for uh just life tonight i want to thank him for life and that more abundantly this is bishop edgar l band and this is second ebeneezer detroit ebenezer everywhere we are excited delighted tonight for our bible study i'm thankful to the good lord for uh sparing our lives and allowing us the strength and the health uh to be here tonight and of course to share with you the word of the lord well uh i want you to know this is a great time for you to call a neighbor or a friend text somebody get your phone text somebody that you know a loved one a neighbor a friend uh whoever it may be you get them about you establishing a relationship with god a personal relationship a relationship that's personal but not pride because you ought to be able to let the world know be a witness not only with your wake-up call really to those of you who are out there who have um just been sort of meandering in between uh the world and the church the world and your faith um uh the secularism of our society and really the substratum of the foundation of your faith i've never seen a time where it appears as if so many people's faith uh uh uh is fading now and eroding uh they've become we've become a little bit too comfortable uh in our faith walk our faith walk has us now uh in a place where we're just a little bit too comfortable we're too comfortable with worldly things and then we try to mix faith and then we try to uh uh claim faith and yet we are in a struggle and a challenge uh with worldly things as well listen you've got to make a decision about god and it's time for you to heed the wake-up call that god is giving to us as believers in him now you know for many of us we are very um attuned to god's hand to the hand of god we want god to put in our hand what's in his hand and there's nothing wrong with that we are a people that god uh uh wants to make sure uh that uh we are living the abundant life uh but understand that your christian faith is not just about abundance it's not just about blessings it's not just about favor it's not just about increase your christian faith also requires a fight i mean we're in a war uh ephesians 6 lets us know that we wrestle not against flesh and blood but against powers and and principalities and rulers of darkness of this world uh uh we are admonished in ephesians 6 to put on the whole armor of god we might be able to withstand the wiles or the strategies or the stratagems of the devil now don't think that because you call jesus his name that uh all of a sudden uh you are fully protected from any attack of the enemy by the way if you walk with god if you trust god if you profess faith in god if you seek to live for god if you serve god if you trust god understand you become a real target for the enemy the the the the enemy comes in uh like a flood and wants to subject you to his clutches when you profess that faith you've got to you've got to understand that just saying it with your mouth is not enough we've got to wake up to the fact that we just can't say it with our mouths we've got to believe it in our hearts if we confess with our mouths the lord jesus but we've got to believe in our hearts and listen whatever you believe is how you are to behave we need to learn how to behave as we believe or else will believe what we behave what are you saying i'm saying that we must guide our behavior by our beliefs in god and remember those are not beliefs that we came up with those are not your personal feelings god never told you to follow him with your personal feelings we walk by faith not feelings and not by sight and my faith has to be built on a solid foundation which is really the word of god now anything that you're believing about god that does not have its foundation in the scripture and in the word of god is an erroneous belief and if you're just following what you think or what you want to be right then know you're not following what god really has for you know that you're not following the word of god the word of truth this infallible word that that that god has placed here is our instruction now you need to understand that in the context of understanding that in this culture and this world in which we live right now there is a sense of urgency there is a time is now imperative upon the believers of the lord of the lord jesus christ why throughout the world what we're seeing is is that and understand as a believer you're not connected just to your church you're connected to the world you're connected to believers everywhere you you you're not just connected the the army of the lord is not just your church it's not just your prayer call it's not just your ministry right the army of the lord is vast it's worldwide you know i would say to anyone especially all the deep folks out there you need to do some traveling you need to go to some foreign countries i'm not talking about you know uh somewhere where you can find a beach and all that kind of stuff i'm not talking about where you take a vacation i'm talking about you need to go to some places where it's not necessarily vacation time where you're not necessarily staying in a resort you need to go to some countries where you can truly observe and have a life-changing experience um trying to connect and understand your connection to other believers because other believers throughout the world are all the body of christ many of us are too parochial our idea of christianity is just what we've seen in in america or churches on east side or the churches on the west side or the you know or my home church in mississippi or whatever it's just what you see you're looking on uh some social media site that's that's bashing churches and bashing church leadership and uh you're deriving your idea of your faith uh with regard to that so that's why you've eroded and and and and regressed and faded in in your commitment to god i'm telling you tonight the time is now this is a wake-up call to all of you who may have taken a step or two back from your faith in the middle of so many different kinds of circumstances coming your way so many different