It might just be me, but all these AI generated video and photo elements look fake. They just look exactly like generated images. They are good but not photo realistic. An obvious tell for me, you can see in the thumbnail, is the light coming through the window on the left hitting the window surround. It should fade off a little as it enters from left to right. Here it stays the same brightness.

in this video we are going to show you how we are using the new generative fill feature in Adobe Photoshop to create new environments for our videos this technique essentially gives you an AI driven matte painting artist in the past Hollywood used real matte paintings on glass to create imagery like this now and with basic Photoshop skills can create custom environments to extend their sets and bring life to boring spaces however just like matte paintings used in the past there is one big limitation with this new process you can't move the camera if you move the camera at all the illusion is broken and because this channel is called epic light media and we love lighting I'll show you why knowledge about cinematography is important when creating realistic environments following commercial was made with generative fill AI matte paintings finding the right cell phone service provider can be tricky especially when you live in an apocalyptic environment with no cell service the best thing to do in a situation like this is to give up trying to find cell service look for food and water and hope the radiation doesn't kill you first for more information visit giveup.com let's go over the basics about how we filmed our outside plates first camera placement is very important when you're going to be doing these things you got to look at your horizon what we've noticed is uh you can do a lot of easy shots when the camera is up high so I'm up on a hill here looking down to get a usable wide shot without green screen work you need to make sure your subject doesn't cross any areas you wish to change later with generative fill because of this we found it necessary in some instances to use our film cart to raise our camera up to the appropriate height it's funny but while we were filming up high I remembered seeing old Hollywood photos of camera operators up on wooden platforms and it dawned on me that they must have needed to film that way for the same reason however we got creative with some of our setups and chose to film Alex from an angle so his body was blocked by this freeway overpass guardrail and this concrete block so I think that's the key here if you don't want to do any green screen work with it which is still possible just find a place where your actor can do their scene without interacting with that background next we went inside and chose to film some setups against the plain gray wall in our studio we turned our camera vertical to maximize resolution because the sides of the image would be covered anyway I just need to capture my body and the generative fill will take care of the rest this room is super boring all we have is a gray wall so imagine this space with like a window here and some other stuff the trick here is to think okay if I'm going to have a window there then I need a light coming from that side and I think these elements will make the scene more realistic and dramatic and more intentful so let's get started with our our key light and I'm going to place it in front of me this paper here you just put onto a c-stand arm if you have a c-stand and you can just bring it down all the way up strap well imagine that there's a wall over here with a bunch of Windows and now through the diffusion I'm going to put this aperture Nova actually and the reason why I want this light is because it's already a soft Source [Music] aha I'm gonna go get a stand for this I'll be right back so I'm gonna put the light right around here this light from aperture has a junior pin it's really big so it needs to go into a combo stand like this I'm going to dial this in so we're at 5600 Kelvin that's kind of like daylight let's see what this looks like okay so this is how we're looking with this light I think it looks really cool but what's happening is this light is bouncing over into the wall here so I'm gonna block this off let's check this out see what it looks like next I kind of want to have a a warm glow coming from the other side of me and because we'll put in a lamp later I want to use a light that's bi-color and small so I have this in mind right here this is the amaran two foot tube light my number one goal with this light is realism so this does have a battery but I'm going to plug it in we'll see what this looks like well here we are I'm standing in this beautiful room and with a with a large window and this beautiful lamp and I love being in this space it's a it's a comforting place for me just kidding I promise we will go into details soon about how we designed this room in Photoshop okay well this was fun let's do another setup now where I'm sitting at like a cafe table we have not lit this yet but we have placed the camera it's vertical again so I'm gonna be sitting here now in this restaurant I want again big Windows big windows are a cinematographer's friend but I want it to be extra soft so I'm going to turn down the intensity of this light but I'm going to have this time this paper is going to be really close to Me Maybe in the background we'll do some different colored lights next now a lot of cinematographers they say you shouldn't have lights close to people you shouldn't have things really close I disagree I'm going to move this light over here now [Music] I'm gonna lower the intensity of this light at this point I also chose to move the two foot tube light closer to me but I turned down the intensity let's go to 25 percent check this out so now we have the evidence of a warm glow from some sort of warm ceiling light and a window next I want to bring in a little bit of a blue fill for my face for the blue light I want to use the Aperture MC Pros that just came out so these little aperture lights are great I know I always talk about aperture stuff but they really are my favorite Lighting Company I'd be talking about aperture a lot even if they didn't give us free stuff so I've dialed in this blue light this camera's rolling we're just going to do this little sequence here after bringing this footage into Photoshop we decided to create a modern dining room area instead of a cafe I originally thought the blue light could be motivated by a neon sign but since that didn't work out I regret using it for this setup let me know what you think in the comments okay so next let's finally talk about how to use generative fill in Photoshop first export a still in your editing software but make sure to have your subject scaled to the desired size so it will be easier to bring back in later when you bring the still into Photoshop the background will be black so you need to make the background clear that way the generative AI will be able to do its thing next highlight what you want to change with AI click generative fill and see what you get the AI gave us three options but we decided to go with this one as our base layer after that we weren't very happy with the window so we highlighted the window area typed in window as the prompt and it gave us three options we chose this one this process continued as we refined the image for about an hour here is the remainder of our work sped up to 30 seconds as you can see there are many decisions to make but it's a fun process it's important to note that creating something great with this AI tool still requires an artist's eye and some decent skills in Photoshop generative fill can unexpectedly create something really great or really bad so you have to be patient after some final touches the image was ready to bring back into our editing software at this point hide the original layer and Export and save the layer as a PNG next open your editor and drag in the image there will probably be a color space problem so the clips don't match in our instance we needed to change the image to a Rec 709a color space at that point our colors matched again but there was still more work to do in our editor our colorist was able to incorporate all of the elements more fully by correcting color and exposure in different parts of the image also some glow around the lamp and window added realism here is the final video with all of the effects applied well here we are I'm standing in this beautiful room and oh one more thing we were able to zoom in on the image this much because we edited this on a 12K timeline this was possible because we filmed the plate vertical on a 6K camera so let us know what you think do you think this new tool looks realistic enough to be used in professional videos could you tell what was made by Ai and what wasn't you may not have noticed but the narration for this video was made with AI as well the voice you are currently hearing is fake [Applause] hahaha
