hello and welcome to a long overdue tutorial video in this video i'm going to be going over all the basics again just like the first shiva tutorial video but i am going to be doing some things different in this one compared to the first one so without further ado i'm just going to get right into it alright so the first thing you're going to want to do is you're going to go to the pika pd patreon and you're going to go and join for 10 to get the discord link next thing you're going to want to do is you're going to want to go to substance painter try for free and download that next you want to go to unity and you're going to have to get the specific version of unity community 2018 for point 20 and you want to download this one the next thing you're going to want to do is you're going to want to go to the vrchat.com website sign into your account and download the sdk2 so once you've downloaded everything you're going to want to open up the link to the discord go to the pd patreon discord go over here to announcements click the pinned messages and then go to the link to download the model you're going to then want to go down here to model and file sharing and again press pin messages the corpse 7.7.1 and you're going to download this so once you got all that downloaded i'm going to show you how to open it up in substance painting you're going to want to go to the sheba public zip right click that i'm going to open it with windows explorer open that and you're going to press the public shiba not the quest make sure you don't press the quest the sheba pc that's the one you want to open so double click that once that has opened you can just click out of those there we go a model should be open so i'm going to go over some basic controls right now uh basic one is pressing alt and left click holding that and then moving the mouse around and there you can rotate around the model to look at it and view it you can also press ctrl alt and left click and move your mouse around again to view it like this and if you wanted to zoom in on anything you can press alt and right click and move your mouse forward and backwards to zoom in and out in case you had any small details you wanted to do up close that's how you do that you can also use the scroll wheel as well but with the basic controls out of the way i am now going to explain how substance painter works for the layers so how the layers work is again everything set up using layers so as you can see down here these are the base uh colors so we have the light color darker and the fill layer two fill layer two affects everything which i'll show you here because uh when you go to color you wanna make sure that you're using the right layer it depends where you put your paint layer because i'll show you here if i were to move this light color below the darker as you can see it doesn't show up now so if you go to try and color but it's not showing up make sure whatever you're coloring is above that layer as you can see now it shows it so when coloring make sure you're on the right layer above what you're coloring over so now i'm actually going to go into changing the colors so how you actually would change that is now i'm just going to affect the already base colors on here so you would go as you see there's a folder little folder icon here make sure that's open and then go down to light color just that bottom one there still in the same folder go over here on the top two properties fill and then just scroll down to you see base color as you can see we can move this around and change it to whatever color i want to or whatever color you want it to be i'm just going to stick with the blue like that as you can see it affects everything that is in this folder so as you can see it changed the color and again we can go down here to darker make sure it's the bottom one there don't select the paint and you can change this as you can see it's just barely changing it in certain spots and then down here into fill layer two change that black i don't know go with that there we go that now i just changed all the pre-made i just changed all that so these are this is just kind of the default right now and how it looks so you can change the colors there but if you wanted to add any other details or remove certain parts i'll show you that here so i'm gonna for now i'm gonna show you how to actually color and remove stuff so now let's say you wanted to remove uh the eyebrows i don't know what you'll do is in this light color you're going to want to press this little box here it's kind of like a black white kind of color not sure what it is um and you want to go over here to this a little eraser icon here it's called erase and i can erase this i should be able to oh my also make sure that this is white when you're going to draw if it isn't and it's black like this you just go down here in the properties paint and move this to and then you should be able to oh my bad um on the face here there are two different ones you want to select that bottom one there for the face there you go you see you can remove that but as you can see i can't remove it here and that's because i had to press this one there we go and this is um fill layer two you actually can't paint or erase anything because this actually covers the entire model and i'll show you that here if i remove all that see it affects the whole thing these other layers are just color colored over it so yeah and i'm just going to remove i don't know we're going to remove that eyebrow again but let's say maybe uh you wanted to remove like the color in this ear to a certain like pattern i don't know just get rid of it there but you want it to affect the other side how you would actually do that is you press this little symmetry button up here and whatever you do on one side will change on the other so that's how you do that and also if you make any mistakes along the way so let's say you made me remove too much you're like oh no i i didn't want to do that you can just press ctrl z and it'll undo the last action that you did and control y will redo the undo wait un no it'll undo the undo it undo's the r reduce the undo undo the undo thing yeah yeah it just it yeah does that all right so now let's say maybe oh i don't like this brush i don't like how it kind of fades i want it to be like a solid color and say i don't like that you can actually go down here