kinds of things happening in your life so many different kinds of things happening in the world there is accelerated change in our culture it's happening simply because technology is moving us at a break next speed it is putting us in a place where uh life is changing for us daily literally daily um covet has come the covet season has come last 19 20 months has come to really show us that that acceleration of technology is now super accelerating so much so that the future of work has been disrupted how people go back how they go back to school how they go back to their so-called normal activities i believe that normal is behind us and next is now and that's why i'm saying that the time is now the time is now this is the wake up call god has called us for such a time as this and it's important for us to respond to what god is saying i want to bring a scripture to you that i want to deal with on tonight it's a part of the record of paul's letter or his epistle to the romans in the new testament romans chapter 13. romans chapter 13 in the new testament i want you to get a a good idea of uh of this text because i really want you to see uh here how god uh in his word prepares us for such a thing by the way can i ask you how much time have you wasted in your life what have you put off for tomorrow instead of doing it today you know that's just human nature i'm gonna clean that closet next week that was a year ago and i'm gonna clean that garage out uh next week that was a year ago i'm gonna do this i'm gonna do that i'm gonna do this i'm gonna do that how much time do we waste and how much time do we waste in the context of our faith the promises of god all of them in him are yea and amen in other words yea meaning affirmative a man meaning so be it so it is right so how much time do we waste when it comes time for us to access the promises of god the promises of relationship with him drawing closer to him being a part of what god has in store for us let's go to romans chapter 13. i want to really kind of kind of read it in in two different versions i want to read it in the king james version i want to start at verse 11. romans 13 verse 11. here's what it says and that knowing the time that now it is high time to awake out of sleep for now is our salvation nearer than when we believe the night is far spent the day is at hand let us therefore cast off the works of darkness and let us put on the armor of light let us walk honestly as in the day not in rioting or drunkenness or in chambering or wantonness not in strife and envying but put ye on the lord jesus christ and make not provisions for the flesh to fulfill the lusts thereof i'm going to read it in the new living translation which gives it a bit more amplification for uh your understanding and consideration this is all the more urgent for you to know how late it is time is running out that's verse 11. wake up for our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed the night is almost gone verse 12 the day of salvation will soon be here so remove your dark deeds like dirty clothes and put on the shining armor of right living because we belong to the day we must live decent lives for all to see don't participate in the darkness of wild parties and drunkenness or in sexual promiscuity and immoral living or in quarreling and jealousy instead clothe yourself with the presence of the lord jesus christ and don't let yourself think about ways to indulge in your evil desires sounds like an urgent wake-up call that we receive in god's word for us to be in a position to move ourselves into a greater place of consciousness with god i i think it's so important brothers and sisters for us to recognize to understand and to know that god has a sense of urgency upon your life and mind that we might be representative of the faith that we profess that that we're not hypocritical about that we're growing in grace now there's not anything in this scripture that talks about sinless perfection because sinless perfection is is is not what god is requiring of us but i do see here where it says listen you ought to put on the shining armor of right living can i ask you how are you living it's a good question it's a fair question and a question a fair question not for me to receive the answer but for me to challenge you with the question so that you know that far beyond me asking the question should be your own inquiry internally with yourself see this is what i think people don't do very much these days we so we're so busy looking at what other folk are doing how they're portraying themselves we've got our eyes on other people all the time every day we're looking at other social media has given us the opportunity to just peek in on everybody's life because everybody's putting everything out there they're letting you know stuff that we used to just used to be personal used to be private now now now people don't consult god i i've seen people on social media asking folk to answer uh their their issues well what do i do about this well what about this in my relationship and what about that and what about my this is my personal business and we're getting our answers from people we don't even know that we don't even trust we're just getting input from everybody and we're finding brothers and sisters that we're drifting away from our relationship with god god says call unto me and i will show you great and mighty things that you know not of come unto me all ye that labor and a heavy laden and i will give you rest take my yoke upon you and learn of me for my yoke is easy my burdens are light god keeps telling us to come to him let not your heart be troubled you believe in god leave also in me though your sins be a scarlet i'll wash them and wipe wash them whiter than snow come unto me all you that labor in a heavy now i'll give you a rest take my yoke upon you and learn of me but my yoke is easy my burdens are light god keeps telling us get closer to me wake up get close to god wake up start getting your answers from him in his word wake up and start trusting in the lord with all