well it's this time of the year where rookie prospects in the NFL are all anyone wants to actually talk about and I mean who can blame that six quarterbacks going in the first dozen picks six of 12 that's so wild it's kind of crazy right even though most rookies won't become long-term starters let alone even great players we could say the prospect of having like one of these star players that could possibly become the next Superstar or face of the NFL is just absolutely exhilarating every single year and as I said before While most rookies won't pan out a select few will hit the ground running and Excel in their first year as a professional the CJ Strouds of the world if you will and you guys know me I love me some 2010 football because I mean that's the decade I grew up in and luckily that was the decade with some of the greatest and maybe even some of the worst rookie of the years from the oldest winner to guys who were picked first overall and aren't even in the league anymore let's look at what happened to every offensive Rookie of the Year winner in the 2010s now all the way back in the year 2010 we have Sam Bradford after red shirting his freshman year at Oklahoma Bradford immediately came onto the map as one of the best quarterbacks in college football and even posted 4,700 passing yards in his Junior season and for those statistical numbers Bradford was selected by the St Louis Rams with the first overall pick in the 2010 NFL draft he went on to have a pretty good solid rookie campaign throwing for 3,500 yards and 18 touchdowns while breaking pton Manning's record for completions as a rookie with 354 he by no means though was actually like lighting up defenses though the Rams went 7- n and missed the playoffs but his season was good enough to win the offensive Rookie of the Year award and give Rams Fans hope for the future unfortunately and as we'll kind of see with several other Rookie of the Year winners Bradford really didn't have the success based off of what he did in his rookie year injuries completely derailed Bradford's sophomore season and he was only able to win one game out of the 10 that he did play throwing for 2100 yards six touchdowns and six interceptions in the process and while he did have a rebound in 2012 improving upon his rookie stats with 3,700 passing yards in 21 touchdowns the Rams still struggled to win games going 78-1 The Following season in 2013 would be his final year as a ram after tearing his ACL in week seven and Bradford went on to become a journeyman quarterback for the few seasons after before eventually hanging up the cleats in 2018 with the first pick in the 2011 NFL draft the Carolina Panthers select Cam Newton quarterback now in 2011 we have the incredibly polarizing Cam Newton that's watch this Newton drop straight back there's a Crossing route mcaffrey tou and look regardless of your opinions and honestly I don't care what I'm about to say right now because he was possibly and I do think this the greatest College quarterback of all time while he was at Auburn above Tim TBO yes that's how good he was at Auburn like Bradford Newton was drafted with the number one overall pick in his class by the Carolina Panthers like literally like I'm sleep I open my eyes and like my life is about to change forever but unlike the previous Rookie of the Year winner cam quickly became one of the biggest stars in football like I mean this guy was just absolutely absolutely as flashy as could be at the quarterback position and started off his career with a bang throwing for 4,000 yards in his rookie campaign a feat that few have ever accomplished but what made it even more special is that cam did it while also adding 700 more yards and 14 touchdowns on the ground one of the most impressive rookie seasons of all time and now this Panthers team did take a couple years for them to really catch up to like Cam Newton's level but once they did this was one of the most feared teams in the NFL for that 2 to three years when he was in his prime and now in 2012 cam did slightly regress a little bit but they did put up a 12-4 record before ultimately losing in the divisional round to the 12-4 49ers who somehow did land a wild card spot and even though this postseason finish was disappointing the 2013 season showed the true potential of this Carolina Panthers team with Cam Newton but I mean in 2014 they did heavily regress and despite regressing in that year in a strange turn of events car Carolina managed to clinch a wild card spot with a 79 And1 record and actually won a playoff game before losing to the conference Champion Seahawks and while this could follow a similar story with you know Sam Bradford and kind of Cam Newton already falling off and the Panthers already struggling in 2015 Cam Newton absolutely took over the NFL Newton the quarterback draw diving into the endzone for the touchdown Greg he really was Superman on that play that year the Panthers were absolute Unstoppable and cam put