to brushes and if you just wanted a you could choose whatever one of these you want there's a basic hard which as you can see doesn't leave any smudges or anything or splats i don't know something like that if you wanted i mean any of these also effects when you're drawing as well if you're drawing on the head and you wanted to select a different brush again you can do that oh we can have a completely blue face sheba here like a smurfsheba i don't know and then again you can select other brushes as well you can have certain patterns oh it's like sperm i don't know i mean again you can mess with whatever here i'd highly recommend it just keep if you want to get good at this just it's a lot of trial and error just keep messing with it try new things test it out eventually you'll get a very good understanding of all this for me i have not messed at all with these brushes i usually only stick with basic hard versus basic soft because i'm very basic now i got all that painting and coloring out of the way now i'm going to actually show you if you wanted a new layer so let's say you wanted uh the right hand to be red but you wanted that one all these colors to stay blue so how you would actually do that is you go up here and press this little folder icon and paint icon and then you'll drag this fill layer into the folder select the folder right click and add black mask and then you can go down here change the color and since all these other layers all these other paint layers don't have any of these i'm going to go here remove all that and if you wanted to have emission which i'll show you here you can you can always go back here select the emission and have it so it's a really glowy really bright you can have them really bright and you can change the emission level so it's a little darker i could have like a glow stick i guess if you wanted but i'm just going to turn that off for now say we want them to have on here just like a bright red hand i don't know that and when you go to color over this layer uh you might accidentally go oh whoops like i didn't need to do that i colored over when you go into color make sure you're being careful of where you're painting because you might accidentally color onto something else you don't want to so an easy way to fix that as you can go over here to the 2d view we can just color here all right so now if you wanted to add any text let's say you wanted to add some text to your uh caller which a lot of people do um what you'll do is go up here over to collar collar part and for the fill layer 18 you just add a black mask that'll remove the text that's already there i'm going to add a new layer for this good do all the steps to adding a new layer and then what you're going to want to do is go over to alphas and type in fonts also alphas does have other designs too here like uh arrows i mean whatever you want there's like quite a few other stuff here but i'm going to type in fonts and i'll go cursive recommend going over here in the 2d view and doing that you can rename it to whatever you want [Music] tutorial and you can also press control and use the scroll wheel to change the size of the brush uh and let's say also maybe your text is too big and doesn't fit in this brush you can also change the size here to fit it all and then just you can resize your brush that's a bit bigger once you got what you want your text to say it all fits you can then click and you should see that it shows up on the collar and it might be a little dull so again you can add i'll get rid of all this we'll keep the emission turn that up right shows up like that there we go and then make sure it's on the other side too if you want it to be again just kind of mess with it until it's where you want it very good again both sides there we go all done and again you can change all these properties like you can change there are eyes you can change iris you can change all the colors here if you wanted the paws to be different colors and the nose you can change all that and the color parts you can change all the colors too as well but that's all up to you it's pretty basic um now if you wanted to change anything on the tail you go over here to the textures extra set list and then select tail back to property fills and the tails set up a bit differently it's weird how it works but as you can see all these like little flat tufts at the end of the tail a little confused how that's set up but pretty much how it works from what i've heard is there's like one flat surface one of these flat tufts affects all the rest of them so when you go to paint as you see when you go to paint it's going to affect all this now there's there's not really any way i know of a fixing that but just keep that in mind that yeah it's going to affect all these when painting so really the only thing you can paint is pretty much this if you want but still be careful because it's going to with that tail and affect everything so once you've got how you want your model to look you can go up here to file and i'd recommend saving the project as well and then you can go to export your textures here go to church you have where you want it to export here you can change that over here in the output directory make sure all these are selected all these box or boxes are checked it's from the unit unity vr chat catch output template and you can just export then once that is done you can close out of everything and i'll show you how to get it set up in unity all right now we are here in unity 2018 4.20 f1 once you've opened that you're going to see this not all these projects these ones are mine but it should be empty i'm going to go here to new and you can create a project here so your name whatever you want the project to be whatever you want and then make sure the location of the file is somewhere you'll know as well select where you want the output to be and then you can just press create object or create project all right once your project has open the first thing you're going to want to do is go to your folder and then select the vrchat sdk 2 make sure again it's the most recent version and then just drag that down here into the assets and then you should see a little pop-up like this you're going to want to go down here and press import all right once that is imported you're going to next open your folder again and select the core sheban and drag that in