We Stayed In A Japanese Capsule Hotel

[Music] hello ed both another video we are back again here we are it's been a little while we've been on ice yeah still might sort of be on ice yeah but we are making this video yes and this is actually sort of like what was the next video last time we were making videos yeah absolutely like chronologically this video comes next so you're not skipping a beat what's our last video on the channel like flamin hot cheeto ice cream yes was it mustard cake it was one of those - one of those - but we are here and we are gonna be talking about Japanese capsule hotels yes now to clarify we are not currently in Japan no we filmed this video about ten months ago when we were in Japan last time right but we recently went through the footage and watched it and enjoyed it enough that we thought that we should still make this video and share with you guys our experience going to a capsule hotel in Tokyo we also wanted to post this video before we go back to Japan in May yeah we didn't want it to get lapped no yeah otherwise it would never get made so basically when we went to Japan we were really eager to stay a night in a capsule hotel which is essentially a hotel made up of small sleeping pods that are basically like a mattress and a few essential things inside that you sort of like close yourself into and then sleep the night for what our friends in Tokyo rinrin and Amanda told us they're kind of like places where you go to crash if you like you missed your flight and you have to stay an extra night or like if you're too drunk to go home yes and I think traditionally it was sort of a thing that businessmen did kind of like work hard play hard crash hard in a capsule and we've seen a fair amount of content about them like on YouTube on TV there's like a killer in music video when they go to a capsule hotel and they look really futuristic and interesting so we decided to go try one out and see how it really is so this is our night in a capsule hotel in Tokyo sometime in May 2018 we are not in Tokyo right now Wow that was not planned so we're staying in like a normal-size hotel room for the majority of our stay goodbye to our normal sized hotel room alright ready to sleep in a pod Thank You me I think we have to be ready go we had booked a night at the Bay Hotel in Ginza one capsule for each of us for approximately 35 bucks a night and the Ginza neighborhood is not that far from where we were staying in Akasaka so it didn't take us too long to get there so when we first walked up to our capsule hotel I will say that like it seemed sort of unassuming yeah it looked kind of just like a normal small hotel look you can get a free foot bath it's available until 11:00 p.m. that sounds pretty nice I was kind of surprised when we figured out that the thing that we thought was just a fountain was the foot bath yes but that's it that's the book bath I thought it was like a decorative pond oh yeah she was sick her feet in there this was like growing on the side of the street it was just so right when you entered and so out in the open it was surprising yeah it was really not what I look back but then we just headed inside to check in we were saving the foot bath for later oh yeah all right so we just checked it we've got our like locker numbers and room numbers and I'm upstairs and Tyler's on this water separated yes exactly no it's be on the same floor yeah because they separate it for like men on the third floor and then women on the fourth floor yes so I'm gonna go put my stuff in my locker and then we're gonna go see what's outside because it's only like seven yeah yeah we're not like quite ready to go to bed now so I went upstairs to like check out the women's floor and before you enter like the keycard only access like guest area there's a whole like corner of shoe lockers yeah because in the actual like guest area it's all shoeless right so I'm gonna take these off right here but a vain but a boom so I took my shoes off and stuck them in a locker I actually had some trouble with this let's go for - oh no that closes by itself we looked at the footage and like yours like - slammed on you and the same thing happened to me I'm like granite I was trying to vlog and you were trying to vlog but it like really snapped yeah it was unexpected I also noticed that like I was already wearing sandals when I got to these lockers which have the sandals you're supposed to like wear inside of the guest area I reached into like the used sandals bag out by the front and put those on because I thought that those were like the ones you're supposed to wear so when I got there I was like oh these are where the sandals are yeah those are yeah so I was wearing old sandals someone else is soon to be Pharaoh's wearing socks but that was like my first and like probably my main phone at the capsule hotel so after putting my shoes away I went into like the main guest area all right and then shall I pull oh and this is the locker situation when you first get in there they have like a long hallway of walkers like actual Walker right not just shoe lockers no and this