[Music] [Music] about 10 miles north of Tonopah Arizona you'll discover beautiful Belmont mountain discovered in the early 1900's the Tonopah Belmont mine produced six hundred and ten thousand dollars in copper led gold and silver but was eventually shut down due to low metal prices caused by the depression the mine was connected by an 18 mile haulage road that reached the main line of the Southern Pacific Railroad at Tonopah station high gray concentrates were shipped for further refinement at the El Paso smelter and the remainder was shipped to a cyanide mill at the vulture city mine below the level of the main portal the mine consisted of multiple shafts and more than 12,000 feet of lateral workings the ore was then hoisted to the hundred foot level from the 250 400 and 500 foot levels it was then tram through an extraction tunnel for processing at an on-site mill and a 65 tonne floatation concentrator now let's explore the Tonopah Belmont mine well hey welcome back everybody okay so this weekend what we've got for you is a mine called the the Tonopah Belmont mine and the reason that I'm given the name out to you guys is because everybody knows about this location it's a it's a popular stop for a lot of offer off-road vehicle enthusiasts etc they come up here and wander around all the all the old concrete structures and foundations they've got the main portal closed off and but there's a couple of open Stopes that might allow us access into this mine so we're doing this this way so that when people come to this location you know they don't have to try to get into the mine they can just go to the video and hit play so I'm gonna head up here and meet up with Frank here in a second and we'll see if we can't get into this open scope I'll see you up there okay guys so we're further on up the hill and as you can see the the BLM puts a bunch of bars here over this actually it's not an open nope it's a an incline shaft but just below the surface here just down there a bit there is a drift off to this off to the left so we're gonna see if we can't get into that first and see what it's all about it's an air shaft or what cuz there's not any sign that there was anything here you know like there wasn't the oyster nothing here to pull anything up so yeah we'll have a look I kind of think maybe that that first that first level was gonna go maybe hook up to the other parts because what's the same elevation but we'll see yeah yeah so hope you guys enjoy our collaboration that's pretty cool making that so we're back at work and my course and you know I'm Elsa didn't live broadcast well you know if you guys aren't subscribed to the channel it's not any huge deal to us but you're kind of missing out if you're subscribed and hit the notification icon then you have the chance to join us in our live shows and ask us any questions we kind of enjoy doing that would be doing more of that so but for no other reason use to subscribe to channel and and hit the notification right corner what that does is as soon as we start the live broadcast then you get an email and it tells it to started we have a lot of fun with those live broadcasts we really enjoy you guys hopping on board and joining in with us - what'd you find down there Frank yeah so it's just a little cutting a little seal okay yeah it all goes in 25 all right so then we've got another option guys well then we can either go well let's see if I can get the camera around this bar here c'mere be patient okay so that's pretty much as you can see for Frank in the picture that's pretty much damn near vertical right there but there's another area where we might be able to get in here that is truly an open stove maybe we'll take a look at that first okay guys we are around the what with you the south side of the mountain and so when you get over here you're greeted with a beautiful view as well as this is where irises as far as you can go because the BLM put these bars up so you can't come up the trail anymore so up here is gonna be the portal right up there in front of us and then those open slopes I was telling you about it's gonna be higher up on the hill so I'll just meet you over there okay so down below us there we have what's left of the old mill site a bunch of concrete foundations higher up on that hill over here but over here was the main portal and we're standing on top of the waste rock pile and let me show you guys what the BLM did yeah I don't think that they want us in here and they really went they went to great lengths on this one so not only did they pour concrete along the bottom so you can't go underneath it but this is one of those where they fill they fill them up with concrete those bars are hollow and yeah fill them up with concrete you can even see where people shot it shot a bullet in it so like I was saying there's a an open stop further on up the hill and I think oh yeah what do you got there someone has tried to cut through right there haven't they yeah yeah yeah there's an open stove higher up in the hill so let's go take a look at that see if that would be a way in okay guys we're up here at the open stove this is what I was telling you about so the BLM or someone made this really interesting gate it almost looks like the perimeter of count Dracula's castle for crying out loud all right let's see how hard it is Frank yeah there's there's our tax dollars hard at work but at least my tax dollars all right what do we have here okay okay what do