all right and once everything has imported that you need you're going to go down here to assets corps shiva double click that and just keep double clicking until you see this and then you should see what you're going to have to open here is a scene and this should have a little unity logo right here you want to double click that and then this should open up here and i'm going to go over again some basic controls for unity how to actually view a round like this you're going to hold right-click move the mouse around if you want to actually move around the area using wasd you again just hold right click and then just press wasd and you can kind of fly around and view your model like that again you can press alt left click and then move your mouse around you can view it like that and again you can also do alt and right click to zoom in and out of your model as well also ctrl alt left click and move your mouse around to view it like this as well but yeah once you have that yeah you can select this floor here by left-clicking and then just pressing delete you can just delete that we don't need the floor now i'm actually going to apply the textures that we made in substance painter onto the model here in unity so how we're going to do that is we're going to go over here to should be a little folder called materials you want to double click that and click the shiba inu material so what the difference between textures and materials are is textures is just like one image used uh pretty much like one layer or picture used that gets applied onto the whole model and what materials do is you can set put in multiple uh textures into that so since there's the albedo which is the base color and then there's emission and with the emissions like i said in substance painter it's kind of what adds that glow effect it's going to put all those different layers into that one material which will then get applied onto the model so all the textures that have been exported from substance painter uh will be applied pretty much here into the material so how i'm actually gonna do that now i'm gonna go here textures make sure you find where you have your textures at for right now i'm only we're only going to need like the uh albedo transparency and look for emission and spectral smoothness and along with the tail you're going to just need the albedo and the spectroscopist as well click and then just drag those in all right and once those are all in make sure you select the material and you're just gonna drag these textures where they belong here in the main maps so albedo goes in albedo the emission goes in emission and the spectral smoothness goes into spectral smoothness pretty pretty easy very basic and again this gets affected with the tail as well albedo goes in albedos factorial smoothness goes to spectral smoothness it's very easy that's all we have to do so now let's say uh maybe you wanted to add hair to your model or any other objects like in the hand or on the body i'll show you how to do that here now i usually like to go back to the assets and in the sheba discord under file sharing there are some objects you can use in there to apply to your model i use the little tuft of hair so once you have the model here dragged into the assets if you want to click it and drag it up here into the hierarchy so once you have it here in the hierarchy you're going to want to move it around to where you want it to be on the model so for me i want the hair to be on the head and as you can see it's kind of transparent right now and it's hard to see so what i'm actually going to do is i'm going to create a new material that can be applied onto this specific uh object so i'm going to how i'm going to do that is i'm going to right click down here in assets go to the top create move down here to material and you can name it whatever you want here i'm going to click and drag it so that it's on to the hair and i can go over here and recolor it to whatever color i want to be and again you can add emission to it as well if you want there we go now i can see the hair a little better so you can see these arrows here you can use these to move it around or you can go up here to positions and change these up so that it's [Music] you can use that this way of moving it around but that probably takes a lot longer that's just more if you want a more accurate position for the object so i'm going to move it here view it from all sides i'd recommend doing that before applying it is making sure you check all sides to make sure it looks right and maybe the hair is a little bit too low we maybe want to maybe we want it up a little higher so if you want to rotate an object you just press e on the keyboard and you can move it around like this up and down side to side um otherwise if you want it to be a little more accurate you can hold ctrl and then move it and it'll move it more accurately i guess and then you can press w again to move back to moving it to this location up down a little bit maybe one like that yeah i'm fine with how it kind of angles like that but let's say maybe the hair is a little too small or whatever object you're using or applying to the model is a little too small if you want to ever scale that up a bit you can press r on the keyboard you can scale it moving up and down as you can see you can make it you can make a huge but not going to do that again same can be applied holding control and i'll resize it evenly otherwise if you just wanted a certain part of it rescaled like it to come out a little more you can go over here to on the right side of the inspector and change the sizing there but how that looks now let's say maybe you wanted another piece here but you don't want to go through having to drag this in and redo everything again you can just press ctrl d which will duplicate that same object you have selected now move it move it around rotate it how i want it there we go you'll go over here and make sure you have the model selected it's the one that should have the avatar descriptor now if you if you dragged in an object and don't have it attached to the model that has the avatar descriptor it's not going to be uploaded to vr chat anything that's attached anything attached to this avatar descriptor in here is going to be uploaded so since these aren't connected to the avatar it's not going to be uploaded and it's not going to move with the