rest is the cease to cease from action or motion refrained from labor or exertion rest requires there to first have been movement and exertion rest comes after work as a way of recovery and relaxation after doing something like work everybody say work you can't rest if you haven't moved laziness comes after doing nothing yeah i spent a lot of time on rest laziness comes after doing nothing and we need to understand what god established and god in his word established rest in genesis 2 2 on the seventh day god had finished his work of creation so he rested from all his work now he didn't rest because he was tired he was establishing the importance of rest we all need rest and people get caught up with well it's got to be on saturday the sabbath but you can't keep the sabbath because if you light your stove that's fire you can't do that you've got to make everything the day before i've been in israel and they can't even keep it i mean it's so funny that on the sabbath they can't go up they can't push the button to the elevator i was shocked because i would go on they said oh that's the sabbath elevator you don't go on that one you want to go on this one this is for the gentiles the heathens i guess us and i'm like why would you go on that one he goes well they can't push buttons because they're not supposed to use electricity so so they push every button so when you get on that one it just stops on every floor because you don't you can't push the buttons but i'm thinking but if they're riding on it that's electricity also right i mean if you're riding on an elevator it's not two guys up there pulling a pulley and then i said well how they turn on their lights in their house someone said this i'm like what because they can't touch the switch but here's what i believe god's establishing we do need to rest but not to the point of laziness see a trainer taught me one time when i was working out i i do what they call all body workouts you know so i work out every part of my i guess i know everything just hurts and he told he would tell me now pasteb now after today do not do anything tomorrow i said what do you mean he goes i know you're going to want to don't your body needs to rest rest is as important as the workout so we do need to rest but we need to understand what it is and what it's not so resting is a good thing especially if you've been working hard for long periods of time it can help you recharge and before getting back to work but when it comes when it becomes a constant behavioral pattern that infringes on your overall productivity that's when you know that you're in trouble see you have moved from rest to laziness laziness is the quality of being unwilling to work or use energy or idleness idle means of a person avoiding work lazy without purpose no effect or effect pointless doing nothing laziness resist trying to change things and there's so many people even in the body of christ the reason we don't change it's not because the word of god is not being taught or the word of god is not powerful it's because we're too lazy to do the work it's because it takes work how many all know it takes hard work to change and to change things i mean people want to lose weight and they say well i'll just lose weight by what doing nothing no you're going to have to work out you're going to have to watch what you eat it's going to take discipline and work and so people today they just they just don't they don't even try they they and laziness blames everybody else and so you and i have to understand and let me say this about the scriptures because i hear this a lot but from christians that we're supposed to help people yeah we are but the bible never tells us how to help the poor you notice that he never tells us what to do for them it's up to us what we do but can i tell you this god never tells us to help the lazy not one time in fact he talks about the lazy you don't work you don't eat and maybe some of these people who are lazy like laying on the couch doing nothing all day and you know what laziness they just blame everybody for their issues because they're too lazy to get up maybe if they got hungry they would get up and do some work people say well you're a little cold blood no i'm not i'm not helping lazy people i have no and no biblical reference at all and nothing in my heart says go help that guy he's just so stinking lazy go help him why don't i spoon feed him like a little baby get up off your derriere and do something i know proverbs 6 verses 6-11 solomon begins to talk take a lesson from the ants you lazy bones that's where we got the title got it okay learn from their ways and become wise though they have no prince or governor or ruler to make them work they labor hard all summer gathering food for the winter but you lazy bones how long will you sleep when will you wake up a little extra sleep a little bit more slumber a little folding of the hands to rest then poverty will pounce on you like a bandit scarcity will attack you like an armed robber see laziness causes us to be unprepared for the future and the ant is always working hard for the future but the lazy don't and so the difference between success and failure really is often hard work doing the extra because we do have an enemy called average and people say well that's good enough good enough is never never should be good enough good enough means it could be better but we're okay with this and that should never be that way even at our church here my staff knows my team knows everything's on the table to change why because if we can do it more efficiently if we could do things better then we're going to change and do that because good enough is not good enough and for the average person if you would just do a little bit more than average you'd get so much farther ahead than if you just stay average because it's a very small group of people that will go above average so there's not