we made a robot dog (ft. michael reeves)

so michael yeah today we'll be building a robot dog huh this guy's toast someone messaged me saying hey i work for boston dynamics i can't get you a free dog but you know i can give you instructions on how to make a dog okay and i replied to him and he didn't respond to that and then after after a month i'm like the actual spot dog is gonna take like half a year to get here yeah which sucks yes yeah so in the meantime we couldn't make our own dog so i ended up taking his advice and looking up on how to build a robot dog okay but i can't really understand how to build it so i bought the parts for you to build oh okay got this like carbon fiber plates yeah you know what this is copper pdp an sd guard okay i know what that is okay uh carbon fiber dog legs that's sick yeah it's so light light pull battery yeah that's definitely battery and you can overcharge this you can yeah but so that's why you have like really nice chargers so you don't over charge when they don't explode the chassis and i think like one two three four five six seven eight nine ten um 12 servos so what does a servo do it's a motor that you can control very accurately the like degrees it can turn to it hasn't really dawned on me how complex we're getting like looking at these parts what are you expecting here i've never seen that many servos in one place how much does this cost i think a thousand bucks no i've never used raspberry pi i understand it's like a small computer it's kind of like legos almost i imagine just throw it together right yeah [ __ ] throw it i got something that's not okay mostly did the guy tell you like how close this was to the actual boston dynamics dog um it has four legs and it can like move move and that's what we're gonna use the boston dynamic dog for anyway true yeah [Music] it's a magnetic bowl oh oh yeah yeah it is oh so chad can see the fact that it's magnetic so they think i think it is toxic ah avoid eye and skin contact can i mess with you yeah also i was looking at this do we even have anything that looks similar to that i feel like we have all the parts yeah yeah because these parts are from like a third party and looked at the website it's actually 70 year old man with this one it's very cute oh and they flip it for a product they're like drop shippers exactly okay i have a problem yo what's up how do we oh [ __ ] i'm starting to understand why the boston dynamics dog is seventy-five thousand dollars ah i feel like you can archaeologists because we've kind of freeballed a few of these steps i'm thinking we have this one eventually fight the big one oh that would be awesome how thick would it be to have like multiple small dogs yeah and price-wise we can get a hundred of these for one that's kind of disgusting like a little you know those doggies that's kind of sick kind of fun to play with oh body or something all right oh you want to see my bench grinder check this out tell us but yeah i bought it now i just look for things to grind down see this is weird right is this one side or is it the back is this the ass i kind of touched my lips a little with the lock height on my how fingertips it taste it's actually a little sweet poison or like mustard gas if you're secretly breathing it and you don't know things starts tasting sweet lemons was it lemons that's epic this is on the upper side but for that it's on the lower side you see what i mean i'm trying to figure out why so it's the thing you can just do that right and then it becomes the other side [Laughter] so it's not okay it may cause allergic reaction with skin and eye i'm pretty sure what tell you if it was like yeah it would say poison control on it yeah it says skin and eye didn't say anything about ingesting it yeah so you can just don't get it on your skin but you can drink it that's so cool oh dude it's like it's very tammy size yeah it's bigger than i expected me too so dog fighting is illegal right between two live dogs between two real dogs yes but two robot dogs would be yeah i'm sure that's never been a case that's even visited i wonder if tim could take this this is so much heavy yeah it doesn't have like a lot of articulation at all timmy's max speed is absolutely higher than this like tammy's legs are like like hitter padded oh we could put attachments on it oh you know what i mean like a little knife the pistons in the front and you just have a giant knife coming out so it jumps like a flea or a jumping spider so now we're getting to like the software [ __ ] yes which i'm hoping is easy oh my [ __ ] god if the servo doesn't start smoking when you plug it in good job so we have all of the servos plugged in is that a problem like it's supposed to be able to run all servos at the same time anyway that's what i'm saying and also what i'm saying is if one servo burns out i don't even want the other side i think mainly the reason is because people self-solder we had a pre-solder so if it's yeah by a adult grandpa yeah thank god for that 80 year old grandpa when these explode they don't like boom no it's like a but it's like um that's a big lipo right yeah you sure it's our nasa rover or whatever but like it's just like both and it's like it's more like a really fast really hot burning chemical fire it's like toxic surely got it yeah that's what we're going to be testing yeah that's the dogs that's it look at the pie it's on all the lights nothing's on fire okay we're good i thought it's gonna be easy like copy and paste it's not like copy and stanford no someone's probably telling him about this [ __ ] you stanford nerd oh my god wait the guy from stanford said hello hey hey what's up hey how's it going i want to hear yourself stanford [ __ ] i'm joking i appreciate all the work you put in this is so funny imagine spending like one to two years of your life figuring out how to like 3d print each part figuring out like the reverse kinematic model all the electronics are going to go into it all the software stuff then you [ __ ] tune into a stream stanford [ __ ] leg look bad stanford [ __ ] like he did all this work because he didn't document one part getting [ __ ] on by two idiots no nothing oh i know his name in twitch chat and what he typed was why aren't you guys following the document vacuum that's wrong bro what the [ __ ] do you do document [ __ ] you think you know better than that time about mom please don't we really need it we need a stanford guy you need to type rw to enable writing [ __ ] that's he just made it like this this version was originally meant for our mars rovers team is what stanford guy said we're going to mars okay now there's another guy who claims to be the lead stanford guy a different thing we have bigger boots from stanford he says you need to change the sshd file to allow all ssh hosts yeah i love those the guys who built the thing and like we're still too we dense it we did it we did it we did it and it was all us we did it yeah we're the best toast it's just a little beaut yeah oh easy we're the best oh it was just us and all this thank you so much stanford guy for being both of you stanford guys for being up to help us i wonder how [ __ ] we would have been if they weren't giving a step-by-step instruction i just want it to move yeah i just want it even if it squirms on the ground like a wounded chimera i'm fine
