a year once every 10 years but he said it doesn't matter but as often as you do it you do it this way what happens when it becomes a religious activity there's no meaning behind it so people take it when they're not worthy when they take it unworthily because they're not right with god that's what jesus is referring to they they their hearts were in the world or are in the world they seek man's approval over god's approval they're so worried about what people think more than what god thinks too many today say they are christians yet they don't know the words of jesus from the devil himself that's why you get these crazy people and you know people that it's funny i you know i haven't really watched a lot of it or read a lot of it but i'm starting to read more and more comments on on social media and i'm like please stop you're showing your ignorance they start quoting scriptures and they talk about them it's like that's the dumbest thing they got some episcopal episcopal priest in town that is uh works at unm they should tell you right right there what kind of person he's and and and he and he and he gets on there and he's trying to rebuke us and he uses the scripture out of titus i believe it was it says you know don't get caught up in these these petty controversies over the law and i'm thinking oh no you didn't and so and i'm thinking to myself you big dummy anybody remember samford and son yeah didn't i was quoting them but i thought to myself are you serious that's talking about god's law not man's law so they just take the scriptures people don't know what god says to what the devil says so they say they love god i want you to hear this and i'm going to take up the offering they say they love god but let god ask them to do some simple thing let god ask them to give up something even a small something then they curse god and they say forget it god asks us to do something very very simple folks serving praying giving are fundamentals see people say well i'm doing this so i'm doing like no you're not no no no that's the that's the fundamentals that's the foundation we should all be doing those things but people say nope not going to do it i'm like wait a minute so you you say you love god so you're honoring with your lips but your heart obviously is far from him because you're unwilling to do something he asks you that's simple you see tithing is not difficult we make it difficult because we give ourselves excuses like well if i do this i won't make it i've had that been said to me so many times and they said but we closed our eyes hold our nose and we did it anyway and look what god did for us i i you just you just can't out do god god's not going to ask you to do something and prove him or test him and then not show up it's called faith when god has your heart you're willing to step out in faith you don't know what's going to land but you're like okay then you're likely we gotta take another one here we go and then you realize when you're walking on the solid foundation that god shows up so he's asking us to do something simple it's not difficult it's not hard it's very simple but you have to choose whether you're going to obey him honor him or not so the question is do we just honor him with our lips i love you god and are our hearts far from him or our hearts with them only you can determine that when you hide your salvation you are saying i am ashamed of god when you hide your salvation when you don't want anybody to know you want to be what they you know what's termed an undercover christian or a closet christian which is no such thing either your light is shining or it's not so when you hide your salvation i don't want people to know what they think you you're basically saying i'm ashamed of god remember the message that i'm talking about is honor if god has your heart then you are changing you're making adjustments you are purposing to please god and when god has your heart you're in a constant place of change and adjustments for how long preacher when i'm 90 years old i'll still be in a place of change and adjustments not not because of my age but because god's never done working with us and there's always something to work on psalms 50 if you would verses 1 through 15. last night i read from the pastors it's just kind of awkward i'm reading from the new living translation tonight the lord the mighty one is god and he has spoken and he has summoned all humanity from where the sun rises to where it sets from mount zion the perfection of beauty god shines in glorious radiance our god approaches and he is not silent fire devours everything in his way and a great storm rages around him he calls on the heavens above and earth below to witness the judgment of his people bring my faithful people to me those who made a covenant with me by giving sacrifices then let the heavens proclaim his justice for god himself will be the judge oh my people listen as i speak here are my here are my charges against you o israel i am god your god i have no complaint about your sacrifices or the burnt offerings you constantly offer but i do not need the bulls from your barns or the goats from your pens for all the animals of the forest are mine i own the cattle on a thousand heels i know every bird on the mountains and all the animals of the field are mine and if i were hungry i would not tell you for the world is mine and everything in it do i eat the meat of bulls do i drink the blood of goats make thankfulness make thankfulness your sacrifice to god and keep the vows you made to the most high then call on me when you are in trouble and i will rescue you and you will give me glory now a lot of times in the bible glory and honor are the same word sometimes it's a different word but glory and honor are the same words a lot of translation will translate that to honor because it's basically the same word so let me read it like this and you will give me honor the devil always overplays his hand he always goes an inch too far and then he gets cut off like the craziness in our world these people are going crazy you can't even say mom or grandma you got to say parents folks you got to understand what this movement is it's redefining what god has already defined as male and female he said you were only your mother and father not your parents so you got to realize that they they knew god they didn't glorify him or honor him as god and they worship the creation more than