for those of you who don't know i accidentally skipped a cutscene at the end of the last metal gear rising stream and we're gonna watch that and then i'm gonna boot up the game remember we just expect armstrong to be well written in this way i expected him to be well written like in the sense that he's highly memoric and uh very funny and like cool and stuff i didn't expect him to be written um in like a personable way the fact that even at his death he's still reaching out to uh jack uh as a as a like a like because he recognizes his strength and that's all he needs to consider him an equal also to be fair unfortunately in this um in in this example armstrong is right um ryden is living out the dream that armstrong claims he wants to bring to every man you can say armstrong is lying when he says that and that's like totally possible and you can also say he's insane and that's definitely true but ryden is literally living out his dream he fights for his own causes and his own beliefs um he is unconcerned with um the the casualties or the um or the laws like that he has to cut through he just does what he thinks is right he's living the life he's like living literally like the ubermensch life like self-control um taking control of the life that you have um that armstrong claims he wants to bring to other people so in that in that respect like i i don't know i don't think that necessarily vindicates armstrong i think it condemns ryden um indicating that like ryden's ryden's political engagement his his his interactions with the world are are like never rise above like a fascists vision of the strong man like he he never surpasses like the the archetype of the person whose strength makes him better than the weak who has the right to do whatever he wants because he can um it's like it's a weakness in in ryden's ideology right because he's motivated by humanitarianism but he very clearly is willing to super like like circumvent that um yeah that doesn't mean that ryden's like a bad person or whatever obviously he's doing this for the right reasons but i think like i think this is i this is a pretty salient critique you know like again it doesn't mean ryden's bad or they're the same they're not the same at all it just means that like ryden's the ideological product of what people like armstrong envisioned for the world um no that's really cool i man i i didn't expect this this might end up being one of my favorite games um i still want to play the dlc and play this on a higher uh difficulties but um i i think i i i think this game this this think the the the dynamic here in addition to well this game's about a lot but the main thing i'm focused on here is institutional versus individual reform it looks like ryden and crew want to make systemic changes to the world but the problem they keep running into is that the institutions they're fighting are borderline like baked into the world as it is war and corporatocracy the patriots might be dead but their legacy lives on they try their best to fight against it but in doing so all they end up doing is personifying a kind of lone rebel against the system they can never act on a systemic level only as individual agents within it which denies them the ability to make those broad changes so even when the game sets out about trying to stop like this big evil conspiracy at the end of the day all they really managed to do was kill a couple of important people and rescue some kids i was wondering why the kids were such a big plot point when the stakes were set so high early on and now i understand because that's all they were able to achieve and i think ultimately the game is kind of optimistic about that like the game is essentially saying hey there are huge problems that are desperately like uh like it's important that we solve them we need to work on them it's difficult and we can't always win against that but we can't always make some kind of difference yeah an imperfect solution for an imperfect world they literally say it right at the end that's pretty good that's good this is this is this is so much more like than what i expected from the game i again i've never played any metal gear games i know they're well written and i know they're very politically prescient and i know they're very very very very like unsubtle sometimes which i appreciate um but i didn't expect this game which i knew mostly well entirely for armstrong memes to be so um well structured in its commentary uh and so um yeah yeah just just well written in that respect you know like something can be well written without it necessarily having like a strong political point but yeah yeah i have to say i know there are people like this and i'm just so curious about them how the [ __ ] are there people who are far right or just any kind of conservative who watch this and think they're not being made fun of i genuinely have no idea like it's beyond it's utterly beyond me um like i have no idea how a conservative could could could play this and go like oh great you know because they think armstrong is cool i know that there's a tendency for arms like for for for like the the evil spooky crazy fascists to be idealized but the thing is like armstrong [Music] i i guess i think the game did a really good job of not making armstrong the kind of person that you could positively project your political views onto he's too evidently weak to be good for a fascist to project their interest in because the first thing he does is try to accept ryden and then at the end he still accepts ryden despite their ideological differences uh he he's not oppositional enough he doesn't he doesn't die vengefully uh or gloriously he he loses to the person but that's the thing they want isn't it no no no the the he's too desperate it's weakness he's looking he's craving approval um check comment sections discussion fascists love the guy they also like deliberately made him not look like a like a fascist ideal at all he looks like a bureaucrat he's got a comb over he's ugly with an oversized forehead and a kind of like weird face um and even when he goes super saiyan it's he was a kid you know what i mean like like he looks like some kind of 1950s americana with like perfect hair and like a like a like a refined accent and then he gets all strong and powerful like an
