recently we ran a time-lapse test to see how well the AI was doing in the 1.2 patch and to our surprise it was much better than previous time lapses however Bania was still struggling to survive and vandia flourished in this video we'll be running several tests to see if we can help batania survive and keep vandia in check fixing the campaign map AI once and for all in the previous time lapse land was passed back and forth for a few decades between three major kingdoms while the rest died off batania imp particular would be gone shortly after 25 years mostly being gobbled up by vandia in order to fix this issue we have a few options at our disposal such as giving batania another clan and two starting thieves kalas Castle to the north and Orman fard at the choke point between vandia and batania let's see if this is enough to help batania survive the first year consisted of taking and losing the same castles over and over again uim Castle was taken and lost six times for example although looking at the end of year one data you couldn't tell much happened as the thief count for batania stayed the same they did lose one Noble in battle but the map is mostly unchanged otherwise the thief change notes for year 2 batania are pretty mellow taking and losing AME another three times but otherwise not much else happened Valia began to bully sturgia to the north opting to leave batania alone for this time period the year end data shows batania Once Again unchanged with 15 thiefs still the rest of the map is relatively stable although rega saw her kingdom cut in half from the start down to only seven thiefs while it's still too early to tell it does seem like the extra Clan and thiefs are helping stem the vandan tide time to speed things up a bit this period will be looking at years 3 4 and five the fief change notes are pretty sparse considering its 3 years of action sadly the AI still struggles to hold other culture towns in vara's loss to Rebellion some sturgeon castles were taken and lost as well as a few batanian thiefs in the South there was a long period of Peace near the end before war broke out with sturgia one interesting point Bania lost an entire Clan this time period sadly there are some Clans that have only two adults meaning if they die before their kids come of age the entire Clan is wiped out in this case they lost two adults from Battle and their Clan was gone switching over to the year-end data we see batania actually increase in size up to 18 thiefs however the cracks are beginning to form they're down from 9 to8 Clans and from 61 downed 53 Nobles most of which were underage and died off when their parents died the rest of the map is fairly stable Southern Empires regained some lands the North lost all of their gains the West grew by a modest amount vandia hasn't changed at all Kaz continues to grow steadily sturgia is slowly bleeding thiefs and the astroy lost only a few the next 5 years we see a stark contrast batania went to war with sturgia at first taking and losing veg several times then they were attacked by the Western Empire and lost lands then vandia and full circle back to sturgia again it wasn't massive losses all at once but a slow steady loss without the ability to retake the lands at a later time our poor banians have been cut in half going from 18 down to nine thiefs in total the clan count stayed the same and they even picked up one new adult Noble the rest of the world was mostly stable with a few exceptions vandia exploded going from 16 thiefs up to 30 and sturgia shrank from 12 down to 6 from what I could tell vandia would sit back and wait for two kingdoms to drain their Manpower swoop in to take a few thiefs and then back out to consolidate we know the AI isn't smart enough to do this intentionally so it seems their positioning on the map is ideal for this scenario to take place time and time again but all might not yet be lost for Bania let's check out the next 5year stretch we see a few back and forth Thief changes with stury but then batania is attacked in the heartlands losing Pono of landia once again they're attacked on multiple fronts and end up losing thiefs to their enemies batania would go to war with sturgia the empires and kazet attrition their Manpower away from back and forth battles then vandia would swoop in to snag one or two thiefs and back out batania was able to hold their own against one neighbor at a time but not two or three the end of year 15 sees another shocking decrease in size going from 9 to only five theves meaning there are multiple Clans without any land Noble count actually increased by 10 but it didn't seem to help make any difference in the end the rest of the world was mostly stable gaining or losing a fif for 2 overall sturgia has mostly stabilized though going from six to eight fiefs now and 80 Nobles I know the video is focusing on batania but sturgia also suffers the same issues so it's good to see them hanging in there now we'll look at the next 5 years going from year 16 up to 20 there was a long piece at the start of this period with with nothing happening then war broke out with bandia lanaken Castle was passed back and forth a few times then Aster castle and finally pendra Castle aside from that not much else changed looking at the rest of the world it's clear why the Western Empire was too busy gobbling up the other Empire lands taking the south from 10 down to four and the north from 8 down to four vandia sturgia and kazet lost a couple a thiefs each and aserai was cut in half when bia's neighbors are busy they actually stand a chance of of survival however they're still holding less than half of their starting thieves and have several Clans without any land meaning they can't afford to pay for troops for long as with the other tests it's only a matter of time before they're wiped off the map it doesn't seem an extra Clan and two thiefs is enough to stem the red tide and to add some statistical weight to this video we ran the test another five times to make sure this wasn't a fluke looking over the data we can see a few patterns emerge each box represents a Kingdom's total thiefs at the end of a 25-year test test out of the five runs batania was eliminated entirely