the creator who is blessed forever amen there is no a woman i mean i mean come on what what what what kind of how do i say what kind of idiot do you have to be listen whether you believe the bible or not and you say oh preachers shouldn't talk like that can i say something to everybody how do you know what a preacher should talk like i mean i i get tired of you you shouldn't say those things you shouldn't talk like why not i mean when did i quit being a human being oh but you're a pastor so you should be what a wimp a wuss there's a lot of them in town you can just go find one i'm serious but i always get i always people always amaze me like you shouldn't talk like that why not is it sin no it just doesn't fit your preference because if you want weak and wimpy there's a lot of those if you want someone who will fight with you and stand with you and go the whole way this this is the place you need to be and i'm not puffing myself up i'm puffing you up [Applause] i i i just i just i'm amazed so don't get caught up in that well i can't believe your preacher said that then you just need to tell him believe it i mean what's what's unbelievable he said it i'm just like what's unbelievable about it it's already come out of the mouth and if you look at god's people all through the ages that he used they weren't wimps they weren't scared they weren't they were politically correct i mean think of john the baptist he looks at herod and his and and he's married to his or he's having sex with his brother's wife and he said dude you're an adulterer you're gonna basically go to hell you're you're messed up they killed him for it it so offended her that as soon as she could she said i want his head on a silver platter she had her daughter go do that are you kidding i mean if he had done that in our day they'd have said oh he's so mean why would john say something so hurtful how's he going to win them to christ by telling them the truth let's pacify them and lie to them and then when you lie to them maybe they'll come to christ in a deceptive way so then they can walk away real quick because you weren't honest with them folks i don't know why we hide from the scriptures it's very clear i don't know that's another message i guess but here's what happened here the very act of sacrifice showed that they had once agreed to follow god wholeheartedly verse 14 again says make thankfulness your sacrifice to god god was saying listen i you you sacrifice those those animals because it's the blood who covers your sin now the blood of jesus washes away our sin but he said do you think that's feeding me he said here's what's greater the greatest sacrifice is thankfulness and honor so true thanks again is more than words and i i really want you to hear this if you're going to take anything away from this message other than my other crazy stuff i want you to hear this true thanks is more than words it's action we give thanks true thanks by obeying god in his word see we think we just gotta thankfulness is god thank you thank you thank you thank you that that's a little bit part of it but real thankfulness is my actions i'm thankful when i believe him enough to obey his word that's thankfulness and so many people think it's just words that that that that's that matters more than anything well i told god i was thankful but did you do what he asked it's the same thing with people saying i love god i love god don't tell me i don't love god okay i won't tell you but you don't love god unless you're doing what he asks just because you say the words doesn't make it right i mean i'm always amazing if if you if you're married take any couple just a random a man and a woman that's married and and either spouse comes to the other one and says listen i love you but for the next three days i'm going to go off with somebody else and go hang out with them and do all the things that we want to do but i just want you to know i love you none of you would say that's love everybody say he or she doesn't love you if they love you they would never go off with someone for three days then come back and say baby i'm home you notice i'm making that general neutral because women and men both do that but none of you would say oh yeah and then if you and if you talk to the person i love her i love him well why are you going three days with this person so it's it's it's so ironic to me but when it comes to god and spiritual things our words mean more than our actions god i love you but i'm going to go out here and have an affair with the world and do everything i'm not supposed to do but god just know i love you and don't anybody question my love for him who are you to judge me see that's why people when they use that they're talking about their words they don't that because if you they're not talking about their actions because their actions are bigger than words psalm 50 15 if you i'm going to read it from the holy christian standard bible call on me in the day of trouble and i will rescue you and you will honor me we demonstrate dishonor to god through our disobedience because of that we live under death and destruction we can't begin to honor god until we receive jesus as our lord and savior you don't even begin to honor god until you receive jesus as your lord and savior but we dishonor god through our disobedience see honor originates in our hearts and minds and refers to the values or to the value i should say we personally place on something or someone we honor other people to the degree that we consider their position and contributions significant so the question is if you truly honor god the question is how much do you value him and and your value will be seen by your obedience what we do listen i'm disobedient sometimes i i make mistakes and i i'm a human being but you know god has your heart when you're willing to repent and repent means you're getting it right or you're doing something different you know the bible says for instance to honor your mother and father it's a command you know again it didn't say your parents i don't know why we're afraid of being a man and a woman that's how god created us if you're a man you're a man if you're a woman you're a woman and if you think you're a woman that you i mean you're a woman but you want to be a man or you're a man you want to be a woman you you are now defying god you instead of being created in his image and you being the clay and him the potter you