much competition there but we we have different attitudes towards things see here's what we know dreamers talk a lot but do nothing doers don't say much they just do they go to work so you have people who are dreaming all the time i'm going to do this i'm going to do that i'm going to do that then they come to you and want you to fund their dream and then i look at them because i get it all the time i'm like well what have you done how much of your money have you put in it have you even put any sweat equity in it oh no but if you help me i'll get it done oh no no that's not how it works see that's not even a principle of the word of god the word of god is you go do your thing and you get it going and when you've put some investment in it then maybe we will help you but we're not going to help you do nothing because dreamers do a lot of talking but never any action it's the doers who do they go to work so i have a dream then go to work do something learn something but today we live in a society that says man everybody needs to do for me and we're getting more and more dependent on the government through this coveted stuff folks that's a mistake because you transfer your your allegiance from god to them and i don't care who's running the government it's all messed up especially in our state people say why do you keep talking about that because i think someone needs to i mean and people say well you're a christian they tell me you're a christian you're a pastor you shouldn't be talking about her like that why not i mean what is she the queen that you can't ever that you you can't you can't come to a place where you disagree let me tell you something i'm not even that smart but i could have handled this better in my sleep than she's handling it today and i wouldn't see watching people their lives being ruined why she gets her hair done yeah that ticks me off i want her to know i was getting mine done anyway i'm kidding you say what hair i know see that's the issue that's mine went wavy goodbye i know i know i know i don't like it but it is what it is isn't it see solomon asked the lazy man to give an account for his ways you want to sleep well how long are you going to sleep see there's life to be lived and work to be done it's not that we shouldn't sleep because we need to rest but if you listen to the stuff they say well you need eight hours and then i read something the other day and said i don't know if you need eight hours listen listen i don't want to spend my life just sleeping and the more you sleep the more sleep you need the lazier you are the more lazier you become can i talk to you about something for a second the reason a lot of people have no energy after their work day because you know in america 40 hours is like pushing it like you work 40 hours oh my gosh and my thought is just work till it's done and if it takes 50 hours or 60 hours oh yeah but that infringes on my what my rest or doing nothing and the reason a lot of people today go home from work and they say i'm just so exhausted i just have no energy it's because you have no goals after work have some goals when you go home fix say when i get home i'm going to fix this do that whatever i'm going to i'm going to spend time with my kids i'm going to help them with homework i'm going to do something see if you go home with that mindset here's what i guarantee you'll have more energy try it listen i double dog dare you to even try it just try it and see if you go home thinking okay when i get home i'm going to do this this and this instead of saying i'm so exhausted when i get home i'm just so tired you know honey give me a drink yeah that doesn't work today in our culture like you get your own drink but what i'm saying is guys we got to change our thinking but that takes work and lazy people don't want to change proverbs 10 4 and 5 lazy people are soon poor hard workers get rich i don't know about you but if i thought okay god do you want to be poor steve or rich i'm going to pick rich every time it's not even going to be a thought like ah i'm going to be rich how many of y'all say the same thing come on we i don't i mean if you're online you know who wants people say oh man you know when you're poor you're humble no when you're poor you're poor you're just hungry i've been poor it's no fun i'm like man when peanut butter and jelly is your highlight for the week choke and slide man you didn't you don't have any milk you got to put more jelly so it goes dead i mean i say this all the time but some of y'all really don't get it right peanut butter and jelly should be called choke and slide choke on the peanut butter slide on the jelly lazy people are assumed poor hard workers get rich a wise youth harvest in the summer but one who sleeps during harvest is disgrace proverbs 12 11 a hard worker has plenty of food but a person who chases fantasies has no sense proverbs 12 24 work hard and become a leader be lazy and become a slave folks and i know those aren't good words to use today but we do have a form of slavery and it's called being dependent on the government and they get to dictate everything you do and say we've got to change our ways i'm going to work hard proverbs 19 15 laziness brings deep sleep and the shiftless go hungry that means the lazy as a believer we should always have a purpose always abounding in the work of the lord first corinthians 15 58 says therefore my beloved brothers be steadfast immovable always everybody say always always abounding in the work of the lord knowing that in the lord your labor is not in vain because of the resurrection nothing we do is useless and i'm going to say this to people you may not like where you work today but how do you not know that god didn't place you there say there's a mama somewhere praying for her son or daughter and says god send a believer into their life so that they could know you and then god says i pick you and i'm going