what's next for the Legend of Zelda it's hard to think that Nintendo could create a game that's better than [Music] but hey I thought the same thing with breath of the wild so it's clear anything's possible with the Zelda team apparently so you'd think after tears of the Kingdom there's no way they could do any better right what could they possibly do next you see every Zelda game comes with a new thing be it a new world new power-ups or a new method of control like motion controls these changes are going to give us the hidden key to finding out what's to come next the first big change to the Zelda formula was in 1998 where they shook up the series and brought it into an entirely new dimension the Zelda series had been going on for quite a while at this point and its formula started to feel a bit weak each new entry just felt like a new adventure where you sold puzzles and defeat the bad guy from top down except this one we don't talk about this one what Nintendo needed was something new something fresh something so well made that it would set the stage for the future of gaming and this came in the form of Zelda CD Ocarina of Time this game was so good people still think it was the best game of all time getting a score of 99 on Metacritic game developers were struggling with how to make a 3D game at the time and then Ocarina of Time came along and perfected it first try like it was nothing how did they do this the Zelda team said it's not hard you just have to create a revolutionary targeting system that lets you instantly lock onto enemies with the push of a button allowing the player to constantly be looking at where they're swinging their sword easy there isn't one specific thing that this game did to make it so great it was the culmination of many things like nice visuals a compelling story and just being incredibly well polished as a whole mostly one thing that was really important though was how zeldery it felt you could probably go back a couple years and people would have thought that Zelda games were fine already as they were but after Ocarina of Time it was clear that Zelda needed to be like this going forwards this game along with breath of the wild share a common trait that they make the Zelda franchise become more realized rather than just throwing the franchise into a new genre to follow Trends it's like if this was the Zelda franchise before Ocarina of Time and this was it after with this game being so revolutionary it left people wondering how do they Top This which is basically the position we're in right now and what did they do back then the thing is Majora's musk mostly kept with the same idea as Ocarina of Time having a similar structure and reusing assets but with a new story tears of the Kingdom on the other hand made breath of the wild look like a proof of concept if breath of the wild broke the conventions of open World Games tears of the Kingdom broke the conventions of sequels so it's not very fair to compare it to Majora's Mask after the N64 the Zelda team started bringing out more 3D games that captured the magic of Ocarina but added to the franchise in their own ways 2002 Wind Waker releases with an incredible cartoon art style thanks to new cell shading technology 2006 Twilight Princess releases and shows that the game is still for Big Boys 2011 Skyward Sword comes out which Bridges the gap between the sky and the surface Paving the way for future games to come sometimes the new additions can be controversial though like motion controls as you can see each new Zelda game brings something important to the table of course each of these small jumps doesn't directly lead to something like breath of the wild but if you smush them all together it's the icing on the cake to make the next thing that much better so going off this logic it makes sense for us to use this ideology going forwards it's safe to say that the next Zelda game will be at least as vast and expansive as tears of the kingdom and in theory it should somehow bring even more to the table considering we got two convention breaking games in a row I feel like the main purpose of the next one will be to just do something different while still having this new formula but there's a problem how long is this going to take breath of the wild took five years to make and so did tears of the Kingdom considering that game already had the main World mechanics engine and art style made from the previous game and it still took half a decade to make it's hard to think that Nintendo could make a game that ambitious in the same amount of time right except maybe they can you see tears of the kingdom was delayed for a whole year just so they could polish it and make it run anything above 2fps Jesus Christ also Nintendo just bought new land for development headquarters and they could use this to expand their team it makes perfect sense to expand the size of the Zelda team after the success of their recent games so what would this game look like hyrule's had his fun in the last couple games but now it's time for something new whether it be an entirely new land or a different version of Hyrule all the games have dabbled in different times and places before like coherent Island and termina the idea of this is that you play in a zeldery land that feels like what you're used to but not being confined to the usual big castle big volcano and big desert which stops the franchise from going stale another thing Nintendo likes to do is use Hyrule but give it a bit of a Twist this can range from just a dark version of Hyrule to completely flooding the kingdom really the possibilities are endless my best guess is that it's going to be some new land that we haven't seen before we've seen oceans underground places in the sky unless they want to put Link in space it's gonna have to be confined to these places now that I mention it I do remember seeing UFOs in breath of the wild concept art as for what the land will be this is where things get pretty weird Terraria is one of the games of all time dare I say it what I find so special about it is the crazy diversity of lands that there are in the game from weird pixie lands to the Crimson to literally hell itself put something like these in his own other game and I think it would work quite well or put Link in space you'll move Nintendo the style of the game would also be different but I don't expect it to go back to the typical Elfman and green cap costume for link after breath of the wild and tears of the kingdom it makes that style feel like the old link and keeping with a similar hatless version of link with the option to unlock different clothing over time seems like the best option I wonder how link will look in a different style chances are the legend of zegeant will release on the next console which will be more powerful this means that there's a lot more Headroom with what can be made and there's no doubt that the visuals will be incredible I hope they stick with the self-shading style though I think it looks quite cool so that's it right we've solved it of course not there's something missing something no game speculation could ever solve we need to think outside of the box here what if the next thing we see for Zelda isn't even a game what if they made a movie [Music] recently there's been rumors that Universal and Nintendo struck a deal for a Zelda movie it might be done with illumination but I hope this isn't true as it puts the film at risk of looking stupid imagine this in the style of this it just wouldn't work but that's where Nintendo comes in and you know how much they love to protect their property with this in mind I wouldn't be surprised if the film followed a similar formula to the Mario movie but in the Zelda style a classic Zelda Adventure that's great but plays it fairly safe as it's the first entry into the film Universe the Mario movie reflects Mario games really well fun for all ages fast-paced action and barely any story you wouldn't play a Mario game for the story Zelda is where Nintendo truly focuses on producing more nuanced masterpieces designed for people who aren't your average guy who doesn't know where their a button is yeah I'm a gamer it's right there in that sense I can see this film being really focused on quality and a bit more story while looking very Artful with his visuals based on common sense it'd probably go along the lines of this Village boy link finds himself having to go on an adventure and eventually becomes the hero of time he progresses as the film goes on like in the games finding new things to Aid him on his adventure and leading to an awesome scene where he finds the master sword imagine the music Zelda games are already very cinematic so it would fit right into the movie format pair that with its incredible music and you've already got an immediate classic I can definitely see Nintendo doing this before a new game the future of Zelda looks promising and it's only up from here the Legend of Zelda series has proven time and time again that it's the innovation of their games that makes them so awe-inspiring not only that but the time effort and Care put into every detail of these games will make them forever great all we can do is appreciate the games that we have right now and trust that the Zelda team will create something amazing in the future whether it be a game or quite possibly a movie as always thanks for watching And subscribe for more click here to find out how accurately I predicted tears of the Kingdom