three times and left with less than half for the other two it was interesting to see two out of the Three Kingdoms face the same fate as batania and always only one Kingdom doing well it also seems random which empire Kingdom will do well with Western and Northern Empire doing well two times each and the southern Empire only once vandia always performed well with the lowest Thief count being 28 kazet was a mixed bag with some good runs one bad run and the rest ending near where they started aserai mostly did well with one test ending up with only eight thiefs but not all as lost we've got one more test to run batania will have the same starting Clans and thiefs as usual but will be boosting each Noble up to 300 skill in all categories and picking perks for them most of these skills are useless for the AI but some are incredibly important like tactics medicine and steart let's see if this change will help taking a look at the notes we see a massive list of thief's changing hands although there are a lot more taken than lost on the list it's incredible to see batania expanding into core valan towns within the first weeks of the Run taking Saro jacalan Ox Hall provend reval and chados looking at the year and stats we see batania healthier than ever before with 22 thiefs and more than triple its Kingdom strength part of this increase is from the new thiefs garrisons but it's also coming from nobles with high Steward and Leadership filling out the rest of the the party size most kingdoms are unchanged but vandia took a massive hit going from 16 down to six and barely managing 1300 Kingdom strength it's great to see vandia struggling for once at this point batania was taking land so quickly we had to zoom out for the time laps part and we could no longer see castles Changing Hands however the notes are still plentiful with over a dozen towns Changing Hands in favor of batania not only did they continue to take land from vandia but they also went to war with the Western Empire and sturgia some rebellions were popping up at this point but they were quickly retaken after a week or two the year-end stats tell a tale of perfection not only is batania surviving but they are much smarter with their Conquest they conquered more lands from an already weakened vandia then shifted their focus to the Western Empire taking them from 11 down to Five Thieves they didn't get bogged down in multiple front Wars or if they did they had the ability to fight them off without losing much land my biggest fear was the AI taking only a couple thieves then suing for a quick piece instead of going on a rampage but that's clearly not the case here you might be wondering if anything could stop batania at this point in looking at the notes it doesn't seem so although there was a large uptake in Town's rebelling nearly 10 rebellions for this 3-year period they increased their Holdings from 35 up to 69 yet still have only eight Clans to hold them all that's 8 and 1/2 thiefs per Clan more than enough to pay for a massive Army it's important to note everyone except the Kaze and the aserai have been disant mled by Bania at this point the southern Empire still has a respectable nine thiefs but that's seven less than they started with at the end of year 2 the other two empires have only a handful left vandia has kicked the bucket for once in sturgia it was mostly stripped only three thiefs remaining kazet and the aserai were left alone for this part but I suspect that won't last for long it should be no surprise now the next 5 years were wholesale Slaughter While most kingdoms fought back against batania temporarily recovering some of their land it was only a matter of time before they were wiped out too rebellions were more of an issue than every Kingdom at this point but again they had no problem taking the land back quickly looking at the year-end data we see a cal radio that is more similar to a speedrun world Conquest than a typical campaign all three empires have been destroyed kazet and sturgia have also been eliminated and the aserai are all that's left batania still have only eight Clans in their Kingdom with 109 thiefs amongst them I'm not sure why they don't recruit any of the orphan Clans to help hold their thiefs though you might also be wondering why the aserai were able to survive we ran this time lapse for another 5 years and the map didn't change at all looking at the peace deal between asay in batania we can see why they are paying well over 20 million Dinars per day for peace which is many multiples more than they would get from taking the land and holding it for themselves interestingly the AI is allowed to go negative and continue to pay this outrageous piece indefinitely leading to an infinite stalemate let's go back and watch a couple of the time lapses while we discuss the main takeaways from these tests batania has always struggled with surviving past 10 to 20 years of any campaign there are many reasons why this is the case such as low Clan and Noble count compared to their neighbors homelands being tightly packed together making it easier to take multiple thiefs in one war and worst of all their map positioning they're surrounded by several kingdoms all of which will slowly attrition their army down and eventually strip their lands more often than not batania will hold their ground Against One or even two opponents only to be stabbed in the back by vandia with a fresh Army it's no surprise that vandia always does well it comes at the expense of batania one solution that could level the playing field is to increase the relevant stats in this test 300 skill was not a good solution because having batania owned the entire world in 10 years is silly but backing that number off to somewhere between 300 could be a viable option another solution could be to reduce the starting stats of landia they already have a numers Advantage from the start so reducing their effectiveness could be a counterbalance perhaps betania just needs less Neighbors From the Start so a map redesign or Thief redistribution could help or maybe batania is meant to fail by Design adding some drama to Cal Ria and preventing a stagnant map I'm curious what your experiences and thoughts