together one of the best dual threat campaigns of all time with over 4,400 allpurpose yards and 45 touchdowns leading Carolina to a 15-1 regular season record and winning the NFL MVP award Newton then beat Russ's Seahawks off back-to-back Super Bowl appearances and knocked off the Cardinals in route to his own Super Bowl unfortunately for cam the Magic Carpet Ride ended here when the Panthers lost to the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl 50 as we all remember Newton's decision not to die for a Umble was heavily criticized in the loss but the Panthers struggled offensively throughout this contest and honestly never had a chance it Ain no excuse for me not jumping on the fumble I should have jumped okay so I'm not even going to give you something because that will be the take that somebody I should have jumped on the fumble okay straight up there's no the competitor and me if that happens again duh and I mean ultimately this season would be the peak of Newton's career and although he played for five more seasons as a starter in the league he was truly never able to recapture the magic of his MVP season all in all though he will still go down as a great player and the best quarterback in Panthers franchise history in 2012 we have yet another dual threat quarterback winning the offensive Rookie of the Year award and Robert Griffin thei third RG3 was an absolutely electrifying player out of Baylor winning the Heisman Trophy in his senior season in 2011 unlike the two previously mentioned quarterbacks Griffin was selected with the second overall pick by theing Redskins who traded major assets to acquire him he went on to have an incredible rookie season for Washington going for over 4,000 allpurpose yards and 27 total touchdowns and even getting a pro bow nod due to his early success the Redskins went 10- six which was good enough to win the NFC West and clinch a home playoff game but what nobody knew though is that this one game would have major implications for the rest of his career you see RG3 had sprained his ankle just a few weeks prior and was forced to sit out the last two Reg seasons of the game in order to rehab the injury while head coach Mike Shanahan instructed Griffin to take the field in Washington's playoff game he had actually never been medically cleared by the training staff and tragically in that game RG3 suffered a major injury that tore both his ACL and LCL ligaments in his right knee the same knee that he was rehabbing from a previous injury Washington would go on to lose the game and though Griffin returned as the starter in 2013 the Redskins struggled mightily and it became clear that RG3 no longer has the athleticism that made him such a special player eventually Robert Griffin was replaced by his teammate from the same draft class Kurt Cousins and never saw much playing time for the remainder of his career with the Cleveland Browns and Baltimore Ravens now unlike in previous years that we've already mentioned in 2013 the offensive Rookie of the Year actually wasn't a quarterback instead the highlighted first year player was Packers running back Eddie Lacy Lacy had a solid rookie season in Green Bay rushing for over 1,000 yards and 11 touchdowns with Aaron Rogers at the helm but it wasn't anything particularly special if I have to really say it one of the main reasons why Lacy was able to win this award is because the 2013 NFL draft class was one of the worst quarterback classes of all time consisting of EJ Manuel Gino Smith Mike Glennon and Matt Barkley as some of the top prospects and I mean all in all Lacy really didn't pan out either after struggling with weight issues had an incredibly short career he did have one more 1,000 yard season in his sophomore year but after that completely fell off and had only played 5 years in the league and before you click off because this is a little bit of an adre right now you might want to stay tuned because this let's get back into the video 2014 though was a completely different story and with the offensive Rookie of the Year award going to Odell Beckham a star was born Odell immediately burst onto the scene in the NFL with over, 1300 yards and 12 touchdowns as Eli Innings go-to receiver in his rookie season Beckham also became a pop culture icon for his inhumane one-handed catch against the Cowboys in prime time obj was selected for the 2015 Madden cover and continued his dominance one-upping his rookie campaign with 1,450 yards and 13 touchdowns through just three years Beckham was on a Hall of Fame Pace being selected to three Pro bowls and two First Team all Pros while accumulating almost 3500 yards but as quickly as Odell Rose to start him he Fell From Grace his 2017 season ended after just five games due to an injury and in 2018 he rebounded to produce a 1,000 year at season but wasn't quite the player he was before and to everybody's surprise before the 2019 season Beckham was involved in a blockbuster trade that shipped him