become your potter of your own clay so therefore how can you be his when you're telling god he was wrong and the way he made you it's not my it's not god it's not my fault i mean it can't be because i was hurt or abused or it can't be because my mind's not right god did this when we were commanded to honor our mother and father it's because their position not their performance you notice he didn't say you had to love them you had to hang out with them because some people have had some terrible parents you've been hurt abused neglected rejected abandoned and you say god how can you say that because it's not about their performance it's about their position says i want you to honor them with pastor how do i honor bad parents by praying that they get saved by not bad mouthing them to everybody you come in contact with well they're terrible they may be terrible but god has given you a command so honor is not always about performance it's about position so let's just take it like this god said that we need to honor him in so many different ways well what has he done for me listen at least we should honor his position but if you walk with him a little bit you will not honor him for his position but for his performance but honor doesn't always have to do with performance because some parents in here or you know you've had or bad and and yet god says to honor them how can he tell me to do that it's only the fifth commandment with a promise so i can honor bad parents neglectful banding maybe they put you up for adoption and you feel like why didn't they want me because that's what happens and and there's a spirit of abandonment that hits those kids like what did i do wrong why do they want me how could i honor them they threw me away and yet what happens is we don't we don't think maybe about the family who adopted us and and and took us in and we're we're not grateful that they loved you anyway see god has adopted us into his family [Applause] and he loves us anyway in other words he loves you he wants the best for you regardless of how you act or treat him he has more honor and respect for us than a lot of us do for him see to the level you honor god is to the level you value or a value you place on him so if you have no value to god if you don't place any value then you won't honor them and i'm not talking about you won't make mistakes i'm not talking about you won't have problems i'm not talking about you won't falter or fall or have trouble because he says here then call on me when you are in trouble we have to call on him when we're in trouble why because we honor him and god i place such a high value on you that i really do want to please you even though i know i'm going to mess up see we honor god by giving and living our lives devoted to him and when you have trouble because you will it must drive us to him not away from him and it's the only way to be rescued is to honor him god i value i honor you i honor the relationship i have i honor what you've done for me i'm in trouble instead of running away and being mad at god we run to him so he can rescue us even if it's your own doing even if you've faltered and you sinned and you made huge mistakes you run to him not away from him why do you run to him because i value the relationship so much i'll do anything to make it right anything god i just want it to be right so we've got to be truly thankful and we show thankfulness and honor by what we do not by what we say our words are very empty without action we show our honor to god by what we do our obedience we honor him with our time prayer reading the word our money proverbs 3 9 says honor the lord with your wealth and the best part of everything you produce you honor him you value him so you do what he asks in our service what we do how we treat others see god is a merciful god and it's not about i'm living my life and i have a good job or a good home i'm not being punished see people say this god's a good god so they think well i'm living my life the way i want to without god and i'm okay i got a family i got a job i got all this and we think it's okay we're getting away with it but if you die in that state you're going to realize you didn't get away with anything see honor is about value so if you have a relationship that you really like you enjoy and then you get you know a little strife or whatever and you really value the relationship you will do what it takes you know in in marriage if you really value that relationship you just do what it takes to get it right again if you have friends that maybe you have a you know just an issue or you have something going but but if you value the relationship you'll do what it takes to make it right because you value it so much you want it you know i honor different people at different levels i i honor doctors most the time because they make mistakes too i have i have a good doctor i really do he's a great doctor he treats me well he knows me knows my history tries to help me i honor him but if he didn't like me one day i probably wouldn't run after him like i would my wife some of us put people and jobs and other things we value way over god we'll give up god for a person that well i like him i like her well they're not right where they're not born again they're not serving god so you say i honor and value that relationship more than i honor by you god's that's why you don't get rescued in your time of trouble you just stay in it it's not that god's not loving and kind we all have stuff we all have ways we think and do you know years ago i had surgery on my elbow and and i and the doctor is great dr castle i know him he's a great doctor he's he was friends of ours our kids hung out and grew up together and i hurt my elbow going to africa and coming back on a plane and it just kept persisting so he said hey let's just do surgery so i went to have surgery and i'll never forget that they i went in like at 7 or 7 30 in the morning they said you should be in by nine or ten you should be home by noon well i'm laying there and laying there you know they get you all ready and they put the ivs in you and i'm sitting there and waiting and then you know it's 10 10 30 it's 11 i'm still waiting down in that room and i finally my sister's with me and i finally look at my sister and i said hey cynthia i said cynthia that's my wife you're not my sister you're my sister in the lord i'm thinking about you baby you're sitting