so recently i found myself in a situation where after changing out the drywall from wood paneling um the drywall's a bit thicker than the wood paneling was and it caused me to have a problem where all my door jambs uh were recessed versus the new drywall right so like there's a gap so if you take the molding and put the molding against the casing there's a gap here about a quarter inch and the solutions i could find online for this were to take a razor knife basically clamp this to the wall take a razor knife score your edge on the outside remove it and actually remove the drywall to the depth of the casing now while that works i didn't care for the look because what that meant was the molding was recessed into the wall and less of it was showing and i don't like the way that looked so i wanted a solution without having to replace all my door jambs so i think i found one and i want to share that with you guys so basically if you go to any big box retailer you should be able to find this three quarter by quarter inch piece of wood these are usually made to tap into plywood right but they work really well for this so basically if you put it up against the door jamb like so and you take your nail gun and we're gonna go ahead and nail this one in because this is a actual door jamb we're gonna be removing we've replaced the whole door so we'll just use this as a demonstration but basically if we take this and put it up against the door right take our nail gun make sure it's even all right so that'll hold it in place for now um but so now what's happened is that's caused the door jam to now be even with the drywall so now whenever we take the molding and put it against the wall there's no more gap so again i'm just going to install this because it's actually all coming out anyway but so now i take the nail gun again and nail this alright so now as you can see um we've closed that gap by adding this piece of wood now i'll take the camera off the tripod so i can show you really up close what that looks like all right so this should give you a good up close look at it you can see that the gap has been closed and on the back side there's no gap either and i think this is a lot more elegant solution because now you have your molding sitting against the wall flush like it should and not actually recessed right and i'll actually show you what that looks like on one that's been completed now we're still in the middle of the kitchen remodel now this is not painted yet but i'm going to show you you can see up and down the wall what that looks like and you can kind of see we went all the way around the whole casing and all the way back down okay so off of those little cool solution rather than having to chop out the drywall around your door casing but leave a comment below let me know what you think of the solution or if you have a better one as well for the same problem love to hear that as well but in the meantime you guys continue to enjoy your home improvement projects and have a great day