to the Cleveland Browns pairing him with his friend and former LSU teammate Jarvis Landry his first year in Cleveland was somewhat successful as he clocked in another 1,000 yard year but injuries and disagreements with Baker Mayfield caused Beckham to be shipped out of Cleveland in the middle of the 2021 season and while he was on the Rams he did have some moments here and there but he truly didn't show how good he was until the postseason came around that season he honestly never had any significant postseason success before with the Giants and Browns but the Rams were a super team that was going all in on a championship as the performer he is Odell turned up the most when the lights were the brightest going for 113 yards in the NFC Championship Game followed by two crucial catches for 52 yards and a touchdown in the first half of the super bow unfortunately Beckham ended up tearing his ACL on his final reception with the Rams but he helped Propel LA to a Super Bowl win and got his first and only championship ring and now with the dolphins on a one-year contract he's hoping to maybe relive some of that magic and bring some speed to that Miami team that's already so fast at the wide receiver position and while obj never turned into the hall of fame wide receiver everyone once thought he would be he still has had an incredibly successful career and will be remembered as an all-time great NFL player and person personality now 2015 marked the third consecutive year where the top offensive rookie was not a quarterback with Rams running back Todd Gurley winning the award unfortunately though Gurley is another example of how just such a good player can just completely disappear off the face of the Earth with a couple of Bad seasons Todd gurley's rookie season was great and even though he missed some time he was voted the Rookie of the Year in the second Team all pro running back 2017 though is really the year that I remember the most for Todd Gurley as Not only was he a great Runner but a great wide receiver out of the back field too he tallied over 2,000 allpurpose yards and 19 touchdowns that year earning offensive player of the year and coming in second in MVP voting Todd Gurley followed up his offensive player of the year season with another great year in 2018 with 1,700 total yards and 21 touchdowns cementing him as one of the most electric players in football and with the success of Gurley Jared gof and the Rams also saw huge success even reaching the Super Bowl in 2018 and falling just short against the New England Patriots 2019 though was the beginning of the end for Todd Gurley who still put up solid numbers having 1,000 yards and 14 touchdowns but nothing like his previous two seasons and in an unprecedented turn of events 2020 would be his final year who after signing with the Atlanta Falcons only gained 800 yards and quietly disappeared to never be seen on the field again also not mentioning that he did have this terrible play that caused them to lose the game that didn't make his case much stronger the give is to Gurley Gurley through the middle they're going to let him score and he went in the Lions gave it to him with a minute four to go and that's a big mistake by Todd Gurley later news would come out about an issue with arthritis that even extended to before his professional career but the way that Gurley Rose to being the NFL's top playmaker and then cease to exist is still something that the NFL has never really seen before or since in 2016 the Rookie of the Year award went back to a quarterback but this time it wasn't a first round selection instead fourth round quarterback Dak Prescott who wasn't even slated to be the backup much less to take on a starting role won the award that year injuries to both Tony Romo and Kell Moore before the start of the Season allowed Dak to somehow become the week one starter and immediately he became an unexpected star in his rookie season Prescott threw for over 3600 yards in an incredibly impressive 29 to8 touchdown to turnover ratio leading the Cowboys to a 13 and3 record Dak ultimately replaced Romo and has been if you want to say a great quarterback for Dallas over the past eight seasons consistently throwing for over 4,000 yards and having great regular season success that's the only problem though is he has really great regular seasons and then completely forgets how to play football or do anything in the postseason actually like I mean in his most recent playoff game against the Green Bay Packers Dak completely crumbled with multiple turnovers in the first half allowing Jordan love and the Packers to get a 27 to Zer lead and I mean like if you even want to call it somewhat of a comeback it was simply too little to too late when they even remembered how to play football that game and it has been a key story of almost all of Prescott's playoff appearances he now enters the last year of his contract with Jerry Jones and the Cowboys and will be an unrestricted free