to put you in this place and all we do is if we whine and we cry and we moan and we we badmouth our bosses and we just have a stinky attitude how are we ever going to witness to that person wherever you're at you have to believe that's where god wants you well you don't know my boss i don't need to know your boss and you know what bosses don't get to say this but sometimes employees are awful too i mean you listen to some employees there's never been a boss my boss this and my boss that i'm looking at i'm like oh my gosh really with employees like you we get so much done we don't ever want to admit we're not very good at that but we're to always abound in the work of the lord that means wherever i'm at i'm in the work of the lord yeah but you don't know how my boss it doesn't matter folks i worked at ups for 10 and a half years i know what it's like my wife worked at albertsons for 18. we didn't always do this i know what it is to have good bosses and bad bosses i had a boss come up to me one time when it was in the morning he said i'm riding with you today i said good and he said you know my goal is and i said what he said to fire you by the end of the day i mean what a way to start your morning i said wow and so we went out on my route i had a country route i would i had i drove on some of the worst roads at the time in all of oklahoma because when it rained it would just get bad you get stuck and i knew the area pretty well so it rained some and he was mad because i would put utl on my packages and say unable to deliver muddy road and he didn't like that he said you need to deliver him i said i can't get down the roads so he rode with me that day i'll never forget we turned this corner and there was this and i stopped and he said why are you stopping i said because we shouldn't go down this road and he goes we can get down that road you can make it i didn't even hesitate i said okay and you know it's a threesome like and all of a sudden right before we hit the puddle like it wasn't like a puddle was like a whole thing he's going to stop and it's like dude it's too late to stop we're not stopping so we went right in that and just sank and an old farmer that i know that knows because i deliver out there he said what are you doing i said not me dude i'm pointing at my boss like and he looked at me and he looked at him and goes really he said let me go get my tractor and i'm looking at my boss like really dude and and and you know the whole day all he said is i'm gonna fire you before this day's over when it was over he goes okay i do believe you now there's roads you can't get down and and can i tell you something i was young 22 years old dumb just had a big mouth and i used to moan and groan about all the time god i can't stand this is so hard and you know i don't remember god ever saying to me one time like i agree and i told my other my big boss it was his boss i said i think i'm gonna quit i can't handle this he said don't quit steve that's dumb don't quit that's a good job and it was a good job i mean i'm a young guy making a lot of money and and so i kept going and and finally one day i came in and that boss that was over me left they moved him he was gone for years and one day i come to work after years he was there and i'm like oh here we go again man i thought i got delivered from this and he pulled me aside and he said can i talk to you and i said sure and he said man i owe you an apology i had no i i still to this day don't know why i was doing to you what i did and i'm thinking well maybe maybe that was the hand of god too and you say how can that be the hand of god see we don't think anything's the hand of god that's hard that's why we don't like to work hard or some people don't some people do and then i had to think to myself okay god's trying to toughen me up or show me steve i don't care how hard it is i don't care how hot it gets i don't care how cold i don't care how mean i don't care who your boss is you work for me and we need to decide as believers who we work for and if we work for lord will the lord will always abound in the work of the lord because because of the resurrection nothing we do is useless sometimes we can get discouraged serving the lord because we don't see any results knowing that christ has won the ultimate victory should affect the way we live right now nothing should keep you from doing the work of the lord and when you do what what when you do for god we should give it our all and so i had to wake up one day and realize that even at ups i'm not working for that man i'm working for the lord i should be better than good i should work hard regardless if he's nice or mean because my blessings come from god and if how many i would like to be promoted to get a raise then work for god instead of the man and when you work for god instead of a man the man will be pleased with your work we've got to decide who we work for we have to decide that and if i'm working for god listen folks god on my route i i prayed with people all the time people would find out i'm a christian i would pray with them a guy that got ms who was a marine i would deliver all these boxes to his house and and i would just you know drop him up you know i just dropped my ding-dong and run i'm running i'm moving and one day he caught me he would stay at the door and he said hey and i'm looking around like what he said can you come here for a minute and he showed me he's in a wheelchair and he said man dude i know you're in a hurry but could you just at least open my door and put the packages in i can't get them from where you leave them and man my heart broke and then all sudden he starts telling me his whole life i'm the ups guy i'm no preacher but can i say this even though i was no preacher i was still a preacher to him and no matter where you're at you say i'm no pastor i'm a preacher but you're preaching to somebody every day and you have to