is where you're supposed to put all of your stuff like your suitcases and your valuables because you don't have a room this is your room this is the thing that locks and in these lockers they give you like a little bag for overnight purposes yeah like a little goodie hospitality bag it's basically like a towel and then some scrubs sort of like pj situations so I guess I didn't need to bring pajamas but I did there they are hello repping that Disney World 2004 trip but right now I'm not yet going to bed so I shall put this back in there for now and close this guy back up and oh not forget my shoe key because I want those so we left our stuff for like the time being and then we met back up to head out and do some adventuring I do that very camera yeah you're the girls cabin I'm in the boys captain we're gonna like sneaking out together right now so actually in this part of town called Ginza which is like supposedly like pretty fancy dancy yeah I think this is like supposed to be like a sort of like expensive shopping area but we are in fact here in a luxurious area staying inside of a capsule hotel yes what cool get up we'll have to look that up okay so I think the toxic music video is actually supposed to be set in like futuristic Paris but I think I thought it was Ginza because of all of the like lights in the background no to be fair it looks very similar yeah regardless I think Ginza is pretty like cool and metropolitan looking there's an Abercrombie and Fitch we said this is a fancy area there's an Abercrombie and Fitch that's fancy am oh get out here we're gonna leave her in Tokyo so after walking around for a little bit we found like this cool-looking do as a place so we're at this gyoza restaurant in Ginza and they served giant dosa yes for scale this is my hand they were like hotdogs size gyozas yeah I was thinking like hot dog and bun like a corn dog but he owes a dog this would not fit in the capsule hotel we won't fit in the capsule hotel after this I love your lanyard serving me like freshman orientation realness I'm even better yeah that was a lot of dumpling just really sleepy weather oh I know it started raining really hard when we're heading back to the capsule hotel crouching with my bag with the cameras and it like under this one umbrella we got from 7-eleven yes which is a good body umbrella there's like 2 bucks Tyler was trying to take like footage of Ginza on his iPhone while we were walking back and I was having none of it none of it Hey I didn't think that through what an artistic shot if you're walking with an umbrella you're getting soaked so we hurried and scurried back to the hotel you did this Gary I scurried I got drenched I'm nervous that if we don't go now oh wow there are people employees and I feel like because we were sort of soaked it felt like the right time to soak our feet in the foot bath do an apart aching for that yeah so he took off our shoes and like jumped in which seems like what everyone else was doing it was my stubble coming across oh it's right off the bat I love the foot back it was like exactly what I've been waiting for you know it is actually weirdly appropriate for this weather yeah it's like it's comfortable out there my sneakers going to be wet in the rain my beard I'm cold and clammy and now they're having a bath with the only kind of off-putting thing about the foot bath was that it was like really next to the street the street Sophia's feet my hammer toes were being exposed to the businessmen of Ginza they were yeah so was the stubble I never really it's not the foot bath you wanted but it's the foot bath you've deserved my one question was whether or not there were any like rogue foot bathers that weren't even staying at Hotel he's like luck in off the street Steve yeah how'd they stop you not unless they were like we don't know I don't know they check it all yeah so with their feet thoroughly soaked we went back into the hotel to go to our pods okay so this is already part ways he's gonna go to her floor I would say apply for a check on our rooms for first time all right bye smell you later so I went upstairs and started getting ready for bed all right so I put on my scrubs and I'm ready to take on my capsule oh yeah with that so the layout of the women's floor was essentially like lockers then common room then bathroom and showers and then there were a few hallways of the like actual pods that were closed off from the rest of the floor with like doors so it sounds like your floor was a little different than mine mine was like the first main lockers the bathroom but then we had sort of like the pods and then the common room now I think for both of us like the common areas were very crowded when we got back from our foot mass oh yeah so we decided to head straight for our pods and then film the rest of our floors later all right so this is my section and my pot number is 407 it appears I am a bottom bunk and um that's me so I guess uh let's get in there huh let's test out the waters now my pod was kind of like a filing cabinet pod to be more morbid it was sort of like a morgue pod where you