your heart and leaning not to your own understanding but in all of your ways acknowledge him because he will direct your path wake up and understand that god has you on a trajectory of destiny and one day you got to meet him one day you got to see him for yourself one day you've got to give an account of your stewardship one day you've got to give an account of the time that you've wasted wake up you ought to be trying to get everybody you know to be a child of god your your witness ought to be so attractive that others are inquisitive about what happened in your life that makes you so much better what is your testimony tonight wake up this is a wake-up call to all of you tonight to understand and to know that god has great and mighty things in store for you but you've got to make your impact in this world in this world jesus said you will have tribulation but be of good cheer i have overcome the world and if i have jesus says overcome the world then guess what you two are an overcomer wake up well now let's go into this scripture let's let's let's take a look let's zoom in on what the word of god says knowing the time see are we really familiar with the times that we're living in why are we just experiencing them are do we actually know that the times we're living in are literally end times are we really aware that jesus is coming back oh my goodness are we really aware that that that we have to give an account of our stewardship do we know what time it is that that's why you got to be careful in your relationships your associations with people you know you've got to distance yourself from the people that bring out the person that you no longer want to be did you hear what i'm saying you you you you've got to be able to to to start making some demarcation lines in your life with with with people that that that are not following in the same path and what i'm saying i'm not talking about not being friendly i'm not talking someone might be your loved ones i'm not talking about disassociating or detaching yourself uh from certain people though there may be people that you might need to do that with i'm talking about you understanding that you're an influence in their life and you're not a participant people ought to know that when you're following god that you can be very nice and very kind very gracious very friendly very very open but your principles are your principles your convictions are your convictions what you think what you believe who you know you are in christ is who you know you are in christ and you're not ashamed you're not ashamed of yourself you're not ashamed of what you believe you're not ashamed of your convictions you're not ashamed that you walk with god you're not ashamed that you're a follower of jesus christ you're not ashamed of of of of of the fact that that that uh that you are an adherent to the word of god you you you're not you're not oblivious to that and no one should mistake you and i i know i'm messing with you i'm messing with some of you but but you can't do anything and your integrity remain intact you can't even wear everything and your integrity be intact you cannot say everything and your integrity be intact you cannot present yourself any kind of way and your integrity be intact your integrity is what draws others to christ it is also what god requires of us to be a representative of him what you look like being on the detroit lions and you don't have the uniform on you don't look like uh one of the lions you don't act like you ain't on the right side of the line of scrimmage with the team you you on the other side of the line what do you look like if you're on the pistons and and and but you're wearing the colors the lakers colors you or or or you you you got shorts that are pistons and you got a jersey that's lakers how confusing is that and how unfortunate is that that people will see you and become confused by who and what you are now these days they don't get confused if you present a confusing picture of yourself you are automatically written off uh-huh they go another one right now is the time knowing the time he says watch this that now it is high time what is a high time that means there's a sense of urgency that means that this is a time of priority it's high time in other words it's past time it's been dying right knowing the time that it is now high time high priority to awake up out of sleep now i know that you're not thinking that paul is writing to romans telling them to get up out of the bed no way i know that you're not mistaking this to think that when he says it's time to wake up out of sleep that he's he's talking about you know some beautyrest uh mattress that you're laying on with some beautiful pillow uh and uh you're in the midst of of gracious slumber no no no no no knowing the time perceiving where we are in the world perceiving where we are in your community you don't have to go very far perhaps all you have to do is stand on your porch or look out of your window and you get a glimpse of the times that we're in now understand this we are the saints of god the believers of god we are the ones who are supposed to be the salt of the earth now listen here the meat does not tenderize or flavor itself the salt has to go to the meat the meat doesn't go to the salt right we are the salt of the earth but if the salt has lost its savor the bible says where with then shall it be salt in other words what good is it it's no good other than the bible says to be trodden under the foot of men in other words to be just stepped on and stamped out what good are we if we have no flavor what good is the salt if the salt cannot flavor what it is placed in what good are we if we're sleep and not effectuating the culture that we're living in we've been called to be salt in the earth are you hearing me that wherever the enterprise of the earth may be we're called to be salt there are you hearing what i'm saying knowing the time that it is now high time to a wake up out of sleep you know it's time for us to wake up out of sleep as a as a people the thing that