Please note that this website is currently a work in progress! Lots of interesting data and statistics to come.
That Instagram dude is such a piece of shit and I'm really happy that the guard handled it well and things have been going great for him.
Also Logan is gonna end up getting one of these stupid kids hurt because he's so irresponsible.
I've worked at the SDCC for many years now and I've known many people who have worked at vid con, they all tell me the same thing: "Never again". The problem is not their fame, it's lack of professionalism, from both sides.
I've dealt with A-list celebrities, with fucking twilight, with all the Marvel stuff and huge events like that. You know the difference: studios are professionals, any wacky stunt they want tu pull goes through EVERYONE, security, SDCC staff, convention center staff... everyone.
But it's the same as lack of PR, these youtube famous people have no concept of any of this, they gained fame doing stuff on their own and thus can't really gel as a collective or in a more professional environment, it's why most multichannel coalitions end up failing. And add to that actually fisically putting them in the same place you cna see why it's a terrible idea.
But it's not all their fault, VidCon itself fails to take any of this into account! Everyone who has worked there has told me just about everything elicits an "I don't know" from higher-ups. Are the YouTubers planning some shenanigans? I don't know, what do we do when it happens? I don't know. They seme to think this convention can run itself like a local anime con or a well geared timeless machine like ECCC, but it isn't, no studio professional no organization no long standing understanding of how to run the show...
To me, VidCon sounds like a terrible idea, and no one seems aware of it, it lacks any professional organization from everyone.
"Fuck anyone who uses blue-collar as an insult. Blue-Collar you mean the life blood of America." - Phil
I know Laci and Sargon, that's it. I've never heard of any of these other "big youtubers". Guess I'm getting old.
I think celebrities and personalities are somewhat responsible for what fans do. If someone says on twitter "go follow this guys vids", the normal response would for followers to go watch videos. A few of those fans may be extremists who turn into stalkers and harassers for a collab.
Take this logic to vidcon and the people who got kicked out. Showing up at a crowded convention center and you're popular on that platform, the normal response is for people to want an autographs and pictures. That produces an unsafe environment, which is why the packet said call for security to form a line. I get that they might not have a packet, but it is common sense that you will get mobbed, especially if you're calling attention to yourself by vlogging or flying a drone.
Sargon knew he would get a reaction, because he knows what kind of person Anita is, hell, he's been talking about her works and her antics for years. They definitely have a history, and while I am sure he was genuinely curious about what she was going to talk about and how she would answer some of the questions she received, I am sure he knew he would actually bring more out of her appearance just by making one himself.
I mean, yeah, it is understandable for her to feel uncomfortable with him there, and even intimidated (considering how she actually has received harassment that may have been incited, albeit indirectly, be some of his content). Regardless, he exposed her once again, as she refused to be the bigger person, and refused to be respectful or professional, and instead threw a tantrum and proved she is completely incapable of being in the same room as any of her detractors without playing the "poor little me" card. Shit, Sargon has never directly or indirectly told his fans to go after her, he isn't responsible for what assholes and idiots do. And look at all of the shit he is getting just for doing nothing but sitting down and saying nothing. These people act like he is a serial killer. He's just a harsh critic with a few bad eggs in his fandom, and you can say the same exact thing about Anita.
They are alike in that fashion. Sorry for the rant, I see plenty of good takes on the matter in this thread and Phil's was solid too. I just had to share.
I don't know if it's just me, but the Instagram "model" douche looks a lot like like Elliot Rodger otherwise known as, "The Virgin Killer" the sociopath who murdered 6 people in 2013 at the University of California. Both pieces of human garbage of different levels.
That Christian "instagram model" kid is going to mouth off to the wrong person one day and I hope someone is recording it when it happens.
As an outside individual and casual observer of an interaction between two individuals (Anita/Sargon) Anita was in the wrong based on facts on hand/video period. I am not a follower of either individual. That being said if it is indeed true that Anita views any individual that challenges/questions her views
the male genderasinferiorfallacious or refuses to debate them in any way shape or form she is in the wrong. This is the wrong time to take a hard stance against an entiregenderpopulace that may disagree or want to openly debate an alternative viewpoint other than hers alone or that of a single individual. Anita's actions and words are radicalizing more and more of themale populationpublic against her. The current American political climate most likely does not share her viewpoint as would many of their supporters. Apparently both individuals share a heated and contentious/controversial past with plenty of animosity from both sides. The actions of Sargon did not violate any law from casual observance of the Franco video. Hence my personal take on why she was in the wrong as are the VidCon organizers whom apparently have taken sides and not been objective. VidCon should have made their decision based on the evidence on hand. Anita clearly violated the VidCon polices and demonstrates clear gender bias/negativity.To Quote /u/AndyThatSaysNi:
By calling for security to remove that male individual for no other reason than asking a question is wrong. Either provide factual evidence he was part of the group Sargon was in attendance with or not. If none exists than it goes towards what many here have been commenting about Anita being a "continual victim" that sees/views any from of reasonable debate or question as a personal attack against her. This is highlighted even more so if it is gender based. There are much bigger worldwide issues at stake currently such as:
Net Neutrality
Now this is an issue both Sargon and Anita along with their followers should be deeply invested in. Their time and efforts could be better spent in support of this cause because it will affect them greatly if it is defeated/removed. All social media platforms will be adversely affected if Net Neutrality is defeated by congress and the GOP.