kind of have like a narrow square entrance and like most of the pod is closed off yeah you're going in yeah exactly yeah you're crawling it mine was more like horizontal almost like a window shelf gotta like roll in Wow is my room Tyler also went like full ASMR whisper from the beginning right away I was very very quiet like I don't think I'm even that audible it's very common here which is funny because like I thought I was whispering but like now it seems like I'm just like fully talking sorry I'm whispering it I just don't want to wake anyone else up because I'm some of the pod doors are already closed I don't want to be that pod you know the noisy one I also filmed like a quick tour of my capsule it's my point of view that's my blanket that's my TV ooh and they gave me headphones as well oh I like that my pod ended up being pretty much the same but my tour was all in the dark yeah Tyler couldn't figure out where the light switch was if there was like a master switch which controlled everything within the pod and I missed it on the way in so like I was sitting in there and I was like okay I guess there's just no lights really there's like a couple of logs where like Tyler tries to be like oh I figured it out and then like presses a button and nothing happens what's cuddly I was like this can't be this dark you figured it out eventually though after I figured out the light I loved the pod it to me it's totally like a blanket for it it's so comfortable it's almost like just like you're a hermit crab and this is your shell so you kind of like just tuck away like it's perfect it's like kid was like making like blanket forward so I can't really complain everybody liking this it definitely here's one of these things of the trunk of my car what does that mean uh I just mean for like napping you know I got taking naps in my car like at lunch and stuff so I was like just take a nap in the pot in the back of my car just a sidecar for a nap it kind of so when I first got in the pod I don't know if I was surprised by how comfortable it was but I definitely like felt pretty good in it like I felt like sort of nicely tucked away but not squished cozy yeah if I had to guess I would say this pod is probably like 4 feet tall and 7 feet long I'm not like definitely too long for it but I'm close I also found the bedding to be quite comfortable the mattress is not super thick but it's kind of like a memory filmy so it's nice and seem with the pillow a little memory foam action going on for sure I think the only thing I didn't like is that you can't like lock the pod at all so like it's just like a little sort of screen door that opens and closes which I guess makes sense because like in an emergency situation like you don't want to be like locked in a pod it also might be like really claustrophobic and you say yeah but then also like when you're like leaving the pod for a second like you can't like lock anything in there but you know everyone sort of on an even playing field so I feel okay about that regardless I was having a good time hello and I kind of thought like the pods looked sort of familiar from the outside look of these pods I'm mildly convinced that this is the same capsule hotel that they stayed in in season 3 of America's Next Top Model I was actually really wrong about that yeah like when Yuri watch the scene I was talking about the pods don't look even a little bit similar not at all I think you were just watching like way too much of America's Next Top Model like right around then so as we mentioned before the common rooms had been like full of people when we first got there so we had to bide our time until people went to bed before we go out in film okay let's go let's see if we can explore a little bit there so Tyler just stayed awake for a couple of hours and then tried to like walk around and vlog more my method ended up being taking a nap and then waking up in the middle of the night to kind of have like a vlog fever dream I think I was in like a weird like vlogging trance because I just started filming everything everything well a great shot of this bathroom aren't you glad I'm filming this bathroom then I went and took a shower and I grabbed some of the bathroom freebies that they give you like a washed our some earplugs and then a toothbrush with like a little bit a toothpaste at the bottom it is like actually a really cute toothpaste the showers were quite nice yeah I did take some sort of like r-rated shower footage that we're not gonna show here just cuz I was just nervous that there was gonna be something cool happening in the shower but no it was a pretty normal shower I think this continues that whole like fever dream of vlogging thing right you're just like a little delirious you're like I need to vlog everything okay so I've just finished my shower and I finally have the lounge to life since it's closing in on 3:00 a.m. and I'm the last one awake now that we have the lounge to ourself I think we should get something from the vending machine which is just like really prominent in this audio right now especially because I don't want to talk