decide and you have to determine what am i preaching to them what is my example what kind of influence am i having and he proceeded to tell me that he said i'm a coward and i said why do you think you're a coward he said because you know how many days i've sat with my gun in my lap and he said i was i was a coward because i couldn't pull the trigger he said my body's dying from the feet up and he said i can't move i i can't live the way i want to live and i'm only the ups guy i'm in brown uniform shorts even see even though it was hard i got hurt there i got my neck still hurts my back still hurts from that you say well how can that be god because god places us in places and if we don't work for him we'll never understand why we're where we're at all we'll do is keep complaining and acting just like everybody else instead of whining about your boss pray for your boss well you don't understand no i do understand i'm just one of those preachers that gets it and when i finally got my attitude right it only took me 10 years yeah not very smart then god moved me then he moved me to roswell america that was even harder than ups ups started looking good after being in roswell for a day or two i lived in the worst house i've ever lived in to this day drove the worst car i've ever driven in my life and the whole time i had to decide and you have to decide for yourself who are you working for when i was at ups they used to even some of that we were in a union so the the older union guys would come to me and say you need to slow down because i would run all day i just run i just wanted to get done they said man you're making us look bad you need to slow down i'm like i don't work for you i'm going to do what i think i need to do because my our blessings either come from god or they don't and then i used to get notes on my locker in the locker room because we had to go get dressed in there and there would be these notes with the phallus language you blankety blank blank and i was so young and dumb i would get that note and i grew up with three brothers so i know what it is to get whooped and i know it is to whoop somebody and i wasn't very big i was 155 pound but i meant i had a bad attitude sometimes and i would hold this up and say who put this on my locker all these older guys would look at me i said who's the coward just say it to me let's just settle this because i'd rather be settled win lose or draw let's just settle this and then no one would say anything but when i left some of those same guys came to me i wasn't the preacher i was their ups person i was just their their peer and they looked at me and said what are we going to do now and i said what do you mean goes you're the chaplain i didn't even know i was a chaplain but here's what they were saying you always talked about god folks you and i have to decide who we work for and if you don't understand that you will always mess up see it's a sin to be lazy doing nothing while the whole time blaming others for your issues proverbs 13 4 the soul of the sluggard craves and gets nothing while the soul of the digital digital is richly supplied in other words those who work hard will prosper proverbs 21 5 good planning and hard work lead to prosperity but hasty or reckless if you want to use that word shortcuts lead to poverty there's only one way and that's to do it the right way work hard i know people who are so successful and every time i ask them their story and and it's never failed i say what did you do to be successful when they begin to tell me how hard they work how much they sacrifice how many hours they put in it's it's obvious why they're prosperous and then i talk to people that moan if they work more than 30 hours a week i wish i had a job that i could work 30 or 40 hours a week and go home you know one thing about my job i'm never not the pastor in other words no matter where i go i'm the pastor i was at some place the other day and and about a few weeks ago actually and i'm just talking and this person turns around and says i know you and i looked at him and i said yeah i'm the pastor legacy church i knew i knew that voice so you can't act a fool in fact we should never act a full anyway because how do we know if we're not there wherever we're at today as a result of someone else's prayer how do you know you're not the answer to someone's prayer but you'll never know if you only work for the man and you don't work for god you'll never know to work hard requires some self-discipline though doesn't it the ability to follow through which is hard for people to do because we have a sin nature we have this nature in us that's sin we're always fighting to do the will of god everyone's internal compass is broken everyone we all need spiritual guidance every one of us and that comes from god's word because god's word gives us spiritual guidance jeremiah 79 the heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure who can understand it see our hearts are inclined towards sin from the time we're born that's why we need god's guidance it's the only thing that can reveal the thoughts and intents of the heart hebrews 4 12 says the word of god is quick and live and powerful and one of the things it does it lets us know the thoughts and intents of our heart because the heart is deceitful above all things who can know it that's why we need the word of god to guide us to help us we need spiritual guidance because our internal compass is broken just because of our sin nature and if you don't have god's guidance whose guidance are you listening to you can make all the excuses you can tell me how bad your bosses are you can tell me why you don't want to go to work and i can show you people who are hurt who are physically hurt who all they want to do is go back to work do you know why the world is so messed up in our state so messed up and suicide rates high violent crime domestic violence is on the