[Music] what is up everyone today we are going to be talking about packaging your game how to do it when to do it and how to fix some of the errors you might be bumping into when trying to package your game now before i start this video i will just say that even if your game is not finished it's super important that you package your project you can run into a huge amount of problems when packaging a game so it's really important to do it multiple times throughout your development so even if your game isn't finished watch this video and try packaging today just to see if your project is running into any problems and with that being said let's get into this so before we package make sure you can successfully build your project without any errors as these errors will pop up when packaging so if you're using ue4 we're going to go to file package project and before we actually package we're going to check out some settings so let's select packaging settings for ue5 all the options are the same but instead of file we need to go to build and all the information is over here now let's select the packaging tab and for build configuration you'll want to select shipping if you wanted to do some more tests in your program making use of console command you can select development but for officially sending your application off to a marketplace you'll want to select shipping now if we hop into the details we can put all our product information in here things such as name thumbnail and other bits of information then hopping into the map tab make sure you've set your first level to be opened here this will most likely be your main menu map so just drop your main menu map in both of these options and that map will be the first one to open when your game is launched if you hop into the selected platforms tab you can select which platforms you want your project to support and if we scroll down we can tweak certain details about our package product for each operating system i wouldn't worry too much about these settings for now but if we select something like windows here you can change your load up screen and icon things like that before you start playing around with a load of small settings tweaks like icons and stuff i'd first try to package your project and see if you can successfully build it so to do this let's hop back into our menu open up your drop down on your unreal engine version go to package project and select which operating system you want to package it for when you do that you can select your folder directory and your program will begin packaging when this happens click in the bottom right to see your output log this is all the information to do with your package so the package can take anything from five minutes to multiple hours depending on the size of your program so go away and come back when it's done when you come back your program will either show build successful at the bottom or build failed if your program got built then great job if it didn't prepare for a bit of stress the first thing i like to do when i've got a build failed is click the filters at the top and only show the errors from there all you can do is work through each error trying to find the fix when you find an error what you can do is show the messages and warnings coming up to this error to see what was building up to the problem unfortunately there's not much i can do to help you with this what you need to do is google the errors read over them and try and figure out what is causing the issue packaging debugging is seriously hard when starting off but just like how learning code seems impossible at first after you research errors for long enough you will understand the issues and be able to break down each problem and this is why i said at the start that is super important that you try package your game throughout your development so when your game is finished you don't find yourself looking at a long list of errors when packaging your project so that is it for me guys feel free to drop a comment below if you ran into any packaging errors and as a community hopefully we can get some of these errors figured out thank you so much for watching guys i will see you all in the next video [Music] you