we have so yeah there was the there's the climbing rope I was telling you about Frank so someone must have got snagged on that board and then like you're saying that's a way down there that's what 80 feet yeah hey 50 yeah 50 it does okay okay guys Frank's all rigged up and he's going to head down into the into this open stop here but is that yeah that's I suppose you're right that's more of a chef than a stove isn't it well I know I can lie it's a it's a big shop it's not really a little shops probably only about 50 60 feet down good think okay so now we get to test this six five six if not it's tied into sports fit bricks didn't take it well we'll test it by hanging on there you go seems to be good blow my beard and don't get your beard pot in there mmm [ __ ] over the freakin point over some air put a rubber band in it I can get you I get your hair those scissors would be the best how about if I give you a pair of those googly eyes okay look at all this work down there we've got our not the bottom for a change we're just going straight down the shop pretty easy we're overdue I can't go too fast because your hand gets too hot there's a little crosscut here not going anywhere there we go easy peasy me bottles interesting you bought half halfway Oh more than uh I'm worried halfway it looks like a system keeps going down what we got here it's kind of uh oh yeah it goes in a whole bunch other branches and stuff okay all right I'm going down this way just a little walk down going that way up go straight down so take the easy way okay so the shop does go down just a little bit further into that section um but we're gonna head down in the hair because it's just a little easier well head yeah Oh check this one out so that's usually knowing you're going down to shop this is kind of scary only sink uh but really no big deal on all of us it's not even I can start in 50 feet it's quite it me quite easy it always looks a lot further me looking down like glycin oh that's like 80 feet I bet you stop Martin forty or fifty two here it always looks worse when you're going down so all right so we're gonna explore this part and glides gonna explore the top part and we'll meet up later for lunch exchange stories hey back again guys so yeah so occasionally when you're out exploring these mines you meet tourists and here they are so yeah so I saw these good folks coming up the mountain and it's real important that when you got a man inside the mine that you tell everybody that she's there's someone in there so that somebody doesn't throw a rock down a shaft and get old Frank hurt so yeah real quick where y'all from Minnesota Mesa Arizona and Iowa okay well that's good to see you guys in the glad you could come on to this mine today that's pretty darn cool so what do you say guys we're gonna we're gonna explore more of this mill site so I'll meet you down below the hill all right see you down there okay guys we're down here at the mill site now wasn't that fun yeah it's always good to to run into people out on the trail or or add a mine site and those are some really good folks and the best part is is here in a few weeks they're gonna be able to watch this episode and they're gonna get to see what's inside this mine so I suppose Frank and I are doing a community service if you will all right let's get back out of here so we're in front of the mill site I wanted to show you this real quick while Frank's inside scrambling around in there so yeah this is where the old process buildings used to be and it's on that tiered approach as we've seen so often in other mines but let's work around the corner here and see what else we can find I see e over there yeah that one lady she said that she's from Minnesota bur I get the chills just thinking about that so here we are we're higher up on the mill site you never know what they would have had attached to all of these pylons they're interesting nevertheless but yeah that's that's kind of what it looks like I'll just pass this direction so you can get a good view of it and down this way so once again if you guys ever come out here with your jeep so your side-by-sides your four-wheelers this is what's called the Tonopah Belmont mine it's pretty cool okay guys we're on top of the mill looking down but what do you say we jump back down in the mine and see what Frank is finding down in there okay see you down in there there we just went down the last little ways there to get to this side of the mine and kind of thought this is the main hall level and that wouldn't go any further but right away we said that's not right so let's have a look so as you can see it goes down a long ways yet but as far as you can see I can throw something down there oh it's gonna be that spectacular everybody could try it all right so this is was the the hoist was anchored here at one time and this is a hoist room so this is an internal shop they happen this mine when this is going down so this saw the shaft would have been anchored up there Selmer that would've been a pulley or something up there a big line going from this hoist up to the very top there okay so they would have been from from this guy here from this voice there would have been a cable going up attached a big bully pulley up there and straight down to this voice which is four looks really deep we didn't hear a sight Imber stop falling when we threw it that's a long ways down all right what do we got here we're gonna stick to our right-hand rule