always bothers me about us as a people is we don't control what we consume we we have we have we spend our money on industries that we could have ourselves been in charge of and charted an economic destiny for our people we let colonel sanders come along and take fried chicken from us nobody can fry chicken like we can right and uh and really make it a famous staple and so there are kentucky fried chickens all over the kfc's whatever all across the world fried chicken um you know our obsession as a people with uh the hair industry i'm trying to say it graciously you know the obsession that we have with it but it's something we don't control we can we're consumers but we're not benefactors other than trying to look good we're not benefactors we're just consumers so we we don't have the economic wherewithal we have enough to to buy the stuff and to continue buying and to continue doing but we don't have enough to control what we consume it's hard time that we as a people wake up out of sleep we spend a lot of time um with our own inhumanity toward one another it disturbs me that that crime is highest in our communities i know you're gonna come after me but it's highest in our communities huh and we are the ones killing one another day by day by day by day by day newscast by newscast by newscast we're doing that every day don't you think it's hard time for us to come up out of sleep our families are deteriorating our families are fading away we we used to we didn't have any money we had strong families we're losing the the the senior leadership of our families and so what's happening is is that we don't see new leaders emerging in our family structures and so families are divided families are put aside it's high time that we come up out of sleep we've allowed ourselves to become spiritually weak so when carnal people and worldly people and uh look at us they see no strength they see all of the same weakness they they they they see us praying and praying and praying and praying but they don't see any difference in our behavior then they do theirs and some of them look at us and say yeah i'm stronger than that and i don't you know hey you know i believe in god but you know i'm not i'm not serving him i'm not trusting him i'm not i'm not you know going at it like you're going at it i'm not following god as i should it's high time that the church come up out of sleep and that we become what we say we believe see we started out in church with belong instead of believe we believe and then we become we belong and then we become those are three stages of belief we believe and then we belong god connects us to a body of believers and then we become it's all about life transformation it's high time it's a high priority there's a sense of urgency on your life and mind to grow to become what god would have us be let's look at this scripture now is our salvation nearer than we when we believe in other words time is running out look here the night is far spent the day is at hand in other words time is running out i think that's what the uh the new uh living translation says the night is almost gone the day of salvation will soon be here it says remove your dark deeds like dirty clothes wow in other words let us cast off the works of darkness and let us put on the armor of light put that shining armor of light around you you see there ought to be something there ought to be an aura there ought to be um uh a vibe that's the new word there ought to be a vibe when people run into you and you're a believer in the lord jesus christ it's time for you to be in a position that you're so woke that that that your light is shining that other people may see and that they may see your good works and glorify your father which is in heaven not that they might see you but that they might see the god in you many of us now just want to draw attention to ourselves if we just get people to see us if we just let people know how beautiful we are if we can just primp and and and pose enough so that people can see how cute we are then everything's good we feel good about ourselves because i'm cute i'm fly i'm handsome i'm this that and the other the bible says it's got to be deeper than that your light has to shine not for you but for god oh we used to saying his kids this little light of mine i'm gonna let it shine well you know what shouldn't be so little of a light now your your light shouldn't be so little now your your your there ought to be plenty of light ought to be uh uh bushel baskets of light that you're producing now it ought to be barns full of light there ought to be a factory almost of light that that you're producing it's not a little light anymore but you still decided to let it shine and to let it shine for jesus why it's wake up time why god has issued a wake-up call why it's time to wake up shake yourself shake some things loose on you and tell yourself with a great deal of transparency it's time for me to wake up i can no longer be satisfied with mediocre christianity and mediocre faith i've got to have something greater more substantial in my life because let me tell you something brothers and sisters the challenges of life are not getting less they're getting more they are not getting weaker they're getting more intense and i promise you this as you get older you will face some things that you never thought you'd face before somebody out there is listening to me and you know that you are now and have been facing some things that you never thought you'd have to face but thanks be unto god he gives us the victory through our lord jesus christ because greater is he that is in us than he that is in the world and what god has for you it is for you trust him now and wake up wake up don't let it be said too late the time is running out the time is short the time is at hand cast off the works of darkness new translation says the new living translation says said take off darkness like you take off dirty clothes verse 13. now let's walk honestly let's walk honestly as in the day why because we put on the arm of light we've cast