Egypt is an incredible country but it's also Infamous for constant scamming Hassle and cheating luckily with the Egypt travel tips I'm about to share you can make your trip 100 times more enjoyable stick to the end for the biggest tip of all also in part one of this video we revealed all the turkey scams to look out for including the times that we got scammed make sure to watch that one next if you haven't already I'll link to it down in the description [Music] all right so we're going to list these tips Out Rapid Fire here are some ways to avoid hasslers on the street first is to try to walk closely behind other locals especially other women if you can if they're a bunch of hasslers and Hawkers on the street you can essentially use these nice women as bodyguards you could also try to pretend to grab selfie videos while you're walking down the street and maybe they won't bother you you could also try just putting in headphones even if you don't have music on to pretend you don't hear people another tip that really worked for us especially for people offering transport to different temples and things is just to Simply say I already did it and then they'll leave you alone I also often just pretended that I didn't speak English and so if people would come up to me and start talking to me and ask me where I'm from I would say Colombia and I would speak only in Spanish and this would deter a lot of people who didn't know how to speak in Spanish if someone really latches on to you and won't leave you alone another tip is just to walk into a near building or store or something like that and just wet it out inside until they give up speaking of which it's my aren't to be strategic about where you're going to stop and take rest or hang out for a little while you don't want to sit down or rest in the middle of a bunch of craziness it's better to find a quiet kind of hidden area where people aren't going to be passing you all the time asking you to do things and in all situations just make sure to be polite and friendly but most importantly firm also don't feel like you have to give explanations why why you can't do something or why you don't want to buy something just say la shukran which means no thank you if you start giving explanations for why you can't or don't want to do something that just opens up the door for them to try to keep convincing you and not leave you alone it's also smart to have a plan before you go out and walk on the streets and already know exactly what you want to do because one of the biggest issues we had were we weren't exactly sure what we wanted to do and a guy came up and tried to start bothering us and we were indecisive and didn't know and so he kind of latched on to that but if you have a plan and know what you want to do and you're set on that plan then they'll usually leave be alone we also noted that a lot of these Hawkers especially in Luxor and haswan they're not really early risers and so if you're up and about before 9am or whatever you're probably going to have a lot less problems next are tips to avoid the hotel switching problem that we explained in the last video where you book somewhere and then they arrive and then they say they don't have any space and they send you to another hotel and if you're going to Cairo or Giza specifically I recommend booking online however you normally book then send them a message asking to confirm that the room specific room that you booked is available on the dates that you want in so then you have written proof that there should be an open room for you when you get there also when you're using these booking platforms and reading the reviews of other people don't rely only on the reviews from the specific booking platform for example booking.com or hostile world it's also a good idea to check the reviews on Google and so there are some hotels that we found that they had really nice review news on booking.com or hostile world but then when I checked it on Google reviews a bunch of people were saying that they canceled their booking and they had all these problems and but they couldn't leave a review on the actual platform the next tips might seem a little bit silly but you can really make your experience better by having the right mindset before you hit the streets if you go out expecting to go to war and you're all tense and stressed and everything you're likely going to have a bad experience but if you just put in your mindset just have a chill mindset and go out and have fun if people bother you just be relaxed just keep saving no Allah no thank you cran and just go with the flow you'll have a much better experience and if you're the type of person who gets overwhelmed by these types of situations it might be a good idea just to book a tour instead of trying to go out in the streets by yourself and when it comes to scams and overcharging and those types of things don't get too caught up over just a couple bucks and don't let that ruin your trip is it really worth all the arguing and the stress and the bad feelings for a taxi who tries to charge you one dollar extra I recommend getting rid of the notion that you need to always get the absolute cheapest prices possible for everything and just go with the flow and as long as you're not getting taken to the bank if it's just 50 cents here a dollar here don't let it ruin your trip also if you're obsessing your whole trip about trying not to get scammed that's also going to ruin your trip in the end it's not really a matter of if you're gonna get scammed it's a matter of when you get scammed and that's perfectly okay you can just chalk it up to another miscellaneous travel expense and if you're there for a couple weeks it probably won't add up to more than twenty to a hundred dollars depending on what you do now I don't condone dishonest Behavior or anything but if it makes you feel better just think that they need that twenty dollars way way way more than you do also remember that it isn't rude to ignore someone who is hassling you after you've already told them no thank you you did your part by saying No thank you and so don't feel like you're being unpolite if you don't let them suck you back into a conversation that said the sad part about all of this is that after a few hours of constant Hassle and everything you start to put up walls automatically and automatically ignore whoever's trying to talk to you it sucks