Upgrade To SharePoint 2019 | Best Practice

hello everyone in this session we're gonna talk about very important topic about how to upgrade your sharepoint from 2016 to sharepoint 2019 this very important topic by the way but i'm gonna say here it's only applied to sharepoint 2016 if your environment still in SharePoint 2013 all you have to do is go from 2013 to 2016 first and then apply you know this step to your farm to go to SharePoint 2019 and also it's applied if you are from 2010 you have in Auto come step by step from 2010 10 2013 and 2013 2016 and from there you can come to 2019 this you know how SharePoint works so right now you farm I suggest that it's still in SharePoint 2016 and you would like to upgrade this one to be a SharePoint to any my team alright so the first step all you have to do you have to go and create SharePoint Server 2019 just fresh copy in a fresh server and after that all you have to do a very big package are step you have to copy databases to new SharePoint farm to win a my team so go to your SharePoint 2016 copy all database from there and move it to 2019 after that there is well be a command for upgrading your database and upgrading your service application to match SharePoint 2019 and the last step definitely you have to upgrade content database and all site connections this is basically a very big picture so let's see no get in deep and understand what's going on here first of all we're gonna talk about the first step install SharePoint Server 2019 and I will in a new environment so all you have to do is go then we load all prerequisite and stole SharePoint go step by step and finish install your SharePoint 2019 after that you have to install all language pack that you would like to use in your environment for example if your environment right now support English French German Arabic Indian so you have to install all those language of up there in a new environment all right after that after you configure everything for language over there and finish installing SharePoint 2019 and we did that in a complete video you have to go for that and review it you have for the next step to go and configure the service application you must do this step so all you have to do is configure business data connectivity manage the metadata search your service user profile configure all those service in a new environment so this will be the second step after that you have to configure your farm setting you know start from your email incoming outgoing level security permission I'm talking about blocked file types about you know setting timer job anything over there finish your configuration this will be the first step second step we are going to talk about copy database to new form there is you know away a lot of steps or options you can do this step copy database may be someone gonna tell me I will do backup from SharePoint 2016 and I will restore it there in SharePoint 2019 yes it works someone gonna tell me I'm gonna you know just copy from here to there I don't like that stuff so the most recommended step from Microsoft is go to your SharePoint 2016 databases and make those database as read-only why so your current user in your current environment can read documents can read the information can I check your SharePoint list can you know at least view their documents and but they cannot add any extra thickness they cannot add any extra changes he only can read only and in that case you start your pack approach to pack up a process once you finish your backup process you will stop you you will restore those databases over there in a SharePoint to win a 19 all right this will be the second step all right and here is that you know basic steps I know most of you know about a CTL so you have to go to database it check properties and go to that option and make your database state to read-only you know it is basically how can you do your current database to be read-only and this you know basically also the steps how you gonna pack up your database all right you can do that one through wizard here is that you know click on in it appears and go to tasks and from task is you can pack up that one and definitely it should fall back up all right choose fall back up and put that one in package set or storage or anything so you can move it from here to there after that you have to copy backup files to SharePoint Server to anoint in environment to start what yes you are to tree right to start restore a backup from that one so you have to start the restore process how can I do that also go to sequel go to database right click and just restore database and you have to specify the location of the backup files and definitely you have to choose from device also that said man and here is a complete status the complete basically the second step the third step which is responsible to upgrade your service application right now I'm talking about service application which you know manage the metadata which search which all of that so start by upgrading database for all of them for managed metadata for search you know for secure store for performance points we can keep all of your service application matching to your new environment hey can how can I do that it's assemble man go to central administration and from there go to manager service on server and next to for example business data connectivity make that service to start start all of them to make sure all the services started and after that start by the search service instance by using this power shell which is here all you have to do go and search instance get SB Enterprise search and you know start SB service instance and you know start that variable that's all to upgrade the search service and here is that you know regarding at the application pool how you can tell it also man it's very easy steps and here is it you know how you can do is be insecure store and it's a go here yeah this one for the proxy also and here is that you the data have SharePoint list have all the data of SharePoint list so in that case yeah required man to upgrade contain database and site collection and how can I do that before you begin just make sure that the user you are doing that task with it he is a member of DB under school owner all right this will be the first step first a check and after that you have to go to central administration and create a web application all right for each web application existed in SharePoint Server 2016 what do you mean for example in SharePoint 2016 you have five web application so you have to create five web application in SharePoint 2019 all right so you have to create each one to be there and after that you have to pass through all of those checks use the same URL use the same sonication method we create all manage the passes recreate all quota template reconfigure email settings enable self-service site creation that we did in yeah and what user profile here also if you know there a man the past for a personal though it if there any policy over there you have to match exactly this web application in a new fresh farm so you have to come through all of those checks all right and definitely after you finish that one you have to reapply all the customization for example there is you know custom site definition the original custom will part custom web service custom features custom solutions here I'm talking about SharePoint developers maybe he did you know a lot of customization they will have you know put inside report and it was deployed in SharePoint 2016 so here is that you have to know this could be one of the causes of the failure of upgrading the process in the new environment because this customized the features still not there in SharePoint 2019 but it was in SharePoint 2016 so this kind of challenge process you know if you have any customized assembly site definition administrator abou anything of that could be a challenge for you so you have to manually manually yes I confirmed for the third time you have to do this manually transfer all the customization with the help of SharePoint available to move it to new SharePoint farm and make sure they install any component that found in the old SharePoint for too busy in the new SharePoint 2016 any deployment anything it should be there all right even info bus yes even anything all right even web