off the darkness we've ripped it off of us like dirty clothes we now have the shining armor of light upon us god's light the light for which others can see god in us amen let's walk honestly as in the day not in rioting and drunkenness new living translation said not in wild parties and drunkenness not in chambering and wanting this new living translation says not in sexual promiscuity not not in displaying i'm trying to figure out how much flesh i can display i've just been and call me old school please forgive me i do not mean to offend anyone but i see people out in public these days looking an absolute mess yeah i said it no regard for their for for how they look how they present themselves and i'm not just talking about unbelievers i'm talking about so-called saints at the grocery store you know at walmart or target of myers or wherever at the concert well i mean where whatever happened to dignity don't you think that it's time to wake up how are people going see we got this thing now about it doesn't matter what i do don't matter what i say don't matter how i act don't matter what i indulge in oh yeah i'm still a christian yeah i still love god oh yeah i'm still yeah i do that and i'm still oh yeah that's really not what god says he says we've taken darkness away and we've replaced it literally with a shining armor of light and he says let's be honest about ourselves let's let's be you want to be totally transparent let's be transparent and let's admit let's be honest with ourselves that when we engage in this type of activity that's mentioned here in romans chapter 13 verse 13 we know we ain't representing god not in that moment we aren't right here's the conclusion verse 14 put on the lord jesus christ he seems to suggest in this passage that the things we take off and they're things we put on the things we take off the things we put on we don't wear old socks with new shoes we don't mix up what we put on with what we need to take off we we find ourselves you know the bible says you don't put new wine in old wine skins you can't do it it's not going to fit there's going to be contraction the skin is going to burst because the old wine skin is not fluid it's not flexible the new wine in it is going to stretch it to the point of explosion we can't do that we can't mix it up like that we've got to be honest with ourselves and honest with god put on the lord jesus christ i said put on the lord jesus christ it's time to grow can i can i can i just encourage you it's time to grow say it again it's time to grow when i was a child i spake as a child i understood as a child i talked as a child but when i became a man i put away childish things it's time to wake up it's time to grow it's time to flourish it's time to receive all that god has for you it's time for you to move yourself into a higher sense a priority knowing the time it is now high time for you to make a change in your life can i encourage someone out there now is the accepted time today is the day of salvation if you don't know jesus open up your heart to him right now and say lord jesus come into my heart change me make me as you would have me to be i'm tired of living the life i'm living i'm missing something in my life and i know that what i'm missing is your grace and your mercy and your power in my life i know that some things in my life are not working as they should because i'm not representative of who i s you you are and who i say i am strengthen me cleanse me anoint me appoint me fix me hold me in your hand never let me go and never let me let go of your hand help me to take off what needs to be taken off and to put on what needs to be put on helped me to put on the lord jesus christ help me to put on the spirit of christ help me to put on the love of christ help me to put on the grace of christ help me to put on the spirit of christ that it might dwell in me that others might see my good works as the light the shining armor of light shines through me it's time for that it's time i've wasted too much time it's time i've let too much time pass it's time i've just been doing the same thing over and over and over again expecting another result but it ain't gonna happen now is the time now is the call upon my life now it's the opportunity that i have to be what you have me to be to allow your spirit to permeate me to let the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be acceptable in your sight to let my actions be acceptable to let how i present myself to the world be acceptable for me to never lose my sense of respect for myself and others for me never to lose my sense of dignity for myself and for others and to lift up and put on the lord jesus christ oh when you put him on when you put on christ he says you don't make provisions for your flesh there romans 8 and 1 there is now therefore no condemnation to them that walk after not after the flesh but after the spirit of god it's high time it's your time it's the right time for you to make a change in your life let's pray father i thank you for this time that i've had to share the word of the lord with your people i pray that you would shake somebody that i pray that you would arrest someone's attention i i pray that you would prick somebody's heart right now that they might understand this scripture and this lesson i pray o god that you would transform somebody's life that they might see you more clearly love you more dearly follow you more nearly day by day bless us now as we grow glow and go for jesus christ help us to put on cast away the darkness to put on the shining armor of light and we'll trust you ever more in jesus name amen well we've had a great class tonight i pray that you've been blessed oh my god have you been blessed i hope that you have on tonight it's time it's high time this is a wake-up call god bless you listen if you've heard the word tonight and your heart has been moved and changed you've accepted the lord jesus christ as your savior i want you to understand that jesus christ in your life makes the difference and if you know that he makes the