because it turns you into a person that you don't want to be and it prevents you from making meaningful connections with locals who are just trying to be friendly for example at the end of our three weeks in Egypt we had a super high wall put up anyone who talked to us was probably trying to scam us and so we just said no thank you right away sometimes without even hearing what they had to say and when we got to the pyramids there's a group of kids that came up to us and asked for pictures and we thought right away oh no they're just going to do the same thing as everyone else and take a picture and then try to charge us money but no they were just innocent kids being kids and they wanted to take selfies with foreigners because they thought it was cool and once we realized this we took a selfie with one of the kids and then there's this huge flock of like 20 or 30 kids all came and they all wanted their individual selfies taken one at a time and it was really cute and fun and if we would have had that wall built up and just ignoring everyone we wouldn't have had experienced that so while it's hard to find a balance sometimes try not to write off everyone automatically in Egypt yes there are a lot of stinkers out there but there are also a lot of amazing Egyptians as well alright tips for not getting overcharged tip number one is to always carry small bills from you because it's surprising and shocking how few people will have changed for your bigger bills this means taxis or in the shops we even went to the Luxor Temple which is like a really important tourist attraction and they didn't have two dollars and change to give us for taxis make sure to always use Uber or Kareem in the places where they don't have Uber we use Uber in Cairo and in Hurghada and in some of the other places we used Kareem and you'll be shocked at how cheap taxes are there when you get to the real prices and we even felt bad sometimes we thought like how is this guy making any money being so cheap and so we ended up tipping them just because we felt bad but it is very cheap when you use these apps lastly be super duper clear about what the price is before accepting anything if you're going on a boat tour or whatever and they say it costs 15 make sure it costs 15 total not fifteen dollars per person not fifteen dollars per hour not fifteen dollars per person per hour make sure that you know exactly what you're getting into and even document it if you have to before you accept anything if you're planning using the internet in Egypt do some research beforehand to make sure all the web pages that you need to go to are available in Egypt and they're not blocked otherwise make sure to set up a VPN that works in Egypt before you get to Egypt otherwise you won't be able to access it while you're there if you normally use a VPN for privacy purposes when you're using public Wi-Fi another good option is to get a data plan on your phone while in Egypt you can get a local physical SIM card but you might have problems getting the real prices you could also get a travel esim for example I use olafly while I was in Egypt and if you're interested in that you can use the link in the description and use project untethered for five percent off now onto tips about fixing problems that pop up and the number one tip is that money talks this could even be as little as 50 cents in some cases now I'm not a big proponent on tipping for ridiculously stupid things or what a lot of people call nothing jobs but in some cases if you need help with something or if you want to avoid an uncomfortable situation giving a little tip can help we actually probably made the mistake of being too stingy and not tipping these types of people just because we are sick of being seen as a walking ATM all the time but in some situations situations a small tip can help you out of a sticky situation for example one time we got sent on a wrong train but the train was still going in the same direction and one of the attendants on the train let us sit down there and then he asked for a tip and I didn't want to give him a tip because it wasn't my fault that they put me on the wrong train but he got really angry and we had a friend who ended up paying the tip for us and then later I realized wow I probably shouldn't just gave him a dollar or something just to make him happy because he has power over me and he could have kicked me off the train at any moment and so if you're in situations like that where other people have power over you and you're worried if something bad is going to happen sometimes a little bit of money can make your problems go away and now for the biggest tip of all and that is choosing the right trip for you your experience in Egypt can vary wildly depending on two things first your travel style and second your personality and past experiences we wanted the full raw Egypt experience to see what it was really like and so we did 90 of our trip traveling independently that meant organizing all of our hotels going out in the street to talk to people to find the tours finding our own food doing everything by ourselves naturally doing things this way will expose you to a lot more hassle if you want to see all the jaw-dropping sites without all the headaches you can probably avoid 90 of issues by just booking organized day tours or multi-day tours or even taking like a Nile cruise that goes down the Nile and stops at a bunch of popular sites along the way where you have everything organized for you you have your accommodation your food the tour guides take you out to the different places so nobody bothers you there and so that can be a totally different experience the downside to this way is obviously it's going to cost more and you'll be with a tour group so you'll have less flexibility with your time you'll have to go visit the places is at times when they're busy maybe and you won't be able to stay as long as you want but the upside is you get to see these incredible places without much of the hassle and so it all comes down to your priorities we tried both of these Styles while traveling Egypt and they both have their merits traveling independently was a worthy challenge but we also thoroughly enjoyed our organized tours to Orange Bay and our cheap all-inclusive resort in Hurghada if you'd like to see what those are like you can check out this video next see you guys in the next one bye-bye