there you're looking so good my mind is like stay with it you know just keep preaching anyway so i look at my sister iris and i said iris go get him i'm leaving they said what she goes what do you mean you're leaving i said oh no i've waited long enough seeing it my thought was i honored them but they're not honoring my time so this is a true story so my sister said what i said yeah go get em i'm gonna pull this out myself because i'm going home i'll call dr castle later and i will i will reschedule the surgery because i'm not waiting any longer so they went and got whoever the person in the hospital tries to make customer service for i don't know what they're called and my sister goes and the lady comes and sees at the end of my bed where i'm laying there and she goes mr smotherman i understand this problem i said no there's no problem you need to get someone to take this off me i am leaving i've been waiting way too long i'm leaving and i said you can do it or i'll do it but someone's going to do it. and she said mr smoke would you just give me i said listen i'm tired i i was already supposed to be almost done i'm not even up there true story this is so funny that so anyway she said just give me a moment i said you got one moment then i'm out and my sister was like steve you need to stop i said no i'm getting mad so so think about not being valued not being honored and respected and so that's the way i was feeling so i just wanted to get away so she came back he just said mr smith we're going to take you up right now i'm like well it's about time so they take me up and they drug me true story i was supposed to be out by like 12 noon it's almost like 11 11 30 they take me up i'm like it's about time see man you're gonna take care of this well they drug me and they must have drugged me pretty good i mean it's the only time i could take drugs and not feel convicted whatever the drug was it was awesome because i don't remember anything so i think they kept saying give him a little more give him a little more so they had me waiting upstairs wherever i was in a waiting area and i felt good about it then they drugged me and i was there all day long you know what time i went home at night 10 o'clock 10 30 at night i went home they drugged me so much they said he's out we'll just do him whatever think about it it's a true story and i'm like what the heck i woke up and i said to my mom my mom was there now and i'm like mom it looked i said what time is it she goes steve it's ten o'clock at night i said i was supposed to be out by 12 noon see they could drug me i am not joking i was there forever but we don't get to drug god when we don't honor and value him you don't get to do that and him be like i can't remember you honor him and you value him by your actions not by your words you can say thank you all day long but if your actions don't follow up then you're not very thankful if you don't change god said if you honor me in your day of trouble if you just do what i ask keep seeking me i'll rescue you from your stuff but honor's about action when i was talking about someone that says well i have this and i have that my life's pretty good i don't need god let me read some scripture to you matthew 16 26 and i begin to close and what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul is anything worth more than your soul those are the words of jesus some people are trying to gain everything in the world holding it hoarding it to themselves and they don't realize they're losing their very eternity you're losing your own soul man when you die you're going to hell and so many of us gauge our walk with god on if it's going okay if it's not going okay if it's going okay god loves me if it's not going okay god doesn't care for me or like me and and the truth is whether it's going okay or not god's love never changes for you his action towards you never changes our action towards him changes and folks i'm my wife and i are just like anybody else the difference between my wife and i is i've wanted to quit she's never wanted to quit i wanted to quit doing what i'm doing right now i've many times even even was looking for another job at one point you say why because it was hard and i felt like god where you at and the whole time god's saying boy i'm right here but i couldn't see him because all i could see was my trouble that's why he said steve regardless of you of what you think of my performance you have to honor me because that's the only way you can ever be rescued the only way you can ever be helped when i say rescued let's just say helped free delivered honors about what you do matthew 7 13-14 says enter through the narrow gate for wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction and many enter through it but small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life and only a few find it why only a few find it because there's only a few that will stay thankful and value him and honor him no matter what if you ever think that god has abandoned you see that's what i said earlier we don't know the difference between god and the devil if you ever start thinking god's abandoned you that's not god because god says i'll never leave you no forsake you or abandon you or reject you that's the devil we don't even know we start listening all these thoughts we don't even know because we don't know the bible whether they're god or not any thought that takes you away from god is not from god as i'm just telling you any thought that gives you the right you believe because we we tend not to want to give up our rights to god that gives you you think the right to make an excuse to not do the word is not from god it's from the enemy he's trying to destroy your life and take everything you have even your own soul so you end up in hell so if you want to go to hell there's so many ways to go just pick one if you want to go to heaven there's only one way and we have to purpose on god listen this and i close in luke 12 18 through 20. let me just let me just read it and then i close i got a few minutes let me just finish this up i i'm adding this i didn't i didn't really do this last night but i i kept meditating on the message today and i kept thinking god there's just something to this for those people in here that think well my life's okay i don't need god and you only think you need god when when it's a mess like when something's going wrong and that's how people