today we are entering the Multiverse and going from this to this [Music] [Music] there's currently a huge Trend in pop culture around multiversal storytelling whether it's Spider-Man The Flash or everything everywhere all at once we're definitely in a moment but what if I told you you can add a Multiverse effect to your videos in just five steps Step One recording your footage this footage can really be anything but here's some tips to save you time in post record using a tripod locked off footage means you avoid the hassle of motion tracking your background and while it does look cool it's not as quick and easy as what we're going for here also choose a bounding box while recording you're going to be replacing much of your background but not everything so it's important to keep any motion within a bounding box I've chosen this patio window that means all motion within the shot must stay Within These boundaries it also means we won't be replacing anything within that bounding box so these elements will be the same in every Universe with those two constraints you can begin to visualize what types of environments can exist across your Multiverse Step 2 screenshot a reference photo once your footage is loaded into your editing software choose the dimensions that you want your final output to be and grab a screenshot at this point I'll often adjust the rotation position and size of my clip depending on where I want the subject to be so for this example I took vertical footage and converted it into horizontal another advantage to doing this is that you can output your content at higher than 4K for some seriously crispy looking footage three replace everything outside your bounding box using photoshop's generative fill so here's where things get interesting first things first select everything outside of the bounding box photoshop's generative fill will come up with an environment to match your reference frame if you type nothing in at all but for us to truly create unique universes you're going to need to use the prompt box now I use chat GPT to generate my props but in order to do this I needed to identify what elements within my bounding box are going to inform my prompts for example I ended up using the word patio or balcony in almost all of my prompts just to ensure that I would be placed in a context that actually makes sense beyond that you can really just let your imagination run wild prompt engineering takes a little bit of finesse but with some trial and error you can get some genuinely convincing results as many new environments as you want and then bring them back over to your editing software now I find the easiest way to make sure that your colors match up is to export these out as jpegs but pngs will work as well as long as you embed a color profile for this example I use jpegs and then I masked my video out over top of it step four mask your video out now after placing your new environments on a layer below the original footage grab the pen tool and mask out your bounding box make sure all motion is contained within this mask I recommend Feathering your mask to at least 20 points to ensure a smooth blend with the environment below I had to track my mask in a few places because the motion is so close to the edge of the window so again visualizing your bounding box before shooting goes a long way step five color grade each new world I'm not going to give a color grading tutorial nor am I the master of it but I do recommend creating a different adjustment layer for each color grade this is going to ensure that the grade affects the footage and the environment behind it I like to use films as a reference when I'm color grading especially if it feels like it's something out of a sci-fi movie or something like that like this scene now Adobe recently announced Firefly which will be integrated into Premiere Pro and that's going to allow for text prompts to color grade so while I do recommend learning how to color grade if you don't yet know how we're soon going to have something to make it even easier and with that you've got a Multiverse there's so many different techniques to make this even cooler like motion tracking more visual effects or even using mid Journey instead of Photoshop but I'm saving that for another video on after effects so subscribe if you want to see that and in the meantime maybe I'll see you in the Multiverse [Music] thank you [Music]