agent in 2025 like it's hard to say at this point whether Dak will get another deal done with Dallas but it's pretty difficult to imagine him not getting another massive contract from any one of the quarterback needy teams when the time comes in 2017 another running back won the award with Saints running back Alvin Kamar taking it home Kamara very much like Gurley has been a great two-way back operating even better as a receiver than a traditional Ball Carrier at points in his rookie season he logged over 1500 yards with 800 of those coming in the air plus 13 touchdowns kamaro was extremely consistent over the first 5 years of his career going for over, 1300 yards and being selected to a Pro Bowl in each like I mean in terms of year in and yearout production and Longevity he was one of the best players of the decade to be selected for the offensive Rookie of the Year and while he isn't likely on Pace to make the Hall of Fame he has truly been a great player for my favorite team the New Orleans Saints and one of my favorite moments of watching him play in just one of his massive highs throughout his career has been when he had a record setting six touchdown game on Christmas Day and has become a staple among fantasy rosters because of performances like that and I mean yes his production has decreased over the past two years but I mean the dude is still a staple on the Saints roster and I mean as crazy as it sounds he's pretty much like the remaining or like final piece that we have left from like those Breeze Seasons that if you want to call this a rebuild is going on so it's kind of sad to say that we're rebuilding but yeah I mean he's like the only player that's still on that team from those years ago when Breeze was playing contract issues caused Kamar to walk out of mandatory mini camp workouts despite there being two years technically remaining on his deal to regardless though Alvin Kamar has had a great career so far even securing two all prds and some offensive player of the year votes in 2020 but the future is certainly in doubt with him following the 2018 season New York Giants running back saquan Barkley earned the award after one of the best rookie running back seasons ever even though the Giants and an aging Eli Manning only managed to win five games on the year saquin had a historic campaign amassing for over 2,000 yards and 15 touchdowns while it became immediately evident that saquon was one of the most talented players in the game the question then became can he stay healthy he had another great year in his sophomore here despite missing some time posting 1500 yard but year three was where it all changed in just his second game of the 2020 season Barkley tore his ACL ending his year and sadly 20121 was more of the same even though saquin was only able to suit up for 13 games he clearly wasn't healthy and statistically it showed with just 800 yards on the year but in The Following season in 2022 Barkley rose from the dead and proved that he was still one of the best players in the NFL period Point Blank going for over 1,600 yard and functioning as the engine for the Giants offense and I mean while he was was healthy last season in 2023 there was really no Supporting Cast around him at all which did slightly derail him from having really any crazy production last year now with the change of scenery the sky is the limit for sequan in Philadelphia and it will be incredibly interesting to see how he performs on a good offense for the first time in his career last but not least we have Kyler Murray who won the offensive Rookie of the Year award for his efforts in 2019 Murray was the clear best Prospect at quarterback for the Cardinals in the 2019 draft as they quickly pivoted from Josh Rosen to reset the franchise Murray's career in Arizona has been an interesting one because it's clear how talented he truly is when you watch him on the field but his play hasn't really resulted in wins and as we've heard it a million times the NFL is a business based on results and I mean it's hard to say or even really tell how good Kyler is because he hasn't even been able to really stay healthy these past two seasons in his lone career postseason game Murray threw zero touchdowns and two interceptions and a beat down against the Future Super Bowl Champion Rams in 2021 and while the jury is out on Murray he has all of the potential in the world but none of that matters if he can't stay on the field so I mean who knows maybe a change of scenery would actually help rejuvenate his career as well but I want to know what you guys think let me know down in the comments section below who should we do next or what award should we do next maybe we do MVP of like who should have won it or anything like that also let me know in the comment section below who is your favorite player on this list and really what do you think we can see from them this year if they're still playing and as always I will catch you guys in the next one