epidemic dui's are going crazy it's because people aren't allowed to work it's a violation and so can you imagine two people who are used to working living together married and all of a sudden they have to look at each other every day all day and after about two minutes they have nothing else to talk about so they just fight they nitpick we're we're supposed to work god gave adam a job listen to this in genesis 2 15 the lord placed the man in the garden of eden to tend and watch over it the greatest place in the history of the world was the garden of eden it's the it's the paradise upon paradise like like it's it's perfect and then god gave adam a job in perfection in paradise he said you do this in fact he brought the animals to adam and said adam whatever you name them that's what they're going to be called i mean god could have said adam that's the elephant that's the tiger that's the bear oh my he could have did all that but he said adam you name them because that's your job see we need to understand work is a gift from god work is a gift not a curse so we must check our attitude towards work colossians 3 23-24 work willingly at whatever you do as though you were working for the lord come on somebody that's that's what i've been talking about you're either going to be working for god or you're going to be complaining and moaning and groaning listen i don't want to hear about your boss if you're a christian and a believer a true believer you should be working as unto the lord no matter how hard it is no matter how tough it gets and god is the promoter he's the one that blesses you know how many people i've had come up to me and say pastor steve my job told me that they weren't given any raises this year and then i got called in today and they said we're going to give you a raise though i don't know how many times i've been told that i said man that's the hand of god and here's what i know when i walk away they're not working for a person they're working for god they understand who they're accountable to we should be the best employees in fact people should be calling our church every day employers saying do you have any more of those christians because they're the best workers ever they're the strongest they they work hard and they just get their job done they never complain they just do their job that's the that's the that's the example we got to be what are you preaching to other people quit telling me words and start doing start acting it's the way it is and if you want to be a success you have to do more than the average i mean people tell me sometimes man i just need more money and then you'll hear whether job offered you over time oh i'm not going to do that like what somehow it's because work is like a sin and if you work it takes away from your family the whole thing how can we not i mean i don't understand it there was a time i worked three jobs full time at ups i refereed constantly almost six days a week and i worked for willie george in the church part-time all at the same time my wife would tell you i never neglected my family see i think that's something the world has put out there because when i went home i was home i played with my kids i spent time with them i spent time with my wife and i was home and time to go to bed at night so i don't understand it so i think in my mind god if people want to get ahead work work hard do something maybe change your ways don't be lazy about it and if you want to get to know god better get in his word and start doing it let me read it again work willingly willingly that's another attitude at whatever you do as though you were working for the lord rather than for people remember that the lord will give you an inheritance as your reward and that the master you are serving is christ we can't be lazy we got to work hard we got to do what's right and if you're an employer you should want to treat your people with respect doesn't mean you don't have to deal with stuff but you should be respectful because you're going to be accountable to god too how you treat them folks i i believe in wisdom not the dum part and the only way i know to get it is through the word of god i gave you lots of scriptures the lazy i'm not responsible for the problem with our system it never ch it never separates the lazy from the poor if someone's working hard i don't mind helping them most people don't they need help with child care i don't mind helping with that if they're working hard if they're contributing but the bum laying on the couch all day i owe him nothing or hurt nothing i owe them nothing but you know that person that lays on that couch they think everybody owes them something that's why our country's in such a mess that's why there's even any debate on who should be the next president or who should be president and i know people hate me because of my stance oh i read it and i'm like huh and the reason they hate us sometimes is because we have a stand and and if you if you've never been criticized for your faith you've got to ask yourself have you ever exercised it oh man there's a lot of wooing going on in here i'm just throwing some stuff out there to see where it lands guys we we have an opportunity to change not not just our state but the world around us the influence that we do have go to work tomorrow and have a whole different attitude quit butting up with all the people that whining complaining just say dude i'm done with that if they say why say i work for the lord i don't work for him i don't work for you either if it's a peer not your boss you don't say that your boss like man i don't work for you i work see here's how people use it i don't work for you i work for god so i'm gonna do what god tells me oh no no no no no no when you're doing what god wants you to do you'll do what the boss asks you to do i have people that come to church here and work here and have over the past now we don't we have a great