like super full voiced even though I am in the lounge and that's somewhat allowed I feel like this is where you lost it or I guess lost it more because you just like filmed a vending machine for like 20 minutes yeah I was really upset that they didn't have the jasmine tea I want I know yeah I watched it it seems that at this hour they only have those things so they don't even have my Jasmine teach you see the ones that are lit up well I don't want coffee or milk tea so I guess I'll just get some sparkling water what do you guys think this is alright well it was a mystery item who you know what based on the design I bet you it's like peach flavored water Sophia also foam like a mini review for like the drink that she got from the vending machine that like no one cares about yeah I thought I was filming like a taste test I was like you know what this video needs is like an extended taste test of like a pretty normal peach flavored water yeah smelling it it definitely like peach water I wonder if it's like bubbly or not I mean this is like 1/10 of it that we kept oh no it almost used like propel he's actually really good thankfully I eventually stopped this and then went back to my pod I mean I guess with that it's time to actually go to bed and wake up in like a few hours this is my home way at night very softly Tyler also like explored at this hour and like tried to vlog a little bit weirdly the guys floor like never cleared out there were just like dudes hanging out all night I decided to go to bed to wake up early to kind of like do like a capsule hotel morning routine I'm sorry if my chest hair startled anyone it startled me it's shocking and I've seen your chest hair a lot of times that's not really well there you go I don't remember taking off my shirt it just must have come off subconsciously anyway yes so Tyler you got up and then you did your morning routine in your pod organization is key in here so I had to put my contacts in which is kind of hard I didn't want to like drop saline solution on the floor after that the next step of my routine was to take a shower I did not take any naked footage in the shower unlike some people here to my chagrin and then they have like a complimentary razor like a toothbrush so you know I did my stuff and that was basically it that was my capsule hotel morning routine I slept in a little bit just because I had done what was essentially my morning routine in the middle of the night yeah okay so it's about 8:00 a.m. and I think it's time to wake up I slept pretty soundly to be honest the pill it didn't end up being like as life-changing as I thought it was when I first got on it but actually the mattress is pretty nice it's like firm but not too firm insistent yet yielding so basically I just got to chill while Tyler was getting ready eyes are all cleaned up locked up tagged up so I start heading home they spent like an awesome stay I'm very relaxed okay let's go find Sofia so I'm dressed and pretty much ready to go I'm just saying oops that was loud I'm just saying goodbye to my capsule goodbye iPod it's been real so with that we turned off our pods and grabbed our shoes ooh and the socks are still wet now that is what I like to feel and then we checked out ready to go yeah you see well I did actually I slept amazing yeah I feel pretty good but um I'm ready to go okay it's almost night boogies our breakfast yeah good bye Bay Hotel Ginza in foot bath Jeff that it was nice knowing you okay so that was our capsule hotel experience last year I definitely understand the use case we described at the beginning of this video where we said it's like a place for you to crash if you don't want to sleep in your car like go to a capsule hotel it's very comfy to me it kind of felt like a very clean very private hostel yeah it's going to describe it like it was kind of fun to have common spaces and I did enjoy the novelty of like sleeping in a little drawer yeah and I did honestly have like a good night's sleep but I'm not sure I would want to stay there for more than two or three nights like there's a fair amount of like ferrying your stuff around the floor like from your locker to your pod to the shower back again and I feel like it might get like tiring for like an extended stay no you really don't have a rope also thankfully neither of us are claustrophobic no because I could see that being an issue in the pod but it's not like super super squished so maybe you would be okay yeah like they're really small but I would sort of say it's more like cozy and like really locked in I did also really like the freebies that we got they're cool like the little toothpaste and the scrubs I had a good razor those were wonderful I had a medium close shave but let's not forget the real cherry on top of the experience which was the foot bath I would say the capsule was fun but the foot bath was amazing so all in all we would recommend the capsule hotel for short stays and the foot bath for any stay any time yeah you're My whole family loved her Japan series. We had visited Japan in 2012 and seeing their trip made me want to go back so bad.