head so how i'm going to do that is again go down here press armature and keep pressing these arrows until you get to whatever part of the body you want the object to be moving with so i'm going to have it move with the head since it's on the head and then just drag it in here on the head and then that is it that's all you need to do i'm also going to affect this here so let's say maybe you had for the hair also this image that goes to make it so that it looks more like hair uh when you drag it in it's gonna look like this go over here to rendering mode and just have it so it's cut out so if you have any uh png images that you want on whatever object you're applying it to and it has any like black marks or where it's supposed to be transparent make sure you select cut out for that so that it's actually transparent in the places it needs to be and i can also change the smoothness as well so the hair doesn't look so smoothy for some reason alright now if you wanted to add any custom animations to your avatar i'm going to go up here to hierarchy select your avatar and then go here to where it says shibuya this is an animation controller you're going to select that controls pretty much all the animations for your avatar so when you're running uh falling emotes all that kind of stuff that'll all be here so if you have any custom animations you want to drag which i'll do here alright so i have two animations here which i'm going to drag in and then once you've got them dragged in again press the animation controller and i'm going to put torque for the emote 1 so that's going to replace the first emote with the new one that i just dragged in and i'm also going to replace the fall animation with the custom one so instead of the default following animation it's going to have this one now if you're ever going to resize your shiva and make it bigger or smaller um i'll show you how to do that here uh you can change the scaling here or you just again press r and rescale it i'm going to make them a little bit smaller but as you can see the camera is up here this is actually what your camera looks like and this is where your viewpoint will be that does not move when you go to scale your uh avatar so what you gotta do is go over here to avatar descriptor and just keep changing these values until you see that uh viewpoint change to where it needs to be which is usually just right you're in between the eyes so i'm just going to change those values to a little bit lower eight and i can see it right there i'm gonna go point seven five no nine eight seven maybe point seven and i might just do that otherwise what five four no seven eight i'm going to do 0.9 for .09 for now and i'm just going to leave it at that just get it as close as you can but that will affect a lot of things as well like how your arms move depending on how far away your camera view is that's gonna make your arms feel maybe a bit shorter than usual or it's really gonna mess with your viewpoint depending on where your camera is so make sure you place it as best as you can all right once you got how you want your sheba to look you're going to go up here to the top where it says vr chat sdk click on that press show control panel sign into your account and then once you go over here to builder you're going to see there are some errors you're just going to want to auto fix these and that just has to do with the textures any of the other uh little caution things you can pretty much just ignore it's the one uh errors here that you need to fix otherwise if there are any errors you need to actually get those fixed because it won't let you upload this will be grayed out um you can also view those down here in the console if there are any errors you can view them down here um there are any errors here that i haven't shown off i would copy the error and then paste it into google and see if there are any solutions online to that fix but once you have all that ready you're going to want to press build and publish for windows and once it is finished uh getting ready to publish you don't want to close that and this is where you'll name your avatar have your custom profile picture here and choose between public or private avatar so i'm going to name it that you can name it whatever you want uh if you wanted a certain picture for your uh avatar you can go in here you're gonna select the vr chat cam and you can move this around wherever you want so let's say maybe maybe if you wanted to show your avatar here like this just a face you can go over here to field of view you can zoom in on the face if you wanted and you can have a colored background if you want to you could do this or if you had a custom picture that you wanted uh you can move the camera away from your avatar go up here to game object create 3d object and press plane e to rotate it 90 degrees and whatever image you have that you want to show up here i'll show you how to do that drag in any image you want to use for your background you can just click drag that onto the plane select it go down here uh select shader go to unlit and select texture and that should brighten it up here so you can have if you wanted an image here move the camera around fits the whole picture you want in frame you can also rescale this as well so it fits the whole thing in there there you go [Music] and just kind of move it all around so you got it how you want to look there we go now you have whatever you want your background to be for your uh image or profile picture and you can choose between here in sharing private or public uh privates if you want it to only be for you and only you can use this avatar pretty much no one can clone this avatar only you can use it public one other people can clone and use but i'm gonna oh i shall upload this public i don't know why but it's your choice if you want to be private or public and then you'll select this check mark here and pretty much say you agree that everything here is accurate and you'll just press upload and that's it now that you're in vr chat where to see your new uh uploaded avatar you're gonna go to avatars and in my you're gonna have a new tab called my creations and you're going to select your new avatar change into it and that is it so i hope you found this video helpful and if you liked and subscribe i really appreciate it other than that you all have a good rest of your day bye bye