do they they're hurting they come to god they get the hurt say fixed and then they're out again well i'm good and i don't need god god's not about your need at the moment god's about us needing him all the time i want to read this to somebody in here tonight because god kept dealing with me today and i kept saying and i and i i finally said okay luke 12 18 then he said i know well let me read verse 16. a rich man had a fertile farm that produced fine crops he said to himself what should i do i don't have enough room for all my crops then he said i know i will tell down my barns and build bigger ones then i'll have room enough to store all my wheat and other goods and i'll sit back and say to myself my friend you have enough stored away for years to come now take it easy eat drink and be merry in other words go i'm gonna go live my life the way i want to but god said to him everybody say about god said to him you fool people say i say certain things god says it. you fool you will die this very night then who will get everything you worked for yes a person is a fool this is jesus talking yes a person is a fool to store up earthly wealth but not have a rich relationship with god come on somebody and the truth is you get to decide for yourself do you honor him or not do you value him i value my relationship with him more than any relationship on this earth and after him i value my wife and his relationship more than any other relationship on the earth and then i have my children my grandchild i have friends close friends and i value the relationship and i work hard to make sure i don't have to work hard but you know i will work to make sure i maintain those relationships by the way i i need to say this today january 6th i looked at my wife when we were worshiping i said happy anniversary this is 19 years we've been here now 19 years ago i'm gonna ask for some 19 years ago they installed us as the pastors of this church how many were here when that happened wow wow man there's a lot of you still here thank you so much for taking the journey with us thank you so much thank you i appreciate it wow god has been good and this weekend i'm going to talk about the thought the word i think that he gave us i really believe for 2021 i i really do believe it's it's something good for all of us but if you're here today he said i walked with god and i've walked away you're right pastor i didn't value the relationship with him it was all based on performance with me and god if god did for me and did everything i want him to do and nothing went wrong i i loved him and i worshiped him and if anything went wrong i blamed him that's not honor it's not value that's not even honoring his position let alone what he did for you when he saved you that's enough that's all he ever did for any of us that's enough because at least when we die we go to heaven so if you're here and you walk with him walked away this is your moment to get it right folks we there's no play time anymore you can see the end times are upon us what's happening all over this country the leaders are putting in office they're anti-god almost all of them i'm weak [Music] i don't care whether it's democrat republican i think i think they're all not everyone but most of them are all weak and they honor man before they honor god it's we're there we don't know what day but we're getting there if we're not there already and i would hate to see you miss heaven because you thought well i got a pretty good life i'm doing okay or you didn't value the relationship that god allows us to have with him you didn't honor him you can start today by getting your life right over here or online and you say pastor would you pray with me i've never really given god in my life it's the beginning of the year people come to church they they start seeking god and then they get distracted and then they leave them you know why we get distracted because we don't value him we don't value the relationship we have with him we don't honor him so things begin to pull us away from god and listen if you value a relationship nothing will pull you away you know i value i have two pastors in my life that i value the relationship with them tremendously pastor willie george and pastor tommy barnett and i talk to them on a regular basis but i value i honor the relationship i have close friends that i honor and i value their relationship and and i'm gonna talk about my wife and i because i value that relationship outside of god it's that one let's talk about other relationships that i value them so i i make sure they're i try to make sure they're good and that that we work on them and because i value them i don't want to lose them come on and we should value god to the point we don't ever want to lose that relationship with him that means you got to suck it up when you're having trouble in life whether you caused it or not but it just happened we got to suck it up and say god i'm gonna i'm gonna run to you i'm gonna honor you in my time of trouble because god said then i can help you and rescue you so if you've walked with god it's time to come home if if you've never given god permission your life this is your moment you say how do you know it's my moment because you're here you're listening you're watching and god has a reason for that because he wants you and his family he wants you to value him and honor him so if that's you with every head bowed and everybody online be still for just a moment you say pastor including your prayer i'm ready i'm ready i'm ready this is my moment i'm going to come home i'm going to get this thing right i'm going to invite god into my world if that's you in the powerful name of jesus all over this place without any hesitation i'm going to ask you to do one simple thing and i'm going to ask you to do this because i believe it's a form of confessing jesus before men so jesus can confess you before god and it gives you a moment of clarity to say i don't care what anybody else thinks i'm going to make sure i'm right with god and and and it also gives you courage because if you can't say yes to god in here how are you ever going to value him out there and so if that's you in jesus name right now right now in jesus name without value him like i've never valued him i'm going to honor him right now because i'm going to run to him in my day of trouble he's going to rescue you from eternal death and give you eternal life he's