team but they tell me we'd say why didn't you do what we asked well the lord told me i said wait a minute what pop wrong answer you work for us you're supposed to honor authority where the lord talk no wrong answer again the lord told you to submit to the authority over you and the lord told you when you go to work you work willingly as unto the lord so here's what we're asked to do we're asking you to do this you're going to do this or not and some people say no because i'm going to do a god once okay here's what god wants god needs you to leave now and then they're shocked i had somebody tell me one guy let go he goes well that's not what i got in my heart and i remember saying nobody i don't know what you have in your heart but what i have in my mind is you need to leave and people say you don't really do that yes sometimes we have to so when you go working for the lord it doesn't mean you ignore your bosses or do your own thing it means you do what they need you to do now if they're asking you to lie cheat or steal you don't do that but if they're asking you just to do your job you do that they need you to work overtime volunteer say hey you don't even have to ask me what do you need because we're pointing them to god everywhere we go everywhere we go we should always abound in the work of the lord folks because wherever you're at that's always when you go to the store don't act crazy don't scream at people don't flip people off either don't get mad when someone takes your sparking spot right in front of you just chill and go on do your thing but we want to throw fits but if we're always abounding in the work of the lord it'll change our attitude and not only that it'll change your circumstances because now god says i can bless you amen change is hard work but we should be the best at what we do wherever you go to work tomorrow and if you say when i haven't been working then go get a job believe god go get a job go to work and then work hard [Music] work hard father in jesus name we thank you father for billy work and we know father when we work hard we need to rest some and so father help people to rest when they rest so they can be recharged rejuvenated to to get to go to work father if we're lazy show us that let your word that we was preached today discern the thoughts and intents of the heart just not to hurt us and you're not trying to come against us you're trying to help us hey man i gotta get my attitude right over here i gotta watch my words over there i can be careful how i'm acting father thank you for always wanting the best for all of us thank you for being here today thank you for teaching us and all those online that father would have ears to hear what the spirit of the lord is saying it's time that we begin to depend on you more than ever it's time we put you first in our lives and father i have so many stories of people that i prayed with and i spent time with as a ups guy not as a pastor just as a believer that maybe that's all they knew maybe that was the answer to someone's prayer how do we know we're not the answer to someone's prayer and you said they can handle it i'm going to put them in this situation is it going to be difficult yes is it going to be hard at times yes but they'll stay faithful because they know they work for me and lives will be changed because of it prayers will be answered because of it god give us the strength and the right mind that when we leave here today we'll even discuss with our friends or our spouse our children that man everything we do we do for god and if he's our boss and he sees everything he never sleeps or slumbers i'm going to do it right i'm even going to try to work harder than i've ever worked and father when they do i pray your blessing is upon them help us all god it's a struggle it's a fight we have a flesh that man wants to do wrong all the time we have a flesh if we let it we'll just be lazy and there's no nothing wrong with chilling out from time to time because that's the rest but man we got to always remember we're working for christ so father in jesus name thank you for helping us teaching us being with us but if you're here if you're online or in this house with every head bow just for the next few moments and you say pastor would you pray with me i've walked with god but i've walked away you're right it was hard it was difficult but i want to come home today and the good news is god wants you to come home he's been dealing with your heart from the moment this service started maybe before you came to get right with him or maybe you're here and you're online and you say i've never really given god my heart because listen you're not saved until he is lord that's what the bible says in romans 10 9-10 if you believe he's lord then you'll be saved so many people say i'm saved but they don't believe in lordship lordship is honoring the word of god not your word his word with what he wants you to do we got to set aside our own fleshly thoughts and say god what do you want me to do what does your word declare and so if you're out there and you've never really committed your life to the lord then you're not saved you may have prayed a prayer a bunch of times and you say but it never takes it's because you've never made him lord first what does that mean that means you submit your will to his will you say from now on god whatever i learn in here i'll do and i believe this whole council of god it's all inspired by the holy spirit and if that's you without any hesitation please i'm not going to ask you to do anything hard i'm just going to do something if you say hey that's me i need to get my life right i really do i need to ask jesus to be lord of my life so i can be saved save from what preacher save from eternal death to eternal life from spending forever and ever and ever in hell to spending forever and ever and ever in heaven with god save from our sin if that's you in the