as before usual oh well see if we got another wins right here Wow man all kinds of levels and ropes going down there can't get down then uh see there's a rope there okay Bar something but we can't get across there and it goes along there's loads more pockets and Windsor's you know what we might not be able to see that much in this level this mind because it seems like it goes down a lot further let's swing off to the right wherever silly this is gonna be a main hall level and everything would be above us man I've got blocked this stuff is I'm not really sure why it almost looks like from an engine or something from an engine it doesn't look natural to me yeah I'm sure that's just coating now it's for my they have an engine or something in here okay so there's nothing really to see him here let's go back the other way so let's see what else we can find here lots of air screaming down here well from where we came in a shot goes pretty good you got to be very careful for winds is because well there's a lot of development below us firstly we came in so it's pretty easy way to get in here of course would've been easier to come on the main hole level but they put a big gate there keep us from doing that huh some hey drop the big guys flashlight in here well that's cool haha now we're just inside the main hall oh yeah million down to walk don't work now if somebody dropped it huh pretty cool let's take that with us all right so we're off to the right here again that really seems weird to me that they had an internal shop just a few sign feet inside the main portal they do that would've been a lot easier to have a hoist outside Oh with that huh okay let's see what we can find at the Belmont there's a bit of batshit so there's nuts in here I think this area was a really historic like a rich area up for mining because we see a bunch of little holes everywhere it looks like tough give it to Spanish mind a long time ago in these into these areas here we're gonna stick to the warm water and stuff and see if we can find anything interesting there's no tracks left here so we're not going to see a railway or anything like that yeah so my first stood that the glide when you came in here and I said oh that's not very far to drop down if it wasn't okay no there's another lorries here all this goes oh there's a rope their interest oh that's my rope yeah that's the other I could have come down this Winston - that way hard shot yeah there's a rope there half the red robe looks just like mine yeah that's right good NOFA see how fast you get turned around the more yeah hmm looking like some oh look at that wallet huh that's pretty neat hmm blunt Nate dogs hmm me wall that's it oh look hell that wall well define that walls they hang another meat okay got a Motor City a lot more to see than this not sure how many years has been since they got rid of all the stuff since it blocked it up there there's some old carbide rating that's it they're very little to see here huh basically just going straight down oh no well why does it ever hot up there there they warned that we're gonna hop up there cuz not much else to see here otherwise crazy how freakin hot it is huh well I'm smaller and I see their smells like bleach harder huh like cameras plugged up in saline talking about 20 degrees water right here one was anywhere else how's it dead bad huh not going anywhere we got fungus in there where that's nasty oh well I'm fortunate very little to see this manhole level unless you go down a huge internal shaft well it looks huge you have no way to tire I'll do it so we can't do anything I'm just gonna make your way back down huh well maybe boys got some more interesting stuff to show ya huh hey guys I think I just heard the pitter-patter of little feet or a very recognizable Canadian accent is he down in here thought I heard something maybe he's higher up on the mountain let's head up there and see what we can find boy says this is cotton candy yeah tastes like a fur ball to me you don't got to tell me that twice alright so yeah I just got back from from that big chapel and that big of a chef's very about 50 feet down tough going back up because I didn't have my sender but so I'll tell you what's down there and we'll trade a little video there so basically just goes down to there's an internal shop that goes down and it goes down as far as you know we threw some stuff down there you'll see as far as it goes and there's just a couple other branches there so I'm not it'll why they would have done this because we're looking down down in the valley there why wouldn't they have just had an adit go in there what's the point of going to the top of the mountain and having a huge internal shaft will go down I don't know so which seems really strange to me so but that's what we found and so it's about 140 feet of rope from here down to that internal shaft and every hundred thirty feet and then we don't know how far that shaft as it goes way down well alright well that's gonna have to do it for this weekend's episode but before I go I just wanted to take a moment to say thanks to all of my new subscribers and especially those who jumped on board my channel after watching Frank's and eyes collaboration over the last two weekends I really appreciate y'all coming on board thank you so much okay well we're gonna get on out of here and we'll see you guys again next weekend take care bye bye [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] you
